Welcome to the Know the Difference Minute for Tuesday, September 27th.
Harley-Davidson’s Livewire became a separate division in 2019. As of today, it trades as a complete spin-off under the ticker LVWR.
Livewire was HD’s entry into the electric motorcycle market—created when large bikes seemed to be losing their luster. That, and younger buyers were heading toward smaller, more nimble bikes instead of moving to Hogs.
This deal dates back to December 2021 when a Special Purpose Acquisition Company or SPAC was announced to explore the next step for the brand. Harley isn’t out of the electric game entirely; they still own 74% of Livewire and will be investing $100 million into the deal.
Livewire’s goal is to hit sales over 100,000 units by 2026. It sold 461 last year and projects to sell 957 this year.
