Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.
When we realize His great love, we should be willing to trust
everything to the hand that was nailed to the cross for us. – Steps to
Christ, pg. 103
“Caleb, slow down!” my mother shouted from behind me.
“I’m fine, Mom,” I yelled back to her.
As I flew down the hill on my little bike, I tried to imagine that I
was the fastest downhill mountain biker in the world and I was going to
win the race to the bottom. Ignoring my mom, I sped up, gaining speed
by the second. Bouncing faster and faster down the hill, I failed to see
that the road was becoming rougher, until my little wheels could not
handle it any more. Hitting a large rock in the logging road, I flew off
my bike, tumbling, crashing, and sliding down the hill on my face.
Grinding to a stop, I jumped up and hurriedly grabbed for
my bike, only to find my right arm would not work like I wanted it to.
Glancing down, I realized my arm was broken. As the adrenaline of
the crash started to wear off, the agony became almost unbearable for
my seven-year-old pain tolerance. Bursting in to tears, I was rushed to
the hospital by my frantic family. After receiving the necessary medical
attention, I returned home with a cast on my arm and a valuable
lesson fresh in my mind.
My mom knows what’s best and safe for me, and if I truly trust
and love her, obedience will come naturally and automatically. I want
to trust God in the same way. When He tells me to stop or slow down,
it’s for my own good. He wants to protect me from the things I can’t
see with my limited spiritual vision. Only trust in God and His Word can
give me the true safety I need.
