Good morning and
welcome to Morning Cereal.
Okay, good morning and welcome to
Thursday, today also
known as World Food Day.
So yes, you officially have permission to
celebrate by eating
something extraordinary
today.
Food, it connects us, it comforts us, and
occasionally it reminds us that leftovers
were invented by geniuses.
Well, speaking of geniuses, musical
genius John Mayer once
said, "Fear is a friend who's
misunderstood."
Okay, a bit of a thinker here.
John's saying that instead of fear being
an enemy that stops
us, we should use it to
guide us, to motivate us, and take on
challenges that we might otherwise avoid.
All right, well, today's news, facts, and
birthdays are for October 16th.
Starting back in 1923, that's when the
Disney Brothers cartoon
studio was founded by brothers
Walt and Roy Disney in Los Feliz,
California, marking the
beginning of what would become
Walt Disney Company.
Well, in this day in 1962, that's when
the Cuban Missile Crisis began.
As US President John F. Kennedy, he was
shown photos that were
confirming the presence of
Soviet missiles in Cuba.
Well, moving up to 1987, that's when I'm
sure you watch this
too, but on this date,
baby Jessica, she was rescued from the
well at her home that
she had fallen down, right?
The whole world watched that.
Well, all these years later, she is now
39 years old, is a
landscape laborer in Midland,
Texas, and she has two kids of her own.
Well, happy birthday to you.
Today is your birthday.
You share a birthday
with musician John Mayer.
He's 48 today.
Actor and actor in one of my favorite
movies, Shawshank
Redemption, Tim Robbins, he's 67
today.
Actress and health advocate, the late
Susan Summers was born on
this date, and the beloved
actress from Murder She Wrote, the late
Angela Lansbury, she was
born on this date in 1925.
Well, the number one song on this date
back in 1990 was Close
to You by Maxi Priest.
Now, this reggae pop track, it became his
signature hit, lending smooth vocals with
island rhythm, and it topped the
Billboard Hot 100 for a week.
And Maxi Priest is actually only the
second British reggae
artist to have a number one.
Who's the other?
It's UB40.
Quick reminder here, you can hear these
sometimes forgotten
incredible songs from years past
on Morning Cereals highlights on
Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok.
All right, well, not forgotten, but top
of mind is Mel
Robbins, the Let Them Theory.
And today we are jumping into the sub
chapter entitled The
Real Reason You're Exhausted
All the Time.
And Robbins begins with
a truth bomb here, okay?
Quote, "You're not lazy.
You're drained from
trying to control everything."
End quote.
Sounds a little familiar.
Well, this chapter breaks down why
emotional
micromanagement leads to burnout.
Every time we replay conversations or
worry about others'
reactions, we leak energy, right?
The Let Them Theory is
her antidote to this.
By letting people, events, and outcomes
unfold without
interference, you stop that mental
drain.
And Robbins writes, quote, "Energy
conservation begins when you stop
rewriting other people's
stories."
End quote.
Now, Robbins highlights how modern
exhaustion isn't just physical.
It's emotional clutter.
We're so tired from overempathy,
overthinking, and over responsibility.
So what's the cure?
Boundaries.
Get some rest.
Get radical permission
to just let go, right?
Peace, she says, quote,
"Isn't found in perfection.
It's found in this permission."
End quote.
So her advice, it feels practical, right?
Take breaks before you break down.
Say no without guilt.
Unplug to recharge.
When you stop controlling every variable,
you recover clarity.
And ironically, you accomplish more.
All right, here's your takeaway.
You're not tired from doing too much.
You're tired from holding too tightly.
Let go, and energy flows back.
So today, feed both your body and your
soul, and eat those
leftovers before they go bad
and just sit in the
refrigerator for way too long.
