Warm welcome to all our listeners. Today’s Chumash portion is from the section of Noso in the book of Numbers, focusing on the sanctity of the Jewish people. This portion was taught on the day the tabernacle was erected, along with seven other portions.
When someone steals, restitution must be made. The repayment goes to the victim's estate, heirs, children, and grandchildren. This law activates only upon the thief's confession. Repetition in the Torah always brings new insights.
Gezel Hagar addresses the restitution for something stolen from a deceased convert. The principle and an additional fifth as a penalty go to the Kohanic family in charge that week.
The Torah states that any gift or offering to the Kohen belongs to him. Each individual has ownership over their holy contributions. Giving truma to the Kohen is both a right and a choice of the donor. True wealth is found in what one gives away, making it holy and offering it to charity. These acts are eternal.
