Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise. –
Proverbs 6:6 NKJV
In the dead of a tropical night, a vast army prepared an attack.
Routes were planned, ranks were organized. Millions of legs were set
in motion, moving in perfect sync to a silent order. Their target: my
home.
12:30 A.M: A noise pierced the damp midnight air. A slight
crackling—the sound of a million feet marching, marching, marching.
The sound wove itself into my dream, and I woke with a start. Sleep
blinded my eyes as I reached a woozy hand toward the light switch.
Lamplight flooded the room. Horrified, I gazed open-mouthed
at the scene taking place on my bedroom floor. A virtual carpet of ants
swarmed over the finished woodwork, rapidly making their way to
where my bed stood in the corner. Gingerly stepping around the army
of arthropods, I noticed that they did not even attempt to provoke or
bite. They had no intention of hurting the humans in the house. These
ants were focused on one purpose: ridding their pathway of unwanted
pests! As the moving columns swept through the cracks and crevices
of our house, bugs, mice, and other vermin were unceremoniously
chased from their hiding spots and forced to flee. After what seemed
like an eternity, the force finished their self-imposed task and moved
on to conquer other territory, much to my family’s relief.
Even though their midnight hours were a bit inconvenient, I
admired those ants extremely. The way they accomplished a task was
incredible! Every movement was swiftly and efficiently carried out, and
they moved as one to accomplish their goals. It was a figurative slap
to my face, for more often than not I’ve dragged my feet, complaining
about small jobs that aren’t worth murmuring about. It seemed to
me that God was smiling, shaking His head at His disgruntled child:
“Ants were created for a reason, Julianna, and if they are capable of
diligence and hard work, how much more are you?”
