Welcome to The Sports Hangover Daily, I'm Sadie. Today on the show: Josh Jacobs back on Green Bay’s board, Philly’s quarterback scramble, Caleb Williams injury math, and Celtics-Sixers preseason noise. Coffee first. Panic second.

Josh Jacobs is coming off the Commissioner Exempt List, and Green Bay just got a very real football player back.
The NFL announced Friday night that Jacobs and Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper are being removed from the exempt list. Jacobs becomes eligible October nineteenth for Green Bay’s Week seven game against Detroit. Cooper is already eligible for Denver against Arizona. The league also said both legal reviews remain ongoing, so no, this is not some clean little bow.
Football-wise, though? Green Bay feels this right away.
The Packers have been trying to get by without their most reliable early-down answer. Jacobs isn’t just a guy taking handoffs. He changes fronts. He fixes short yardage. He gives them red-zone weight. He lets the offense stop treating third and two like it needs a tiny lab coat.
Fantasy-wise, this is not a drop situation. If you held Jacobs through the mess, you may have held the right lottery ticket. His return should shake up touches fast, even if Green Bay eases him in.
And the timing is not subtle. Detroit is not the team you want with a soft run game and vibes. If Jacobs is active, Green Bay can play grown-up football again.
Messy? Very. Useful? Also very.

Around the league, Philadelphia’s injury board looks like somebody spilled coffee on the depth chart.
Jalen Hurts is out against Carolina because of a superficial blood clot in his calf. The Eagles signed Joe Milton off Dallas’ practice squad, and Tanner McKee is set to start. That’s not just a quarterback swap. That changes the whole offense.
A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert — everybody’s touchdown equity takes a hit. McKee might be fine, but Hurts scares defenses with his legs. Without that, Philly loses the cheat code near the goal line.
Philadelphia also placed Will Shipley on injured reserve Friday. That thins the running back room even more. It matters on the field, and it matters for fantasy handcuff math. The Eagles are suddenly one more hit from weird usage.
That Panthers-Eagles number is the one to watch. Hurts being ruled out is driving the market. If that line moves too far through the field-goal range, Philly might be getting punished too hard.
In Chicago, Caleb Williams practiced fully all week and still sits questionable against Atlanta. He called the injury a serious hamstring tear, which is not what you want your franchise quarterback saying out loud.
If he plays, the Bears skill guys get a ceiling bump. If he’s limited, his rushing threat gets clipped and the whole offense gets nervous. That Bears-Falcons number can move fast if he’s downgraded. Side and total both react when a mobile quarterback turns into a pocket-only version.
New England got real good news. A.J. Brown returned to practice for the first time since his high ankle sprain in the opener. Christian Gonzalez is also trending back from a shoulder injury.
Brown’s return would raise Drake Maye’s ceiling right away. It also makes the secondary Patriots receivers way less comfy for fantasy. Those cute little six-target dreams can disappear fast when the alpha walks back in.
Gonzalez matters on the other side. If he’s back, opposing wide receivers don’t get the same clean matchup bump. That changes how you stream pass-catchers against New England.
Tampa is still stuck in the Baker Mayfield thumb waiting room. Mayfield has been out after dislocating his right thumb, with rookie Jalon Daniels starting in his place. Until Baker is back, Tampa pass-catchers stay downgraded. Quarterback trust matters, timing matters, and rookie chaos is rude to fantasy lineups.
Non-football corner, but worth the sip of coffee: Boston beat Philly one twenty-five to one twenty in overtime in preseason hoops. The Celtics launched fifty-four threes and made seventeen. The Sixers went seven of thirty-eight from deep, which is basketball terrorism with better lighting. Joel Embiid had the highlight buzz, but Boston had the cleaner team night.
In hockey, Colorado beat Pittsburgh five to two, and Boston beat Anaheim four to two. Early October NHL is still in the “don’t overreact unless your goalie looks haunted” zone. The Avalanche putting five on the board is the part that travels.

The Hangover Take: the Bears should sit Caleb Williams unless he is truly ready to be Caleb Williams.
Not “healthy enough to stand there.” Not “cleared enough to manage it.” Caleb’s value is not just his arm. It’s the movement, the escape stuff, the pressure avoidance, the ability to turn a broken play into a defense-wide panic attack.
If the hamstring limits that, Chicago is not getting Caleb Williams. It’s getting a decoy wearing his jersey.
And the Bears cannot afford to be dumb here. Atlanta is one game. A re-injury turns this into a month-long mess. Then everyone starts yelling about the coach, the line, the scheme, the receivers, the moon phase, all of it.
Sit him if the burst is not there. Take the ugly week if you have to.
Because a limited Caleb Williams is not a brave plan. It’s how teams talk themselves into making a short-term problem permanent.

That's your hangover. Go hydrate. I'll see you tomorrow.
