hi everyone Ryan here host of the worst of the best podcast thanks for
0:08
downloading and I hope you'll still give us a listen it's not often that we talk about True Crime but this episode we are
0:16
doing that so there are going to be some topics that we discussed today that involve horrific events that happen to
0:25
some individuals and we don't go into great detail but we want to make it
0:30
clear that we do describe some of the results of the crimes that happened to these people and if such content is
0:38
something that would be upsetting to you feel free to not listen or skip such
0:43
Parts as they come about it's not every single topic but they do come up so this
0:49
is not necessarily not safe for work it's just a darker subject today other
0:55
than that happy Halloween everyone be safe and let's take a listen to today's
1:02
episode welcome to the worst of the best podcast you wanted the best well they
1:10
didn't freaking make it so here's what you get from Canada and Texas Ryan and
1:16
Bob [Applause]
1:29
[Applause]
1:37
I'm ready okay yeah I know you're ready all right welcome to the worst of the
1:42
best podcast I your host Ryan and with me is Bob from the no redeeming quality
1:52
podcast yeah hey you know what this is the first time that you've been on my show right that is right at least this
1:58
show wait did we go on the rocky podcast show you've been on twice on that one
2:04
what I haven't have I I well I know you've been on at least once if not I think you just came on our show no I'm
2:11
90% sure you guys came on mine at least zip has but I think you ran out of Rocky
2:16
[ __ ] for me to wait are you swearing on this show don't worry about it I will edit accordingly I just just just I'll
2:24
keep it to a minimum I'll try and keep it to a zero
2:29
and then we'll do my best anyway so I think you ran out of Rocky before I
2:36
could come on to that one we're on the Creed franchise now on that one oh God I
2:41
was not a fan anyway no you don't have to be we're torn about the Creed franchise we are there's good things
2:46
about all the good stuff in the Creed films happens to be when Stallone's on screen yes it is oh I said at least
2:53
Michael B Jordan's still alive he's still alive yeah for sure well Stallone's still alive too yeah
3:00
zip might jump in mid recording if he does great if not Bob and I are prepared
3:06
to pick up the slack which is you know regarding zip that's pretty common we we often have to pick up his slack don't
3:11
you think yeah we keep up the energy that's how it goes well I'm excited to
3:16
riff with you all the same and this will be a I guess this is part of the gamber Gator
3:22
Halloween do Halloween in Canada yeah we absolutely I don't know we get told it's
3:30
only American all the time when it goes to the other commonwealth countries so I
3:35
think it's even in some places in Europe and like England I think does Halloween and stuff like that uh but definitely
3:40
Canada it's uh very well celebrated up here in fact we do like fireworks and firecrackers on Halloween what I'm Jelly
3:47
I want some of that yeah it's amazing it's toned down a little bit over the years but when I was a teenager we would
3:55
have like the Roman Candle Wars and firecracker Wars and get chased by the cops fireworks for us are like the same
4:01
thing for handguns for you guys how cold is it on Halloween up
4:06
there well it depends how North you are of course any City along the border it's
4:11
normal fall weather it's chilly very rarely is it snowing but it just again it depends how far north you are not for
4:18
the majority of the population it's just chilly and cold this is good cada talk for everybody hey why not hey that's
4:24
okay we're an international podcast you know as stated in my intro the lers
4:30
heard that you are from Texas and and funny enough we are going to talk about
4:36
Texas today were there any of these stories or accounts that you anything that you were familiar with so I did
4:43
know about the Amber Alert system at least a little bit and I knew about when to goes in general what's good because
4:53
today's list is the top 10 lesser known Texas terrors it's good you didn't know
5:00
them all or else that would kind of defeat the purpose of the list oh oh crap I did know about the railroad
5:06
killer I remember when that was happening okay don't say anymore don't say anymore because I I don't want to spoil it okay okay so what we're going
5:13
to do I would suspect I didn't know any of these and that's probably partially due to my geographical location I didn't
5:19
know any of these but it's not surprising that you might have heard of some of these having been and having you
5:25
are now a resident in Texas have you been in Texas your whole life oh ra baby
5:30
in the Houston area yep htown all the way Texas as you know is a big state but
5:35
I always thought it was the biggest but I guess Alaska takes out Alaska's the biggest now okay now what is a Texas
5:42
German Germans were a huge population of immigrants whenever they moved here and
5:47
there are still parts of the state like in Central Texas where Austin is located
5:53
it's directly in the middle of the state outside of the city when you get into like the rural parts there is still
5:59
small towns where people speak German and they'll hold church services in German and things like that okay
6:07
interesting and what is Texas German do they actually mix some German with Texas or English it's a thing uh that's a big
6:14
beer culture and like we still have beer gardens and things like that oh cool well cool well that's kind of the
6:20
lighter side of Texas but unfortunately there is a dark side to Texas you
6:26
probably know this and I'm sure listeners know this but Texas is huge it's uh got a rich history and because
6:33
of that there's a lot of tales of uh ghosts and Ghouls and some of our Tales today might involve some ghosts and some
6:40
of them are real life people that are I would say scarier than ghost this list
6:46
will combine the real with the Supernatural and we're going to discuss those now what made you bring up Texas
6:53
Germans I was just curious in in my research about Texas they were they were talking about there was thousands of
6:59
German I wanted to hear your take on it that's all just okay yeah wondering okay
7:04
cool yeah yeah yeah that's a thing well I mean there's pockets of other cultures everywhere in Canada too and and in the
7:10
US but I'm just curious how the Germans ended up in Texas that's all yeah that's a big population that's where um Texas
7:16
Del barbecue comes from it's the the Czech immigrant populations that's where that all okay there you go all right the
7:23
German's like hey we want to go where uh being white is uh the way to be is there
7:30
exactly there's a whole lot of whole lot of room geez all right so here we go
7:36
number 10 Deep in southern Texas between the city of San Antonio and the Gulf Coast lies a town called Yorktown have
7:43
you heard of this town no and that's a whole lot of area for them to to say
7:48
yeah sure I don't know the area Yorktown had a hospital there that was built in
7:54
the late 1800s and it closed down just the 1986 but it opened after 86 to 92
8:02
strictly as a drug rehabilitation facility and it catered to patients seeking recovery from drugs and alcohol
8:10
but it seems that the time though as you can imagine people that went there were sick maybe you could say they were U
8:16
angry mental health issues whatever and during that time many people died there specifically between 1950 in 1980 2,000
8:24
patients died there good Lord yeah that's common for hospitals and speaking of so we're talking about a haunting
8:31
here at the Yorktown hospital so this is the Yorktown Memorial hospital I would say if you're into investigating
8:37
hauntings and if that is something that you enjoy uh looking into abandoned
8:42
hospitals are probably pretty common hot spots for hauntings just because of the
8:47
the energy if you just want to talk about energy there's a lot of sadness sickness pain death so if there ever was
8:54
and I would say jails would probably be number two for that kind of Haunting one of Houston's most famous
9:00
ones is the Old Jefferson Davis Hospital there you go yeah to this day the uh
9:06
it's owned by private privately owned now and it's now open to the public for people to go and experience the strange
9:13
lights inexplicable sounds they people hear footsteps and toys start talking
9:19
and all this stuff and I've actually went on YouTube today to see if anyone has recorded anything of course people have it's legit a really at the very
9:28
least it is they did not do anything to upkeep it whoever bought that this place literally said we're going to buy it and
9:33
we're not going to do anything to it and it's gross it looks terrible it's there's
9:40
like some interesting photos and stuff uh people look what's your feelings on haunting do you think they're
9:45
real oh man oh psychic energy strange
9:51
you can really manifest a whole lot of stuff whenever you start believing in things you can really put a lot lot of
10:00
emphasis into just the void my man really depends yeah I I I sometimes
10:06
wonder about the to I wonder how much of it is US projecting our own fears they did film stuff there was if you're to
10:12
believe the photos that I saw on YouTube some of the photos and film footage was pretty pretty convincing I've seen some
10:19
stuff on the internet seems pretty convincing so am I being lied to maybe but at the same time yeah I wonder how
10:24
much of our own personal energy goes out there cuz you have people like I don't believe in that stuff I don't believe it's it's all hogwash and then of course
10:31
they'll never have anything happen to them because they just don't believe it yeah I also do know that there's weird like physical explanations for things
10:37
like there's certain sound frequencies that are like the resonance frequency for your eyeballs that actually make you
10:43
see gray things on like the fringes of your eyesight because it's the resonance frequency for your eyes also causes
10:50
extreme paranoia or just fear and anxiety because it's this strange sensation that your brain isn't used to
10:57
being able to handle cuz it's your eyeballs things like that so yeah it's up to
11:03
interpretation would you ever visit a a place like this pay money if if you had the money would you stay overnight in a
11:09
place like this oh man overnight dep like an abandoned hospital with with
11:15
with a group of let's see it's it's you and zip an abandoned hospital
11:22
no like haunted hotels sure definitely I would totally do that today i' go on
11:28
hallow I'd take a date to a haunted hotel but like a dirty ass like abandoned hospital
11:36
that's all groy and slimy and full of horrendous things absolutely not I'm not
11:42
gonna pay money to go do that well this is a popular hotspot I did read some Google reviews and people if like again
11:48
if you believe the reviews people have seen things they've seen uh musical sounds in the hallways they seen shadow
11:54
figures with red eyes uh talking dolls yeah it's not for me that one that's
12:00
what you said that made me say I've seen that already going around the talking toys is what said like absolutely not I
12:09
would not be able to handle that oh if I saw that in reality I would immediately
12:15
be out the door there you go all right let's move to number nine the Yorktown
12:21
windigo okay okay in Yorktown same small little town according to eyewitnesses
12:28
people of posted their experiences online Yorktown is possibly home to a
12:35
wind too now Ryan do you know what a wind too is I don't I'm looking at the
12:43
the artist rendition here I I would think it was like a dog but I guess it's not okay actually artist preditions of
12:50
wind ghost can be freaking horrifying oh like dude some wind to go drawings and
12:57
there's uh models and things they're terrif I do not like them they freak me out but a wind too is supposedly there's
13:05
a lot of Native American Renditions what do they call Native Americans in Canada
13:10
like First Peoples Aboriginal or First Nations yeah First Nations okay yeah
13:15
yeah and there's a lot of folklore around windigo okay and a lot of what
13:20
their interpretations was they were people that resorted to cannibalism and
13:26
that's what happens when you resort to cannibalism is you become a wendigo like you know how a lot of
13:32
religious practices were to prevent you from doing doing something like they say
13:37
how a lot of Orthodox Jewish practices of kosher were Health practices like
13:42
shellfish and things at the time and blah blah blah and pork and stuff like that it was like yeah don't be cannibals
13:49
because you become a windigo things like that oh wow yeah I think there's an xfiles episode on this oh probably but
13:57
they're gigantic like Walker things they're horrific and they're super pale
14:03
skin and giant teeth and really long spindly appendages and stuff like that
14:09
they're murderous and they can possibly turn other people into windigos and stuff like that but apparently outside
14:17
of Yorktown Texas people have come into contact with the windigo boy Yorktown
14:24
that's a bad place I've never heard of this Yorktown place and I need to look it up and
14:30
possibly go out there but there's a whole Reddit page dedicated to the windo and if you want to look it up you can go
14:35
to the Yorktown windo page and see what people have to say but apparently it's bald and has black eyes and you can see
14:42
it on Misty Nights outside of Yorktown so oh that's
14:47
crazy G yeah so for our listeners I forgot to say that's okay so what we're going to be doing here I haven't really
14:53
figured out the criteria for this cuz this is the worst of the best so this is kind of a best of lesser known Texas
14:59
Terrors so that's what makes them the best they're they're not a good thing but it's the best of the Lesser known
15:04
Texas Terrors so we have to decide now don't say it now of course but at the end at the end of our list because I
15:10
haven't made my pick yet we can figure out how we want to do like what is the worst thing you would want to face be a
15:16
part of or you know what I mean or what you just think is the worst evil whatever you want well I'll make it whatever you want at the end uh yeah so
15:24
it's kind of like if you had to come face to face with whatever this thing is whatever it is out of the list maybe
15:30
that would count like what is the one thing you would want to face the least okay I got you I'm I'm down okay I'm
15:37
picking up what you're putting down all right good all right number eight the goat man of Lake Worth have you ever
15:43
heard of Lake Worth I have heard of a goat man so uh
15:49
Lakeworth I do know Lakeworth okay yeah sure okay so you've heard of a goat man I've heard a goat boy from Saturday
15:55
Night Live that's what I'm thinking of okay yeah by Jim Brewer yeah there we go
16:02
that's what I was thinking all right so it all started in July 1969 across from Greer Island on the north side of
16:08
Texas's lak worth a crowd of startled Spectators saw a creature that was neither a goat nor a man in fact as they
16:14
claimed the creature was a fishy Goatman one member of the crowd had
16:20
enough of their wits left to snap a photo of the monster and they captured a furry hazy and large white thing sing
16:28
tall among s weed do you see it oh yeah uh that is a man
16:34
wearing a [Laughter]
16:41
carpet are you sure it's not a fishy Goatman what about the goat man is fishy
16:47
is what I want to know are they saying it smells fishy or I don't know maybe
16:53
because it was near the water that's my only guess later known simply as the lake Goatman this strange crypted is not
17:02
America's only half goat monstrosity but it may well be its most documented after
17:07
first appearing in an article in the Star Telegram newspaper the Goatman quickly be became a local celebrity with
17:13
area residents invested in traps and bullets sounds like Texas in order to in
17:19
order to capture or kill the creature Goatman Hunters are so numerous that the website for the tarant County Historical
17:25
Journal felt it necessary to post a warning about going after G Island's most famous resident why is the first
17:32
instinct to kill the thing I don't catch the goat man well they did
17:40
have traps I guess there was some who had traps and some who had bullets I think so whatever whatever TR it so they
17:46
could kill it that's funny so while it was written
17:51
off as a hoax the Goatman which eyewitnesses claimed jumped on parked cars and grabbed at least one female on
17:57
the night of July 9th 1969
18:03
hell yeah goat man get it he was the center of several police
18:09
reports for at least 2 months similarly one of the cars attacked by the monster was found to have an 18in gash on the
18:16
side of its doors so local police investigated but came up empty several decades later in 2005 a reporter for the
18:24
Star Telegram again received a letter lacking a name and forwarding address but the baz star letter offered a
18:29
confession the writer said that they were once a student at Northside High School and on July 9th 1969 they went
18:37
out to Lake Worth wearing a mask they did it just to scare their classmates the letter has never been verified but
18:43
it's more than likely true that the goat man was some dumb teenager in a first suit or carpet like you're saying but on
18:50
the off chance of a halfman half goat R's Lake Worth it would be a good idea to visit the location with a camera and
18:56
a well oiled hunting rifle I now that we've gotten through that
19:02
after you got to that part I do remember this story only because I do remember
19:08
them sending in the letter but as we were getting to that I was just like wait a second in Broad day earlier at
19:16
some point the goat man jumps on a car in front of people and grabs a woman
19:22
like it tries to run off and people were just like oh no what a mystery and like
19:28
just let the goat man get away maybe they should have changed his name after grabbing the woman it should have been
19:34
the grope
19:40
man oh God that kid is lucky he didn't get
19:46
murdered by like did he know that everybody was going out to shoot him
19:51
well sounds like it was just one night of groping and
19:57
goating that just turned to a whole like let's get this guy but he never showed up
20:04
again I hope that suit was easy to put together I mean it looks like it looks like he just put together a shag carpet
20:11
I love it no man Goatman he's my favorite
20:16
definitely not the worst he so far he's the best Goatman he should be a character on a comic book or something
20:22
yeah I'd hang out with the goat man all right I've got the next one number seven rumors of the devil okay wa year were
20:28
you born again 89 okay you don't remember this I was born in 75 so I do
20:34
recall the 80s being much like what we're about to read here cuz I was 15 when 1990 hit so I was definitely of age
20:40
to remember kind of the scare uh but kind of the paranoia behind sat yeah
20:47
yeah so yeah the 1980s were the decade of Reaganomics Margaret Thatcher popular access cocaine and heavy metal which I
20:54
would totally participate in and still do heavy metal and hard rock the 1980s were also the age of the satanic Panic a
21:01
protracted hysteria that blamed everything from MTV to Dungeons and Dragons for the supposed upsurge and
21:07
satanic crimes the good people of Texas were not immune to this virus truth be told one of the most infamous examples
21:13
of the satanic Panic occurred in the small town of childis between 1988 and 91 so this is what happened one evening
21:21
terrible Discovery was made Tate Roland a local teenager was found hanging from a tree now the sheriff's department
21:27
interviewed everyone in the role in family and to and to a person they said that Tate was not suicidal however the
21:33
one eyewitness in the case contradicted this saying that he saw Tate hang himself and that's about where things
21:39
stood until May of 91 when so basically the the contradiction is that somebody said that yeah I saw him hang himself
21:46
which is odd that his buddy was just like or his eyewitness is like yeah I saw a guy hang
21:52
himself but the family was like I we never saw any mental health issues so understandable but all the same was
21:58
ruled as suicide that's about where things stood until May of 91 when 27-year-old Terry Trosper Tate's older
22:05
sister was also found dead in her bed so two deaths anywhere is alarming in a family but when it happens town of just
22:12
5,800 people it might be more than a coincidence despite family surgeons to the contrary investigators learned that
22:19
Tate's death was a suicide caused by a recent breakup with his girlfriend as for Terry an autopsy found that she had
22:25
died after choking on her own vomit and Terry's Blood also showed a high levels of the drug elville which is most often
22:33
used to treat anxiety and major depressive disorder so these official findings were not made public in time to
22:39
stop a panic however so the rumor mill a chis went to work even before Tate
22:44
Rolland was buried reports flood into the police saying that strange and unknown people attended Tate's funeral
22:50
including one young male who chanted the word suicide suicide throughout the
22:57
service this rumor ran in conjunction with several police reports filed in November of 1988 which claimed that a
23:03
truck carrying unidentified persons was seen trying to pick up children from local schools some even said that Tate
23:10
himself was a member of a satanic cult yeah there were even reports of people in Black robes hanging in out in
23:16
abandoned buildings and one report went so far as to say a local teenager was
23:21
seen eating the
23:27
Bible yeah yeah that's what they do oh my goodness okay so things took a
23:32
strange turn when Darwin wils a friend of Terry's tried to commit suicide by swalling between 25 and 30 tablets of
23:39
alil his suicide note read I know something the cops don't know I know who
23:44
kill Terry I can't live anymore so a new autopsy on Tate Roland's body discovered
23:50
that he too had taken alil before his death even more shocking were the findings of the second autopsy on Terry
23:56
which found that she had contusions on her inner thighs and in her mouth which is really bad that they found this on
24:02
the second autopsy this is something you think you would automatically look for if you may have seen too many crime shows but the first thing you look for
24:08
especially on female victims or any victim really is you're looking for sexual assault these wounds did indicate that
24:14
she' been sexually assaulted by at least two men prior to her death so now this adds up a little bit but you could also
24:20
argue that you had yeah she still could have committed suicide because of the sexual assault yep yeah yeah so in the
24:26
wake of these findings the Texas r just put out a pamphlet outlining what to look for in ritual murder cases although
24:32
Tate Rollins is still considered a suicide and even though no murder charges were ever brought in the case of Terry Trosper many people in that town
24:39
think that dark Forces were at play back in those
24:44
days pretty weird we have so many little towns out here that have their own weird
24:51
little stories but how they think they're satanic Cults that used to be around back there and there's all sorts
24:58
of abandoned little house is that there's little Satanist in there and you can see him at night there's Athens
25:04
Texas which uh they still say they're Satanist out there it's embarrassing a
25:10
little bit but no that's bizarre I would argue and correct me if I'm wrong I'm not
25:16
shaming religious people here but I'm just saying I think Texas is kind of known for its religious
25:24
Vigor oh you kidding me I'm trying to be polite
25:30
yeah it's Bible Belt country around here so I wonder if there's a connection between blaming all this craziness just
25:37
on yeah know some people are just have mental health issues oh no yeah uh this
25:42
was at a time during the 80s when people still were refus to acknowledge depression and suicide and anxiety
25:48
especially in young men I'm going to assume like weird that the boy was found
25:57
with the Lille overdose I would think maybe the girls raped and murdered and
26:04
they made it look like a suicide I don't know oh interesting too bad rest in
26:10
peace to those poor families all the same geez all right you want to talk about the Amber Alert System yeah I I
26:17
had no idea there was any any connection to Texas have that Canada no we have it but I didn't realize there's con a Texas
26:23
connection yeah is that what it's called yeah yeah we call it that here do y have the Silver Alert not if we do I don't I
26:31
I don't know I haven't heard of it a silver alert is for an elderly person
26:36
Silver Fox kind of yeah exactly actually like an elderly person who may or may not
26:42
have control of their mental faculties who like has driven away from their home
26:47
yes just missing that's what it's called the Amber Alert system was born out of
26:53
God I don't even know how to approach this Ryan because it's such a just a sad story it's not even a terror story why
27:00
is this on the list Ryan I don't know I know it's it sucks but you didn't
27:06
generate the list having not read what you're about to read I'm assuming something happened to a poor child and
27:12
oh no you haven't read it have you no oh no I'm so sorry now you now you have to
27:18
hear do we have to do we have to give a uh well we can edit it a little bit if we don't want to be too on the news it's
27:25
not graphic or anything just want to give well I don't I don't like to I'm
27:30
not trying to be glib here but if there's anyone that has a trigger warning about uh violence to Children
27:36
you might want to skip this segment okay yeah it's very very unfortunate Amber Alert system came about was in
27:44
1996 9-year-old Amber Hagerman of Arlington Texas Arlington is a town in
27:51
between Dallas and Fort Worth she was playing or riding her bike in the parking lot of an abandoned grocery
27:57
store when a man in a black pickup truck grabbed her and threw her in the cab of
28:05
her of his truck an eyewitness who saw her get tossed into his truck called the
28:11
police and then they began searching for with 50 other officers and
28:18
unfortunately they were never able to find her and like after 5
28:23
days somebody found her corpse in a creek four miles away
28:29
and her killer had cut her throat in half and she was naked and bruised and
28:36
they did find out that she had been sexually assaulted now that I again yeah
28:43
after that in 1997 they created the Dallas Amber plan
28:48
and that would later become the Amber Alert system in 2000 but to this day we
28:56
still do not know who Amber hagerman's killer is and it is arguably Texas's
29:01
biggest Cold Case I did not know that the Amber Alert system was not created
29:07
until 2000 yeah I thought I thought it was early is this a is this a Mandela
29:15
effect yeah I swear to God my mom told me about this when I was a kid yeah do
29:20
you remember it from when he were younger it says here who was the Amber lert named after Amber lert was named after 9-year-old Amber who adducted
29:28
killed in Texas okay so is this a Mandela effect I swear the
29:33
Amber Alert was around when I was a kid I was born in 75 okay it was 96 when she died mhm yeah
29:41
Canada system began in 2002 what yeah man yeah we do have an in
29:48
Canada but I okay I don't know so listeners let us know out of this uh very terrible story kind of an
29:54
interesting development is this a Mandela effect cuz we have two people think yeah man that's weird I swear it was
30:02
before 2002 after this I was thinking like so you grew up like sentient
30:07
through the 80s I was born in ' 89 were you around when they were actually
30:12
photos of kids on milk cartons wait no y'all had bags in Canada no some parts
30:18
do uh here here in Quebec we do uh there's milk bags um where I'm from
30:23
British Columbia originally yeah there's a just your normal mil cartons maybe our
30:28
brains are retroactively calling what we remember other but no but that doesn't make I anyways that's weird I thought I
30:35
was older did they have pictures of kids on milk cartons though when you were growing up like in the 80s no I not that
30:41
I remember maybe the post office or but we just didn't have that many missing kids I don't remember them happy I was
30:49
wondering if that was just like a thing from the movies or not bless uh amber and her family but out of that tragedy
30:56
you know it's helped find other children so I guess we move on to the eyeball
31:01
killer now a much Li not yeah yeah it's a move on the eyeball Killers check him
31:07
out you get the eyeball killer you get okay yeah I'll take all the light
31:14
ones okay so beginning in late 1990 prostitutes in Dallas began dying
31:22
at an alarming rate oh God okay so yeah
31:28
happens beginning in late 1990 prostitutes in Dallas began dying in an
31:34
alarming rate it was obvious that someone was doing the killing and that someone was a seriously sick individual
31:41
the killer signed all of his handiwork with his gruesome calling card the removal of victim's eyes a man later
31:48
known as the eyeball killer was born Charles Frederick Albright in Amarillo
31:54
Texas in the depression year of 1933 man he was born in 33 and he started
32:00
doing this in 1990 Jesus he was an old man yeah yeah okay yeah that's not that bad
32:08
not that bad for a serial killer um a late bloomer a late
32:14
bloomer adopted by the Albright family a few weeks after his birth young Charles
32:19
grew up in a comfortable middle class life but underneath the surface there was trouble bre Dell Albright Charles's
32:25
mother believed in harsh discipline when Charles were misbehaved Dell would tie him to the bed there were also times
32:33
when Dell got pleasure out of making Charles wear girls clothing this is literally like serial killer soup here
32:39
like this is how Works uh how can I make my child turn into a
32:45
killer happen oh my goodness this is terrible continue oh my God then she
32:51
enrolls in age 11 she enrolls him in a taxidermic class this can't be real
32:59
theer so Charles took to Taxidermy like a natural no kidding and before long he
33:06
was skinning and stuffing dead birds the only problem was that Dell would not pay
33:11
for fake eyes for the dead animals so Charles was told to use buttons Instead
33:17
This sounds like a Neil Gaiman novel like something out of Hellraiser Charles was an intelligent boy but prone to
33:23
Mischief at age 15 in 1948 he contracted crabs after sleeping with the local
33:31
prostitute a year later he stole $380 from a cash register
33:39
two years later Charles was sent to jail for the first time after he was convicted of theft and receiving stolen
33:45
property Charles would be in and out of trouble for the rest of his life in 51 he broke into the Arkansas state
33:51
Teachers College and stole nude pictures from a female dormatory oh man yeah he
33:57
could only imagine the the cell phones of 2020 are these artistic nudes that he
34:05
got from the dorm or these like girls it's from the female dormatory I guess he just figured or knew that girls had
34:11
to do photos of themselves in their drawers in their personal cubicles or something weird
34:17
1951 how did he know who the risque girls in the were he must have got some
34:22
Intel yeah on one of these pictures Charles
34:29
glued the eyes that he had cut out of a picture of a friend's ex-girlfriend
34:34
yep that was a nice Grumble it's crazy Charles continued to steal got
34:40
married to a woman named Betty Nester in a 1981 was accused of molesting a 9-year-old girl of course four years
34:47
later Charles admitting to molesting the pre-teen daughter of a church friend he received
34:53
probation the first of the eyeball killer murders was discovered on December 13th 1990 the corpse belonged
35:01
to a 33-year-old prostitute Mary Lou Pratt I remember that name oh yeah she
35:06
had been found partially nuded in the field Albright had sexually assaulted Pratt before shooting her execution
35:12
style in the back of the head the autopsy found that Brat's killer had removed her eyeballs with
35:18
surgical skill two months after this homicide 27-year-old prostitute Susan
35:23
Peterson was found dead about a mile away from the Pratt crime scene she to had had her eyeballs removed a third
35:31
prostitute on March 19th 1981 there's some more eyeballs taken out with an
35:36
xacto knife this dude yeah yeah it's okay let's go down the list uh he was
35:46
only convicted of the murder of Shirley Williams today he is still behind bars
35:52
in LEC Texas counting down the endless days of a life sentence W so how old is
35:58
he now I mean he 33 so 1933 was when he was born he's
36:04
near 100 wow man it's always the evil dudes who
36:11
live forever okay yeah had multiple prostitutes and he was just big on the
36:17
exact and knif taken out those eyeballs the interesting part of all this was just how his mother groomed him what
36:23
what was her deal it's always that way if they're just super weird and strict like they're
36:29
just like well the uh The Killing continues here we go with number four
36:35
this is the servant girl Annihilator but we're going to go back in time Austin 1884 to
36:41
1885 I love the name the serving the serving girl Annihilator that sounds
36:48
like a great pornography okay well I was going to call it this would be a great song for
36:55
like a death metal band you know also true the servant girl Annihilator this is our
37:00
new track hit it boys Austin 1884 to 1885 a frightening
37:06
serial killer roam the city no servant girl was safe the first murder came to light on December 30th
37:12
1884 the victim was an African-American cook named Molly Smith now Smith was found in a rare patch of Texas snow I
37:19
guess you know guys don't get a lot of snow there right no so her body showed that she had
37:25
been stabbed in the stomach chest arm arms and legs and she had also been struck in the head with an axe the next
37:32
victim Eliza Shelly was found dead on May 7th 1885 like Smith she was a black cook and also like Smith she had been
37:39
struck in the head with an axe the attacks ramped up after the murder of Eliza Shelly Irene cross was stabbed
37:46
several times with a knife and was almost scalped on May 23rd 11 year-old Mary Ry was raped and stabbed through
37:53
the ear on August 30th to individuals were found bludging to death one report
38:00
likened their heads to jelly on you ever think about how horrible it
38:05
would be to get scalped yeah no K yeah I have well actually yeah I've seen a few
38:12
movies and it's very uncomfortable to to see those scenes so the uh the killer named the annihilator now you know why
38:18
he's called the annihilator right like yeah yeah yeah this is destroying the
38:23
bodies Jo jeez the annihilator was still not done on Christmas Eve 1885 he struck
38:31
twice in one night the victims were 17-year-old Ula Phillips and Susan Hancock these murders broke with the
38:37
earlier pattern for both women cuz for both women were killed in their homes and both were
38:43
white yeah no he's an equal rights killer so that's good oh it's a dude I
38:48
thought it was a lady no I thought it was too it's no it it's a man doing this well we'll get to we're not too sure as
38:54
quickly as the murders came to town he or maybe she vanished but I think the rape of the one is the one that gave it
39:01
away that might be a man that makes sense by the end of 1885 the servant girl Annihilator was no longer
39:07
committing crimes all told he killed eight people seven women and one man he mostly prayed on workingclass black wom
39:13
and his weapons of choice were that of the knife and the axe at the time several suspects have been put forward
39:20
author Shirley Harrison believes that Austin's servant girl Annihilator was none other than London's Jack the Ripper
39:25
that's one of the theories that happens a lot in in a lot of True Crime stuff
39:32
they'll go back to like American serial killers and they'll either say a this was actually Jack the Ripper coming over
39:39
from England and doing this or B this was actually Jack the Ripper and then he
39:45
went to England and there was Jack the Ripper over there like it's so dumb it's
39:51
weird I mean you could argue the timelines maybe line up and because when one was happening the other one wasn't
39:56
who knows or it could just be a copycat or it could just be another sick psycho
40:01
who knows um but one plausible suspect was put forward by Texas monthly the
40:07
paper uh by writer skip holsworth he said he claims that a 19-year-old black worker named Nathan Elgen committed the
40:13
crimes elen worked near most of the crime scenes and in 1886 he was shot and killed by Austin Police while trying to
40:18
attack a woman with a knife H I would assume the crimes ended after that
40:24
killing that makes that's what I would assume yeah yeah like that's when it's done but further reports said that he
40:31
wasn't holding a knife it was a cell [Laughter]
40:39
phone Jesus oh boy yeah this is a fun
40:46
fun are you regretting this one now all right you got the next one you
40:54
got the next two you got the next two I think I've heard of these people actually go ahead yeah number three uh
40:59
and I knew a little bit about this lady but beforehand but uh the angel of
41:05
death angels of death are actually kind of like a type of what people would call a serial killer they're like a different
41:12
one and they are serial killers involved in the medical industry they'd be doctors and nurses that are essentially
41:18
euthanizing their patients against their will murder that would be called
41:23
murdering involuntary euthanasia yeah murder this
41:30
is one of the most notorious of them in American history this would be the Miss
41:38
Janine Jones Miss Janine Jones between 1981 and
41:45
1982 a string of suspicious deaths occurred at the Pediatric Intensive Care
41:50
Unit of at Medical Center Hospital in San Antonio okay so Miss Janine Jones
41:56
she was the adopted daughter of a nightclub owner and a former beautician one thing a lot of serial killers happen
42:04
to be adopted that's because they had a lot of parent issues uhuh she quit her
42:09
job as a nurse at the medical center hospital and Rec relocated to kville Texas kville middle of nowhere West
42:18
Texas just FY is one of the larger towns in the middle of nowhere okay so Jones
42:23
was arrested in charge oh yeah she was I like this yeah read this one Jones's former colleagues described her as an
42:29
intelligent woman but very coarse and prone to making loud and lewd jokes so
42:35
you know she sounds like she was related to you A big brassy
42:45
broad exactly the kind of woman you want dealing with babies
42:51
yeah Jones was arrested and charged with the murder of 15-month-old Chelsea melen
42:57
in October 1983 investigators said that Jones had injected mclen with a toxic amount of a
43:04
muscle reactant called suin coine less than a year later Jones was
43:10
convicted of mlen murder and sentenced to 99 years in prison Texas does not
43:15
take kindly to killing infants also in 1984 Jones was sentenced
43:22
to 60 years for the attempted murder of rando Santos still despite these
43:27
convictions San Antonio citizens felt betrayed after all over 60 toddlers had
43:33
died at the hospital between 1981 and 1982 and most suspected Jones of being
43:41
the culprit during a jailhouse interview in October of 1998 all but admitted to
43:47
killing all of the children saying I really did kill those babies yeah that's
43:53
admitting [Laughter] but in the same recording Jones
44:00
backtracked a little by clarifying that it was the voices in her head that were
44:06
truly responsible for the intentional overdose death she did it but also the
44:12
voices in her head did too so you know figure out who did it Jones is set to
44:18
stand trial once again September 2019 the 69-year-old convicted killer was
44:24
officially accused of murdering Richard bricky Nelson Rosemary Vega Paul vill
44:30
roale Joshua Sawyer and Patrick
44:35
zala yeah shockingly this new trial comes two years after Jones was scheduled to be released from prison as
44:44
part of new Statewide push to lessen prison overcrowding because that's who needs to be let out during the prison
44:51
overcrowding the baby murderer that's so weird man like Texas
44:57
overcrowding imprisons you know you're getting crowded when you're letting out the baby murders no that's not it just can't
45:05
figure it out just let out the nonviolent drug offenders that
45:11
you I'm my brains are gonna pour out of my ears anyway so you know speaking of
45:18
brains yeah oh hey is this one me just so our audience knows we're doing Zips
45:25
as well so he not with us he's supposed to be with us so we're kind of he's dead
45:30
yeah yeah something may have happened to him maybe this nurse got to him yeah
45:36
we're just uh so some of them were a little bit not as familiar with so we're kind of like yeah reading as we go yeah
45:43
so it's fun so we apologize if we seem a little bit less a little bit more than less prepared as per usual but all right
45:49
so here's number two number two 1979 was a boom year for oil in Houston yeah it
45:56
was you wouldn't know about this but Houston pretty much exploded during the 80s 1979
46:04
came around and then Houston blew up our entire Skyline 70% of it came up during
46:11
the 80s like that's where the movie Urban Cowboy came from my dad was in that movie with John Travolta oh was he
46:19
yeah anyway 1979 was a boom year for oil in Houston biggest city in the state
46:25
also fourth biggest City in the nation what what
46:31
Texas yeah we got a lot bigger in the cities the 70s thanks to American migrants who came from all over in order
46:37
to get rich quick in East Texas yeah they came from Detroit my dad wasn't happy about it few of these migrants met
46:44
something other than good luck in Houston in just two months in 1979 five people were murdered by a
46:51
killer who took pleasure in decapitation 40 years later the killer
46:56
remains caught and Houston Cold Case investigators don't have a single fingerprint to help them the first to
47:02
die Elise Elaine Rankin 1979 Bob Smith
47:07
one of Rankin's co-workers showed up at The Orchard Apartments oh yeah I know these murders
47:13
located sorry located in the 5900 block of Glenmont in the gulon neighborhood of
47:18
southwest Houston he was there to give Rank and a ride to work Smith noticing that the 33-year-old Rankin wasn't
47:25
outside to meet him went up to her apartment inside Smith found Ranken in her bed she
47:30
was naked and dead wow you really weren't mening words
47:37
um she was naked and dead
47:45
um oh boy huge disclaimer at the beginning of this
47:53
episode oh please do not listen if anything offends you at
47:59
[Laughter]
48:04
all my mom will not be listening to this episode hey okay then I could just start
48:09
swearing now yeah I guess so yeah cool her killer had tied her feet
48:15
to the bed while he had placed a pillow on her upper body Smith removed the
48:20
pillow and found that branken was missing her head um Jesus Christ homicide detectives
48:27
would later add that Rankin had been sexually assaulted well at least he sexually assaulted her normal body and
48:35
not we hope so wasn't yeah right oh God two weeks after the discovery of
48:41
ranken's corpse another body was found this one belonged to Mary Michael
48:46
Kolkata a new Houston resident originally from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania 25-year-old woman was found dead in her
48:53
bathroom there were differences between the ranking and Kolkata crime scenes namely Kolkata was found fully clothed
48:59
and had her throat slit Kolkata had also fought her killer tooth and nail which was obvious by the fact that kolkata's
49:05
body was riddled with defensive wounds however investigators could not Overlook the fact that kolkata's apartment was
49:11
located only two floors above rankins K had also been sexually assaulted Jesus
49:17
it was in the same apartment complex wow two floors oh God that's crazy how do you
49:24
live in that place anymore you don't they didn't oh Jesus
49:31
Christ oh God amazingly this was not the only weird thing about this case on the
49:38
same day that kata's corpse was found an exterminator found the body of 26-year-old Doris Lynn threadgill inside
49:45
of a townhouse Northwestern Houston threadgill's killer had cut her throat so bad that she had been virtually
49:51
decapitated the next body found belonged to 16-year-old Joan Huffman
49:57
who these are all Houston names oh yeah who was yeah yeah these are so weird who was found dead in sight of Wanga Park I
50:04
literally went on a date with a girl at w Tona par just like a month ago on the same day at a used car lot the body of
50:12
18-year-old Robert oh uh this is a a man that's kind of weird was a spangenberger
50:19
was found inside the trunk of a white Dodge car spangen Burger's head had been removed Houston investigators are not
50:26
uniform in their opinions about these crimes some argue that it was all the work of one madman besides the orchard
50:33
apartment's connection between Rankin and Kolkata Huffman's body was found four miles away from the threadgill
50:39
crime scene eyewitnesses also heard screams and gunshots near threadgill's house in the night before Huffman and
50:45
spangenberger were found other homicide investigators discount the single killer Theory arguing that Ranken and kelut
50:52
were killed by the same person but Huffman and spangenberger were killed by different people some even argue that
50:58
threadgill's murder is unconnected to the other four sure yeah I was wondering about that I was gonna say that actually
51:04
sounds bright because when you go serial killer looking down that hole they usually only kill of one gender and Etc
51:12
and yeah yeah Dam Ryan yeah well we're going to end on a happy note we're going
51:17
to talk about the angel of the railroad uh dude okay I know this guy I
51:25
remember when this was happening and everybody was
51:31
terrified okay let's go so America's rail world are still being used today by
51:37
hundreds if not thousands of vagrants many of these Freight jumpers wind up in
51:43
Texas and one man who used the rails was a Mexican immigrant Angel rendes who
51:49
frequented the rails in Texas and the Midwest in order to find farmw work besides farming Angel worked as a ser
51:56
killer during his reign of terror he killed between 9 and 15 people thus earning him the nickname of the railroad
52:03
killer not very original but very to the point of what he was doing and where he was from Angel began killing sometime in
52:11
' 86 by that point he had illegally crossed into the US on several different occasions and it was after one such
52:16
Crossing that he murdered an unnamed homeless woman Angel shot this woman four times before throwing her body away
52:23
like trash inside of a farmhouse in that same year Angel was arrested in Loro
52:28
Texas and convicted of using a fake us birth certificate he was sentenced to 18 months in jail he was arrested again in
52:36
May of 91 and this time he was deported back to Mexico after being caught trying to forge social security cards and
52:41
illegally purchase weapons and months after this deportation Angel slipped back into Texas and murdered 33-year-old
52:48
Michael White on July 19th 1991 whose body was found full of bullet holes in the front yard of a San Antonio home in
52:55
March 7 Angel Unleashed his blood lust on March 23rd 97 16-year-old Wendy Von
53:02
huin a run away from Illinois was found strangled to death alongside 19-year-old Jesse Howell this crime scene Place
53:07
angel in Florida for the pair were found along a pair of train tracks between Jacksonville and Tampa in 97 July It is
53:15
believed that angel beat a man to death with a pipe in Colton California next on Angel August 29 1997 20-year-old
53:22
Christopher Meyer a student at the University of Kentucky was hit in the head with a 50 lb Rock jeez yeah right
53:29
how did he pick up a okay and I can do it but he was probably the guy was he was probably sleeping I bet he was
53:35
sleeping yeah yeah Meyer died during the attack while his girlfriend was raped
53:41
the pair had yeah the pair had been accosted after taking a shortcut that included walking over some railroad
53:47
tracks subsequent victims included 87-year-old leafy Mason in Hugh Springs
53:52
Texas 81-year-old Fanny Whitner buyers and Carl Georgia 45-year-old Claudia in
53:58
Houston 73-year-old Josephine and fet Texas 26-year-old school teacher Naomi
54:04
in Houston 80-year-old George and his 51-year-old daughter Carolyn in Goram
54:10
Illinois and most of these crimes involved sexual assault even one was one was defiling of a dead body and the
54:17
weapons that he liked to use were axes and pickaxes so after the last of these
54:24
slains in Illinois Angel was placed on the FBI's most wanted list although he managed to escape back to Mexico but his
54:31
family convinced him no you're going back he was turned over to the Texas Rangers and at his trial Angel pleaded
54:37
Not Guilty by reason of insanity stating that he was an angel sent to Earth by God in order to kill the sinful Angel
54:45
did ultimately ask for the death penalty and he got it he died via lethal injection on June 27th 2006 his last
54:53
words were I deserve what I'm getting mm yeah man I remember the railroad
55:00
killer holy crap I remember my mom talking about it it was SC it was weird
55:07
it was the only serial killer I remember happening ACC at a time man was there
55:14
any serial killer you remember happening like going oh man oh yeah you were born at 75
55:22
yeah Bunny and uh who's the other one um Jeffrey dmer yeah and so those are I remember those
55:29
when they were happening and we had one in Vancouver British Columbia I forget his name but he uh buried people in his pig farm and they were eaten by yeah
55:37
robbert Picton yeah yeah yeah yeah you remember the name yeah I thank you I to
55:43
so that was like next door to me in a weird way so that was kind of our local killer yeah oh man Houston had one of
55:50
the worst we had Dean coral a lot of people forget he's where the name of the candy man comes from yeah God I'm the
55:57
real Ro killer that dude is freaky but yeah man so that's Tech this is our special Halloween episode we kind of
56:03
started off a little bit with a little bit of ghouls and goblins we went into the real evil which are humans but
56:09
I but I I just want to say before we make our pick I think one of because this is a Halloween special it's a gam
56:16
Gator Halloween special production I think all the gam Gator uh podcasts are doing Halloween specials so I think to
56:23
celebrate this special Unity we might flip this episode this will be a special we're going to flip we're going to flip
56:30
a little bit because this is such a dark terrible story I think what we're going to do is we're going to pick the best of
56:36
the worst on this one oh God what does that even mean it
56:41
means the one that you would like to meet oh then then I'm gonna go have a
56:48
beer with a goat man me too we're gonna go grab some
56:56
chicks man we're going to grope with the goat oh God I'm grope the goat
57:04
baby after hearing all these stories I am totally chilling with
57:09
Goatman oh you don't want to go hang out with the eyeball killer oh they're just terrible this was
57:16
uh this was rough I think I think I know why zip bailed on us he dude now that I think about it that
57:23
eyeball killer might be the worst one like yeah for poops and Giggles an old J
57:30
we really just say that I forgot you have
57:37
kids oh man so what so all in all though what who is the worst oh I okay so oh
57:44
let's look at this as per the show format I'll read quickly the headlines so we got the ghosts of Yorktown hospital we got the wind windo windo
57:52
we've got the goat man we got people believing satanic that are causing crimes we've got the Amber
57:58
Alert origin story the eyeball killer uh we've got the servant girls that were
58:03
the servant girl Annihilator the best death metal song ever uh Angel of Death the nurse that killed babies guy that
58:10
chopped off heads in Houston of course the railroad the angel of the railroad so the railroad killer dude was
58:17
just straight up bananas it sounds like he's like a schizophrenic serial killer that's why and that you like it's
58:24
terrifying but it's not the worst to be so bad that you're just going to inject
58:30
babies 30 to 60 babies that's pretty awful but scooping people's eyeballs out
58:38
with xacto knives is pretty horrendous as well that's your pick for worst or
58:43
the best I'm gonna go xacto knife okay that's good iBall killer I'm gonna go
58:49
with Angel of Death the Nur because yeah it's one thing to kill prostitutes or uh
58:54
there's a couple of the other serial kills had a couple of young people and yes but overall she killed the mo she
59:00
killed the most she wins she she killed the most babies that servant girl
59:05
Annihilator dude was pretty rank too that yeah he's like Rob Zombie violent
59:11
got that guy you're just turning people into jelly oh man well there you go thank you
59:21

59:51
your take that was with Ed and Aaron how would you say it they're like a not a not a political podcast but they were
59:57
current event they talk about entertainment Politics the State of Affair of the country yeah you know and
1:00:03
they obviously come from the black perspective it's uh so it's Unique to their their Viewpoint and how they see
1:00:09
things and I've learned so much through them on these issues and then we have cult 45 and they deal with movie reviews
1:00:17
and they're amazing with their with their reviews one big toilet with Tony that guy is a he kills me he makes me
1:00:24
laugh but he a he's a genius I force him to do positive
1:00:32
moments on the sh I love it yeah Tony's positivity corner is the best is is the
1:00:37
best I love it and then lastly we just got a new one as the time of this recording oh the week ended take that's
