# The Kind of Prophet We’re Dealing With
One starry evening in 1970, **Dallin H. Oaks** was returning to his car, where his wife, June, awaited him.
As he approached the vehicle, a thief emerged from the darkness, brandishing a weapon and pointing it at Elder Oaks's chest.
The assailant demanded money. Elder Oaks complied, handing over his wallet—only for the thief to discover it was empty.
Frustrated by the fruitless exchange, the thief then demanded the car keys.
Concerned for his wife's safety, Elder Oaks refused.
The thief grew increasingly agitated, his desperation mounting with every passing moment.
As the man raved, Elder Oaks saw an opportunity to seize the weapon.
Before he could act, however, a spiritual impression came with remarkable clarity. He knew that if he attempted to take the weapon, he would overpower the young man—and that the struggle would likely end in the young man's death.
So Elder Oaks remained calm and resolute.
The criminal, realizing that Elder Oaks would not be intimidated, lost his nerve and fled into the night.
That evening, Elder Oaks's decision preserved three lives.
Even amid chaos and fear, in the darkness of night, he could still hear the promptings of the Spirit.
Even when he had everything to lose, he chose peace.
And even when faced with the possibility of losing both his life and his wife's, he trusted in the Lord.
That is the kind of prophet we are receiving as President Dallin H. Oaks is called to lead the Church.
And with the same hand I use to partake of the emblems of Jesus Christ, I will sustain President Oaks as President of the Church.
