Each week, WORDTheatre® shares a brilliant short story performed live in LA, NY or London by a great actor, usually with the author in the room to hear their story being brought to life. Hello and welcome to WORDTheatre Weekly: The Short Story
Podcast where great authors and actors meet! I’m your host, Cedering Fox,
WORDTheatre’s Founder & Artistic Director.
This week, we will be listening to Ann Beattie’s “Find and Replace” performed by Joely Fisher. Ann Beattie is one of the best writers consistently in the United States. She has received an award for excellence from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, the PEN/Malamud Award for excellence in the short story form. Her career started gaining traction in the early 1970s, and she publishes regularly in the New Yorker, the Atlantic Monthly, and many other places. Joely Fisher, a longtime WORDTheatre participant, performed Ann’s short story “Find and Replace.” She’s one of our favorites.
Before we get started, please note that WORDTheatre holds the copyright to these recordings and no portion of anything you hear on WORDTheatre Weekly, our short story podcast, may be reproduced without permission.
And now, here is Joely Fisher performing “Find and Replace.”
FISHER PERFORMS THE PIECE.
That was “Find and Replace” by Ann Beattie, performed by Joely Fisher.

If you’re in LA on March 19th, we welcome you to join us for The Ocean: Our Liquid Universe. This upcoming extravaganza is a love letter to the artistic creations and scientific discoveries that the ocean has inspired throughout the centuries, this unique hybrid of ancient and contemporary culture is also a call to action at a time when it is needed most. We debuted it in the UK in August and I am really excited to be producing it at the Saban Theatre. For the best deal on tickets, visit https://wordtheatre.org/events/the-ocean-our-liquid-universe/ and use code OCEANLOVER for $10 off.
