Robby: You're listening to the Brand
ED Bullet from the Brand ED Podcast.

Four freaky fast Friday wins to
get you going for your weekend.

Let's go.

Win number one, something to try.

Perhaps you purposely play your
preferred podcast using your phones

pre-installed podcast player.

By the way, I just set a record
for nine PS in a single sentence.

But I want you to check out
my favorite podcast player.

It's called Overcast and here are the
reasons why it's my go-to podcast player.

One, you can set a custom playback
speed and you can do that per podcast.

So set your true crime
podcast to play at 1.3 speed.

But your news podcast to
play at 1.7 times speed.

You can share a podcast episode
at a specific time in the episode.

Now I use this all of the
time when taking notes.

And I put the timestamp in the notes.

Skip intro and outro per podcast, you
can automatically skip the sponsor ad

or the closing credits by setting it to
start and end when you want per podcast.

And you can also share a
clip from within an episode.

You can create your own short audio
or audio and video clip to share

with a friend right inside the app.

And best of all, overcast is free
and it's run by an individual,

not a big media company.

Win number two, something
a client recently asked.

A client recently asked me to
take a look at their home page.

I found two common mistakes.

And in fact, I see these so much.

I'm more surprised when I
don't find them than when I do.

First I hit command F or control
F on the PC, in my browser.

And I do a search for the word you, Y O U.

It's a dirty little trick because this
shows me at a glance how many times your

website copy is talking directly to your
client, your customer, or your audience.

The second problem is white space.

I can improve the design of most
personal brand websites simply by

adding more space or padding around
each of the elements on the page.

Try these out on your own site.

Win number three,
something to think about.

The internet is great at speeding
things up, not slowing things down.

Most of us assume life would
improve if we could speed things up.

More automation, more information,
more done in less time.

The speed at which we bounce
around on the internet is faster

now than it was a decade ago.

But I haven't noticed an inverse
effect in people's lives.

With all of the speed at our
fingertips no one's complaining

to me about being underwhelmed.

Win number four, something personal.

I've been thinking a lot about
building a personal brand these days.

It's quite the trend coming out
of the pandemic with all of the

job changing that's going on.

The current personal brand bug reminds
me of another trend from the early 2000s.

It's one I was actually associated with.

It turns out as this trend played out, it
hasn't been all peaches and butterflies.

In fact, the past 20 years have
revealed some rather ugly, dangerous

side effects from this trend.

I'm noticing several similarities
between building a personal brand and

that trend from the early two thousands.

And I believe they share
some inherent dangers.

I shared seven of those dangers and a
podcast series called the seven deadly

dangers of building a personal brand.

Go check out that series
beginning and episode 57.

And let me know what you think.

Thanks for joining me on this
episode of the brand ed bullet.

Good news.
