I’m Matthew, here to start off your week with major headlines and what’s coming up.

It’s Monday, February 23rd.

This year, the men’s basketball team saw a shift in their overall team dynamic. The team introduced 10 new players, which makes up over half of the men’s basketball team. Head basketball coach Dave Holmquist helped the team adapt to the changes and work together as a team. Holmquist is going into his 46th year of coaching. Holmquist helps inspire both his players and the student body to listen to the call that God has for them.

His Last Breath, a metal band that performed at Punk n Pie, love to glorify God through their music. For the band, metal acts in the same way lamentations do. It allows the band members to connect with God in a vulnerable way. Although it is not confirmed, the band hopes to perform to the students of Biola at “Hopechella.” Hopechella is a currently unconfirmed festival of Biola musical talent that takes place in the Hope Hall. In the meantime, you can listen to their performance on Instagram.

Art studio manager and environmental science professor, Kevin Browning, works to encourage Biola students to think outside of themselves and ask the question: “How can I be a better steward of God’s creation?” Browning has helped with the Creation Care Club, a marine biology club, “garden days” events and even revamped the environmental science class.

Reagan’s edit: Tonight at 6 PM, the Conservatory of Music will host a concert featuring solo piano works performed by conservatory pianists. The event will take place at Lansing Recital Hall. This event is free to attend.

This Wednesday, the Career Center will host the Career Expo from 10 AM to 2:30 PM on Metzger Lawn. Come meet with employers hiring for a variety of roles, including internships and entry-level positions! Open to all majors, student years, and recent grads!

This week, Biola celebrates its 118th birthday! They will host several events around campus. Make sure to head to the Bell Tower on Wednesday at 3 p.m. There will be beverages and cupcakes as long as supplies last.

Also, as part of Biola’s celebration, come by Eagles Nest this Wednesday at 8 p.m. to participate in an annual trivia night! Test your knowledge about Biola and compete for a chance to win a SquishEagle and other prizes worth over 75 dollars. Bring 3-4 friends to compete in a team.

This Thursday, from 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM in Andrews Banquet Room, the School of Science, Technology, and Health will host their annual Rosa Lecture Speaker Series. Distinguished industry leaders will share with the Biola community their diverse professional and personal insights. All are welcome to hear from world-leading engineering design expert and engaging speaker Dr. Stuart Burgess.

This Friday at 7:30 PM in Lansing Recital Hall, the Conservatory of Music will host the Symphonic Winds Concert under the direction of Dr. Karl Meyers. They will be joined by the La Mirada High School Wind Ensemble to present their spring concert. And that’s all for this week.
