One Gospel Minute

Vanity serves no purpose. Arrogance, conceit, and pride are human characteristics. Pursuing wealth and worldly recognition is empty (Ecclesiastes 2). Being steadfast and abounding in the work of the Lord, as stated in I Corinthians 15:58, is seen as humble service to God, contrasting with vanity. What's life all about? "Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man" (Ecclesiastes 12:13).

David Hill: Vanity comes to no useful end. Arrogance, conceit, pride are characteristics of man. James four and verse six, "God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble." Wealth, the love and pursuit of it, all of that is vain (Ecclesiastes 2). Elevated position, thing, celebrity - celebrated by the world, are vain in the eyes of God.

Jesus asked, "What shall it profit a man if he should gain the whole world and lose his own soul?" (Mark 8, verse 36). God says, "Be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for your labor is not in vain in the Lord" (I Corinthians 15:58). Abounding in God is the opposite of vanity. It's humble service to Him.
