Movies are fun! Movies are awesome! But movies can sometimes be very, very weird... or just plain terrible. In this intersection of fun, awesome, weird and terrible is where Matt, Luciano, Chris and Spencer live and thrive. They'll be watching the latest FACTS (Fantasy, Action, Comic, Thriller, Sci-Fi) movies available on streaming services and sharing their equally awesome, fun, weird and terrible thoughts on them. Welcome to Popcorn & Plot Holes!
Matt (00:00.627)
Hello and welcome back to Popcorn I plot holes!
Spencer (00:05.102)
Well, Lisa not going in!
Luciano (00:07.798)
hahahaha
Matt (00:10.995)
well I have three of us here this week. Chris couldn't make it, other Chris couldn't make it. Something about popcorn buckets set in choir. Too much further than that. And that's a joke you're gonna find funny after I tell you that we watched Dune 2.
Luciano (00:28.182)
Ooooo
Spencer (00:28.782)
because their buckets were vaginas.
Matt (00:34.363)
with spikes spikes with me as always Luciano
Spencer (00:35.566)
with spikes.
Luciano (00:40.502)
Hello.
Matt (00:41.811)
Spencer.
Luciano (00:45.558)
You said I'm gay!
Spencer (00:48.878)
What up everybody?
Matt (00:50.035)
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Luciano (00:51.958)
Yeah.
Matt (00:55.091)
Do we watch Dune 2? Hmm, whose vehicle would this be? That's a tough one. I'm going to say...
Luciano (01:03.51)
Zendaya vehicle. It's too accurate.
Spencer (01:04.846)
No, that's too real.
Matt (01:05.395)
No, that's too real. That's not how this works at all.
Spencer (01:09.87)
No, no, no, it's a... That's probably like the best choice. That's where I was going to. Everyone else is too big. No, cause she's also like up and coming and very popular right now. So kind of is a vehicle for her. Bill.
Luciano (01:11.286)
the Christopher Walken vehicle.
Matt (01:13.363)
Ooh, okay, better.
Matt (01:18.003)
Florence Pugh.
Luciano (01:25.334)
The Bill's Cars Guard vehicle.
Matt (01:25.715)
Sorry, crew.
Matt (01:31.123)
What else we got here? Josh Brolin?
Spencer (01:31.214)
I like that.
Luciano (01:33.398)
The Josh Brolin vehicle, yes.
Spencer (01:35.214)
No, it's a scars guard vehicle for sure. What's his name? Not Bill, the. Stellan yet, Stone Stars. Yes, still the scars guard vehicle. Because that's his son. That's the guy who's in it.
Luciano (01:37.398)
Yeah.
Matt (01:40.755)
Stella. Bill. Yeah.
Luciano (01:42.006)
Is it Stellan? Okay. I don't know why I thought it was Bill. All right, that's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Matt (01:49.907)
Yeah.
Luciano (01:52.214)
felons cars guide your ass.
Matt (01:52.659)
Alright, listen, it's fine, we nailed it. We did a good job. Let's leave sound, leave sound, okay, let's talk about this movie. We always start with something positive just in case this movie is not good. So let's talk about doing two, it's positives. Same as doing one fucking gorgeous movie.
Spencer (01:55.95)
Listen, Al -Ghaib.
Luciano (01:58.934)
Listen, Al -Ghaib.
Luciano (02:13.654)
Yes, it is. I particularly loved the way that they did like Gaty Prime, the Harkonnen home world, home city. There's a scene where the Bene Gesserit are arriving and they're like in color. And as they go near the sun or outside, it progressively very slowly gets in black and white. I played that scene like back and forth.
Spencer (02:14.958)
Fucking yes. It is.
Luciano (02:42.582)
three or four times, it's just so smooth and gorgeous. And the whole idea of it being like everything black and white and everything.
Matt (02:49.715)
Are you sure that Thor Ragnarok, not Thor Ragnarok, Thor, Love and Thunder didn't do that better?
Luciano (02:53.558)
Love and thunder? No, it did not!
Spencer (02:53.838)
Love and thunder.
Matt (02:58.387)
Okay. Let me ask you a follow -up question. Which guy is the actor there? It's blanking my mind. Would Christian Bale have made a better Feynman -Rafa than Austin Butler?
Luciano (03:02.742)
Yes.
Spencer (03:08.11)
Christian Bale.
Luciano (03:08.95)
Christian Bale.
Luciano (03:13.206)
Yes, actually, yes, it would better than Mr. Pouty, man. Yeah.
Spencer (03:17.614)
I thought he was awesome but there was awesome.
Matt (03:20.339)
Yeah. But, anyways, just a question. I would talk about good things about this movie. Not that there's anything wrong with Vader or Alpha.
Luciano (03:21.206)
It was alright.
Spencer (03:26.094)
My favorite thing about Fade Ratha is that he was doing a Stellan Skarsgard accent and that was awesome. He nailed it. Like I was like, I was like, what an interesting choice to just to just make like an impersonate, like mimic the actor's voice. Like to him, yeah. And the fact that he pulled that off without like taking you out of the movie was was like impressive.
Luciano (03:31.47)
Yeah.
Matt (03:32.787)
Yeah, you did a really good job.
Luciano (03:41.718)
the guy to his face. Yeah. Yeah.
Matt (03:51.763)
Yeah, it's good when it's one person because it adds to the depth of the character being like he looks up to his uncle and he's trying to be like him and take on his traits.
Luciano (03:59.734)
Like emulate, yeah.
Spencer (03:59.982)
You're saying you didn't want everyone from Getty Prime to sound like StoneScarredScarred? The entire planet?
Matt (04:03.667)
Okay.
Luciano (04:04.054)
You didn't want Dave Bautista to try it? Is that what you're saying? No, that was probably a good choice. Yeah, I agree.
Matt (04:08.535)
Listen, it was good enough for a water woman when everybody had her accent.
Spencer (04:12.782)
Heheheheh
Everyone's like, what are we doing here? I'm getting prime. it's, it's, it's, yeah, even the women. Welcome to this planet. it's Christopher Lambert. It's turning into Christopher Lambert. It always does. My name is Stellan Starsgard.
Matt (04:17.011)
Yeah.
Luciano (04:22.102)
Even the women. Even the women.
Matt (04:22.323)
You -
Luciano (04:26.646)
Yeah.
Matt (04:27.411)
That... What is that accent? That's just Christopher Lambert. Anyways.
Luciano (04:29.526)
Yeah, I don't know where it's going. Where is it going? Yeah. Also love the choice. I love the choice of putting Christopher Walken as the emperor. I.
Matt (04:41.843)
Yeah, he's perfectly clueless. But he's a good enough actor to come across with the gravitas of, I am the emperor even though I clearly have no power left in me.
Luciano (04:44.886)
Yeah.
Luciano (04:48.854)
Yeah.
Luciano (04:52.918)
Ben Gesserit, you know, and not trustworthy. Like I was expecting him to go into like, yeah, yeah.
Spencer (04:53.326)
Yeah.
Matt (04:55.187)
Ha ha.
Spencer (04:57.646)
Yeah, yeah, he didn't go over the top. Let me, let me tell you about the planet of Lysand Algaeib, I mean Arrakis. Arrakis, yeah.
Luciano (05:07.254)
Arrakis. Yeah, I was expecting him to go over the top, but he didn't.
Spencer (05:15.022)
It's a very very sandy planet No that sometimes a Christian walking goes into that whispery voice, you know, you'll start off like Let me tell you about Arrakis. It's very very sandy You know, yes
Luciano (05:19.19)
What is that? Is that supposed to be Stellar Card Scardra? that's true. Yeah, okay.
Luciano (05:32.406)
yeah, yeah, I know what you mean, yeah. Yeah.
Matt (05:33.107)
Better, better. You did it better the second time. Yeah, I mean, I think, you know, all the casting choices were inspired to the new, do we add any cast members? Not really, just.
Luciano (05:43.862)
Nah, Fede Ratha. And Florence Pugh. Yeah. Christopher Walkenau wasn't either.
Spencer (05:44.078)
Well, Florence Pugh wasn't in the first one. Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, the girl who banged Fade Ratha.
Matt (05:46.963)
Yeah, just fade, Ratha. Yeah.
lady, lady Fennering.
Luciano (05:52.662)
Wow, Lady Fenring. Yeah.
Spencer (05:55.438)
Yeah, I like that actress. She's in that video game Death Stranding. She plays fragile because she's not fragile.
Luciano (05:59.158)
She's a...
Matt (05:59.475)
good.
Luciano (06:02.774)
What's her name? Something say do. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Matt (06:06.803)
Leah, I don't know how the accent specifically works. She was in one of the bonds as well.
Spencer (06:07.598)
Leah said do yeah yeah yeah yeah nice yeah she was cool
Spencer (06:16.302)
That's true.
Matt (06:17.203)
No time to die. Anywho, anything else besides the casting we liked?
Spencer (06:22.43)
yeah, I mean, you said it already, but I just want to add this movie was a technical fucking masterpiece. I think it should win all the awards. My only regret is not seeing it. I saw it in theaters, but I wish I saw it in IMAX because I know it was filmed for IMAX and it was like fucking like in the theater. It was just like an experience.
Luciano (06:28.95)
Mmm.
Luciano (06:44.886)
Normally, like when movies try to make things look super like epic and grandiose, it comes off like gaudy or like cheesy. This one, they pull it off like just the size of the ships and the numbers of people.
Spencer (06:55.406)
Yeah, yeah, for sure. Well, that's the thing.
Yeah. And the thing that that Denis Villeneuve does that Christopher Nolan does is they film these like really epic movies, but they try and make it like, I'm like, everyone's like, you should do everything practical. And like, no, I'm not saying practical, but they film on location and they'll add effects. And it feels so big when you do that. It's like, it's like the opposite of like the 300 Zack Snyder style, everything green screened where that feels.
Luciano (07:19.83)
Yeah, yeah.
Matt (07:29.107)
Even the Marvel stuff, right? Like Marvel is all... Yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (07:30.83)
All the more everything now. It's all like it's all done in like green screen. It's like and when you do it, like when you see like a real desert, it's just something different when you see them there. You can tell, you know, and it just feels like especially when you film with those giant IMAX cameras and everything just looks like such a huge scale. And it's just like sick. Yeah, yeah.
Luciano (07:31.03)
Yeah.
Luciano (07:37.814)
Yeah.
Matt (07:47.315)
It's one, yeah like it.
Luciano (07:48.182)
You believe it's a planet, right? Not just, yeah, yeah.
Matt (07:51.411)
It's as simple as having like, you know, Paul or other people run through the sand and the sand effects around him like it's kicking up on his heel, but it's also sliding down the hill. Like you could do that in CGI, but you would never get it to look right without like years. Yeah, exactly.
Spencer (07:56.366)
Yeah.
Spencer (08:05.742)
Like not, not that imperfect, you know?
Luciano (08:05.942)
Yeah. It feels like things have weight, like in a way that even with the best CGI right now, it's just weird when you do it. Everything with effects. Yeah.
Spencer (08:20.366)
I know when they were filming in the desert, it was like crazy too with all the like the timing they could film with because they didn't use the sun at the right because it used all natural sunlight. So to film in the desert, it was they didn't they had like no like fake some no fake lighting. So it's like really crazy to film it with the sun at the right positions for everything. You know, it's like must have been such a bitch.
Matt (08:28.659)
Yeah.
Luciano (08:39.862)
I wonder what the conditions that they used to film in Guidy Prime, that they got the sense of white.
Spencer (08:45.454)
They just told everyone to be black and white.
Luciano (08:47.766)
They told him turn turn on your black and white No, he went there
Spencer (08:49.838)
Yeah, yeah, they said... Wait, you can't do that?
Matt (08:53.651)
Excuse me, this is a whites only party.
Spencer (08:54.926)
Heheheheh
Matt (08:59.443)
It's not my fault that Frank Derbert, Frank Derbert, Frank Herbert, Frank Dilbert. So my fault, Frank Herbert may have written an extremely racist book back in the day.
Luciano (09:01.942)
Derbert? Derbert? Frank... Frank Dubert.
Spencer (09:02.734)
Frank the herbert!
Luciano (09:14.134)
Noooo
Spencer (09:14.574)
When was this book written?
Matt (09:16.979)
book 70s 60 so 65 anyways this is a good point to remind people that were some of us have read the books all of us have not read the book but we're talking about the movie we're gonna focus on the movie if there is instances where the book does something different than the movie we're probably not gonna bring it up unless it's important because frankly books are for nerds
Luciano (09:17.494)
65, 65.
Luciano (09:27.574)
Yeah.
Spencer (09:36.846)
Yes. And if something is explained in the books, that's not explained in the movies, we won't know that's still confusing in the movie for us. So don't come at us saying like, you just didn't read the books. That's what you didn't understand. Be like, well,
Luciano (09:37.942)
Wait, wait.
Luciano (09:44.31)
It doesn't count. It doesn't count. Yes. Yes.
What you don't know is that in 10 ,000 years the Bennett item give a shit if it's not in this movie doesn't matter
Spencer (09:55.95)
Yeah, yeah, it doesn't, this movie should stand on its own. I don't wanna, Luciano, I'm actually coming at me.
Luciano (10:00.246)
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm and I'm saying this so you know, it's gotta be That's only because I didn't read the book Yeah, yeah for sure for sure
Spencer (10:09.166)
Yeah, if you read the book you'd be all over that. Actually, in subsection C, page 342, they say that the lasers are powered by coal and social anxiety.
Matt (10:12.307)
Yeah.
Luciano (10:16.182)
Hahaha!
can only be used in the morning. Yeah. Cool. No, that's, that's a different, that's a different thing.
Matt (10:21.139)
call.
Do you think it's maybe been helped if it focused more on the grain farming and less on the desert parts of Arrakis?
Spencer (10:30.446)
hahahaha
Luciano (10:32.726)
Instead of if they weren't so worried about spice if they were more worried about the grain Yeah
Spencer (10:37.23)
Perfect analogy for.
Matt (10:37.363)
If that spice harvesting was like slow motion and about 40 minutes long.
Luciano (10:41.694)
And they were trying to get the spice from the sand with like sights in slow motion. Yeah. I think it would have been an interesting experience.
Matt (10:48.083)
as slow as possible. Yeah.
Spencer (10:50.094)
I mean, I know we're talking about Dune, but I mean, you're actually right. Like if they treated the grain in fucking Harvest Moon like they did the way they treat spice in this movie, it would be a good movie. It would make sense.
Luciano (11:01.014)
Yeah, if only. If only! It should be. It should be Harvest Moon. We should only call that movie Harvest Moon now. Harvest Moon, the curse of the grain.
Matt (11:01.427)
It was Rebel Moon, not Harvest Moon. But maybe it should be Harvest Moon, the Scargiver.
Spencer (11:04.654)
What a - it should've been called Harvest Moon! Harvest Moon's a way better title! That was completely unintentional!
Matt (11:18.899)
Perfect. I do love me some harvest moon. So I think one of the things we want to talk about, we're trying our best to enjoy this movie, but it's a good movie. And there's one thing that caught all of us that we're trying to unpack because it kind of is way it's woven, woven through both movies. And thank you. It's the prophecy, right? From from the Benny Chester. It's. And so.
Luciano (11:22.422)
Yeah.
Luciano (11:40.79)
You got there.
Yeah.
Matt (11:48.211)
Let's talk about it for a bit because the way the movie ends, Paul is Paul leads the Fremen to victory and he positions himself as the emperor by marrying or saying he's going to marry the emperor's daughter, Florence Pugh. Right in front of Chani Chani takes it like anybody in 2024 would take it walks right out of that place back into the desert.
Luciano (12:06.39)
Right in front of Chinese too.
Luciano (12:14.526)
yeah. I have to say this. One of the favorite things in this movie is Zendaya has one of the best pissed off faces I've ever seen. I was actually scared of her. It was so good. But yeah, the prophecy. So are we talking about the Bene Gesserit prophecy or are we talking about the Freeman prophecy?
Matt (12:24.271)
yeah. Yeah.
So.
Spencer (12:32.782)
Yeah, are there two separate prophecies? Or are they the same?
Matt (12:34.483)
Yes. Well, so all we know is that the Bene Gesserit had given the prophecy to the Fremen way back in the day to sort of control the population. But much like languages that you give to a group of people and then they migrate away, it's mutated and changed over the centuries. So the Fremen have a slightly different version of what the Bene Gesserit had been, you know, spewing.
Luciano (12:43.062)
Right.
Luciano (12:53.462)
Yeah.
Spencer (12:58.638)
That's where I'm confused because I'm confused because it's like, I thought that they made the prophecy to control people and like influence them and have control, but then they also believe their own prophecy. So they like know that one prophecy is kind of made up, but then they have their own prophecy, which they believe.
Luciano (13:07.734)
Yeah, they did.
Luciano (13:13.59)
I think.
Luciano (13:19.958)
I think it's the one and the same, but like Mat -Sat, it just became like one became the other. So like it's the same.
Spencer (13:27.182)
And they're like, you guys are so stupid for believing that stupid prophecy. That's slightly different from our prophecy.
Luciano (13:30.742)
Hahaha!
Spencer (13:35.854)
Which is the truth. That's I mean, I guess that sounds pretty accurate to real life. It doesn't sound so stupid. I say it.
Luciano (13:38.102)
Isn't that how it always goes? Yeah. Because the, so the Bene Gesserit have that prophecy, which isn't, it's not really a prophecy as much as it is like almost like something they're engineering, right? Over the millennia, which is a male quote unquote Bene Gesserit that is going to be born. Cause they have like the whole genetic memory thing, but it only the women do. And then Paul.
Technically he is the one, the male that inherited the same thing. And so he is like the prophet.
Matt (14:11.891)
You know, I really love that we could bring 1965 sensibilities to 2024. Men saving women, a white man saving women and Middle Eastern culture.
Luciano (14:15.19)
Yes, a white man, a white man, yes. Yeah, he's both the saviour of the women only, like the matriarchal women only society and of the Middle Eastern sand people.
Spencer (14:15.742)
I was thinking the same thing.
Spencer (14:34.286)
Yeah, you know what that like that multi millennial sisterhood really needed? We need a man to run this thing. We've done this for 3000 years, but we need a man to take over. We got no...
Luciano (14:39.51)
A man, a white man. Yeah. They did this whole galaxy wide conspiracy of manipulating entire kingdoms and empires just so that the right man could be born to lead them.
Matt (14:40.475)
We got we've gotten nowhere, but we get this man in the power
Spencer (15:00.43)
Yes.
Matt (15:01.523)
Although, to be fair, I believe somewhere in the Benny Jesper, weren't they trying to get rid of, they were trying to make sure the profit never came, right?
Spencer (15:11.342)
boy.
Luciano (15:11.446)
I thought I just wanted to make sure that it was going to be someone who they could control, right?
Matt (15:18.099)
Well, first I think they're trying to get rid of them and then if they couldn't get rid of them, they try to control them. That was the plan. Yeah.
Spencer (15:24.43)
Yeah, because that one lady calls him an abomination. So she's like against -
Luciano (15:24.47)
Mmm.
Luciano (15:29.462)
I see. Well, well...
Matt (15:30.693)
I think Jessica was supposed to like off him or something if something some setter that was in the first movie Yeah, and sure she didn't so though they've stumbled down prophecy prophecy lane So they didn't want a man to save them. They needed a man to save them
Luciano (15:34.774)
Yeah, they say that in the first movie. Yeah.
Luciano (15:44.118)
I see. God, they didn't have the profit they needed or they wanted, but the profit they needed. I see. This is so bad. They deserved. Yes. Yeah. yeah. And then, so I think that like the... So they had the... What you might call it? It's a weird name. Quissatz Haderach.
Spencer (15:45.87)
as is tradition.
Matt (15:52.819)
That's right. Yeah.
Spencer (15:53.742)
They had the profit, not the profit they needed, but the profit they deserved.
Matt (15:58.611)
That's right. Yeah. Thanks, Frank. You nailed it.
Spencer (16:02.253)
Dark Knight.
Luciano (16:13.942)
That's what the Bene Gesserit's called, right? Which quick sack, you know, I think it means shortening of the way, whatever that, whatever. But like, yeah, so the Fremen had the Lisanne Al -Ghaib. Lisanne Al -Ghaib! Which is the outsider who showed the way or something like that.
Spencer (16:14.382)
Yeah, quit sacking.
Spencer (16:30.766)
NGA NGA NGA NGAAA!
Spencer (16:37.518)
And then what's what's Muhadib? That's the mouse.
Matt (16:37.811)
Yeah.
Luciano (16:40.342)
No, so Muad'Dib is the name he picked for himself, is the desert mouse. Yeah. But you're thinking about Mardi, which is the word that they use for Messiah. Yeah, I know. I was confused as well. Yeah.
Matt (16:43.379)
Yeah, desert mouse.
Matt (16:48.947)
Yeah. Yeah. Get it together.
Spencer (16:49.55)
boy.
Wow, I'm such an idiot.
Matt (16:54.899)
Yeah, it's all there, plain as day. I don't know what your problem is.
Luciano (16:59.222)
But yeah, like.
Spencer (16:59.438)
All I know is I'm a big believer in Lisa Naguayib. The more he says he's not Lisa Naguayib, the more he is Lisa Naguayib.
Luciano (17:02.71)
LESER AT GAIM!
Matt (17:06.579)
Chill still, Gar. We'll get to you.
Luciano (17:07.03)
I have to say, yeah, I was going to say, Javier Bardem did a good job of like hyping it up. Yeah. Of course he would say it. That's what he would say. Of course. Yeah. he is drowning in the cool air. That is true. Yeah.
Matt (17:18.547)
He's a genius!
Spencer (17:24.558)
He's drinking the Kool -Aid hardcore. Yeah.
Matt (17:28.723)
Technically, he's not allowed to drink that Kool -Aid.
Right, we'll get to that as well. So, okay, so the prophecy is both...
prophecy it feels almost like a story or not a story but like
Luciano (17:42.966)
Yeah, it's like, it's one of those like, it's a prophecy that you already know, like the conclusion is kind of foregone. And then you say, there was a prophecy about it. Like we, there's a prophecy about this thing that we've been forcing for 10 ,000 years. Yeah, exactly. Redconning. It's a redcon. Yeah.
Matt (17:53.491)
Yeah.
Spencer (17:53.614)
It's a -
Matt (17:56.819)
It's like, yeah, they're backfilling the story. Yeah.
Spencer (18:00.654)
It's like saying there's a prophecy that climate change is gonna affect the earth. It's like, well, we're kind of making it happen. So is that a prophecy or is that just doing it?
Luciano (18:07.318)
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Us being dumb. Yeah.
Matt (18:10.355)
It's basically, this is basically the same as guessing, you know, like at the beginning of a sports season, you're like, a basketball team from North America is going to win the championship. And it's like, see Denver one, they're from North America, prophecy fulfilled.
Luciano (18:21.59)
Yeah.
Spencer (18:24.654)
He is the one! He is the one!
Luciano (18:24.758)
Yeah.
Luciano (18:31.254)
Of course they would say Denver wouldn't win because then when it won it would be much better. genius. Yeah. Yeah. I think so the feeling that I got just because I haven't read the books, I was going to say I haven't read the movies. I also haven't read the movies. So in the movie, the sense that I got was that it was supposed to show that like it's not really a prophecy. It's something that people are doing on purpose.
Matt (18:36.595)
Yeah, genius.
Spencer (18:39.05)
Yeah
Matt (18:42.995)
Matt (18:49.939)
We're not talking about the books. We're not talking about the books.
Luciano (18:59.734)
and like the Fremen of the North aren't as convinced as the fundamentalists of the South. But then at the end he actually does become Mr. Magic Man, right? So... Yeah.
Spencer (19:10.382)
That's the part that confused me too, is, I mean, it didn't really, it did confuse me. I'm confused on whether or not I'm confused. No, because the vibe that I got was that the prophecy was like a scam that Benny Jesaritz used to like manipulate people. But then it's like, but he legit has powers and he legit.
Luciano (19:17.174)
Hahahaha
Matt (19:18.355)
Yes.
Luciano (19:24.982)
Yeah, that's what I thought too.
Matt (19:27.795)
See ya!
Luciano (19:31.862)
Yeah, and especially after he drinks like warm blood, he actually can see the future and whatever.
Spencer (19:35.406)
Yeah. Cause then it's like, it's like, the prophecies that he will know our ways and that he will be able to ride the worm. And then it's like, but he can ride the worm. So I'm like, I'm like the Fremen. I'm like, see, he is the Lisa. And then they're like, no, he was. Yeah. But then it's like, no, but he was trained from a young age to be able to like understand cultures and learn languages. And like, he was basically designed. Yeah. But see, that's where I'm, that's where I'm confused.
Luciano (19:46.774)
Yeah, like they have evidence, right? Yeah.
Luciano (19:55.798)
Yeah, but not ride the worm.
Matt (19:59.827)
But again, I think, they don't show this, but my interpretation of it to some degree is like, none of this stuff is impossible for someone else to know, right? Like, it's probably a series of percentage chance that someone can do all these things. And so we need to add them all together to find these are not all gaib. It's like so super rare, it's like 0 .00001 % or something.
Luciano (20:01.206)
Yeah.
Luciano (20:10.934)
Mm -hmm.
Luciano (20:26.358)
Yeah, but it's not 0, right? Yeah.
Matt (20:28.723)
was not zero. So like, yeah, Paul can, I'm sure there's, in theory, there's plenty of Fremen who got a sandworm the first time and wrote it, but because he's not an outsider, it's like, nah, not the prophet, get out of here. Just a regular Fremen.
Luciano (20:37.43)
Yeah.
Spencer (20:38.19)
Yeah, maybe he's just the first non -Fremont to even try and it's not even that hard.
Matt (20:42.771)
Who knows? Yeah, right? Like, it's not easy, but it's not hard per se. Sure. He's trained to stand on those little butterfly helicopter things. Like maybe it's the same feeling as doing that, right?
Spencer (20:46.286)
Like if you're trained properly, like anyone could do it.
Luciano (20:49.59)
Yeah.
Luciano (20:56.598)
Yeah.
Spencer (20:57.742)
Yeah, because they say he's trained to really master all of his abilities, right? So he's a very skilled hand -eye and perfected.
Luciano (21:07.218)
And he was like trained by Jessica too, because of his powers to like mentally as well, right?
Spencer (21:15.342)
So that's the thing that's confusing. So it's like there are powers, but they're not like prophecy powers. They're just, people can just have powers.
Luciano (21:22.134)
Yeah, so.
Matt (21:22.227)
Yeah, this is, well, I was gonna say this is essentially like back in the day where you had basketball and there were some good, and I'll come back to basketball, there's some good people at basketball and then the prophet Michael Jordan shows up, someone who trained himself to be, right? And then I was like, he's the greatest basketball player of all time. And like, so it's just like, prophecy is true, right? And it's just like, nah, he's just really focused on basketball and all he cared about was basketball. And so he got really good at it, right?
Spencer (21:27.95)
It all comes back down to basketball.
Luciano (21:30.518)
Jesus Christ!
Luciano (21:35.542)
Yeah.
Spencer (21:36.718)
Look out!
Luciano (21:38.678)
Hahaha!
The prophecy is true. Yeah.
Luciano (21:50.294)
It was naturally gifted at it and yeah.
Matt (21:52.403)
Sure, he had a natural gift, but then he got trained to be super good at it.
Luciano (21:56.822)
Yeah, so I was confused by the same thing because for the whole thing, I was like, OK, they're they're abusing this belief like they're picking they picked Paul and like trained him to fulfill the prophecy because they knew people are going to believe it. But then in the end, it's like, OK, but even the magic shit that he like men were supposed to die when they drink the holy poison. I can't believe they call it holy poison, too. But like.
didn't die so then wait but there is an actual prophecy i don't know it was confusing to me what the movie wanted to say about this
Matt (22:31.315)
I think...
Luciano (22:33.174)
And now they're going to holy war clearly with. Yeah. No, they will. They probably will.
Matt (22:35.123)
Well, the impression, yeah, which are they call it a jihad?
Spencer (22:39.79)
No, no, no, no, no, no,
Matt (22:41.203)
No. We'll ask Frank. I haven't read the second book. I have no idea. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Hey. No, but like I think -
Luciano (22:45.494)
We'll ask Frank. We'll have a Ouija board to ask Frank.
Spencer (22:50.766)
Hey Frank, what are you doing? What were you doing when you were out doing?
Matt (22:55.635)
You
Luciano (22:56.282)
You
Matt (22:58.867)
god, I can't believe this came back. But like I think the idea was that like the Benny Jesuits played themselves by creating this fake prophet to control the Fremen and then it got away from them because he ended up actually being real. Because like once he drinks the worm juice, like he sees all and he can't be controlled, right? Is it their blood? I don't know. She kind of just sticks a tube in there, so I can't tell.
Luciano (22:59.158)
Hahaha.
Luciano (23:12.342)
and it got away from them?
Luciano (23:21.238)
Yeah, yeah he It looks like it's the blood the blood the stomach juice, I don't know
Matt (23:31.371)
So I think that like, that's the thing, is like the prophecy, it's supposed to be fake but it ends up being true. And now, cause like when Paul uses the voice on like, I don't know what the benedicessorate, was she the Reverend Mother? Like the top benedicessorate. Yeah. When he uses the voice on her, like, shut up you old bag.
Luciano (23:47.446)
Yeah, she was the Reverend Mother of the like the Emperor's faction or whatever. Yeah.
Spencer (23:52.718)
SILENCE SHUT YOUR FACE
Luciano (23:55.446)
Yeah, shut your face you fart
Matt (23:58.003)
yeah, it's been, it's clear they've lost control, right? That Paul is now, he's in control, not his own. So that's the impression I got.
Luciano (24:00.95)
Yeah.
Luciano (24:06.55)
Hmm, okay. A prophecy that was real. Yeah, they stumbled into the truth. Actually, thinking about it this way, it's actually interesting. Yeah.
Spencer (24:06.862)
So they accidentally made a, accidentally their prophecy was real.
that task failed successfully?
Matt (24:18.867)
Yeah, you're welcome.
Spencer (24:19.79)
Okay, I could go with that.
Matt (24:23.283)
We'll see how it goes in the second book, movie.
Luciano (24:25.27)
Yes.
Spencer (24:26.894)
Second, you mean third movie?
Matt (24:28.819)
Well, yeah, but like, you know, yeah, but that's, that's, that's what I got from it.
Spencer (24:30.254)
Yeah, Messiah.
Luciano (24:35.03)
Yeah, I guess I can see it. It was very confusing during the movie.
Spencer (24:35.182)
Yeah, I -I -I -
That makes me feel better because it kind of bugged me. Because the whole time out, like I said, I was like, this is a scam. These guys are just falling for it hook, line and sinker. And then he's like, I can actually see the future and I can see your dreams and I can control people with my voice. And it's like all these things I'm like, well, I kind of believe I believe this guy now.
Luciano (24:58.07)
I believe it. Listen again!
Matt (25:02.003)
There's something else I would love to talk about because it comes up near the end and it's not Gurney coming back from the dead, but it's the nukes. Well, he wasn't dead. They thought he was dead. Yeah. But we have the atomic weapons, the atomics, the atomics. Cool. Such a 1960s like.
Spencer (25:15.15)
Was he dead?
Luciano (25:17.014)
We didn't, we never saw, we know that Duncan died, but not Gurney, yeah.
Spencer (25:18.894)
Luciano (25:25.43)
The nukes, the atomics, the atomics. Yeah.
Spencer (25:28.622)
Totally different.
Luciano (25:31.254)
Yes.
Matt (25:32.371)
What's the, we have lasers, but what's the crazy thing? It's still, still Atomics. It's like, come on guy, get a desktop in there or something. so.
Luciano (25:35.734)
The atomics. Yeah.
Spencer (25:40.974)
Ha ha ha.
Matt (25:46.547)
Like no one else has them?
Luciano (25:48.822)
Well, all the great houses do according to Gurny.
Matt (25:52.083)
So how come no one rolled up with some?
Spencer (25:52.654)
Yeah, they quickly said, I believe, now I don't know, I may be mistaken, I did watch some YouTube videos to explain things. So I don't know what's from the movie or what's from the YouTube videos, but I think they said in the movie that they banned Atomics. Like they made it basically, okay, so then maybe that was a YouTube video. I retract that, we said we would only use information from this movie. So in the movie,
Matt (26:02.771)
here we go. Fucking down a rabbit hole.
Luciano (26:06.326)
Hahaha!
Luciano (26:12.438)
I don't remember anything like that. I watched it two days ago, so it's pretty fresh in my head.
Matt (26:13.843)
They didn't say that. They just...
Gurney basically says, hey, your dad hit the nukes out, you know, a mile, yeah, sorry, your dad hit the atomics a couple of miles out of town and you have the signet or whatever so you can open it.
Luciano (26:26.518)
No, the atomics.
Luciano (26:31.542)
Hahaha!
Spencer (26:33.71)
So anyways, I started blasting. This is basically what happens. So yeah, I mean, I think.
Matt (26:37.202)
yeah!
Luciano (26:37.302)
hahahahah
Yeah, I thought that that was a little too convenient. It's like, we need to attack, the emperor is here and he has the giant floating bubble thing. Let's attack. by the way, we have 95 atomic warheads. that's going to be useful.
Matt (26:42.195)
Yeah.
Spencer (27:00.206)
Yeah, that's true. That could be handy. But they don't use the nukes on the building. They use it behind it to shoot rocks at the building.
Luciano (27:08.758)
Yeah, I understood. And I well, not just that, but like the it shows that the thing where they are have the same sort of shield that they have. So if they shot at it, nothing would happen. But like the rocks falling on it is like slower. Like the knives can pass the shields. That that's what I understood. Yeah. So.
Matt (27:10.963)
Well, to get rid of the armies, right?
Spencer (27:29.39)
Okay, is that okay? I like that.
Matt (27:29.907)
Yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (27:34.734)
Okay, that's cooler. That's cooler than what -
Matt (27:34.739)
Yeah, and they don't, it was a way for them to show they have atomics because that was a bargaining chip, right? To get the emperor to talk. But like the idea was that Paul could glass the planet and then there would be no more spice. So that was the bargaining chip to talk. Mm -hmm.
Luciano (27:41.462)
Yeah. All the houses have. Yeah.
Spencer (27:50.254)
Mmm.
Luciano (27:52.31)
That is also a very 60s thing, like a nuclear scare sort of Cold War shit. Yeah.
Spencer (27:59.822)
Yeah, he's like, everybody get under your school table. We'll be fine.
Matt (28:00.499)
Yeah.
Luciano (28:02.87)
Don't look at the mushroom. Yeah. So that's what I understood. I understood that they shot past because they couldn't like aim directly.
Spencer (28:09.582)
So, yeah.
Spencer (28:15.886)
Yeah, because if they hit the shields, it would have...
Luciano (28:19.19)
Yeah, nothing would have happened. Yeah.
Matt (28:21.587)
It just nuked the atmosphere, for lack of a better term.
Spencer (28:23.438)
Got it. Okay, and then, yeah, I do think that like nukes were, like there's a peace treaty that he is not part of, because he's not part of the family, but that wasn't in the movie, so it didn't happen.
Matt (28:36.115)
Now, which is fine because I think at the end of the day it's fine because the good thing about atomics is everybody understands what they are, right? So you just be like, hey, we got atomics, so now we can scare them.
Luciano (28:36.246)
Hahaha!
Spencer (28:47.406)
Yeah, but I think like, like I'm guessing that in the books, it was more of a talking point. So when he finds out he has it, it's like, no, no, I'm not saying, I'm not saying this is what happened in the books. I didn't read it, but I'm saying in the movie, because they didn't have that part where they say everybody has them to set that up when he finds it. It's like what Luciano said. They say once he finds them, but like you said, it's a little too convenient. It's like, here are the nukes that everyone has. Let's use them.
Matt (28:53.651)
Hey, man.
Matt (28:58.131)
We're not.
Luciano (29:05.974)
They do say though, they do say in the movie. okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Matt (29:08.691)
Yeah.
Matt (29:13.875)
Yep.
Spencer (29:15.694)
Without setting that up, it's like, it just seems like...
Luciano (29:15.702)
I see what you mean. Yeah. It's very convenient. Yes.
Matt (29:21.587)
Thank you.
Spencer (29:22.286)
There, yeah. You're welcome.
Luciano (29:23.126)
It just killed the subject, okay.
Matt (29:24.819)
No, that's fine. The Atomics are probably a good point to segue into our major plot hole. There's a lot of weapons and tech shown in this movie, but it's all...
all over the place. And I wanna know...
Luciano (29:46.486)
Yeah.
Matt (29:50.483)
How weapons and tech do? How they do?
Luciano (29:53.366)
How very, what an eloquent question. Yeah, it's a...
Spencer (29:53.87)
How the... How they be doing?
Matt (29:58.771)
How'd they go?
Spencer (30:01.678)
I mean, that's a good question. I mean, I'm just going to say what I understood as someone who didn't really understand the movie. I watched the movie. I know they use swords and like primarily they all use swords because that can get by the shield. But I didn't see in the movie a lot of people stabbing through shields.
Matt (30:08.307)
Okay. Great. Did you watch the movie, Spencer? Okay.
Luciano (30:10.742)
Ha ha ha ha!
Matt (30:18.323)
Mm -hmm.
Matt (30:26.931)
that's because the shields had to be off because they attract the worms.
Spencer (30:30.254)
So then why aren't they using guns?
Matt (30:32.307)
because the guns attract the shields. No, no, the guns attract the shields. It's like rock, paper, scissors. Shields beat guns, guns beat worms, worms beat shields. I think that's how it works.
Spencer (30:34.19)
I see, I see. Okay. And this... W -W -W -W -W -W -W -W -W -W -W -W -W -W -W -W -W
Luciano (30:34.582)
Wait, what? I thought you were gonna say the guns also attract the worms, but...
I see.
Luciano (30:50.774)
Yeah, that's something we see in the movies that guns bit worms every time.
Matt (30:55.091)
Hahaha
Spencer (30:56.366)
You guys want to play Worm Rock? No, not Rock. God. Worm Guns Knife? Yeah, so that was confusing to me because I was like, I thought... I like the idea of like, you have to use swords because they are like the only thing that the shields can't block. But in the first one, I remember them like having to be like tactical with their stabbings. And then this one is just like...
Matt (31:01.107)
Yeah.
Luciano (31:01.814)
Warm shield lay - Warm shield gun. Yeah.
Luciano (31:23.83)
Yeah, and it's not like it doesn't immediately go through the shoot. You have to kind of push it through. Yeah.
Spencer (31:27.278)
No, you have to like get a point and then slowly go in and then like stab. And that was, I liked that a lot because it seems like it's like changes warfare. But in this it was just like, they're just like waving sword. He's just fucking ninja power rangering like all over the place.
Luciano (31:31.03)
Yeah.
Luciano (31:39.094)
Yeah, but then they had lasers. Where does lasers fall in the rock paper scissors of Wormshield Gun?
Spencer (31:44.334)
Yeah.
Matt (31:50.355)
Well, we don't know if they're, I'm gonna say this, we know they're lasers because of how they fire, but we never see a laser gun. So what if the Freiman just have like really sharp mirrors that they just reflect the sun and it's like a laser bolt. So it counts as being slow because it's sunlight, but it looks like a laser bolt.
Spencer (32:08.238)
Wait, why would light be slow?
Luciano (32:09.269)
Wait, sun... sunlight is slow? What?
Matt (32:11.283)
Compared to the shield's expectation of a bullet. Worth a shot.
Spencer (32:12.398)
Hehehe.
Luciano (32:16.47)
What? No! That's not... You said a bunch of words together. They didn't form a sentence.
Spencer (32:16.558)
But I'm pretty sure it's faster than a bullet. Compared to bullets, everything's low. OK, moving on. So, yeah, I think there are lasers and I think in the first movie they said that if someone gets a laser hits a shield, it creates like a huge explosion.
Matt (32:26.323)
Yeah, speed of light and speed of bullets is faster, trust me.
Luciano (32:31.318)
god.
Matt (32:33.523)
but they're light bullets, so it's like...
Spencer (32:46.158)
like of nuclear capabilities.
Luciano (32:46.67)
Yeah, why wouldn't you want that? Like just stay from afar, shoot someone with a laser and kill everybody.
Spencer (32:50.574)
That's what I thought, I thought -
That's what I thought they were gonna do, there's gonna be like a tactical use of that in the movie.
Matt (32:53.395)
Blagetium.
Matt (32:57.459)
Yeah, because the person in the shield is fine, right? Like...
Luciano (33:01.43)
No, the shoot explodes.
Spencer (33:01.486)
No, no, the shield itself is like overpowers.
Matt (33:04.659)
Well, let's stupid them because why would she - who gives a shit if you have a shield? Let's just fuckin' laser everybody with a shield, let them all explode.
Luciano (33:10.006)
Yeah, exactly. Yeah, no, it's yeah.
Spencer (33:12.078)
No, but it would kill, like everybody would kill you too, unless you're shooting from like, forever away.
Matt (33:14.203)
No!
Luciano (33:16.854)
Yeah, it's a laser you can shoot from like another continent or whatever.
Matt (33:20.179)
Look how far away they shot the lasers into those skull things, like that - they were fucking kilometers away.
Luciano (33:24.886)
Yeah.
Spencer (33:26.958)
I don't know. Lasers are too slow to get through shields. I think we used like you said, they're they're slower than bullets, so they work. Yeah, I mean that again, I just said what I understood from that movie and I clearly didn't understand a lot because it. It constantly all I know is throughout the whole movie I was wondering why aren't they using shields?
Luciano (33:27.862)
Ha!
Matt (33:29.363)
And this is the problem. How lasers do?
Luciano (33:30.262)
Yeah
Matt (33:38.707)
Yeah, fair enough.
Luciano (33:51.766)
Yeah, and like on the subject of weapons technology, which is a pretty cool scene. We see the first time that Paul fights with the Fremen when they're like doing the hide and seek beneath the legs of the huge excavator thing.
and they're like playing hide and seek with the mosquito choppers because they need to wait until they shoot, blah, blah, blah. And then they manage to take out the choppers and then it like zooms out and then you just see people with lasers from like three kilometers away slice the big thing in like, like, why just not shoot the mosquitoes with that? Like, yeah, or why send people under the thing that can squish them? Like, I don't understand.
Spencer (34:27.886)
in one shot or just open with that and just blow up the whole tank from the onset.
Matt (34:31.283)
Yeah, who cares?
Luciano (34:38.39)
I think they just know they don't know exactly how things work. So they're just playing by ear. I think that's what it is.
Matt (34:38.643)
Well, I'll -
Matt (34:43.091)
Well I would also point out that if the shields bring the worms, like the way they show those heads moving, that brings worms too right?
Spencer (34:53.39)
with heads.
Luciano (34:53.43)
What do you mean? What heads?
Matt (34:55.059)
Like the way the heads move, right? They have like the little feet that move and the big legs. Well, the clutches, but also like the big skull also has like a very similar thing where like it lifts up and they run in between things and it slams down and the little spider legs, right? Like that shit with alcohol worms. Yeah, so what?
Luciano (34:59.638)
I mean, like the collectors or whatever?
Luciano (35:07.574)
right, right, right. Yeah, yeah, that would definitely call worms. Yeah. It does in the first movie.
Spencer (35:15.662)
No, they're out of rhythm. They're out of rhythm. That's what that tappy thing is. It's to create like weird. Yeah. Cause that thing that taps the ground is like doing off pattern taps.
Matt (35:18.323)
so they're doing the sand walk? Yeah.
Matt (35:29.331)
Well, the collector is just knocking the spice up so they can collect it. It's not doing off pattern shit. Well, no, because basically all collectors have limited amount of time before our sandworm shows up. So, yeah.
Spencer (35:33.806)
I thought that's what I was doing.
Luciano (35:39.862)
Yeah, they showed it in the first movie.
Spencer (35:41.294)
yeah, that's true. So they're just biding time. I think, I think maybe the shields are like, like, like the walking will attract them, but I think this, the shields drive them like crazy.
Like they'll like, yeah, exactly. Exactly like that. And someone's gonna, and like the worms come in like, this is my favorite song. And they come in. Yeah. And then, yeah, I think that it just like, they just pop off. So, and I'm guessing when the shields are in the chopper, it's.
Matt (35:53.235)
like glow sticks at a rave.
Luciano (35:55.742)
Hahaha!
Luciano (36:04.342)
Listen again!
Matt (36:10.227)
Just an EDM version.
Luciano (36:12.47)
Yeah.
Spencer (36:21.614)
far enough from the ground that it doesn't attract them. And my only understanding of this that makes any sense is that there was a shield as well over the excavator and it was being powered from that chopper.
Luciano (36:23.382)
Yeah, yeah.
Matt (36:24.819)
Yeah, cause it...
Matt (36:35.251)
That would have made sense if they had a set of it. Yeah.
Luciano (36:35.446)
What?
Spencer (36:36.718)
That's my own explanation in my brain.
Luciano (36:41.494)
Well, it doesn't show that the excavator has any issues because they explode the sides and it just explodes. There's no like shoe thingy.
Matt (36:48.243)
No, but we're talking about the skull. Whatever the fuck the skull is there for. I have no idea what the skull does. It looks cool, but I'm not - Is it dangerous? What does it do? Fair enough.
Luciano (36:51.894)
Yeah, it looks cool. That's what it's there for. That's what it's there for. It's there to look cool.
Spencer (36:57.998)
It's a skull, of course it's dangerous! It's poisonous.
Matt (37:03.603)
But yeah, so like, don't, but like, so the skulls roll out and they're hunting and God knows what they're doing in there. But Spencer's right. Like they seem to kill the mosquito ships just because they're shooting the Fremen as they run under the ship. But I don't know why the Fremen attacked. Were they supposed to blow up the wheels? Is that, and then they hit laser them because it's moving too fast.
Spencer (37:03.694)
Do not eat the skull.
Spencer (37:28.046)
Wasn't looking like I was moving too fast, they were running with it.
Luciano (37:28.342)
That's what I understood, but then like it's a huge thing that moves pretty slowly and the lasers are really fast as we have established. Not as fast as bullets, not as fast as bullets, but still fast. Yeah.
Spencer (37:37.326)
No, no, the lasers are slow!
Matt (37:41.139)
Right. Yeah.
Spencer (37:43.054)
I mean, weren't they keeping pace with that thing on foot? You're saying the laser guys couldn't shoot it because it was moving too fast? They're like, I can't see it! It's moving too quick! You have to shoot like 20 feet in front of him to line up the shot.
Luciano (37:46.294)
Yeah, they were.
Matt (37:47.603)
Better run, but yes.
Luciano (37:51.19)
Hahaha!
Matt (37:54.323)
The lasers are slow, what can I tell you?
Luciano (37:56.246)
Notoriously, everybody knows. It's like the Dune equivalent of a bow and arrow. You have to anticipate.
Matt (38:00.659)
Yeah. Yeah.
Matt (38:05.491)
Yeah, there's a lot of drift and the drop distance on a laser.
Spencer (38:08.462)
Is there drop distance on light?
Luciano (38:08.63)
yeah, the infamous laser drift and drop. Yeah.
Matt (38:13.811)
Yeah. Yep. So many things to worry about. Yeah.
Spencer (38:14.114)
Gotta take account the curvature of the earth.
Luciano (38:19.126)
Of a rock is not the earth. Yeah.
Spencer (38:20.398)
Sorry, a Varacas.
Luciano (38:24.626)
No, yeah, I know. It was very like in the first movie, I thought it was was one of the more like consistent things. I was very interested, like Spencer said, that they had to like, they seem to have this whole new sort of martial technique to take into account that the shields were there. But then they just throw that away in the second movie. Just like a just knife everybody.
Matt (38:26.643)
So.
Matt (38:47.059)
The problem is, I'm gonna have to reference the book for a second here because this makes the point. Illegal, I know. But my understanding is in the book, from the book, the only people that had shields were nobles. It was for rich people. And when the movie put shields on all the spaceships and they dropped those bombs they have to slowly drill through to blow them up, it creates its own problems saying that anything and anybody can have a shield.
Luciano (38:52.854)
BOOOOM
Spencer (38:52.878)
illegal.
Luciano (39:02.358)
Right, right.
Matt (39:16.595)
Because if shields are only for nobles or only for a select group of people, then you basically don't have to worry about them. No.
Luciano (39:21.494)
Yeah, and clearly the Fremen never had any shields whatsoever. So, but like, if, if the ships have shields, but then do the ships shoot each, do we ever see ships shooting at each other in this movie or the other? Right.
Matt (39:37.491)
Well, they dropped those bombs from the first movie that have the drill, so you'd assume they would just use those in space. And then in which case, why have shields if everybody has the technology to get through the shields?
Luciano (39:41.878)
that's right. Yeah.
Spencer (39:46.766)
This is like rock, paper, shield all over again.
Luciano (39:47.286)
Yeah, there's also that. Yeah, we all have shoes that do nothing because everybody has lasers. Yeah.
Matt (39:49.139)
It's fucking yeah Yeah, why don't you make little guns and have those like little little bullets that little drills on them?
Spencer (39:58.286)
They had that in the first movie. Remember the he assassinates Oscar Isaac with that.
Matt (40:02.195)
Yeah, that's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't know, man.
Luciano (40:02.55)
yeah, that's true. So that's that.
Spencer (40:06.03)
So shields are useless and also imperative.
Luciano (40:09.246)
Yeah, it's useless and also impervious to any harm. So that's what I thought was weird because they did a good job in the first movie and it's like the Neville and Nev was like, nah, fuck it. Let's just do this. I want to see some blood.
Matt (40:09.491)
Impossible. Yeah. Imperative? Well, I guess I'm fair.
Spencer (40:23.054)
Yeah, like it's, and they didn't even really acknowledge it except for like the opening scene. He's like no shields. And they get shot. Which I'm like, well I guess you should have had your shields.
Luciano (40:34.518)
And then when when Fade Rotha fights in the in the triangular arena, he turns it on. And then when he fights the last guy, he turns it off.
Spencer (40:38.286)
in the arena.
Matt (40:39.699)
He turns it off. Yeah. Yeah, the undrugs at Trades. Yeah. And the little bird men try to help him.
Luciano (40:45.27)
Yeah.
Spencer (40:52.302)
I mean, I just think you should just be like, you can't have shields on Arrakis because the worms will just immediately eat the shit out of you. So there's just banned on the planet. Problem solved.
Matt (41:03.379)
Wow. I think you just have to make the shields special and unique, not make it so everything and everybody has a shield.
Luciano (41:11.382)
Yeah.
Spencer (41:12.238)
But then you go get back to the same problem then why doesn't everybody use guns?
Luciano (41:15.926)
And keep it consistent too is probably important.
Matt (41:16.691)
Whoa.
Yeah, well, it's part of the thing, right? There's no consistency. If you just said shields were for soldiers and soldiers only because of whatever value, then that explains why people have blades and don't carry guns because soldiers carry shields. Right. And I understand the idiocy of saying, hey, we made shields, but we stopped at people. But if there could be coal power ships and harvest moon, we can make anything happen. No, but like that's the thing, right? Like.
Luciano (41:33.846)
It's useless, yeah, yeah.
Spencer (41:42.286)
hahahahah
Luciano (41:43.862)
That is true.
Matt (41:48.819)
You can set the world up how you want it, but if you want everything and everybody to have shields, then why didn't they create a solution to shields, right? Like, you know, Star Wars has ion cannons that waste shields, right? Like...
Spencer (41:50.67)
Yes.
Luciano (42:00.406)
Or, or why, why? Yeah. Yeah. Why? Like if shields were so prevalent and also so powerful, how come the Fremen are even a problem? If they don't have. Yeah. But, but that's the thing. It wasn't really like the ships had shields. The, the, the, the little drill things had shields. Those don't attract, is that different kind of shield that doesn't attract? Worms?
Spencer (42:13.55)
because you can't use shields on Arrakis.
Spencer (42:27.662)
Listen, we're saying shield so much the word is losing its meaning in my ears.
Luciano (42:30.038)
It is, it is, yeah.
Matt (42:30.579)
Right? But that's the fundamental problem in the movie is that you create all this tech and you just throw it out because it looks cool, right? Which is fair, like, real cool, yeah, real cool always applies, but you didn't have to set up this world where then you did things that contradicted the world you set up. That's all.
Luciano (42:37.654)
Yeah, bullet time.
Spencer (42:49.486)
Yeah, it just seemed like in the movie they just kind of like, I feel like he was just like, I can't, it's, I've created this like paradox that I'm not gonna be able to solve. So just, I'm just not even gonna talk about it and I'm not gonna show it. You know, like some people have shields and they're just gonna turn them off when they want and that's it.
Luciano (43:00.598)
Yeah, I'm not gonna care. Yeah, yeah.
Matt (43:04.531)
No, just gone.
Yep. They're going to turn it off when it's complete, convened for the plot. And that's all there is.
Luciano (43:13.942)
Yep, that sounds about what he did. Yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (43:16.75)
Yeah, I think that's all he could do because of the rock -paper -shield situation.
Matt (43:21.235)
First of all, it's shields, lasers, worms.
Luciano (43:22.614)
Shoot warm gun. Shoot gun warm.
Spencer (43:23.278)
Shields, knife, gun. Yeah, sorry. What about knives? I thought knives were in there.
Matt (43:29.171)
No, no, no. They're not. That's an expanded version. We don't have time to explain it. Yeah. Yeah, and then we got a, it's weird. Knives, don't want to talk about it. Okay, no, I mean, I think that's really the only plot hole we found was just like the technology was applied and used very, very consistently.
Spencer (43:32.366)
That's the DLC.
Luciano (43:35.382)
Hahaha!
Luciano (43:46.038)
I...
I have a question that isn't related to the technology, but there might be a plot hole, but maybe you guys can explain it to me. And again, if the movie explains it, but like, so we see Paul learn how to ride the worms and then we see that other people ride the ones that's how they move from North to South. And that's how they attack the emperor's thing. How did they, like, how did they guide?
Matt (43:52.179)
Luciano (44:16.438)
the worms where they want the worms to go. Is it just the direction where the little thumper is?
Matt (44:21.139)
Pull left, pull right. No, you just get, you got the hooks, man.
Spencer (44:22.062)
No, no, no. No, I have a real answer.
Luciano (44:26.006)
Is a rudder? Like...
Matt (44:27.411)
Yeah.
Spencer (44:28.526)
No, you saw the thumper just attracts them. When he throws the hooks, it pulls up the little flap that is like their nostril. And then sand gets in it. So it.
Luciano (44:33.686)
Right.
Luciano (44:38.838)
it's like the things from on planes, whether you call them. Flaps, yeah, flaps. OK, I see. So worms are planes. Got it.
Matt (44:40.147)
Cough
Spencer (44:46.574)
So when it lifts that the flap, basically, and then when the sand gets in their little flaps, they don't like it, so they stay above the sand. So they let one flap go and then it'll drift onto that side, because it'll be able to put, that's exactly what Matt said, left and right hooks. Santa Claus logic.
Matt (44:49.555)
Yes.
Luciano (44:59.702)
I see. I see. Okay.
Matt (45:01.491)
That's what I said. The little hooks, pull left, pull right.
Luciano (45:04.318)
All right. Well, question answered. Thank you.
Matt (45:13.203)
Welcome, nice try. No plot holes here. Well, that's fine because humans are slower than lasers. Yeah. Yeah, correct. It all makes sense. Let's, yeah, let's ask some questions. Let's make more sense of this movie. So where should we start? Let's just go right to the meat of the issue.
Spencer (45:13.614)
Now what if a worm had a shield? Sorry.
Luciano (45:16.63)
It would explode.
Spencer (45:21.582)
than light. Than light.
Luciano (45:21.878)
They can pass through this, it's true. Slower than bullets.
Luciano (45:30.166)
Does it now? Alright.
Spencer (45:34.702)
Okay.
Matt (45:45.715)
Paul Atreides. How is he the real villain of this movie?
Luciano (45:50.55)
Let's see. So he manipulates a bunch of... He's a white man. Let's start with that. Am I wrong?
Spencer (45:50.926)
I mean, I don't think it's that much of a stretch.
Spencer (45:59.894)
Hey.
You're not wrong.
Matt (46:03.963)
I'm not sure that's his fault, but I'll allow it.
Spencer (46:08.814)
What's the planet he's from again? The water planet? Caledon Power! That's what it feels like.
Luciano (46:09.11)
No, no, no, he... Kelly, Kelly, then.
Matt (46:17.043)
It's a trade, he's power.
Luciano (46:17.206)
no. Yeah. Trade is power. Yeah. And he uses his position as noble and as allegedly listen, Al -Ghaib, to manipulate a bunch of Middle Eastern, I'm sorry, Fremen people.
Spencer (46:34.478)
And get out of here!
Matt (46:37.619)
Ha ha ha.
Luciano (46:45.238)
to do his bidding.
Matt (46:48.083)
People of lower intelligence, perhaps? Less life experience?
Luciano (46:50.966)
don't I
Spencer (46:52.75)
Are you saying he used the power of white privilege to take over a...
Luciano (46:55.094)
Yes, to take over a less developed society, yes.
Spencer (47:02.206)
they're less developed now? Wow.
Matt (47:02.259)
Okay. Wow. Wow. I can't say they're not as intelligent, but you can say they're less developed. Okay, let's see how it is. Fair enough.
Luciano (47:04.47)
yeah. They are. They don't even have shields. They don't even have shields.
Spencer (47:13.806)
I think they're more developed.
Luciano (47:13.814)
Yeah.
Spencer (47:18.062)
culturally.
Matt (47:20.115)
You didn't even go to the easy part. He fucking shacks up with Johnny, says he loves her and he'll always be with her, and then the first minute a hot girl comes along he's like, I'm gonna marry this bitch.
Luciano (47:29.686)
Not even, not even hotter girl. It's a, it's a whiter girl that is, that has money. Yeah, exactly.
Spencer (47:30.158)
The hotter girl.
Matt (47:32.691)
Not even harder just it's a wider girl like more like more prestige. Yeah
Spencer (47:38.606)
Yeah, yeah, he, he went for the bag. As the kid said, he went for the bag and he's, he's manipulating a culture to create a holy army to, you said a stupid, yeah, I'm saying it coquedly.
Luciano (47:41.814)
Yeah.
Matt (47:42.323)
Yeah, 100%.
Luciano (47:54.294)
That's what I said. That's what I said.
Matt (47:56.467)
Nah, you said it stupidly, Spencer's saying it cool.
Luciano (47:58.742)
No, I said exactly the same thing, you motherfucker!
Matt (48:01.075)
No, no, it's way better than Spencer saying it. Let him cook.
Spencer (48:02.99)
with the goal though of starting a holy religious war to bring to the stars. He's a space terrorist.
Matt (48:13.043)
Space Jesus.
Spencer (48:14.254)
No, if Jesus was a terrorist. I mean, he is like an allegory or whatever for Jesus, but Jesus, I don't think ever wanted to start a war to like spread to his religion. I mean, it's pretty clear he didn't want that. They just, they did that. I mean,
Luciano (48:14.422)
Yes, not Jesus though.
Matt (48:18.003)
How's he not Jesus?
Matt (48:30.004)
Hey Spencer? If Jesus didn't want a war, what the fuck were the Crusades?
Luciano (48:34.806)
What?
my god, my god.
Matt (48:37.907)
Let me hit and walk that
Luciano (48:43.51)
He never said he didn't want that. Never. Jesus has never said, don't do the crusades, ever.
Spencer (48:45.102)
I'm not getting into, you know, the -
Matt (48:48.211)
Yeah, yeah.
Spencer (48:49.454)
That's true. He never said those words. He never said, he never said, don't do the crusades. I mean, check him made, I guess. I mean, I think that like the crusades are like an alley, like are similar to like what Paul's doing. And Jesus would be, you know, not a big fan. I say it's a Jewish person who knows nothing about that religion.
Matt (48:52.083)
So here go.
Luciano (48:52.182)
Hahaha!
Matt (49:01.171)
Yeah.
Luciano (49:01.238)
Hahaha!
Luciano (49:13.878)
Yeah, because you know, because you know, he's a Jewish bro like like we are. Yeah.
Spencer (49:19.182)
Yeah, yeah, that's right. Word.
Matt (49:22.707)
So Jesus just didn't say anything.
Spencer (49:26.318)
I mean, I think he said, don't kill.
Luciano (49:26.582)
about the crusades. No, that was the Bible.
Spencer (49:31.15)
Goddamn, I mean, sorry. That was Moses?
Luciano (49:32.15)
Hahaha!
Matt (49:32.307)
That was the 10 commandments. Jesus wasn't involved with that strictly. Yeah.
Spencer (49:37.646)
didn't, didn't Jesus say, don't be hatin'? Okay, see? That I got right.
Matt (49:38.579)
through God or God through Moses.
Luciano (49:44.022)
Yeah, he did. He did say that. He did say that.
Matt (49:44.531)
Famously, famously he did.
But if you're searching for the holy grail, sight.
Luciano (49:51.734)
That's okay, then it's okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (49:52.766)
I believe is what he said. Okay, so But he's much like Jesus. He's the villain of the story But like yeah, I mean I might be and he is the villain like I don't even think that's it's like open to the movie ends with him starting a Crusade a holy crusade into the stars
Matt (49:55.603)
Yeah.
Luciano (50:01.494)
Said the Jewish man. Yeah.
Matt (50:03.259)
That we can agree on.
Matt (50:17.619)
I mean, technically the Baron Harkonnen is the villain.
Luciano (50:21.718)
Yeah, well, all of the Harkonnen.
Spencer (50:22.574)
No, he's the antagonist.
Matt (50:25.203)
The Harkons fucking conduct genocide.
Luciano (50:27.702)
Yeah.
Spencer (50:29.262)
But isn't that what Paul's trying to do? Not genocide, no, he's trying to just conquer.
Luciano (50:31.798)
No.
Matt (50:31.959)
Technically, no.
Matt (50:36.659)
Yes.
Spencer (50:38.734)
Does he kill his non -believers? Do they have to believe in Paul?
Luciano (50:42.294)
No. Yeah.
Matt (50:42.387)
Paul didn't kill any non -believer, there was a ton of non -believer, non -believing Fremen.
Spencer (50:46.766)
Alright, that's true. He's more of like an Alexander the Great.
And that guy was famously nice.
Matt (50:57.395)
There's more!
Luciano (50:58.07)
Jesus Christ.
Matt (51:00.435)
More King Arthur.
Luciano (51:02.038)
Well...
Matt (51:03.603)
and his mom's Merlin.
Spencer (51:05.326)
Okay.
Luciano (51:05.942)
you actually you're not far off. But then but then it's a reverse thing with Lancelot and Guinevere. He's also Guinevere.
Matt (51:08.691)
Yeah. And then,
Matt (51:14.035)
Yeah, he's going well. I was going to say, cause doesn't he have a kid with Morgan Le Fay?
Luciano (51:23.19)
Arthur does, yeah.
Spencer (51:24.59)
Who's Alan Rickman?
Matt (51:24.627)
Yeah, so then...
Luciano (51:26.518)
HAHAHAHA
Spencer (51:28.302)
Heheheheh
Matt (51:31.955)
There's another wizard, Severus Snape. I think we can tie this all together. Yeah. All right, no. Yeah, yeah, exactly. We've nailed it. Let's move on from this question. We got a lot out of it. Who knows? Hey,
Spencer (51:34.734)
Okay, yeah, alright.
Luciano (51:37.43)
That's the Reverend Mother is Snape.
Luciano (51:42.518)
Please, because I don't know where it went.
Matt (51:50.611)
So, I don't know how to ask this. Okay, I'll just say it as it is. Our good buddy, Stilgar, he's a believer. Believes in everything, apparently. If Stilgar was on Earth, which celebrity do you think he would believe is Gleeson Al -Kaib?
Luciano (52:00.214)
Yes.
Spencer (52:00.238)
Mm -hmm.
Luciano (52:13.224)
Listen up guys!
Spencer (52:14.222)
RAHEHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAHRAH
Luciano (52:17.206)
Tom Cruise.
Spencer (52:19.062)
you think he'd be a Scientologist.
Luciano (52:20.534)
yeah, a hundred percent. Just like a devout one. And you know, every time Tom Cruise jumped up on Oprah's like sofa or did some other weird shit or ran on the movie, you'd say, see, he is running. Of course. Yeah.
Spencer (52:32.59)
He'd be like, see, he's Lisa Nakaiw! Only Lisa Nakaiw would jump on the couch of Oprah.
Matt (52:39.731)
I do, I have a follow up question here. Do you think Stilgar would understand television enough to separate Tom Cruise the person from the characters Tom Cruise plays in the movie?
Luciano (52:50.294)
And I'm the racist.
Matt (52:53.011)
Well, it does nothing to do with racism.
Luciano (52:54.039)
Yeah, it does. You're saying that the Middle Eastern man wouldn't understand TV. Is that what you're saying?
Spencer (52:56.078)
Hey, he -
Matt (52:58.355)
I'm saying that no one... no one...
Spencer (52:59.694)
He's not Middle Eastern, he's Fremen! He's from a space planet called Arrakis!
Matt (53:04.659)
They barely have televisions anywhere on Arrakis. Where would you have seen one?
Spencer (53:09.262)
Yeah, they don't have television in this universe.
Luciano (53:09.91)
They don't even, isn't it a thing that they had, they don't have computers because there was like some shit that happened in the past?
Spencer (53:17.038)
Yeah, there was like, no, there was like a... No, AI was trying to take over, so they banned all computers.
Matt (53:17.075)
I don't know, just spice does all the things.
Luciano (53:19.574)
Spice the soda things.
Matt (53:21.843)
Yeah.
Luciano (53:27.286)
I think Stilgar would think that because he's on TV that shows that he's Lisan Al -Ghaib. Only Lisan Al -Ghaib would be on this magical box, I think.
Spencer (53:40.558)
So yeah, I'm in the similar vein. Unfortunately, I think Stilgar would be a big Trump supporter.
Matt (53:46.451)
god.
Luciano (53:46.903)
hahahahah
Spencer (53:48.398)
Think you just hear him talk and he'd be like, you know Trump would be like I'm the greatest there is the greatest has ever been if anyone's Lisa now gave it to me
Matt (53:58.739)
What still got our mistake trumped for a sandworm?
Luciano (53:59.158)
Wait.
Spencer (54:01.518)
It's me, your beloved sandworm. That's actually a clip I saw, I gotta shout out. I don't know who it is, but someone took a clip and it's Trump's voice over the worm. The worm's name is, there's a name for the worm, it's like Shahab, Shahabeeb or something.
Matt (54:04.403)
I'm sorry.
Luciano (54:05.238)
Hahaha!
Matt (54:15.059)
Ha ha ha.
Luciano (54:21.27)
Shah Shahhood Shahood or whatever. Yeah.
Spencer (54:24.078)
Yeah. And it's like, hello, it's me, your beloved sandworm, Shahabeeb. He's like, you're going to hear a lot about these pesky Paul, this Paul Atreides. He's a loser. It's so good. So find that and watch it. But I think Stolgar would buy into, I don't think he, he seems very gullible. And I think Trump's methods prey on the vulnerable, not the vulnerable, on the gullible quite easily.
Luciano (54:28.886)
Hahaha!
Matt (54:29.235)
Ha ha ha.
Luciano (54:36.406)
yeah.
Matt (54:51.187)
So Stelgar is a Republican, which you're telling me.
Spencer (54:52.878)
He's wearing a MAGA hat and yeah, and he's talking about he's anti -immigrants from, you know, from, from off world. Yeah.
Luciano (54:59.83)
no, from Arrakis, from Arrakis! His anti -immigrants from Arrakis, the dis -Arrakians.
Matt (55:00.819)
Off world. Yeah. Yep.
Spencer (55:06.35)
No, he's pro no, Iraqis is the home world. He's against immigrants of. that's true. Yeah, he got in, but he's like, you know, he's the guy kicked the ladder from behind him kind of mentality. I got mine. So.
Luciano (55:09.206)
No, no, he immigrated to the United States.
Luciano (55:15.638)
Exactly. Exactly. That's exactly it. Yeah.
Matt (55:21.395)
Okay. Yeah, I don't, I don't want to, I don't want to be here anymore. Yeah, that's fair.
Luciano (55:23.702)
So I think either of those people, either Trump or Tom Cruise.
Spencer (55:26.446)
He'd call him, he'd call him Cheeto Al -Gaib.
It doesn't even work.
Matt (55:31.923)
worst.
Luciano (55:34.39)
No, it doesn't.
Matt (55:34.803)
It does not. Let's start with the sand worms and get off this topic. The sand worms are, I know not all planes because they don't fly, but they're buses, trains if you will, and subways. The Fremen, but like subways go underground and these ones.
Luciano (55:48.502)
Yeah, subways. Subways. It was right there, man.
Spencer (55:49.102)
Subways, yeah.
Luciano (55:55.382)
And they come out too. They come out when you hook them on their flaps.
Spencer (55:55.47)
So do worms.
Matt (55:59.667)
Fair enough. I'll have to try this sometime. Light rail, if you will. Anyways, And the fremen... fuckin... When they get on, like when they travel to the... what's the south? And they go through the sandstorm wall, whatever it is. They have so much shit on the sandworm. Like Jessica's traveling in like a little pod. They got boxes and crates of food and god knows what. How do they get all that shit on and off the sandworm? Because the sandworm, as far as I can tell...
Luciano (56:03.638)
Okay.
Luciano (56:10.998)
Yeah.
Luciano (56:24.47)
Children!
Matt (56:29.363)
does not stop moving. It's not like next stop fucking fremen town and fucking eases up coming around the corner.
Spencer (56:36.238)
of Freeman town.
Luciano (56:37.43)
Next stop, fundamentalistation. Yeah, yeah, that's a good question.
Matt (56:41.523)
Yeah.
Spencer (56:44.046)
That's it. You know what? I'm glad you asked that question because I actually was wondering that too. And he did. I saw an interview with the director, Denis Villeneuve, and he did say he's like, there is an explanation for how they get off the worms. But he's like, I'm not going to tell you, which was just kind of made me feel like there is not an explanation because he never filmed it. And that's not even that's just getting off like if you were just, you know, Paul writing it. But.
Luciano (57:01.31)
Yeah, exactly. I was going to say that's what you say when you're like, fuck, I didn't think of that.
Spencer (57:14.08)
That's a good point when they have like stuff on it or they just, yeah. They just, I imagine they're just like, huh? Hucking the boxes off and they got to walk back and get it. And then tuck and roll.
Luciano (57:16.694)
like old people and yeah.
Luciano (57:29.206)
But also like the worms are going straight at the city. How did they make this worms just not go just straight through the city?
Spencer (57:37.774)
Well they turn it, we already told you, the flap system.
Matt (57:40.115)
Yeah.
Luciano (57:41.206)
And then they jump as it's turning? Okay.
Spencer (57:44.142)
Yeah, once it's turned and it starts going in the opposite way, to pivot. It slows to pivot. That's a good point, Matt.
Matt (57:46.739)
It slows down. As you turn, it slows down a bit, right? Yep. Yep.
Luciano (57:48.662)
I -
It slows the pivot and then everybody just jumps.
Spencer (57:54.798)
You think if they turn hard enough, it can crash into its own body and stop itself? Lightly concussing the worm.
Luciano (57:59.574)
S
Matt (58:03.283)
Yeah, but wouldn't, wouldn't, but wouldn't everybody also just fall off?
Luciano (58:07.67)
fly off. Yeah.
Spencer (58:08.91)
I mean yeah, but you have to have it got off. That's off.
Matt (58:12.371)
fair.
Luciano (58:15.158)
It's a non -renewable resource then, worms, if you keep damaging them every time.
Matt (58:15.507)
Okay.
Spencer (58:18.99)
I mean, I know we said we wouldn't talk about the books, but I do think that in the books they said that the worms just get tired and eventually they just slow down and then you get off. But then it's like what you get off just when they're tired and hope it's close to your destination.
Luciano (58:32.662)
I mean, that makes sense, more sense than I was expecting.
Luciano (58:39.19)
Yeah, like you gotta get a slightly elderly worm to ride in the middle of the fucking desert. I'm done.
Spencer (58:44.91)
Yeah, yeah, we're only going 15 minutes due West maybe get on old Betty over there the worms like
Luciano (58:52.598)
The ride is more comfortable, but it doesn't take you all the way.
Matt (58:52.883)
Hahaha.
Spencer (58:58.254)
Yeah.
Matt (58:58.963)
So then it's not an express train to the south. You gotta hit like 16 different connections.
Spencer (59:01.902)
Hey
Spencer (59:05.87)
Yeah.
Luciano (59:06.23)
Yeah, you have to stop at a terminal, wait for the next one...
Spencer (59:08.718)
Yeah. You can take old Betty down to old Jimmy. Old Jimmy's going to take you all the way down. Now, if you want to take the Express, you take young old Clifford. He'll take you all the way, but you will die. You will die or you'll get there fast. That's another good idea. Like a parachute.
Luciano (59:13.398)
Hahaha!
Yeah.
Luciano (59:22.07)
Yeah, yeah, pack a parachute, pack a parachute for when you need to get off.
Matt (59:23.123)
will.
Luciano (59:31.99)
and just step off and open the parachute.
Spencer (59:34.318)
You know, you just throw up the parachute when you're like on it and it'll just like, it's going fast enough. It'll just like eject you into the air kind of.
Luciano (59:40.726)
Eject, yeah, okay. That works.
Matt (59:43.475)
That's a stupid answer. Moving on. Paul gets the Benny Jesoret sexy bedroom voice. And he uses it only once when he... Yeah, that's what we're calling him. He uses it only once when he tells the... The... Reverend Mother for the emperor to shut up. Yeah. But like... What else? Like when Paul realizes he's got the voice, what else is he using?
Luciano (59:53.398)
Is that what we're calling it? Okay.
Luciano (01:00:01.238)
Reverend Mother.
Spencer (01:00:03.566)
He says, SILENCE!
Luciano (01:00:04.726)
So... Abomination!
Luciano (01:00:13.846)
Hmm.
Spencer (01:00:14.894)
Does he have to scream or is that just like in that one part?
Luciano (01:00:19.222)
No, I think he just because Jessica uses it all day that happens is like the voice gets deeper, but it's not doesn't have to be a scream. She uses in this one too, a couple of times. He only uses it once.
Spencer (01:00:25.422)
yeah, like in the first movie he uses it, right?
Spencer (01:00:31.662)
Yeah, she's like, she's like, take it.
Luciano (01:00:35.062)
Yeah, and she does it like, she uses it, I know you asked about PO, but fuck it. She uses it in the stupidest way because people are already going to do what she says to do and she uses it and he was like, go find it. It's like, I was going already. Like what? Yeah. Why does he use it for? Hmm.
Spencer (01:00:48.302)
I was going, God! Relax!
Luciano (01:00:59.638)
Probably to demand Chani. he uses it once on Chani, I think. Wait, wait, wait. He uses it more than once. He uses it on Chani as well. Yeah, right before they go into the battle there, I don't remember what it was now, but she doesn't want to do something, and he tells her to do it, and she does it, and he uses the voice. So clearly, he asks.
Spencer (01:01:04.11)
to demand Johnny. I don't like where you go with this. Does he?
Spencer (01:01:21.038)
Wow, riveting. What a great recap.
Matt (01:01:22.579)
No, no, I know what it was. It's when he needs her to help him take the worm juice.
Luciano (01:01:31.798)
that's right. Yes, yes.
Matt (01:01:34.579)
But it wasn't, no, he didn't use it, her mom used it on her.
Luciano (01:01:37.27)
No, he uses it. Maybe, whatever. Let me ask you, let me answer your question. He uses it to force Chinese to draw him a bath.
Matt (01:01:41.299)
It was Jessica. Yeah.
Spencer (01:01:48.59)
Thank just you saved it in the end there. Okay. I was really not going to lie. You had us in the first half.
Luciano (01:01:51.542)
Yeah
Matt (01:01:51.667)
I was really concerned that your answer wouldn't be just...
Luciano (01:01:57.942)
What else did he use it for?
Matt (01:02:00.691)
You know what, maybe you take a seat on this one while Spencer have a go.
Luciano (01:02:03.286)
Well, yeah, that's what I'm doing.
Spencer (01:02:03.598)
I think he uses it to like just tell the Fremen who clearly think he's like a lame white kid from the fucking suburbs that he's cool.
He's like, no guys, I'm down with it. And they're like, okay. And he's like, no, no, I'm down with it. And they're like, this guy's all right.
Matt (01:02:16.819)
He just...
Matt (01:02:22.067)
Ha ha ha.
Luciano (01:02:22.294)
Hahaha!
Spencer (01:02:26.126)
I'm not a loser. Yeah. Yeah.
Matt (01:02:27.699)
It feels very Batman -y if I'm honest.
Luciano (01:02:28.086)
Yeah, I was gonna say I was gonna say, where's the Joker?
Spencer (01:02:33.166)
And I, my hair is cool, tell me.
Luciano (01:02:37.206)
Ha ha!
Matt (01:02:38.899)
Ha ha ha.
Spencer (01:02:39.726)
Tell me I have nice hair. Where are the drugs?
Matt (01:02:45.075)
Okay, now that makes some sense.
Spencer (01:02:47.918)
I mean otherwise why would they accept him? He's pretty lame.
Luciano (01:02:51.478)
I mean, the movie spends a considerable amount of time showing why, but okay. No, it's the voice. Accept me! Okay.
Spencer (01:02:55.47)
No, no, no. He just said.
EXCITING ME I'M COOL MY MOM SAYS I'M HANDSOME
Matt (01:03:02.899)
Ha ha.
Luciano (01:03:06.294)
I'm pretty fly for a white guy.
Matt (01:03:06.483)
Hahaha
no, those are all great answers. Thank you for answering. Let's talk about the gin. Stilgar, when Stilgar sends Paul out into the desert to do God knows what, he tells him not to listen to the gins. And he's joking, but we're not quite sure if he's actually joking.
Spencer (01:03:31.214)
Is he joking? Because don't you then see Jameis? For a second.
Luciano (01:03:36.086)
Jummies wasn't a gin, I think.
Matt (01:03:38.163)
Yeah, he was just a dead guy. Listen, I don't care about that.
Spencer (01:03:38.574)
I think the Jumis was a representation of the gym.
Luciano (01:03:42.582)
I don't care about your stupid theories.
Spencer (01:03:43.31)
I don't care about this movie. Okay, sorry. Okay.
Matt (01:03:46.515)
Now I want to ask my question. What... I assume the Jinns are real. So I guess, yeah, he saw a Jinn. There, thank you. Good segue, Spencer. The Jinns are real. What does the Jin do to people when he finds them in the Dunes? Two.
Spencer (01:03:54.318)
Thank you. Thank you.
Luciano (01:04:02.166)
Hmm, because it says not to listen to the gin, right?
Spencer (01:04:03.822)
Hit the dudes too? Okay.
Luciano (01:04:09.11)
Hmm.
Matt (01:04:09.491)
Correct.
Luciano (01:04:12.374)
I don't know. Tells him to...
eat the sand because there's spice in it? I don't know.
Spencer (01:04:23.95)
riveting stuff.
Matt (01:04:24.211)
You know, we prep the show ahead of time and yet still somehow.
Luciano (01:04:27.286)
Yeah, I forgot. I forgot. I'll be honest. I forgot about this question.
Matt (01:04:33.971)
It seems like you're not prepared for the questions we're gonna ask.
Luciano (01:04:36.534)
I was not.
Spencer (01:04:38.126)
I mean, if you said to get him to smoke more space crack, then I would have been on board, because that's...
Matt (01:04:41.747)
You
Luciano (01:04:45.046)
There you go, you just had it. That's a good one. Let's go with it.
Spencer (01:04:48.654)
He provides like a glass pipe, the gin. And he's like, the first smoke this, the first one's free.
Matt (01:04:53.619)
Smoke this.
Yeah, I didn't.
Luciano (01:04:57.366)
so he's a gin and a crack dealer at the same time.
Spencer (01:05:00.142)
He says, first of all, he's a spice dealer. Very respectable profession.
Matt (01:05:01.619)
Yeah, the chins like, yeah. He's like, I don't know, let's get wet.
Luciano (01:05:06.486)
My bad. My bad.
Spencer (01:05:07.598)
I'm just a ghost, but I know you like to get wet. Let's get with the angels Yeah, I think that he the Jen's main goal is
Luciano (01:05:17.394)
Does it call the spice gin dust?
like angel dust, but ginger. There's a, no I won't. Usually I'm the one asking to leave, but I'm not going this time. Yeah.
Spencer (01:05:23.214)
There's a door. There's a door. I insist you take it. I insist you use it.
Matt (01:05:23.603)
No, just, just.
Spencer (01:05:32.27)
No, he calls it gin and juice.
Luciano (01:05:35.286)
That was, that was, that wasn't better! That wasn't better! It was not! It was not. It's just that mine was so bad that anything is bad.
Matt (01:05:35.315)
See, that's how a professional does it. It was, trust me. Yeah, it was.
Spencer (01:05:38.382)
It was better. Well, that's called comedic timing. You follow the bomb.
Matt (01:05:43.891)
Well, yep.
You're the straight man. I'm not sure where you are. Yeah. Fair enough. We're moving ahead. Moving forward. Never stopping. Why are the Fremen so very good at killing?
Luciano (01:05:48.31)
Okay.
Luciano (01:05:52.246)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:06:00.078)
Yeah, this actually confused me because they just keep saying they're like, they grew up in the harsh lands of the, of Arrakis. So they're the ultimate killing machines. And I'm like, I understand why that would make them really good at surviving Arrakis.
Luciano (01:06:18.134)
Yeah, like being survivors is one thing, but why are they so good at killing?
Spencer (01:06:21.422)
Why are they like karate champions?
Luciano (01:06:25.366)
Is that what they are?
Spencer (01:06:26.382)
Well, that's what they look like. They're like, they're like doing crazy, like martial arts. If it's not, it is now. Yeah, they're there. I'm not going to use Matt's terms, but they're sand assassins. That it doesn't it just feels better. And.
Matt (01:06:26.611)
Parkour.
Matt (01:06:32.115)
Sand Ninja? Was that racist? It felt racist as I said it. Yeah, all right.
Luciano (01:06:34.582)
Yeah, it is definitely, it's definitely racist.
Luciano (01:06:46.186)
That's not much better. It doesn't. Yeah, it's right. Yeah.
Matt (01:06:49.491)
Yeah, yeah, but it doesn't feel as racist. I got to be honest with you.
Spencer (01:06:56.398)
Yeah, I mean, I guess the reason why is they, they do kill each other, right? Because the, that.
Matt (01:07:05.235)
Sure, there is that rite of passage, right, to become leader, you can declare, you know, single combat. But like, I don't know, it doesn't speak to them being like ultimate fighting champions, right?
Spencer (01:07:18.446)
Ha ha ha!
Luciano (01:07:18.454)
And they have a word specifically for the fighters too, right? The Fadaikan. So, we don't ever see them train, do we?
Matt (01:07:29.235)
Not really. I mean, to some degree they're obviously good at fighting because they've been fighting the Harkonnens for years and they're always fighting. Yeah, that's the thing I don't understand. And then the emperor sends the Sarkar, the Sarkar are supposed to be his elite troopers, right? He loans them to the Harkonnen to complete this mission. So they're obviously, in theory, better fighters than the standard Harkonnen fighter.
Luciano (01:07:29.718)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:07:35.95)
But why are they so much better at that than our Conan's so much better than everybody?
Spencer (01:07:54.286)
Yeah, like it would make sense if they were like using like which they kind of do some of the time they use the land and they use their the techniques of Arrakis to be to like surprise them and stuff. But then they actually just beat him in straight up like hand to hand combat all the time. And that part doesn't maybe they do have their you said they're not like ultimate fighters. Maybe they have like a. Like a fight, yeah, like a UFC League. Maybe there's a Conor McGregor of Arrakis. there he is.
Luciano (01:08:15.542)
like a UFC type thing.
Luciano (01:08:20.822)
Hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot,
Spencer (01:08:24.11)
So much and he's like I'm a fucking king of Arrakis you're fucking losers Sorry, I can't do it Luciano. You do it better do it. Who's the other that's Carter McGregor?
Matt (01:08:25.363)
Ha ha ha ha!
Luciano (01:08:34.39)
Hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot. Yeah. I think you're onto something. I think they have some secret fighting ring somewhere where if you can beat up Post Malone, then that's where it starts.
Spencer (01:08:56.878)
There are levels to this game and he's the bottom level. maybe, maybe the deep dark secret of the Fremen is that they fight to the death and they can only survive because they extract the blood from all the people who die. And that blood is the, what the liquid they live off.
Luciano (01:08:58.934)
Yes.
Luciano (01:09:15.158)
Yeah, they don't, but they don't drink it.
Matt (01:09:16.531)
But if, okay, okay. But let me ask you this. No, but they're like, Jamis is sacred and we don't put him back into the water pool.
Spencer (01:09:20.27)
Maybe they do.
Spencer (01:09:24.558)
Yeah, because he, yeah, he's sacred because he won his ultimate fighting, ultimate Fremen championship title season one. Yeah.
Matt (01:09:32.851)
season one.
Luciano (01:09:33.686)
Yeah, and they don't extract, they don't extract his water and then he becomes a djinn. I thought this was established.
Matt (01:09:41.491)
That was Better Luciano. Thank you for finally coming around.
Spencer (01:09:44.718)
It's all, yeah.
Luciano (01:09:44.886)
You're welcome. You're welcome. It's all coming together.
Spencer (01:09:48.142)
Yeah, it's like rock, paper, scissors. Ultimate fighting, ultimate frontman championship, gin, worm.
Matt (01:09:57.587)
Moving on, if we're gonna, if we're talking about Altman Fremen championships, UFC.
Luciano (01:10:00.278)
Listen, I'm going!
Spencer (01:10:06.862)
Yep.
Luciano (01:10:07.51)
Nice! Well done. I don't listen when you speak. I don't listen when you speak.
Spencer (01:10:09.614)
Wait, that's what I've been saying the whole time! Matt says it once, it's a good one! Alright, I respect it.
Matt (01:10:09.683)
Let's also, yeah.
Matt (01:10:15.923)
You're welcome. We need to talk about the Harkonnen Murder Arena. Specifically, those creepy bird men who like are in the wall and then just pop out to shrink the arena, but also to help Phaedra.
Spencer (01:10:23.246)
yeah.
Luciano (01:10:29.974)
You
Luciano (01:10:34.038)
Right.
Matt (01:10:35.187)
How do you get to be one?
Luciano (01:10:37.43)
Huh.
Spencer (01:10:37.774)
Like how do you apply for that job?
Matt (01:10:39.443)
Yeah, well, get accepted.
Spencer (01:10:41.614)
Well, I do you guys remember that weird scene in the first movie where there's that weird creature with like hands for limbs? There's like one scene. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
Luciano (01:10:51.286)
I mean, you mean, hands for limbs?
Matt (01:11:01.715)
Got two actually, yeah.
Luciano (01:11:02.23)
Do you know those creatures who have arms for arms and legs for legs?
has a head on top of its shoulders? So freaky.
Matt (01:11:12.051)
Fucking weird.
Spencer (01:11:12.062)
I'm looking of a picture to describe it. You guys talk amongst yourselves.
Matt (01:11:18.835)
Okay, thank you. I think...
Luciano (01:11:21.942)
Do you think they have to be like Harkonnen or are they exclusively not Harkonnen?
Matt (01:11:27.443)
I think you have to be exactly one quarter Harkona. So just a little bit. I think it's always from your mother's side based on how I understand culture works. Basically, the Benny Gesserits bang everybody. That's what I understand. Yeah. So at least a quarter, no more, no less. Quarter Harkona. And then...
Luciano (01:11:31.478)
Okay, from your mother, your mother's side or your dad's side? Yeah. Okay. Okay.
Luciano (01:11:44.758)
Clearly, we've seen that in the movie, yes.
Luciano (01:11:51.222)
Mm -hmm.
Matt (01:11:56.211)
What happens is, is they sort of chain you up as a sort of slave and you need to escape and ride a hippogriff like creature through a canyon, fall off of him for some reason, but still run and grab onto it. Yeah. And then when you're victorious, you're a freely joined the bird crew and the person who looks after the bird kills it because it's mad at it.
Luciano (01:12:11.062)
and then grab onto it again. Right, right. So you have to be very light.
I see.
Luciano (01:12:23.83)
Hmm and is it a very well -paying job or is it late?
Spencer (01:12:25.344)
I only heard Hippogriff.
Matt (01:12:30.899)
I mean like... You get like a -
Spencer (01:12:32.814)
You get paid in exposure. You get paid in exposure.
Luciano (01:12:32.968)
Or is it an honor? Is it just the honor? You're pitting exposure. Okay. Cause you're always in the arena, right?
Matt (01:12:36.531)
Yeah, you're explaining exposure because you can go around town. Yeah, you can go around town. You got like a little bird insignia on your black clothes. Yeah. Yeah, it's a black bird insignia on your white forehead. So everybody knows you're cool.
Luciano (01:12:43.67)
forehead on your forehead.
Spencer (01:12:51.439)
knows you're cool. Just to show, I'm showing the guys, but I'm going to describe this to the audience. There was a creature in the first movie. It looks like a spider, but it has like a human head and it has hands for limbs, but it has like six.
Matt (01:13:10.867)
Well, it has limbs that have hands at the end of them, but it looks like a spider.
Spencer (01:13:14.542)
That's normal.
Luciano (01:13:14.646)
It looks like a spider who has human hands is how you should have described it.
Matt (01:13:18.675)
Yes, there you go. Yep, there we go. We did it.
Spencer (01:13:21.038)
Yes, that is accurate. So I think that they breed.
Luciano (01:13:22.07)
Hahaha!
Spencer (01:13:29.646)
like monster slaves that they use for these kinds of jobs. And that was a rough copy of.
Luciano (01:13:42.006)
So wait, wait, wait, how are the weird bird things related to the human hand spider?
Spencer (01:13:46.766)
I'm saying those weird bird things are actually like bred monsters and they're not actually humans.
Luciano (01:13:54.038)
I see. And there's but there's still a quarter Harkonnen like Matz had. Okay, just just checking. Okay. Everybody knows that that's common knowledge.
Spencer (01:14:00.526)
course.
Yes, only the good quarter. And they still have to write hippogriffs.
Matt (01:14:05.107)
Everybody knows that part.
Luciano (01:14:11.798)
Hahahaha!
Matt (01:14:12.293)
Everything I said was true, but also what Spencer said. Yeah, inside. Yeah, there we go. That's how you do it.
Spencer (01:14:13.462)
But also they're spiders. Just, yeah, yes and.
Luciano (01:14:18.006)
Yeah. Okay.
Luciano (01:14:22.614)
Yes, and the final exam is a huge trivia show about the best Harkonnen fights. And if you don't pass, you become the spider again.
There.
Matt (01:14:40.659)
So, Spencer...
Spencer (01:14:41.37)
Yes
Matt (01:14:46.355)
Next question.
How do Harkonins get a tan?
Spencer (01:14:53.582)
Well, in this movie they don't. They're, they...
Luciano (01:14:54.006)
Hmm.
Matt (01:14:57.171)
Are they permatanned?
Luciano (01:14:59.67)
I think they're permatant. Yeah, that's what the sun, the black and white sun does.
Spencer (01:14:59.758)
Are you saying they're tanned white?
Matt (01:15:03.251)
I don't know, you tell me.
Spencer (01:15:06.606)
black sun tans you white because our yellow white sun tans you dark.
Luciano (01:15:09.43)
no. this is no good. Stop.
Luciano (01:15:14.646)
no.
Spencer (01:15:17.806)
I'm walking on eggshells here. I'm dancing. I'm weaving through lasers. God, how did we get here? So you're saying the black sun makes you a snow ninja.
Luciano (01:15:19.51)
I was gonna say!
Matt (01:15:20.467)
It's very dangerous territory. This is send and jowl over again.
Luciano (01:15:25.942)
no!
Spencer (01:15:35.534)
And the white sun makes you a sand.
Luciano (01:15:40.95)
Wait, so wait, if you're Harkonnen and you don't go out in the white sun, do you stay dark? Is that what you're saying too?
Matt (01:15:43.123)
Yeah
Spencer (01:15:50.67)
That's racist. I'm offended. No, it's snow ninjas. No, I think that, yeah, I think it makes sense that the sun would, I guess, bleach them to a degree. It burns the pigment away. And then...
Luciano (01:15:52.278)
yeah, what I said was, I'm sorry, my bad. Didn't mean to. Let's go back to talking about Sand Ninjas. Yeah, that's better.
Matt (01:15:52.435)
Yeah, yeah.
Luciano (01:16:12.118)
and makes their eyebrows fall off.
Luciano (01:16:16.79)
Right.
Spencer (01:16:19.95)
When they come to Arrakis, they just have to wear sunscreen. I would imagine they have to wear. Yeah. Cause the Fremen are... I'm just saying a darker complexion. Then, well, everyone's a darker complexion compared to the Harkonnen.
Matt (01:16:26.227)
Right, different sun.
Luciano (01:16:29.334)
Yeah.
See? See? See?
Matt (01:16:36.339)
Ha ha ha ha ha ha.
Luciano (01:16:38.898)
I think you cracked that egg shell you were stepping on.
Matt (01:16:43.571)
It fell completely through.
Luciano (01:16:48.886)
Hahaha!
Spencer (01:16:49.806)
I'm just saying, like, they're clearly... tanned. I can't have this conversation! It's a - it's a - Thank you.
Luciano (01:16:53.71)
I think we need to go somewhere else.
Matt (01:16:55.429)
Moving on, let's start with the Beneath Jesuit. Apparently they have a history of starting prophecies on all sorts of planets to help with their grand master plans of controlling the universe. I want to know what are some of the craziest prophecies they've launched on other planets.
Luciano (01:17:01.046)
Okay.
Luciano (01:17:13.398)
Right.
Luciano (01:17:20.182)
Mmm.
Matt (01:17:23.667)
crazier than this one, if possible. Cause this one's wild.
Spencer (01:17:25.006)
Ha ha ha!
I mean, I think on a planet much like our own, whoever was like the top podcaster was prophesized to be the next Lisa and Hagaib, and it could be one of us.
Luciano (01:17:45.462)
Listen up, guys!
Spencer (01:17:46.766)
I'm getting out!
Matt (01:17:46.995)
you
Luciano (01:17:50.902)
Yeah, that would be a wild prophecy, I agree.
Matt (01:17:51.443)
very humble that's exactly what that's exactly what yeah
Spencer (01:17:52.558)
that is a wild prophecy I mean it could be anything I mean this this prophecy was that they've like he had to be like superpowered
Luciano (01:18:00.438)
Well, it has to kind of tie in with their own prophecy so they can exploit it, right? So.
Spencer (01:18:06.67)
No, they can come up with any prophecy and exploit it. Anything, any prophecy they make that they can fulfill can be useful.
Luciano (01:18:13.398)
Okay, yeah that makes sense, yeah
Matt (01:18:14.323)
Great. So like God sends his son to earth and then he dies and he gets resurrected.
Luciano (01:18:19.574)
I was going to say, you have to, you know, God sacrifices himself to himself so that he can, yeah, yeah, the Bene Gesserit are called the Catholic Church on earth.
Spencer (01:18:22.638)
Wait, what are you saying? What?
Matt (01:18:27.003)
I'm saying that Ben H .S. would control the earth through Catholicism.
Spencer (01:18:29.742)
What are you saying? We want to be banned in all hemispheres is what you're saying. What if there was a planet where they don't have carbohydrates? So everyone is like bone skinny and there's very little nutrition and then they say the prophecy will be fat. No, I don't. I said low on nutrients too.
Luciano (01:18:38.358)
That's fine. Yeah.
Matt (01:18:39.187)
Let's just cover it all, yeah.
Luciano (01:18:46.678)
Okay.
Matt (01:18:51.859)
You think, you know there are other foods besides carbs, right?
Luciano (01:18:57.398)
I only eat bread.
Matt (01:19:00.147)
CLEARS THROAT
Spencer (01:19:01.262)
So let's just say that it's a planet where there's like not enough to sustain someone to gain weight. And then they make a prophecy that the person who will be the Lisa Nagaeb will be fat. And then they just, they just carb load one guy and send them there and then it's done. Easy peasy. And then they send Baron Harkonnen and he's fucking, not only that, he's floating. Like why did they go through all this work? That seems much easier.
Luciano (01:19:08.182)
huh.
Luciano (01:19:14.326)
The fat one, it's the fat one.
Luciano (01:19:19.446)
Baron Harkonnen, they send Baron Harkonnen there. Yeah.
Yeah.
Luciano (01:19:28.83)
I think... No, no, no, no. He is the only one who can eat. He's the only one who can eat. Yeah. Yeah. He's eating them. He is eating them. Basically. Yeah. Well, I mean, do you think it's a far stretch for Dark Conan to be cannibals? I don't think so.
Matt (01:19:32.211)
Because he bring them all food or because I feel like they just murder him on sight.
Spencer (01:19:34.016)
No, no, no, no, no, no, no. If anything, they're eating less. Because he's eating. Yeah.
Matt (01:19:40.115)
to feed him. okay, it's cannibalism. Great, we got there. It's good, I'm glad we checked that box.
Matt (01:19:51.539)
I don't know man, I'm just asking questions. I'm just asking questions.
Spencer (01:19:54.414)
I keep on getting the harcon and mixed up with that guy with sex with the tentacle monster in Harvest Moon.
Matt (01:20:00.435)
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
Luciano (01:20:01.558)
He could have been a Harkonnen easily.
Spencer (01:20:03.534)
That's what I was thinking, I'm like, remember that scene in Dune where he had sex with a tentacle monster? And I'm like, no, that was... That was that.
Matt (01:20:06.995)
You don't know what the Baron was doing under that black oil.
Luciano (01:20:07.658)
That was that that was Admiral at yeah, that was Atticus noble
Spencer (01:20:15.054)
Yeah, what happens in Getty Prime stays in Getty Prime.
Luciano (01:20:15.414)
True.
Luciano (01:20:19.35)
Gated Prime, yes.
Matt (01:20:23.187)
Okay, I mean that.
Luciano (01:20:23.222)
What about a prophecy about the last son of a planet whose red sun is exploding? Okay, no, that's a no then. Just to be sure, you're saying no.
Spencer (01:20:23.566)
Moving on!
Matt (01:20:33.043)
Fuck you.
Spencer (01:20:36.142)
And he has a movie directed by James Gunn.
Matt (01:20:40.211)
Ha ha.
Matt (01:20:45.043)
Yeah, let that know.
Luciano (01:20:46.134)
Okay, now just checking. Go ahead.
Matt (01:20:48.275)
Yeah, no, that's it. No.
Spencer (01:20:50.542)
If this man from another planet was a ninja, what type of ninja would he be? Cryptonite?
Luciano (01:20:51.83)
You
Luciano (01:20:55.126)
no, get away! Let's run! Run! Run!
Matt (01:21:03.827)
Don't let ya.
Spencer (01:21:04.384)
Now we're talking. That sounds like the hottest new coin. Crypto Ninja.
Luciano (01:21:04.502)
Crypto Ninja. He also sells Bitcoin. He also sells Bitcoin.
Matt (01:21:13.491)
That's another, that's a great prophecy. There's going to be a coin that's not tied to a government. Doesn't exist, but it does exist. Exist in your mind.
Spencer (01:21:14.766)
Luciano (01:21:15.798)
It is, yeah. That doesn't really exist. Yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (01:21:23.214)
You think the coin is the profit?
Luciano (01:21:27.382)
Yeah, the NFT of the coin is the profit.
Matt (01:21:28.083)
The coin.
Spencer (01:21:29.582)
I'd like to buy your NFT sir. Do you accept credit cards? Here's a blank check.
Luciano (01:21:33.718)
hahahaha
Matt (01:21:36.915)
Only.
All right, let's wrap this up. Let's give a review of Dune 2. Why don't we make Spencer go first? He looks prepared.
Luciano (01:21:53.142)
he wasn't.
Spencer (01:21:53.518)
I'm always prepared.
Dune 2. I want to start by saying I did not really like Dune 1. I thought Dune 1 was a little bit boring and not a lot happened. So I was not that excited for Dune 2, but I was like, it's got really good reviews. And I'm like, I want to okay, I'll see it. And I saw it in theaters. And I loved it. I really liked this movie. You would not know it from this podcast. But I thought this movie was awesome.
I think it was really, I think these two movies should have been one movie, but I understand why it couldn't be one movie, but it doesn't really work as two movies either because the first movie feels like half a movie and this movie feels like the climax of a movie. But that being said, the climax was dope. Like I thought it was like really way more cool stuff in this one than the first one in my opinion. And like the stakes were really felt higher and everything.
Cause I know we're not doing a review of the first movie, but it's like the first one was just kind of like a setup. And this was all pay off. So I thought it was really cool visually, like so awesome. Like the sets and everything was so awesome. The costumes, everything's so sick. Like I, it was all around acting great. I mean, if I had any critiques, it's that like, I feel like I was. Missed out on some stuff because either I'm dumb or I, or you have to read the book to like fully get everything.
which is kind of annoying, but that being said, this movie is fucking awesome, like really good. I would like to say it's like, like watching it. You always say Luciani, you say rewatchability. Like I definitely want to rewatch this. Like it was, I thought it was really cool and really like layered. So I'm going to give it my first ever S S tier.
Luciano (01:23:34.646)
Right.
Luciano (01:23:49.27)
You're right, it is the first one. Wow. Okay. Nice.
Matt (01:23:50.835)
Wow.
Spencer (01:23:51.214)
I don't think I've ever done it. I don't think it gets much better than this. I really don't. I thought it was, I really, I left that theater with like, like my mind was pretty blown.
I love those sand ninjas.
Luciano (01:24:00.982)
Nice. Fucking hell, it was going so well!
Matt (01:24:01.175)
Wow.
god, Luciano save us, save us from what I brought.
Spencer (01:24:10.03)
Lysarogaine!
Luciano (01:24:11.862)
Hahaha!
all right. so I, I will echo much of what Spencer said. And, and, you know, we, we had a different podcast back when Dune One was out and we all basically said the same thing. This is a great half movie. Now where's the rest? Right. And I think, I think this is the, the rest was pretty dope in this one, but I will stand by what I said back then. And I think this could have been much better as like an HBO sort of like the Game of Thrones kind of series. Like we'd like.
Spencer (01:24:30.606)
Mm -hmm.
Spencer (01:24:42.798)
yeah, I remember you said that.
Luciano (01:24:45.43)
10 episodes or something, because then you can expand on, because I had the same problem. I never read the books and there's, I know that there's so much like depth to the story and like the little details that we only get very sort of like brushed over and unlike like a John Wick scenario where it's cool not to know. When you know that there's something there and you don't get it, it's, I kind of feel like you're missing out. At least I feel like I was missing out on it. So that being said,
This movie is much better than the first one. The acting is great, the cinematography, all of that. It's gorgeous, like we said. Very well directed. I think better directed than the first one, too, because the first one kind of felt aimless, at least to me. But I did find a couple of things a little annoying, not knowing that stuff. And some of the other stuff, we actually didn't even talk about Raban. I was very flabbergasted by the way that the character developed.
Spencer (01:25:25.166)
Mm -hmm.
Spencer (01:25:29.102)
Better pacing, yeah.
Luciano (01:25:43.926)
But overall, a lot of fun. I would rewatch it. I probably will rewatch it at some point. I think this is an easy A movie for me. Like, really good. I wish...
Spencer (01:25:56.27)
or Easy A is a movie with Emma Stone.
Luciano (01:25:59.35)
I actually like that movie too, but this is easy. What?
Matt (01:26:00.883)
That's Emily Stone, please. She must be called Emily.
Luciano (01:26:05.526)
Really? Is that a new thing?
Spencer (01:26:05.582)
Since when?
Matt (01:26:07.123)
Yeah, it's like in the last month. She's only Emma because there's an Emily in the screen actors kill but that person who the fuck knows who that is so
Spencer (01:26:13.55)
That person's dead now.
Luciano (01:26:15.734)
Okay, so Andrew Garfield's old girlfriend has a movie called Easy Ape. Yeah, no, so no, this is an A for me. It was really fun. Even with the like, we kind of nitpicked a little, not a little bit, nitpicked a lot today on it, but it was fun.
Matt (01:26:16.659)
Anyways, continue with your review.
Matt (01:26:35.251)
I mean, depicting is what we do, that's what you're here for. I will echo what you guys said a lot of places. Visually fun movie. I think he told generally the right parts of what I understand from the book. The story all flows together. I still think the way they broke part one and part two was stupid. But we're here nevertheless.
Luciano (01:26:36.854)
Yep.
Matt (01:27:01.459)
I think for me, honestly, so I'm going to give it an A and not an S in order to why is.
Matt (01:27:09.363)
It just, it was a really fun movie, but at times it just felt like there were spots where it just like, you could tighten it up. Little things like dragged on or didn't need to be shown or I don't know if it was like the multiple times they murdered, just out of a car in the desert, blowing up their ships or like that whole thing of like, it's cool, but it's like the whole scene of them like attacking the ship and like we talked about, right? Like they attacked the ship for no reason. Like some of that stuff was like, seemed more for cool and less for value to the movie.
Spencer (01:27:24.046)
That shit was dope though.
Matt (01:27:38.547)
But I'm nitpicking to some degree, but I just remember like I had to go to the washroom like three times in the theater and at no point was I concerned about going because it's just like, it's still in the desert. All right, cool. No big deal. So I.
Luciano (01:27:48.15)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:27:49.87)
Did you, do you think that this movie, that there could have been one movie? The two?
Matt (01:27:55.187)
No, because there's too much going on.
Luciano (01:27:55.959)
or end up with a David Lynch one.
Spencer (01:27:56.974)
I know, I... Yeah.
Matt (01:27:59.539)
Yeah, maybe we'll have to watch that and talk about it, but there's a lot going on, but I just think they sped through so much to get it all done. I think this is the best you could do for two movies, but I think that there was some space for things that you didn't need to have if you weren't 100 % planning on having to try to do a third movie. Right? Like you...
Luciano (01:28:25.974)
like shave some things completely off because they don't play any part.
Matt (01:28:30.803)
We don't need to know anything about the emperor until he shows up at the very end. It doesn't matter. That stuff is all there because you hired a big name actress to be in the next movie. Which, okay, but I always struggle when movies do this thing where they plan on having multiples without knowing if people are going to like the first ones. It's just those little things. Like I said, it's not bad. It's just kind of like, it's not...
Luciano (01:28:34.454)
Right, right, right.
Luciano (01:28:52.758)
Mm -hmm.
Matt (01:28:58.643)
It's not an S, it's what takes it out of S territory for me. It's certainly still a fun movie. I wonder now we have both of them watching them back to back would make it feel like a better experience.
Spencer (01:29:07.758)
I feel like, yeah, like I was gonna say that I feel like, no, I feel like watching them together, like as one movie would just feel like an epic, like sick, six hour movie. Like I feel like it's meant to be one movie, but it's like, I think you're right though. It's like, cause I was thinking about it. It doesn't work as two movies, like perfectly, like it kind of works, but it couldn't work as one movie cause it's too dense and it couldn't work as three movies cause the act structure issues. I think Luciano is right that the best way would be like a
Luciano (01:29:08.63)
I don't think so.
Matt (01:29:18.835)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:29:36.782)
miniseries or like a season of a show because yeah, then you could paste it out, whatever it's needed, right?
Luciano (01:29:38.71)
Because there's so much story to it, right?
Luciano (01:29:44.47)
Yeah. Like imagine, imagine if they took Game of Thrones and tried to condense it into two movies. It would be shit. Even if it was just one season. So yeah.
Spencer (01:29:51.374)
Yeah. Yeah, I think you're right. But I
Matt (01:29:55.571)
So, anyways, nitpicking. We all love this movie. We all had a great time. Definitely recommend it. But that's where I fit my A in 7S. Alrighty, next movie. Listen, we watched a bunch of good movies in a row and now we're gonna punish ourselves by watching Madame Web. It's for the fans.
Luciano (01:29:58.806)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:29:59.694)
Yeah.
Luciano (01:30:07.158)
Speaking of Ace...
Spencer (01:30:15.31)
What do you mean? What do you mean punish ourselves? I think, let's not jump to conclusions, guys.
Matt (01:30:19.475)
This movement made less money than Morbius.
Luciano (01:30:22.87)
Yes.
Spencer (01:30:24.334)
Maybe we can jump to conclusions just a little bit.
Luciano (01:30:25.622)
Hahaha!
Matt (01:30:25.843)
Just a little bit. So listen, if you want to enjoy this.
Spencer (01:30:34.35)
Does it have a lower Rotten Tomatoes score than Morbius? god. This is like a measurement of pain.
Matt (01:30:34.387)
Riot's not the right word. Let's check while I vamp here. But yeah, thank you.
Luciano (01:30:37.206)
I think it's around the same.
I'll check, I'll check while you, yeah.
Matt (01:30:46.387)
Everything I know about this movie says that Morbius made more sense as a story. So, it's not good. I'm really excited. As far as I understand, I think it's a movie. It wants so very desperately to be Spider -Man, but it cannot use anything from Spider -Man to tell a story.
Luciano (01:30:50.902)
my god.
Spencer (01:30:53.838)
That's not good. That's a scary sentence to hear.
Spencer (01:31:11.15)
Movies like Couple Kids in a Trench Coat, pretending to be Spider -Man.
Luciano (01:31:11.414)
So just to interject, yeah. So Morbius is at 15 % on the critic score and 71 % on the audience score. Yeah. Madam Web is 11 % on the, 11 and 57%. So it's, we might have found the bottom of our, we'll see. Maybe we're all gonna love it because we're idiots. I don't know. We'll see.
Matt (01:31:14.643)
Yeah, but they can't say the word Spider -Man.
Great. Sure. Whatever. The audience is on crack.
Spencer (01:31:20.686)
Okay. What?
Spencer (01:31:27.95)
Ooooo
that's a lot lower.
Matt (01:31:37.171)
find out.
Spencer (01:31:40.302)
There's just a chance.
Matt (01:31:43.027)
There is. So anyways, join us next week for the Sydney Sweeney Vehicle Madden Web.
Luciano (01:31:45.078)
There isn't.
Luciano (01:31:50.142)
Yeah, perfect.
Spencer (01:31:50.478)
perfect. Now, before we go, I wanted to ask Luciano, what was the name of the main character in this movie? What was his moniker that they called? No, what was that? What they call him? What did the people
Luciano (01:31:55.574)
Yeah.
Luciano (01:32:02.806)
main character, Polatradies. Listen again!
