Hey, Julian says here and welcome
to another episode of Paddle Smash
Academy, and today we're with Jerry
Tage, representative of the American
and Mexican market of a brand new
paddle brand, the A stock racket.
Well, welcome to our show, buddy.
How's, uh, last time we talked
you were in a different, uh,
different business, right?
And so how did that transition,
uh, uh, move over to Ox Dog?
Uh, it all started when I become
entering the paddle market.
Uh, in Europe and the us Then
it came the opportunity, I was
helping a friend, Zapata, a player.
He was looking for a brand.
Then I also was friend with d one
of the owners of, of this brand.
And then we came like, uh, 360.
I entered to the brand.
They give me the distribution in Mexico.
And then this year we'll start
in Miami, the new collection.
So what
made you pursue og?
I mean, there's so many different rackets.
What made you say, you know
what, this is the right guy.
Do you
know when, when, when I test the
OG racket for the first time,
I say like, this is different.
Like this R is the best ragged I test.
Wow.
Yeah.
I mean that's, that's pretty big.
What, what made it feel different?
Is it just, uh, I think the, they are
the best in the world of made the, in the
floor bowl, it's a hockey on, not on ice.
Okay.
On floor.
And they, they are made of, the
stick is made of carbon fiber.
Yeah.
And they are the best in the
world to do the sticks in hockey.
And then they realize the rackets.
Have a big problem or broken.
Getting broken.
So they say, if we are the best
in the world to make the carbon
fiber, why don't, do we rackets?
So the carbon fiber is native
there to their country?
Or do they get it from different country?
Where's it made?
Yeah, let, let, let's, so
where's the racket coming from?
It's originally what, from Spain?
Or where's it coming from?
No, the the, the brand is a Sweden brand.
Oh, it's a Swedish brand.
Okay.
Swedish brand.
Perfect.
Uh, but they,
so they're, they're in the business
of doing, uh, ice hockey sticks.
Hockey sticks, yeah.
Okay.
Not, not ice,
but the, the floor bowl.
Oh, okay, okay, okay.
It's like a hockey, but in floor.
Yeah.
Like in, oh, with roller blades.
Yeah.
No, no.
We, we, we choose.
Oh, so the, the, the grass, the regular
hockey for,
they play like in the, like, field
hockey.
Field
hockey.
No, but in like, uh, un unlike
this, this, this material.
Like where they play basketball?
Yes.
Like.
What do they use for, do they use skates?
Shoes?
No, no shoes.
Oh, they use
shoes, okay.
Yeah.
Well,
they're running but playing hockey.
Oh, but it's not a field hockey?
No, no, no, no, no.
So it's kind of
like a street hockey,
but, um, um, um, okay.
Yes.
Okay.
So they, they, they spend almost two
years on the lab making tests to Jasim,
who's the, the owner of the brand.
He assured they have the best racket in
the market, and I also think the same.
Wow.
It's a good looking rack.
I mean, uh,
also they are very
delicate with the colors.
The, I think the, the, the look
and feel of the brand is amazing.
Now it's Swedish design,
but where is it made?
Is it also made there or no?
No, they made in China.
Yeah.
It's just, they're design
then R ds all Swedish.
Right.
How many, how many lines do they have?
How many models?
Well, they have the, the
ultimate, the ultimate collection.
We have the prop loose.
It's the top of the line bracket.
Then they have the pro
is the, this green one.
Let me, can we see it?
Yeah.
Yeah.
And this one, it's, it's, uh,
the ultimate pro has carbon.
So is this, uh, 38?
I think it's 365 grams, 365.
How many, uh, the carbon
level, what is it?
I think it's
18 K.
18 K?
Yeah.
And would this be like a soft medium or,
or as it hard, the, the, an a
VA
phone?
Yeah.
Okay.
It's a good looking rocket.
I mean, look, look at the, the,
uh, the protection on the site.
Uh, I like the mold structure.
Yeah.
It has a unique shape.
Do you know
Zapata professional player
number 34 in the world?
Last year, he only broke one racket.
Really?
Wow.
Is this his racket?
He's playing with the
pro flus, the pink one.
Okay.
But it's the same rack in other brands.
When he, when tail plays with the last
brand, they made a special racket for him.
They don't play with the, if
you go to the store and buy a
racket, it's the same as tale.
So this is also, the details
are like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
It, it's, yeah.
The, the finish is very clean.
It's very, uh.
It looks very solid.
I mean, it look, it looks
like a, like a good frame.
Yeah.
We're looking forward
to doing these reviews and finding
out for sure.
It's, uh, I think you like this, this will
be a present for the Paddle Smash Academy.
Okay, great.
Thank you.
We're looking for the whole collection, my
friend one by one.
So, so, and, and the.
Only rackets, or they have shoes.
They have, um, apparel,
Zo they have everything,
but they don't have shoes.
So they have apparel
too.
Yeah.
Yeah.
In the, in June, we have the ZO
meeting distributors of all the world.
And one guy, uh, ask Jasim like,
Hey, why don't we sell shoes?
And he, uh, he uh, he told, uh.
Because I'm not sure I can make
the best shoes in the world because
Asics do the things very well.
So I will do what I'm
to do a perfectionist.
So he's a perfectionist.
Yeah.
That's great.
He's a perfectionist.
And originally from, from
Stockholm, Sweden, or from where?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Stockholm.
That's interesting.
And now they're trying to
expand all over the world.
Yeah.
How is that going?
How, how, how is the feedback from people?
Uh, the feedback is amazing.
Like, I don't know, like in Mexico, like
for my plan to open the market was giving
free rackets to the people because I, I
am sure if you test the racket and play
with the racket, you're coming back.
Wow.
For me, I cannot play with
other rackets right now.
It's, they're different.
I'm, I know.
It's out, man.
Really, really, really,
you know, that's, that's,
and let me see, what, what are the
other models that you have there?
This is
the ultimate pro light.
This is a, it's a three 50 ground.
So more for the woman?
No, no, no, no.
Do you know the twins brothers?
Yeah.
Like Pablo used to play with the heavy
racket and I told him like, you need to
test this racket because it's three 50.
It'll be quick, very light.
You're very quick in the
ball, but then it's too hard.
The the, and then the balls
rounds a lot for the three 50.
Looking forward to
trying this one.
The thing with this racket,
you, you need to have a,
because the sweet spot is small.
It's small, yeah.
Okay.
Because it's you to be in
position every time
you need to hit it.
Well, yeah.
Yeah, but that's not his case.
Maybe for the first maybe.
Maybe more for Julian.
No, definitely not.
Definitely not the first set.
Julian needs a class player.
You're like, you're a warrior, sir. The
first set I could play with that one.
I remember we
play with that Barto.
You didn't throw me one ball.
Remember?
Yeah, that's right.
In reserve sea plane.
Yeah.
You're the one who fell down.
Right?
You're gonna play with that
one
else.
Remember?
Remember?
So, and then you guys also have grips.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
We have a lot of apparel.
We have a clothes, we have um,
bags, we have, um, hats, uh, grips,
everything, but without shoes,
you know.
Um, we're always very picky every time
we pick up a rack, and, and you can tell
right away if they're good quality or not.
You know what I mean?
The moment you pick this up,
you feel like there's quality.
You know what it is, you know what I mean?
It's, it's the details, you know?
Yeah.
The details you can always kind of tell
a little bit, you know what I'm saying?
But I,
I, I, uh, it's all about the, like
the owner, it's his personality.
Yeah.
When I talk to him and he explain me,
I spend almost two year in the lab and
I say, I wanna do business with you.
If you have the, the patience to
stay two years in a lab to test and
test and test other brands, they run
racket and then, oh, it's good, but it
broke a lot, so let's do another one.
And that's you.
You want to do money right now, right?
But when you have the patient and use, do
the correct things and you wait after all.
You have this, there's
research and development.
That's what you really need to do.
And you're right, a lot of companies just
want to throw out a racket right now.
Yeah.
And maybe use the molds
other people are using.
Just put their 2 cents in and hope
like it's, you know, that's it.
And I'm seeing that all of 'em
are pretty much diamond shape or
they're sort of like a hybrid.
Oh, so
this is the, this is
the ultimate collection.
Then we have the hyper, it's.
It is this one.
It's Oh, that's more teardrop.
Yeah, it's it, this is Diamond.
This is more like as a tier.
And then we got the new
collection, the pure.
Okay.
The round racks.
Lemme see.
But, uh, you also have a lot of power,
right?
Right.
Like, because normally round
rackets is only about control.
So how many, how many
collections do you have?
How many you have?
The
pro, the ultimate, the hyper.
And the pure.
Okay.
We got three collections in
total, I think like 20 models.
So each collection has what,
maybe four or five models?
Six or seven?
Six or seven.
Yeah.
I like the roughness of the mates
is the, the one that
has like six or seven.
Then the hyper has four and then the pure
has three, so, so maybe for thin models.
So what is the price of of your, your,
the more, the most expensive one?
Yeah.
It's 330 euros.
Okay.
And the valued and valued one.
Do you guys have an area where
it's, there's a value the
rackets like less cheaper?
Cheaper?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We have like a 120, also
the one of the round.
But also it's a very good
racket, like for 120.
So you have, you, you can find
everything, you can find, uh, a good
price racket or the best of the.
Let me ask, you know, the, the, the
American, you know, one thing is to, to
be the, the distributor representative of
Mexico, which is a much smaller country.
Yeah.
The US is huge.
Huge, huge.
It's tremendous.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You know, I mean, there is so much.
Land to cover one person is impossible.
They need to do it for states.
For states?
Yeah.
Or region.
Region.
Northeast.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Maybe not states, maybe Miami.
Maybe for another Territories.
Territories, yeah.
Territories.
'cause if you want to try the
whole country, I mean, all in
California, you have
to have a north, south.
Yeah.
And South know, I mean, yeah, yeah, yeah.
San Diego, la, san, the, the brand
wants to come and take control
maybe in the, in four or five years.
Yeah.
So right now it's trying to
to develop, develop awareness.
Yeah.
You know, they're coming, uh,
we're gonna be on the rack
deck this year, on March there.
Right, right, right.
Uh, the Sweden guys are coming.
They want to see what
is in the US and, and
well, we can have it on the podcast.
Tell us a little bit about
now, how are you guys
sponsoring?
Anybody, any, any coaches or any players?
Right now we have, uh,
the twins, brothers.
Oh, okay.
I've seen them, yeah.
Yeah.
In Sunset, uh, Pablo.
Yep.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Good.
And
anybody
else?
Uh, Marta Morga.
Oh, Marta Morga is going,
is going with you guys?
It is playing this year
with, with, with the brand.
Good.
In the us.
Uh, this week maybe the, uh, these
coaches from, from Reserve, they
want to, they love the brand.
The, they want to play with the brand.
Yeah.
I've seen them.
I seen them
play with
it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So you see Pablo and his
partner playing with the brand?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And in the pros we got
like six or seven players.
Okay, we got Teta.
Okay.
We have Javi Barona, and I'm
not playing with that one now.
Uh, this year they closed
Javi Barona, the Ha Okay.
Barona and Javi Garcia.
Wow.
Uh, Javi Barona is playing
with the hyper plow.
Wow.
Prouse and Javi Garcia.
With this, uh, also ar jets.
Jas Ena.
And then the girls, uh, Noah Kawa.
That's excellent, man.
So you guys are going, uh, aggressive.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So what, what, what is
included in the sponsorship?
For what, uh, when you
sponsor for a pro player?
No, no, no.
A uh, a amateur player,
like a coach in the USA
coach.
Uh, it depends, uh, some, uh, some
of the players you give the free
rackets and the year, and maybe you
pay them a little bit, little salary.
It, it depends on the.
On the player on the ranking
also, how many people
they reach.
Yeah.
The people they reach the, right
now, the social media, it's uh,
uh, important for the brand.
So why don't you tell some of the players,
uh, what would give them more value?
Is it really, um, being involved in
social media platform to reaching people?
It's that increase their value?
Is it playing more
tournaments and winning?
What would, what would
give you them more value?
Like you choose this one over
that one or give this one a
little bit of salary over this?
I
think you need to make
a mix of everything.
Okay.
Because for the brand, it's a good
thing the coach has it because
also the coach recommend his.
Sure.
The play who train with the coach
and you say if you play Oxo,
you would recommend for sure for
the people you train the brand.
Also the brand looks if the player,
it's a, a good player in the
competition because he travels.
And then also it's exposure
in other cities or countries.
So how about looking social
media?
It's important for, for
him to be in social media.
So social media
right now, like for the pro players,
it's uh, as important as your ranking.
Wow.
If you are, uh, number 25 in the
world, but you have only 2000
followers, the brand is not paying.
Or vice versa.
Vice versa.
Do you have a million followers
and you're 20 in the world?
Yeah.
Their player, they have, uh,
80,080 K followers, but they are
65 in the world, but they pay more
than, uh, 30 ranking in the world.
Interesting.
Yeah, that's, yeah.
Well,
I mean, for, for power media and
listeners, especially for the, the
players out there, I mean, you guys
gotta, if you're a pro or local, pro
whatever, you gotta put some emphasis on.
On your social media
process, like any business
right now, I think in the world, like the
social media is taking control, like yeah.
Uh, in huge steps.
Excellent.
Well that's great to know, you know?
Yeah.
So we're, we're really looking
forward to trying them out.
I see your, your thermo bag.
It, it looks very, very nice too, man.
I mean, yeah.
I told you I love the, the
every thing in the collection.
It's like with some details, like looks,
yeah.
Also the clothes.
Uh, I like it a lot.
It's very light, like for the sport.
And how often do you guys,
uh, change up your rackets?
You know, like every year.
Every year?
Yeah.
They have the, wow, the ox
start doing rackets in 2023.
So they, now these are two,
2020 fives then, right?
2020 fives.
So the racket has changed three times.
Wow.
The first year was, uh, like a sand color.
Now is it just cosmetics or are
you actually putting some RD
into it, making real changes?
Every uh, or every couple years?
They, they do that.
Every
couple this year only change the colors.
Okay.
But they will, they bring to the market
is in new bracket because, uh, more
drop, uh, maybe was missing power.
And then they got a hard
surface to, for me, it's the
best racket in the collection.
So that's the one I use.
She's time to try that one.
Beautiful.
If you like the
hard racket, it's very good.
We're looking forward to test them out.
Yes.
Go to the court, put 'em through the run.
We need to do the rematch.
Yes, we gotta do the rematch.
Let's do it.
Can I
play alone?
Not with.
Berg.
I saw him.
Oh my God.
Yeah, you could break somebody else.
Definitely.
Gabe.
Next
time we can do a azo test match.
Yeah, I bring the full
collection, definitely.
Yeah.
And we do also the review
of the e every racket.
Well leave us a racket.
Uh, we will test them out.
We'll put a review online and
we'll send you and we'll use some.
Okay.
We'll use some B roll
when we're playing in the review.
Okay.
You know, because we take
our time, we, we really.
You know.
Yeah.
It's whole, it's a whole
project doing reviews.
Yeah.
We're trying to help everybody
and give our honest reviews.
That's a
for,
for me, that's a great way to
do the things and if we like it,
we'll make an order, you know?
For sure.
Perfect, perfect.
Set up.
Okay.
Alright, well Jerry, thank
you very much Julie, ask.
Thank you.
Welcome coming the show and
I'll wish you all the luck.
Okay.
Thank you very much.
