Today... a flotilla bound for Gaza is intercepted at sea. Oil prices spike on word of new strikes against Iran. And the Supreme Court rewrites the map of American representation.
Headlines... Heartbeat... Hope. Let's get into it.
[TRANSITION]
We start in the Mediterranean.
Activists sailing dozens of boats toward Gaza say Israeli forces intercepted them overnight near the Greek island of Crete. The crews were detained. The cargo was humanitarian aid — food, medicine, baby formula — meant to break Israel's blockade.
This is the latest chapter in a story that has been grinding on for years. A blockade Israel says is necessary to stop Hamas from rearming. A population in Gaza that, by every credible measure, is starving. And a flotilla of activists sailing into the gap.
Christians disagree about this conflict. They have for a long time. Some hear "Israel" and reach for prophecy. Others hear "Gaza" and reach for justice. Both responses can be sincere. Both can also be lazy.
Here's what Scripture does not let us off the hook for.
In Proverbs 31:8, the words are blunt. "Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute." Not Israeli destitute. Not Palestinian destitute. The destitute.
You can hold a careful position on Israeli security and still grieve a hungry child. You can support a nation's right to defend itself and still ask hard questions about what's happening to civilians caught in the middle. Those things are not in tension in the Christian moral imagination. They are required to sit together.
Pray for the hostages still held in Gaza. Pray for the families in Gaza burying their children. Pray for the activists detained at sea. And pray for wisdom for leaders who will answer to God for every decision made.

Story two. Oil markets.
Crude prices hit their highest level since twenty twenty-two yesterday. The reason — a report from Axios that US Central Command has drawn up plans for what they're calling "short and powerful" strikes on Iran. The President is reportedly being briefed on new options this week.
The market reacted instantly. Jet fuel jumped. Gas futures climbed. And we'll come back to a downstream effect of this in a few minutes that you might not have considered.
Here's the bigger picture. The world is jittery. Has been for years. Every headline about Iran, about Russia, about China, about North Korea sends tremors through commodities, through markets, through American kitchen-table budgets.
I want to read you something old. Psalm 46.
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea."
That psalm was written by people whose world was a lot less stable than ours. No insurance. No reserves. One bad harvest from ruin. And they sang... we will not fear.
Not because the threats weren't real. But because their refuge wasn't a market, or a military, or a treaty. It was God Himself.
Pay attention to the news. Don't let it pastor you.

Story three. The Supreme Court.
In a ruling handed down this week, the Court significantly weakened protections in the Voting Rights Act against racial discrimination in redistricting. NPR is reporting this opens the door to what could be the largest single drop in Black representation in Congress in American history.
This is going to be litigated for years. It will be celebrated by some and mourned by others, and I'm not here to tell you how to vote. I am here to tell you what the Bible says about representation and justice.
Proverbs 29:2. "When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan."
Scripture cares deeply about who has a seat at the table. About whether the powerless have a voice. About whether the law is administered evenly — Leviticus 19:15 forbids partiality toward the poor and toward the great.
Here's what I keep coming back to. The Christian impulse, regardless of which way you lean politically, should be to ask whether the most vulnerable are being heard. That's not a partisan question. That's a biblical one.
If your representative changes — federal, state, or local — your job stays the same. Pray for them. First Timothy 2 commands it. And hold them accountable to do justice.

Now your quick briefs.
The Supreme Court also signaled this week that it appears ready to side with the Trump administration in ending Temporary Protected Status for Haitian and Syrian migrants. This affects hundreds of thousands of people who have built lives here legally for over a decade. Christians can disagree on immigration policy. Christians cannot disagree about the dignity of every person made in God's image. Genesis 1:27 doesn't have a visa requirement.
Remember that Iran story? Here's the downstream piece. Jet fuel prices have nearly doubled. That means firefighting aircraft this summer — the planes that drop retardant on wildfires across the western United States — will cost tens of millions more to operate. War in the Middle East. Forests in California. Everything is connected. Ecclesiastes 1 was right.
A father and daughter in New Jersey pleaded guilty this week to running a years-long counterfeit art scheme — fake Warhols, fake Banksys, sold to galleries and auction houses for serious money. I have to admit, there's something almost cosmically funny about forging a Banksy. The man whose entire career is about questioning what's authentic. Proverbs 11:1 says the Lord detests dishonest scales. Apparently, that includes spray paint.
And from Christianity Today this week, Russell Moore wrote a thoughtful piece on how to make a major life decision. His advice... slow down, seek counsel, examine your motives, and remember that God is more committed to your sanctification than to your strategic plan. Worth your time if you're standing at a crossroads.
