Full show transcript:
I figured out how to get you to run a race.
And that chance. And be excited about running the race. Um. And probably compete pretty well. Okay. More details, please. In Italy over the weekend, they ran a 10K race. Now that's about six and a half miles. Oh, gross.
So you're gonna have to run quite a few miles to make this happen. Okay. Okay, it's closer to seven. Close to seven miles. Okay. This 10K race.
Picturesque run through the streets of Italy. Okay. Beautiful. Okay.
At the finish line, runners got their commemorative t-shirts. Fancy. So far I'm not sold. And an unlimited serving of tiara masu. As much tiara masue as you want. Fresh homemade Italian tiara masu.
By the truckload. That's my favorite. A famous restaurant in the city. Uh supposedly the birthplace of Tierra Masue. Oh is why uh this city was chosen for the first annual Tierra Masue run.
Dude! Okay, you're right. That might be the only race that I ever race. 10K. Seven miles. Can I do seven? It's all for the Tier Masseo, baby.
10.1k took place on October 11th, yesterday. Okay. The route winded through, wound through the historic center and the surrounding area of this city called Treviso in Italy. And uh it was designed not only for the experienced runners, but also for amateurs and recreational athletes. After crossing the finish line, uh, which uh or once you finished walking, the race isn't strictly competitive, and you can compete the course by walking. You have to walk the 10k. Great! Participants are treated to an unlimited serving of freshly prepared tiara masu at the finish line. Unlimited serving.
And you can walk. And you can walk. Okay, I'm in.
But if you get there first, you're getting fresher, and there'll be more tiara masu. They said unlimited. I know. So they better not. You also get a commemorative tiara masue run t-shirt. I don't even care about that. I just want the tiersu.
You can walk and get unlimited tiara masseux. I know. That is the race for me. I know.
You would actually compete in a 10K. Oh, yeah. For Tiara Masue. Oh, yeah. So now my question is this. Okay. If I prepare, like I've said for years and years and years that I want to train, and I actually have access to someone who was like offered to coach me to get back into shape to run a 5K. If I did that, would you compete with me for Tiara Masue?
I'll get you all the tiara masu you want. Do I have to run? You have to compete in the race with me.
You didn't answer me. Sometimes they do like a one-mile walk or a one-mile run or something like that. A fun run. I'll go do the 5K part.
You complete the one mile fun run part. Okay. And we'll have tiara masu at the end. Okay. We'll do our own tiara masue run. Okay. Mostly I want to get you out there running. Why? No, because I think you're gonna love it. I don't. For the cake.
I run for the cake. That's what my shirt needs to say. I run for cake. Yeah. In it for the cake.
Not to win it. I'm here for the cake. We'll run for cake. I'm here for tiara masseux. That is funny. Anyway. Alright, well, good deal. We're gonna figure this out.
Okay. I'm gonna get in shape and I'm gonna run this thing because I I really do want to. And then I want you to run as well or compete at some level for cake. Why though? For cake.
Yeah, I know, but why can't I just have cake?
Because I think the the the whole process of like being involved in it, you might enjoy. Doubtful. You might. Be like, look, I did a thing. Right? Like, when's the last time you won a trophy? High school. Well, before that. Before that. But I mean, not I mean, between now and then. Like you you've won a trophy between now and then. At the cookie party. You want to talk about it?
Oh no. I don't. Because you get mad. Yeah. I mean, some of us won trophies. Not all of us. Sorry, mine was better.
Oh, you gotta be kidding me. Here's today's show.
Hello. Happy Monday. Yes.
Uh rainy one still. I knew when I looked at the weather forecast and it said it was gonna be raining all night and it would be raining in the morning when we got up. I I knew to expect rain. It was pouring on me when I left the house.
I let the dog out this morning and it was not raining. And then when I went to let her in, she started barking. And I went to let her in, and she was like, oh, it's it's real raining.
Well, I had to give her a bath yesterday because it was so rainy and gross. And it's gonna keep raining.
This morning. I was talking about this morning. No, I know. Oh, okay. I'm just saying.
Same thing happened yesterday, and then she was all gross, and so I had to give her a bath.
Well, the bath didn't do any good because she's gross again. Well, great. She's muddy again. Awesome. So sorry about that. And it's supposed to rain a pretty good portion of today.
All day. Uh, yeah. All day. But we are not getting the snow that Montana got. Oh, bro.
I'm so glad that I don't live in Montana right now
because I mean, even the higher mountains around here, like salmon, snow. Really? Oh, yeah. If I I mean, according to the radar anyway, the rain turns to snow in the higher elevations. Yeah. I'm so not ready for that. Me neither.
I did on Saturday, because it rained on Saturday a little bit too, didn't it? Uh-huh. I did feel I was feeling the fall vibes when it was a little bit chilly.
You're enjoying that part, huh? It was.
And now I because I have the rest of the day off after the show. I forgot about that. You're lucky. I know. I'm gonna go probably just like have a cup of tea and enjoy the rain with a nice book. And the dog. Nope. I'm going to Lock her away somewhere. Okay. She'll be around. I know it. Yeah. Yeah.
Snow in the salmon area. I'm looking at like snow. I mean, a lot of rain up into the island park area. I would expect to have seen more snow there, but once you get to the Montana border for sure snow, and Montana got hammered. I mean all the way up. We were looking at uh Missoula, uh Helena, like all of that stuff. Just snow, snow, snow, snow, snow.
This is a crazy little storm.
It is coming through. Uh, I mean, this thing started in the uh Pacific Ocean and then pushed all the way up. Uh it's uh it like caused crazy storms at Lake Powell. Uh like boats were trying to like stay afloat. It's a lot of water. Like it's that's insane.
Yeah. So we still have a flood watch going on uh through today. I'm trying to see when this might end. Yeah, it they're saying that the uh flood watch will end at 6 p.m. tonight. Holy. Yeah. So more rain throughout today.
I'm not mad about the rain. I just don't get flooded, anybody.
That's the real deal, isn't it? Don't get flooded anybody. Scary you. Yeah. That's all. Okay. Well, good morning. Hi, it's Monday. How are you doing? Good. Good. Good to see you. Here's some good news from uh South Dakota State University where college students are putting their gardening skills to work for a great cause, harvesting and donating thousands of pounds of fresh produce to help local families and classmates in need. Uh the campus farm is run entirely by student workers and managers, and it grows a mix of fresh fresh vegetables, herbs, and flowers. They grow carrots, tomatoes, watermelons, leafy greens. This year, the hardworking crew has donated more than 2700 pounds of homegrown fruits and vegetables directly to local food pantries and campus support programs. That's pretty great. So they have a little community garden on the college that the students get to uh partake of you know, grow and then distribute the the harvest. I think that's really cool. That's so cool. Uh beyond providing healthy meals for the community.
The farm also gives students hands-on agricultural experience and a unique chance to make a real difference in their own community. I think that's pretty cool. That is pretty cool. Yeah. Wow. Way to go.
That's good news. I don't necessarily fully understand the scale of collectible cards. Uh meaning like Pokemon, baseball, football, all of the cards you can collect in the whole wide world. What are you I just don't understand how a single piece of paper can be worth all right so much money. It just blows my mind. Uh it blows my mind too. Like I just don't understand the magnitude of it.
I don't understand the scale. I have baseball cards. I have football cards. I have a few basketball and hockey cards. I've uh the kids have Pokemon cards. I don't understand how a Charizard Charizard, as you call them, how a Charizard Pokemon card has sold for 1.38 million dollars.
Somebody okay, somebody paid that. That's what I'm saying. Who has that kind of money to pay for a Pokemon Charizard?
Pokemon card. Yeah. It's a 1999 holographic card. It received a perfect 10 grading score, making it the uh one of only 123 flawless copies known to exist in the world. It's one of 123. Now I'm not saying that's not rare, but that's also like not rare. It's not one of one.
Right. It's one of 123. Uh card experts are comparing this particular Charizard Pokemon card to the iconic 1952 Mickey Mantle baseball card as a crown jewel of collectibles. And again, I'm saying what makes a 1952 Mickey Mantle baseball card so special. Yeah, it's a picture of Mickey Mantle on paper. Right. But it's in great condition. So it's worth a lot more. Do you see what I'm saying?
Oh no, I totally understand.
I don't get it. Uh the collector who sold the card purchased the entire first edition Pokemon card set for about 130,000 in 2019, which was a world record at the time. He purchased a card set for 130,000, and then pulled from that set the 1999 holographic Charizard, which is now sold for 1.38 million dollars. It's incredible.
That's insane. Just give me that money.
The collector got a 20 times return on the investment in just seven years on one card. I just don't understand. But what's the investment? Isn't he spent $130,000 to buy the No?
I understand that the card is the investment, but what really is the investment? It's a card.
It's a picture of a fire breathing dragon.
Even the Mickey Mantle card. I know. I don't get it.
I just it's it's fascinating to me. I don't get it. Again, I've got like rookie cards. I've got things that I go like, yeah. This has a I've got a couple of cards that I feel like were worth a couple hundred bucks. I would offload them. I have no sentimental value to them. I would sell them off, and that wouldn't matter to me.
Fine with me. I know I could use the $200. But I don't know where you like there's websites and stuff where you can sell stuff, but a lot of people want you to have them graded, and then you gotta spend the money to have the card shipped off to tell people what condition it's in. Well, it's a card, it's a piece of paper. I'm gonna put it in a little plastic sleeve uh that's hard, and I'm gonna mail it to you.
And then you're gonna have it and then do what with it. Whatever it's gonna sit. And then you've spent a lot of money on that card. Correct. Oh, look at my card that I spent a bunch of money on. Right. And people go, oh wow.
You spent 1.38 million dollars on that. Look at that Charizard card. Right. It's a card. I know. It's made out of paper. I don't get it. I mean, it's mind-boggling to me. I have hobbies, I get it. I know like you've become like passionate about a thing. I understand. I just don't understand spending a 1.38 million dollars on a Pokemon card.
That's a really, don't get it. really, really nice couple of vacations. Uh couple. That's what I'm saying. Or a really, really, really nice house. Really, really, really nice house.
Or one Pokemon card. Gotta catch them all. You know. It's the way it goes. Pokemon. Not Pokemon. No.
I had a major project over the weekend of cleaning out the fridge. Nobody likes doing that, but it sure feels good when it's done.
I feel like you kind of got into a flow state with it. And you were really kind of, I mean, you deep cleaned it, pulled out drawers and trays and oh, yeah. I mean, you really cleaned out the fridge. Yeah. Yeah.
Did I clean out the freezer? No. Nah. But the too cold in there. The fridge looks awesome. Yeah. I threw away a bunch of stuff. A bunch of old.
You said we had expired sauces and all kinds of things.
A lot of old, outdated stuff. Yeah. What I know that we currently still have in the fridge is a lot of pickled things. Pickles, mostly. Mostly pickles, because you've planted a lot of pickling cucumbers.
And I still have some I could pickle. So many. Yeah.
It's it won't stop. I can't even with the vegetables from your garden. I can't. I can't anymore. I can't even.
What? I've got a bunch of tomatoes that I need to process still. Okay. I'm growing more zucchini right now and more tomatoes right now.
You have one jar of pickled okra in the fridge. Two jars of pickled beets. Yeah. There's at least five jars of pickles.
Some spears, some chips. We gotta eat them. Okay.
Because it's they're too it's taken up an entire shelf in the fridge. It's not that. Are you insane? Did you see it? Did you open it?
It doesn't take up a whole shelf. It was like two rows when I had a morganized. Like that half of a shelf. No, it's two rows. Josh? The fridge isn't just four jars wide. The one shelf is at least five or six jars of bigger.
And then it's taking up half of that shelf. And then we already had, we had store-bought pickles, two, two jars of store-bought pickles. Did you combine that into one? No. Plus a jar of relish. Okay. That's a small jar. It's so many pickled things. So many people.
Why are you coming apart about pickled things? I feel like that's okay. You don't feel like that's okay. Why is it okay? Why is it not okay?
It's fine. I just feel like somebody needs to eat them. That's what I'm saying. Take advantage of those pickled things and eat them. Yeah. So that they're not.
I like to eat pickles on things. I'm not like uh pickled uh just eat a pickles. Snacker. Yeah. You're not a pickled snacker. I like to have like pickles on a sandwich or pickles on a burger.
I gotta try, yeah. I gotta try the beets again. Yeah. Were you not into them? When you first made them, I was not into them.
Right, but then they spent more time and then you were kind of into them, kinda. Kinda. Oh. So don't grow beets again, is what you're telling me. Probably not. Okay.
The way that I feel about beets is the way you feel about pickles, where I can't just eat a beet. You want to put them in a salad. You gotta put them on a salad. Well to make a salad. I don't have any lettuce.
I do I need to plant lettuce? No, no. Well, not now. The next year. Drowning. We're drowning in vegetables. You pulled out two more zucchini. I can't even with the zucchini.
I'm so this has been the best zucchini plant I've ever planted. It really went for it.
Our counter is full of I can't even with the vegetables.
But the garden's getting like wound down. And this week we enter into freezing temperatures and stuff. Like it's going to start. Okay. Ending. Okay, good. Quickly.
You process a bunch of stuff and we froze a bunch of stuff.
Well, and I've put two of the garden beds to bed for winter. I've got one, two, three, four, five, six more to do. But they still have food growing up.
You're still growing peppers.
You're still trying to get something out of your tomatillos. The tomatillos aren't gonna happen. Somebody kept squeezing them.
No, and that is not my fault. It's not my fault. I wasn't squeezing them. I was gently encouraging them. No. Yes.
I was like, you stunted them. No, I didn't. Frightened them and they quit growing. I did not. I got like a million paper shells with no tomatillos in them.
There's there's little tomatillos in them. Right. You scared them by squeezing them. Oh, I encouraged them.
And what's weird, I had remember we got that big frost? Yeah. And it took out one of the tomatillo plants. The majority of the tomatillos are on the plant that I tried to like keep around after the frost. They grew more fruit than the other one did that I bought after the big frost and tried to plant.
Fascinating. But they just kept making flowers, and so I would cut the flowers back. Because if you're producing flowers, you're not producing fruit.
And so I would cut flowers back, and then it would make more flowers than it would have fruit. They do. They do. They they get pollinated, but I already had fruit a plenty. And I wanted it to focus on producing that fruit. See. There's a whole garden thing going on.
Do you have a plan for your garden next year?
I have pl I have many thoughts. What are your thoughts? Oh, uh too many to go into now. Okay. But I have many thoughts. I also have some thoughts. What are your thoughts? I feel like you've got uh a handful of thoughts. I do have a handful of zone. What is it?
Maybe not as much. I know that your zucchini plant was just one. I grew one plant. Plant, but that's a lot of zucchini.
Well, I'm gonna grow one more again. Okay. I probably won't do something.
You shouldn't do as many. No, no summer squash because we couldn't even give that away. Nobody wanted that. Um not as many tomatoes. We have a lot of tomatoes.
I have literally three tomato plants. That's not that many. Your gardener just killed it. I suppose. Yeah. I I could have more carrots and more radishes. Yeah, I like those. For sure, and more snappies.
I never got around to planting my green beans. So I want to do that. I've got plenty of ideas. I can't believe I grew three pumpkins. I'm so happy about that. That's do you know how crazy it is growing a pumpkin? Growing a pumpkin is something else. And corners. And I grew three.
I did grow some corn. You actually did great. I don't mean to complain so much about your vegetables. Because you did great.
And potatoes. I grew potatoes.
I should be stoked about all of the vegetables that you've grown. Yeah. You've created food for us. Thank you. You're welcome. Now eat it. I'm working on it. When you pull up at a red light, do you look straight ahead or do you look at the car next to you?
I don't really pay attention that much, actually. I'm trying to think. Like I think I just hang out.
Like you look ahead. Maybe I mean I'm not just like only looking ahead.
I might just like look around. I'm watching like cross traffic or whatever. I'm looking in my mirrors. I'm seeing what's going on around me. I'm not just spacing out looking forward. Oh, you know. Like my neck is locked. Like, don't look around. Like blinders on.
The last couple of times that I've ridden with you, I t I typically kind of look around too, but it's mostly it feels awkward to look at the car next to you.
I don't know. But the last couple of times that I've ridden with you, and I've been in the passenger seat, I've looked over, and the car next to me has also looked over, and we've made eye contact, and it's been so awkward. Next time it happens, stay there.
Really just lock in. Just keep it there until they look away.
You said this last time it happened, I go, Oh, I just made eye contact with that person. And you go, Did you wave?
Yeah. You should. I'm saying, like, really make it a thing. If it's gonna be uncomfortable anyway, make it uncomfortable.
But why? Why is it so weird? Because you don't know who that is. I don't know who it is.
And you and you met eyes. And so if you if you're looking over there and they look over, do like a creepy wave, like a hi. Like one of those. Like a real small, like finger heavy wave. Like a not like a not like a big like a buddy.
Hi. Not like I'm talking like a like a real slow, like, hey. Hey. Hello. Like one of those. One of those that makes you go like, I shouldn't look around while I'm sitting in the uh light.
Or maybe like a cool loose like peace sign, like no what up. No. Why not that?
Make it awkward. Don't try. No, that's awkward for you trying to be cool. I'm saying like take it up on the awkward. First of all. Or go ahead. I was just thinking about it.
just going to say, It is never awkward for me to be cool. Okay. So what about this one? Okay, guys.
What about you look over when they make eye contact? You do like the finger on either side of your mouth, spread it out and go blah. that. Like that. No. That would be fun. No.
What about not what cool people what about when you do like the crazy eye thing at the same time? You're like, ah, make a scary face. You know? Really make them contemplate why they should look why they should look away. Like I should not look at that person. Ah. You know.
I don't want to do any of those things. Because you know what? I'm gonna do the peace sign and be like, what up because I'm cool. And that's what cool people do. No, they don't. No. No, they don't. What do cool people do then? Nothing. Well, then that's what I have.
Cool people have one hand up on the uh steering wheel, but it's like wrist on the wheel, and they're kind of like cash. I was a passenger. They look over. I know, I'm telling you. Okay. And they look over their shoulder and they just do a head nod, like what's up? That's what cool people do.
But what do passenger cool people do? Aye. Like that. That creepy look with that weird wave. We we were driving the other day and you saw a car that had laboo boos hanging from the rear view mirror. And you pulled yours off and you were like.
did, I held it up I was like, I got one too. They didn't look over. I really hope they did.
No, but your daughter was like, why are you doing that?
Yeah. She said, Why did you show them your laboooboo? And I went, because they have one too.
Stop doing that. Make it weird.
If it's already gonna be a weird thing, just really polish off the weirdness.
The weird is my middle name. So that'll be easy for me. Hi. I get off work on Friday. Yeah. We're running a couple of errands. I have big plans for my Friday night. I had some chores that I need to do around the house.
And then I said, and then I'm just gonna kick back. Maybe we'll throw on a movie. We'll get some snackies. And then Harris Emory, Mom, homecoming is tomorrow.
Can you make a boutoner? And it's probably five o'clock on Friday. And I go, that was not on my list of things to do. Back to the store. Also, why did you wait till the day before to ask me?
Have you met have you met kids? This is what kids do. This is what kids do. Why do kids do this?
Well, because uh preparation and uh you know being ahead of things isn't necessarily on brand. It's just not no. No, there's no time for that.
So we go and we get some flowers. I had some of the other stuff before because I've made boutineers before again at the last minute. I should have known better. This is my fault, actually, kind of. Because I've made boutineers before at the last minute.
Yeah, and you should have asked. You should have said, Hey, do you need me to do that? I should have. It's my bad. It is, it's on you.
I know it is.
It's not what do you mean it is? No, it's not on you.
So I as we were watching TV, I whipped out a bouton ear.
And it was good. It was really good. Yeah, you did great.
I've made corsages for her in the past, too. Um, they're actually kind of fun to make. I don't mind making them. They're super easy.
Well, let me tell you, here's the thing I learned. What? You don't know what wire cutters look like. And when you have to cut, because you used um uh you used uh fake flowers for it.
Yeah. Uh and they have the wire stem, and you have to cut that short. And I said, uh you you came back with some jewelry tool that has like little round things. So I don't even know what that tool does. I don't either.
I thought they were wire cutters, they're not.
That's a jewelry making tool.
They have little wire cutter things in there.
No, not for anything substantial.
Well, I went and got your wire cutters, and they you didn't.
You went and got my needle nose pliers, not wire cutters. And you you came back for with that, and I said, I I guess that'll work, but that's not the right tool. Well, it didn't work, no kidding.
I you told me where to look in your toolkit.
That's where all my all of my pliers are in that one drawer, yes, including the needle nose and the wire cutters, and I have legitimate like big ones that you didn't get. I should have got those. Yeah.
Because what I was working with was not working, yeah. And I was getting real frustrated. Right.
And you were like, I can't even squeeze this hard enough to cut this. And so I was like, Well, here you go. Click. But it if you would have got the right cutters. Yeah. Which I have several of them.
Well, maybe you could have gone to get it. Since I was it wasn't my project. Uh I'm sorry. And I was watching TV. I was busy.
My feet were up, couldn't be bothered.
I can't even believe you. Maybe I need my own tool, my own wire cutters. Why? Because then I won't have to use yours all the time. Google wire cutters. I was just gonna do that.
And then look at the image of wire cutters. Okay. And tell me that's the same as needlenose pliers.
Why did the needle nose pliers have that wire cutter thing on them then? For convenience. Well, why doesn't it actually cut wire?
It it can, but not to the oh, yeah, I've seen these before. Yeah, no kidding. Those are designed to cut wire. And I have a I have that like in the picture, that regular pair, and then I have a bigger pair.
Oh, I should have gotten a bigger pair. Right. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Well, now I know. Yeah.
So when I said go get the wire cutters, that's what I meant.
You should have said, not the needle nose. Right. This is what you should have said. Right. It's your fault.
It's oh, you're right. Just like it was your fault, you didn't think to build a boutonier early. Build. Yeah. Needle nose pliers with a built-in wire cutters. Uh it's mostly for smaller um wires. It's a very small wire.
Well, you would think that flowers, fake flowers have small wire.
They have a sturdy wire. It was intense. Yeah, it's a sturdy wire.
The wire on those fake flowers. Was intense. Was it? Yep. Was it intense? Anyway. Anyway, I was pleased at myself for making a boot near last minute.
You did great. It would it turned out awesome. It was pretty cute, wasn't it? Yep, it was.
And I even told her because she's had trouble in the past pinning the boot near on. I said, look, I've made the ribbon here and I've tied a knot in it so that it'll be easy for you. Through the ribbon. And she goes, okay. And then when she actually went to pin it on on Saturday night, she goes, This is too hard. I went, I made it easy for you. Apparently not.
That's also your fault. So everything is my fault. I mean.
It's the mom's fault always.
Wrong tool for the job. Didn't pre-think that you should already have that ready.
Well, now I know what I'm looking for. When I say wire cutters, excellent. We should play a game. Okay.
Where I go, here's the job I need to do. What tool would I use to do this job properly? Okay, go. And then you look through the drawer and hand me the tool you think I need to do the job. That would be an interesting thing. It would. It'd be fun. Yeah.
And then you have to do the job with the tool I give you. No. Yeah, you do.
No way. Absolutely not. It's a game. No, the game is you pick the tool. There is no follow-through after that. Well, that's no fun. I was having a good time.
We had to go to the hardware store, and I get real bored at the hardware store.
I don't know why you do. There's so much to look at.
Well, there is. And I make my own kind of fun at the hardware store. So when I say I get bored, that's not necessarily true.
Can I also point out that you making your own fun means annoying other people in your family? Not always the case. When you play the flute, does that not make your daughter run away? I think she kind of thinks it's funny. And by play the flute, I mean pick up an item that has holes in it and turn it into a flute.
Yeah. And to be fair, well, I just want everybody to know I'm not putting my mouth on this actual.
No, you hold it up like a flute and you go. Yeah. And then you follow people around going, yeah.
I make all kinds of instruments. Yeah. If you're in the tube aisle. The tubes. Mm-hmm.
Now, what aisle I've been to a lot of different stores. I've never seen the tube on the plumbing aisle. Now that's different than the biggest.
There's all kinds of tubes in there. Those are pipes. Those tubes. Pipes and tubes are the same. Interesting.
Is a tube a pipe? Look it up.
A tube and a pipe. Same thing. Look it up.
We're looking it up. Are tubes and pipes the same? No. The first answer. No. Okay. A tube and a pipe are not the same. People often use the words interchangeably. They differ in how they are measured, their shapes, and what they are used for. A pipe is a round vessel used to transport fluids or gases.
A tube is used for structural support, mechanical components, or precise heat transfer. Same. Nope. It's the same. Also, I've never gone to sword and said, I'm looking for a tube.
They're both conduits for fluid. Conduit? Yeah, check that word out.
Yeah, you did. What where'd you read that? A pipe is always round, but a tube can be round, square, rectangular, or oval. What? Yep.
Tubes. Okay. Pipes and tubes. Same thing. So if we're in the tube aisle, or pipe aisle. Plumbing section. Those can be used as drums. Those can be used as flutes, clarinets, saxophones. Anything. I use anything. You just have to use it.
Any kind of wind instruments.
You just have to use your vent.
And then you also said as drums. Yeah. Explain.
Well, like you take your hand on the end.
Oh, and you go boom, boom, boom, boom. Like you're part of the blue man group. You carry a flip-flop around. And so when I say that's a PVC pipe. Right. Yeah.
When I say I get bored at the hardware store, I don't really because I know how to make my own kind of fun. Yeah. I just wish that you weren't so focused on finding what you need so that you could also have fun. I'm not there for that.
I had to go back to the hardware store yesterday afternoon because I needed a coupler. And you went in by yourself. In the plumbing section.
And it wasn't any fun, was it?
It was me and two other dudes staring at the shelves, trying to go, where is the piece that I need? Because here's what I here's my gripe, folks. If you're looking for a specific coupler and you know exactly what you're looking for, and you've checked the app and it says it's on aisle three, bay 19, and you're standing there and you're looking at all the little hooks, and you're like, I know I should see it. And you look at the price, and it says it's six dollars and ninety-four cents, and you're looking at all the price tags and scanning to find the one that says 694, and you can't find it. And then you find the one that says 694, but the stuff hanging on the hook is not what you're looking for. It's some other part.
Hey, move the front two, and the part you're looking for is behind them because someone was lazy and didn't put stuff back where they picked it up from. Drive me crazy.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Stuff.
Let's relind. We were having a great time.
And then you got all I had to go to the plumbing section and find a coupler, and I had to move stuff because people were lazy and didn't put it back where it goes.
So I put it back on the hook where it goes, and there was the part I was asked. Look at looky do. Looky do. Whatever that means. Looky do. Just I'm just saying.
What I don't appreciate is when we were at the hardware store and I was making my own kind of fun. Emory asked you, where did you find her?
And you said she didn't say where did you find her? She said, This is the one, huh? This is the one you picked. And I said, Don't tell her, but she was the only one they had left. And we laughed and laughed and laughed. And you went, what? I said, nothing.
You said I was the floor model.
No, I did not. That was way later. I said, after I after I said, no, she's the first choice. She's the best choice. And I I put the sarcasm away. Then you came up and said, What? And I said, uh, I said, Oh, she was asking uh why I chose you. And I said, because you were the best choice.
I knew. And then you said, oh, sure. That's what you said, because we were having a little giggle.
You're having a little laugh. That's not what you guys said. So then I explained the situation, and then the discussion sort of devolved into, yeah, she was the floor model. She's the one that was on demo, and they offered it a discount open box. It was like, you know. I am a display. Last one. All this fun.
And I'm super inexpensive. What a deal. What a deal. You got a total steal. You like a good bargain.
Here she is. I got a value. Let me tell you.
Little little dinged up on the edges.
You're not. You're not. Elite model, I tell you. One of a kind. And I'm grateful for that. If there was a dozen of you, I'd be like, no. I want something unique. And here I got it.
How convenient that we're out shopping with our daughter who has a job and makes her own money. And she puts stuff in our cart that she's gonna buy. And then when we get to the check stand, she says, I forgot my wallet. Yeah. Can I just pay you back? She didn't pay.
Which is never gonna happen. No, she just Of course not. And so we buy the thing and then we leave, and then everyone forgets, and she's like, got my thing. Well, I said for it.
Oh, don't you have tap to pay after that?
Yeah, but it already been added to our order, and she's like, too late. Too late. It's already, it's already been scanned. I want to try that trick. To who? I don't know. To me? Yeah.
Same bank account. Same money. I want to try it to her.
Oh, I forgot my wallet. Dang it. Oh no.
Can you get this? I'll pay you back. I said, you still owe me for the shoes I bought you the last time you forgot your wallet. Isn't that true? Oh no, I was gonna clean the house. Mm-hmm. Because she didn't even have the money for that. Mm-hmm. Said, oh, when's that gonna happen? Tomorrow.
I mean, she did help me with the shed that day. That's true. Which was she was a big help, but I is it was she shoes worth help? I mean, I feel like you helped with one project, but there's more to do.
Oh, there's a million more to do. A million more to do. It just is. There's a million more to do. I just I don't know. I want to play that game where I just forget my wallet. Oh, whoops. Yeah.
I just want to play that when I go to the store, and the store goes, it's okay. We got you.
Yeah. You can pay us back.
You you frequent this place enough. This one's on us. That's what I want to have happen. I want to show up with a cart full of groceries. And they go, you've done enough. This one's on us.
Yeah.
That would be awesome, wouldn't it? Amazing. What a campaign. You you shop here all the time. Like, what a great campaign for a grocery store to go, we know we know you are a frequent shopper. You have our rewards. We see how much you spend here.
This one's on us. That would be awesome. Wouldn't that be a wonderful surprise? That would be a wonderful surprise. Never happened.
Would work at a gas station too. Yeah. Yeah. You fill up here all the time. Hey, you're a regular here. Yeah. This one's on us. Oh. Brilliant. Josh. It'll never happen. Don't even get your hopes up. But that's a cool idea. Yeah.
Hey, gas stations and grocery stores. That one's on us. For free.
Yeah, you can have that idea so long as I can be a beneficiary of that idea. Absolutely. Just one time. One time. I just want to get up there with the cart and have them go, not today.
The one time that they do that is the time that you're only there with like three things.
Of course.
I just came for dog food and Yeah. we got you. I got a half a gallon of milk and
a thing of pasta sauce and a and a bag of dog food. And they're like, we got you. We got you. This one's on us. And you go, not when I didn't have the big cart.
I want to go get the big cart. No take back. Yeah. You're exactly right. But what a fun thing that would be. That would be a good thing. Yeah. Take that.
Forgot my wallet. And they'd be like, it's okay. We got you. We got you this time. We got you, boo. You don't even have to pay us. That's what the campaign's called. We got you, boo. It's an October campaign.
Yeah. Or a Valentine's Right. Because boo means sweetheart. But isn't it spelled differently? Like and it's pronounced Bo B A U. No, because they say boo. We got you. Boo. Who got you, boo? But my bae, B-A-E. Nobody uses that anymore. We got you, bae. Don't be old. What? Don't be old.
No one uses bae anymore. Why? I don't know. I don't make the rules.
Who were not using like the whole bae copy sleeping meme? No. That was so funny. People taking pictures of themselves, like a selfie, their arm up and they're pretending to be asleep. Bay com me sleeping.
Like no one's in your house. What did Bay even stand for? It's like babe without the B. B A E.
They just took out the second B. Cool. Don't be old. So as a fun little thing, you like to talk about uh name you'd like to be called when you were a grandma. Yes. And you said it was Mima.
No, it's Gam Gam. Why? I think it's awesome. I think it's funny. Game game? Yeah. The kids hate it. Yeah. And our kids are nowhere close to having a big one. Which I'm grateful for. I am also grateful.
Not like your sister who has three grandchildren because she's way older. Old. Right.
Right. Um they hate that I've chosen Gam Gam as my grandma name. Right. Now there are people, my sister who does did not want to be called grandma when she became a grandma. Correct. So she goes by Gigi.
Which is older than grandma to me. I feel like these are old. I feel like game game. Gam game. GG. These are like Gigi also feels like that's a name for great grandma. Two G's, isn't it?
Gam games sounds super old, but it also like that's what you call legs. Like these games. I've never heard that. You haven't? No. Oh, I've heard that before. Where? I don't know. People refer to them. No. Look it up. I can't be bothered. Okay. Well, I just think it's when I tell the kids, I go, when you're kidding, when you have kids and your kids are like, let's go see gam game. That's gonna be awesome. And then when they say me and they go, gam.
I just I just like grandpa. I think that's good enough. Uh, but I also am okay with letting the grandchildren choose. Yeah. Like I'm fine with that. Like if they come up with a name and they want to call me that, that's fine. Yeah. If that's a a pop pop or a papa or a grandpa or a grand old granddad. Do you have British children? Maybe. I don't know. I don't know what'll happen in the future. Granddad.
Granddad, tell me a story. Right.
I'll be like, quit with the accent. It's strange. So this is something I saw online. Apparently, this guy's grandpa decided that Grampy no longer reflected the energy that he wanted to bring into his remaining years. And so he sent a message to his grandson and said, I was thinking, you call me Grampy because when you were little, I wanted you to just call me grandpa, but you couldn't say it right.
But I realized the naming agreement is really between you and me. And now the person who's posting this online is much older, right? Like maybe late teens, early 20s. And he says, You're my only grandson, so technically we can change it to whatever we want. Yeah. And the grandson said, okay, what do you want to be called?
And he said, something dangerous. Maybe Warhammer or Blood Fang. Or Gary the Merciless. And the grandson said, if you run these options past Nana. Right. It was Nana and Grampy. And he said, if you run these options past Nana, and then grandpa said she does not approve. No.
But that's between him and his grandson. That's what I'm saying. Nana gets it.
I gotta go visit Warhammer or Blood Fang. Or Gary the Merciless. I love I like it. I really do.
Guess what? You just get to make it up.
That's what I'm saying.
You just get to call it whatever you want It's a Non uh non-written, an unwritten agreement between a grandparent and grandchildren on what you call them. And you can have it be wherever you want it to be. Swordmeister. Yeah. I should come up with something cooler than Gam Gam. That's what I'm saying. What do you want to be called?
Well, I'm still okay with just grandpa. To be clear. I'm gonna come up with something. Pretty good with that. I like blood fang. Do you? And then do you. You know, kids like to talk. Oh, grandma blood fang.
So then when they're in in kindergarten.
Right. And they're gonna go to my blood fang's house. They're like, what? I'm gonna go visit Blood Fang. Uh that's my grandma. Blood Fang loves me the most. That's the best. I know. Isn't that fun?
Yeah, I love it. Okay, I gotta come up with something cooler. Yeah. Gam gamin it. Gam gam ain't gotten it anymore.
No. Not when you could have blood fang. So cool. What's up?
Um, okay. So I have I have two jobs. I have this job and uh what I like to call my real job.
Right, because this job doesn't count. No, it doesn't matter. Because this job is sitting around talking to me.
Yeah, it's just like hanging out with you. Right. But some dummy keeps paying me. Don't say it out loud. I know. So I have that part of my job off after this. So at 10 o'clock, I'm a free woman.
Right. I'm going home. You just asked, hey, you want to go to lunch? And I go, no. I'm gonna go home and I'm gonna stay inside my house.
Yeah. I'm gonna eat some leftovers of some corn chowder that I made last night. I brought the noodle dish. Oh. Okay. I didn't bring the soup. There was also leftover enchiladas. There's a lot of things.
I saw those. I know. We've got three different leftovers right now.
Anyway, um, my plan is last year. I bought you know what? It might have even been two years ago. I think it's been two years. Oh no. Uh I bought this pattern, this kit to make a Halloween countdown. Yeah, yeah.
It's a Halloween countdown. Right. And it's made out of fabric. And it's like the little rings that you made out of paper, but you make it out of fabric and velcro.
Sure. And I bought it two years ago to make, and I still have not made it. And it just went in my craft room to drive to die.
And Emory, my daughter, gives me a lot of grief. You're never gonna make that. You're never gonna make that. And I said, yeah, this year I'm gonna make it. This was clear in September. Yeah. Is that I'm gonna make it, and I have a month. I'm good. What day is it?
October 12th. So you might as well only sew as many as you need.
That's true. I only have to make half of the project. Anyway, that's my plan is to finally get that Halloween gamma down made. Yeah, I would make the whole thing. Well, I am gonna make the whole thing.
Because then next year you don't have to do the other half of the project.
No, I'm gonna, I'm gonna make the whole project. I'm not gonna just make half of it. That's your
plan, though? That's your plan? That's my whole plan for today. Is that what's going to happen. Yes. That was sort of convincing. But the look you gave was not. So talk to me.
Here's what happens. I go home and so Emory doesn't have school today because they have Mondays off. Right. And sometimes she gets a little bothersome. Oh. So she'll come and she'll be like, I'm so hungry. I'll be like, I you're 17 years old. Go figure it out. Right.
We gotta, we got all kinds of stuff. I'm so bored. I go entertain yourself. Right.
Or the dog will be barking.
Well, you'll be downstairs. So the dog will be upstairs.
Yeah, but she gets to the top of the stairs. She's not allowed downstairs, so there's a gate. Right. But she'll go to the top of the gate and she whines. I've never had that happen. Oh my, because she knows you don't take care of her. That's not true.
She knows that I'm not a pushover.
I'm sorry. When she has to go outside and she's different.
She's not sitting up there whining because she has to go outside. She's sitting up there whining because she knows you're downstairs. I know. If I go outside, she sits in the dining room, like, what is everybody doing outside? I'm not outside. She likes to be next to people.
I just, there's a couple of distractions. And so I'm worried that that's gonna distract me. And then also sometimes I go and I get distracted by like housework that needs to be done. And I don't want to do that. I know. Don't do that. I'm not gonna. Okay. I'm gonna focus.
Okay. And get her done to Halloween countdown. I'm excited for it. On the 12th of October. Where are you gonna hang it when it's done? I don't know yet. You're in the window. No, it's not that.
There's already too much going on in the window. You've got garland and lights and garlands hung up, and there's no room for it in the window.
I don't really have room for it anywhere. Well, maybe in the dining room somewhere, corner to corner up there.
Cross the uh across the wall with the with all the mugs and stuff in the calendar. might be cute, Josh. Next to the calendar makes sense.
No, Josh, that would be cute.
Maybe vertically down the side by the calendar. So that you just have the one up top that you have to work to. I'm excited for you. It'll be fun and you can enjoy it. I'm good. I just asked if you wanted to have lunch with me, and you said no.
So no, you said, Do you want to bring me lunch? And I said no. Yeah. Because that's what usually happens on my day off.
Right. Do you want to run errands for me?
Exactly. And I go, no. This is my day. Not a day to run stuff for you. You get it. Leave me alone. Everybody leave me alone today. Would you rather grow fangs or fur?
Oh, it's already that. Yeah. Fangs or fur. I feel like I already have like I'm a mammal, so I've got uh a bit of like hair. Okay. So I feel like I'm already covered in that area. Do I want fangs? Not particularly. Do I want to be more furry? No. I don't necessarily like these options.
I feel like fangs are easier to hide.
Yeah, except for the points of those two. Yeah. You just gotta keep your top. two like to kind of hang out. Yeah, you just keep your tap looked down. I'm not gonna do that. I hate that in that sound. That's awful.
You're gonna have a talk like this. No. I will not. I refuse.
I don't want fur because I feel like that could get real itchy and uncomfortable really fast. Yeah, I don't know. You'd be warm. I know, but just think about having a hot flash while you're covered in fur. That feels that sounds awful. Furry hot flash? Yeah. It sounds awful.
But also, what about when you're cold and then you're not because of your fur? Ooh, nice.
Yeah, except then everyone would see all your fur. It's harder for you to hide your fur. I'd rather have fangs. I'm picking fangs. Interesting. What are you picking? I don't know.
I I feel like I said, I'm already, I've got some hair. Yeah. So you're right. But if I was like full head-to-toe fur, crazy. On your face. Yeah, I know. That's what I'm saying. Fur on your face. But I'd have a head of hair again.
That's true, Josh. Ooh. Luxurious.
No. You think I'm gonna comb it? No way. It's fur. It's going crazy. Am I gonna have like a full furry body and like an updo? No. Why not? No. Put some ribbons in it. Absolutely not. Some bees. Like the lion. Yeah.
You could put, you know how young people are putting in like that tinsel, and you always go, that's it.
It's fly fishing material.
It's fly type. It's fly tying material. They're tying fly tying material into their hair. You can do that if you have fur. I don't want to. You just said you might pick the fur one.
No, I was debating about being covered in fur. Okay. And I don't know that I'm in love with it. So I think I'm picking the fangs. Typical. Pick what I pick. No. I picked what I picked, and it's fangs.
This is your story to tell.
Why is this my story to tell?
Because you are the one that hates it.
But you're the one who cheers this behavior on. Because I don't see the problem. so excited to Yeah. To have listen, here's what happened. I was a kid. I had a bedroom at home, and I like to hang up Christmas lights in my room.
I thought it was fun. This is before LED strips. Everybody does LEDs in their bedroom now. And you'd be like, oh, look, it's cool.
I can change the colors and stuff. I just had twinkly Christmas lights strung up around the room. It was fun.
I liked it. I hung them up with push pins, little thumb tacks. Stuff you use in a cork board. And uh not the little flat ones, the ones with the little post, right?
Yeah. Push the pin, push it in the wall, untwist the little green wire a little bit, put it over the thing, twist it up. I learned very quickly that doesn't hold very well. And at one point my dad went, Have you tried nails? And I went, that's a good idea. Uh and so I switched out to nails and I never looked back. And I went, you can't hang stuff with thumbtacks unless I beg to differ. It's a piece of paper. And our son is working on moving some things out of his bedroom and into his new place.
And as he's working on that, he's taking down wall decor and he's moving it over and he's hanging stuff up at his new place, and he's like, I gotta get some push pins because I used to hang everything with push pins, and I don't have any way to hang anything. And I went, you have to be kidding me. You have to be kidding me.
I'm afraid he learned that by watching me. No kidding. I hang everything with a push pin. I know.
You will hang with thumb tacks as well, which are the flat ones. Correct. I feel like a push pin is the pin shaped with the post. A thumb tack is just flat. Yeah. And I don't know why you hang anything with thumb tacks. It works. No. I can think of too many things in the house.
Three, four, five, six, seven. Seven things off the top of my head that are hung by a pushpin. Oh, I have witches' hats.
Here we go. Those, so that's adequate. Okay. Here's the thing. Lightweight has to be a lightweight item. That's not always true. Has to be a lightweight item. Most oftentimes is hung by a fishing line string situation, or it's paper. Those are the two things you can use them for. They belong in cork boards, and that's it. Oh, I use them for all kinds of stuff. I know. And then stuff falls down, and you're like, oh, why'd that keep falling? And I go, I wonder.
It only falls because somebody knocks it over. Because it's an inadequate hanging method. No, no, no. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Fine until somebody knocks it over.
And I'm disappointed, and our son said, Oh, I need to get some thumbtacks to hang all this stuff up. And I went, What? Have you tried nails? Have you have you thought about nails? So went to the store, bought him his own little package of nails, and I went, hang stuff the right way. Good job. Yeah. Good job teaching him.
He could have done fine with his push pins.
No. He has a Lego Lamborghini that he hung on the wall, and he used two nails to hook into the back axle where the Lego is uh now hung on the wall. And I went, that's adequate. And he put them at an angle and it sits right on him, and I went, good job. See how that will stay hung for a long time.
If you put things in with a nail, you always have to find a hammer. If you have a thumb tack, you just push it. Done. One step project. Done and done. Do you know where the hammers are located? Yes. How hard is it to get to them?
Not very at all. Not at all.
Yeah, but yeah, but then you gotta use it and then put it away. Yeah. It's a multi-step project when you involve a hammer. Come on. Can't be bothered. You're killing me. You're killing me. Use nails. Hang it once. Not temporarily. I'll decide. No kidding.
You will. And you're gonna do whatever you want, and then stuff's gonna fall down. And I'm gonna go, if you would have used a nail. I know.
This is been happening for 21 years. It's okay. Have you thought about a nail? Yeah, I did. And then I used the thumb tack instead. I'm disappointed. I know. Get used to it.
