Part 1
Ebo Taylor & The Pelikans – If You Care
- Starting off with some heartbreak from the Ghanaian funk master tonight, Ebo Taylor.
- Still around today, still touring, god bless to Ebo and anyone he’s touched in his illustrious life.
- This is from the band’s self-titled album in 1976, and this one on vinyl is highly sought after if you can find an original pressing. The album also features a tune that later became a Ghanaian anthem in Come Along.
Lord Creator – Such Is Life
- This is the work of Kentrick Patrick, who’s a Trinidadian rocksteady, ska, and calypso musician from back in the day.
- Alongside Cuban-born Roland Alphonso, Barbadian Jackie Opel and fellow Trinidadians Lynn Taitt and Lord Brynner, Lord Creator was an important and positive "outside" influence during the early development of the Jamaican music scene.
Jackie Mittoo & The Soul Vendors – Something Stupid
- Speaking of major early influences on Jamaican music scene, it’s the Studio 1 house band’s organist Jackie Mittoo that just rang out after Lord Creator.
- This album is from Jackie Mittoo in London, released in 1967 and the single is another super rarity to find. If you haven’t figured that out, this is a cover of a song released by Frank and daughter Nancy Sinatra that same year that was a major hit.
The Frightnrs – Dispute
- Moving rapidly ahead in the timeline to finish that last block, up to 2016. This tune appeared on the Brooklyn-based band’s album Nothing More to Say.
- Just months before that record dropped in Sept 2016, lead singer Dan Klein would unfortunately pass away from ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, he was only 33. On the bright side, the album was nominated for a Grammy that next year, and if you never checked the record in full, you certainly should.
- Rest in power Dan Klein.
Prateek Kuhad – cold/mess
Cleo Sol – Why Don’t You
Steve Kuhn – The Meaning of Love
- So, we took a good chunk of time out talking about those last three tunes, and if you haven’t heard any of these heartbreakers coming up, you gotta listen to our show more often! (Recap)
- Once again, dedicated to all the heartbroken out there with me tonight, This is The Drop

Part 2
James Reece & The Progressions – I’ll Find a True Love
- This is off an amazing double album compilation of the band’s best works from 2019 called Wait For Me, which by listening to all of it, you’d be doing yourself a tremendous favor.
- The album was released by Now-Again Records, and features the band’s best stuff from 1967-1972.
Thee Marloes – True Love
- One of our absolute favorites out of Indonesia right here, and Big Crown’s most recent astute signing.
- This was the 2nd single to drop this year, and the band are readying a debut album it seems, but nothing yet announced. True Love along with the a side Logika appear on a 7” single released on October 10.
Darondo – Listen to My Song
- One of the most interesting and engaging voices of his generation, an artist who never got the appreciation he so richly deserved until much later.
- Darondo only put out a handful of 7” singles in his career, and only in 2005 was the Let My People Go LP put out to great acclaim, as Didn’t I became a hit thanks to featuring on Breaking Bad and earlier than that a Gilles Peterson compilation.
Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings – Making Up and Breaking Up (And Making Up and Breaking Up Over Again)
- The Dap-Queen right here, and delivering the pitch perfect song for anybody experiencing heartache and yoyo relationships.
- This tune appeared on the stellar Give The People What They Want LP, released in 2014. Rest in power to Sharon Jones and it must be noted that between losing Dan Klein and Sharon Jones, the good people at Daptone certainly lost a lot in that year. Big up to all involved, god bless.
Orions Belte feat Oyvind Torvund – I Will Always Miss You
- This is from the cinematic funk & soul group outta Norway’s latest LP titled Women.
- I Will Always Miss You features such an incredible string arrangement that just gushes down seemingly from the sky, so hoping that washes over those that need it like me tonight.
Cricco Castelli – Life Is Changing
- Alright, so we’re gonna bump before we jump, and this title pretty much sums it up for me.
- This tune appeared on Castelli’s 1998 album Thank God It’s Funky, and featured as a raucous centerpiece on Derrick Carter’s Cosmic Disco mix, done for Mixmag the year prior in 1997.

Part 3 & 4 – AMPED with Dan Lloyd
Judas Priest – Panic Attack
Judas Priest have unleashed “Panic Attack” as the first single from their recently announced upcoming album, Invincible Shield. The song marks the band’s first new music since 2018’s Firepower LP.
The legendary metal act announced Invincible Shield during their set at the Power Trip festival this past weekend. The band’s 19th studio album will arrive on March 8th.
“Panic Attack” proves that Priest are still on top of their game after more than 50 years as a band. Following a thrilling minute-plus instrumental intro, singer Rob Halford’s familiar voice kicks in on the initial verses. The chorus evokes some “Breaking the Law” vibes, as Halford repeats the phrase “panic attack” multiple times.
As mentioned, Judas Priest just played the historic Power Trip festival in Indio, California. They filled in for Ozzy Osbourne, who had to bow out due to health reasons. Along with Priest, the three-day fest featured AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Tool.

Alkaline Trio – Blood, Hair and Eyeballs
Alkaline Trio have announced their first studio album in six years, Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs, out January 26th, 2024 via Rise Records. Along with the announcement, they also unveiled plans for a 2024 tour and shared the lead single, “Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs.”
The follow-up to 2018’s Is This Thing Cursed? was recorded by the band at a number of studio sessions with producer Cameron Webb, and takes its title from stories that vocalist Matt Skiba remembers from his childhood. “My mom worked for years as an emergency room nurse,” he said in a press statement. “She and her co-workers referred to exceptionally busy nights as ‘blood, hair, and eyeballs.’ Well, we’ve been busy making an exceptional record we refer to as Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs, too.”
Continuing, Skiba explained that the album’s sound was inspired by the process through which the band recorded it. “We approached this new record in completely new ways,” he said. “We built the songs together, from the ground up, in the same room which hasn’t happened since the band started. Usually we start with an idea somebody’s already written. This time, we had the unique opportunity to build the songs onto drums recorded at Studio 606 on to two-inch tape using one of the most beautiful-sounding and legendary consoles in rock. It has almost everything to do with how our new record sounds.”
Blink-182 – Fell in Love
Blink 182 have released a fourth and (hopefully) final single prior to the release of new album ONE MORE TIME… on Friday.
“Fell in Love” is a bubbly ode to (you guessed it) love, as Tom DeLonge recalls the beginning of a relationship over jubilant hand claps and some classic “Na na na”s. “Late night, feeling kinda lonely/ Drive home and no one’s waiting for me/ I don’t miss the days before I fell for you,” he croons, before he and his boo got together and “made out til the sun came up.” It’s fucking wank.

Many Eyes – Revelation
Many Eyes have unveiled their first-ever single, Revelation.
The new project from ex-Every Time I Die vocalist Keith Buckley and his now-bandmates Charlie Bellmore (guitar, bass) and Nick Bellmore (drums, bass and backing vocals) is officially go, with the band releasing the first single from their upcoming album, which has yet to be announced.
Speaking about Revelation’s accompanying video, Keith shares: “My vision for this visual was to present something both familiar and otherworldly. Something that feels as if it were in this world but not of it. It draws from my love of Jodorowsky’s The Holy Mountain as much as it does my adoration of all Christian iconography. The result is an eerily modern mystic vibe that seamlessly blends with the theme of the lyrics and the feel of the record as a whole.”
As for the meaning behind the song, he explains that it is “recognising evil and having the courage, the wisdom and the faith to face it directly. I hope anyone who listens to this song feels empowered to confront injustice, no matter what form it takes in their lives.”

The Libertines – Run Run Run
The Libertines are officially back. The on-again, off-again British rockers have announced All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade, their first album in eight years, and shared its lead single, “Run, Run, Run.”
Spanning 11 tracks and produced by Dimitri Tikovoï, All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade arrives in full on March 8th. “Our first record was born out of panic, and disbelief that we were actually allowed to be in a studio; the second was born of total strife and misery; the third was born of complexity; this one feels like we were all actually in the same place, at the same speed, and we really connected,” said Carl Barât in a statement.
With rousing hand claps and a blown-out, singalong chorus, “Run, Run, Run” takes you straight back to The Libertines’ garage rock revival glory days. “Tonight we’re gonna bring tomorrow’s happiness/ Gonna live like it’s the end,” Pete Doherty sings, ever the party boy.
The LP follows 2015’s Anthems for a Doomed Youth, while last year the band reissued their debut album Up the Bracket in honor of its 20th anniversary.

The Rolling Stones – Sweet Sounds of Heaven
When the Rolling Stones officially announced Hackney Diamonds — their first album of original material in 18 years — and released lead single “Angry,” the band teased some high-profile guests on the LP. Two of them converge on the Stones’ new single out today. “Sweet Sounds Of Heaven” is a slow-burn gospel-inflected ballad that features both Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder, though Gaga’s howling contributions are a lot more obvious to the naked ear. (Wonder plays Fender Rhodes, Moog and piano on the song.)
Mick Jagger told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe about featuring Gaga on the song:
…she’s a really great singer and I’d never heard her sing quite that style before. Not exactly. We did it live in the room and that was a great experience, her just coming in the room and her just opening up and seeing her bits and feeling her way and then getting more confident. And then we came back and then did some extra parts that we hadn’t done on the day and then we did some tidying up and we were just in the overdub room, really face-to-face, getting them really tight, the parts really tight, and then being slightly competitive and screaming.

The Flatliners – Between Our Teeth
The Flatliners have released a new song called “Between Our Teeth”. The band debuted the song live on October 12 at the SAP Center before a San Jose Sharks hockey game. The song will be played at all Sharks home games before the puck drops for the rest of this season. The song is available digitally as well as on 12-inch vinyl from Fat Wreck Chords. Proceeds from the sale of the vinyl will go towards Sistering, an organization that helps women and trans people in Toronto who are experiencing homelessness or who are precariously housed.

Mannequin Pussy – I Don’t Know You
Philly band Mannequin Pussy have announced their new album, I Got Heaven, out March 1st via Epitaph Records. As a preview, they’ve shared the latest single, “I Don’t Know You.”
The group took a different approach to recording the project, convening in Los Angeles to collaborate with indie rock producer extraordinaire John Congleton rather than writing at home. “There was so much going on in our lives that it was the perfect opportunity to recalibrate who we were as people and musicians,” said bassist Colins “Bear” Regisford in a statement.
“When I’ve written songs, it’s usually a very solitary process,” added vocalist/guitarist Marisa Dabice. “So this was shedding a lot of those hermit-like qualities to do something intensively collaborative. Your best work comes when you allow other people into it.”

Duff McKagan – Longfeather
Duff McKagan is gearing up to release his third solo album, Lighthouse, this Friday, and the Guns N' Roses bassist has offered up the folky, elegiac new single "Longfeather."
"'Today is a good day to die' refers not to a macabre yearning for death," McKagan commented, "but rather a lust for life and the learned habits of a good and honest daily striving. Longfeather was protecting his home. He couldn't hold up ALL of the Western wave… but he did his everything to keep his family safe. O Longfeather is gone. And O, Longfeather is home. I see you. I see you. Thank you Longfeather for giving me hope and a solid place to stand."
The 11-track Lighthouse is a star-studded affair featuring guest turns by McKagan's GN'R bandmate Slash, Alice in Chains' Jerry Cantrell and the punk-rock legend himself Iggy Pop. It follows May's This Is the Song EP, which McKagan released in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month.

Glass Beach – The C.I.A.
New Glass Beach! The LA “post-emo” Band To Watch have taken a good long time to follow up 2019’s the first glass beach album, but it seems like “the CIA,” their new single out today, could be more than a one-off. Something about the way their record label shared it and the video teasers the band has been posting suggests that — after years of covers and loosies — we’re back in album mode.
As for the song itself, “the CIA” feels less hyper-online than past Glass Beach releases, almost alt-rock-radio-ready. But the band achieved that sound without compromising their proggy, exploratory tendencies. Within the track’s shadowy but upbeat sound world, J McClendon sings about being terrified, exposed, and under surveillance.

Car Seat Headrest – We Looked Like Giants
It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Car Seat Headrest, but the indie rock project of Will Toledo is back with a cover of Death Cab for Cutie’s “We Looked Like Giants.”
“We Looked Like Giants” originally appeared on Death Cab’s 2003 album Transatlanticism, and the cover arrives in celebration of that record’s 20th anniversary. The split single also contains a cover of The Beths and Pickle Darling teaming up to tribute another 20th anniversary of a Ben Gibbard classic: “Brand New Colony,” from The Postal Service’s sole studio album Give Up.
Toledo’s rendition of “We Looked Like Giants” stays pretty faithful to its original, albeit with a more post-punk inspired slant. Meanwhile, The Beths and Pickle Darling give “Brand New Colony” a rootsy twang with a healthy dose of banjo plucking.

Emma Anderson – The Presence
Emma Anderson, the co-founder of shoegaze icons Lush, is releasing her debut solo album, Pearlies, on October 20 via Sonic Cathedral. Now she has shared the album’s third single, “The Presence,” via a lyric video.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Anderson had this to say about the song: “It’s one of the album’s catchiest moments and also the one that possibly/probably sounds most like my previous bands thanks to the layers of guitars.”
James Chapman (aka Mute Records artist Maps) produced Pearlies.
Some of the songs for Pearlies were actually written for a Lush reunion album that wasn’t meant to be. Lush reformed in 2015 for some touring and released a new EP, Blind Spot, in 2016. But the reunion came to a somewhat abrupt end that year, with plans for a new album or any more touring scrapped.
“I thought we were in it for the long term, so some of these songs—or even just parts of them—were actually going to be for Lush,” explained Anderson in a previous press release. “That didn’t happen, so I had these songs and bits of music that I didn’t know what to do with.”
