Helping young Christian professionals grow in their work, leadership, and faith
Hey everyone, welcome to the NextGen
Kingdom Leaders podcast where we help
young Christian professionals grow
in their work, leadership, and faith.
Today we're talking about excellence.
We're talking about excellence
that worships and not performs.
Enjoy
We all want to do excellent work.
You want to be the person
your team can count on.
You want to produce great work, earn
promotions, build something meaningful,
and maximize the gifts God has given you.
And that's a good desire.
But here's the question.
Why are you pursuing excellence?
Because there's a subtle difference
between excellence that worships
and excellence that performs.
Performance says, if I do
enough, I'll finally be enough.
Worship says, because I'm already loved
by God, I want to give him my very best.
The work might look identical on
the outside, the late nights, the
preparation, the attention to detail, the
commitment to growth, but the motivation
underneath couldn't be more different.
One is fueled by insecurity.
The other is fueled by gratitude.
One constantly asks, what
will people think of me?
The other asks, how can I honor
God with what he's entrusted to me?
As young professionals, it's
easy to confuse the applause of
people with the approval of God.
We refresh LinkedIn
hoping somebody notices.
We compare salaries, promotions, titles.
We quietly believe our worth rises
and falls with our performance review.
But the gospel frees
us from that treadmill.
In Christ, your identity was
settled long before your career
began, which means excellence is
no longer about proving yourself.
It's about stewarding what
God has already given you.
So write the best proposal.
Lead the meeting well.
Serve your clients with integrity.
Build the business.
Study hard.
Be excellent.
But not because you're
trying to earn God's love.
Not because you're desperate for
someone else's applause or approval.
But because every spreadsheet, every
presentation, every conversation,
every decision can become an act of
worship when it's offered back to God.
So today, before you start your
work, ask one simple question.
God, how can I worship
you through my work today?
You might discover that the holiest thing
you do isn't during church on Sunday.
It may be the way you
faithfully show up on Monday.
