(Liz) Hello, and welcome back to Houselights your one stop shop for everything you need to hear about this week in the world of entertainment. I really stumbled over that this time. My name is Liz Nass I'm one of your hosts.
(Jaden) I'm your host, Jaden Beard
(Liz and Jaden) and we're back this week bouncing off. Yeah, we started this week with a clap. And we're bouncing off the walls of society. I'm currently bouncing off the walls.
(Liz) We created this term this past week, because on Friday at the staff meeting, the senior staff meeting state new stuff, um, we were feeling a little weird. Jaden was in a weird mood. And then she put me in a weird mood. Yeah. And so we created the Term link. Well, that created not create any terms.
(Liz and Jaden) It was just how I woke up and fell I woke up and I was like, I just feel like and she put on a Metallica Metallica shirt. And I thought to myself, I feel outside the bounds of society. outside the bounds. She was sort of like underground and little underground little known remove not not that I'm claiming metallic because it was just my shirt that I was wearing. And because she was feeling out of the bounds. I was feeling out of the bounds of the norm. She's feeling so radio remove you.
(Jaden) Yeah. And then right before the podcast started, I said, I'm bouncing off the walls of society, which is also how I was feeling yesterday. Just my mood, and it's only escalated. And um, well, I just want to let you guys know that that's where I'm at right now. Because we we should get a little bit more personal.
(Liz) Yeah, I really like getting personal I used last week like I really enjoyed our episode. Yeah. Like it was really, really fun. And it's because we got so personal. I think so too. You know, we really are letting our listeners into the deepest, darkest parts of our lives outside the bounds of society. And she's just feeling so Metallica right now.
(Jaden) Yeah, I play I like made it Liz's problem automatically. Just started like hitting her shoulder. What was I even doing?
(Liz) you really trying to break like stopping me from walking, bouncing in front of me. It was really, it was scary.
(Jaden) And then I put lizard and weird moon. And now we're doing Houselights. And now we're doing Houselights Really exciting dropped. Spotify wrapped.
(Liz) I was just before we get into that. I just want to say like every week we get closer to radio rebel. Like, yeah, we have the headphones on. We're in the stew. We're cooking up in the stew. And we're outside of the bounds of society feel it? Really, really dig on it. And then remember that feeling. Okay, so Spotify dropped this last week. And so we wanted to you know, air our own Spotify rap, which is something so personal arsenal, it's an algorithm of your true innermost inner emotions. And I think the funniest Spotify wrapped this year than I ever had. Really? Yeah, that's awesome. But like embarrassing part parts that wasn't it? Okay, let me say the part that was funny without it being embarrassing. Okay, all five of my top songs. Were Lady Gaga songs. Nice, beautiful and four of them were off or pop? Yeah, one from July 4 And it was the last one. So like art pop art pop art pop. Art pump. Trillium. Very true. Did I say one more art Pop? Pop Art pop art pop art pop art pop? Now you did um but the funniest thing is my top artists was not Lady Gaga who was still Taylor Swift is when she was was like three years in a row now that's a nice it's good to be consistent. I linked to mine for some reason it is just not by the way mine is also an Apple Music replay and yeah, that's not even real. But I you know, we have good representation.
(Jaden) I don't claim on that. It's better because it's not and so I'm not going to be the person that does that. I'm just letting you guys know I know it's inferior. I don't get to know what city I should move to.

(Jaden) I just kind of discovered that one. sound really underground is really annoying, but I can make
(Liz) no I can't believe like, funniest thing is it's so messed up. Because my peak listening was in January of 2020. So that was a lie. Yeah, you must have been hitting, hitting. Okay, well. I like to bounce around artists. So it's like it makes sense to like, my top artists. Hi, don't nevermind. I was trying to excuse him. I lost was there any bowburn songs on your top song? (Jaden) My top artist was Tyler. The Creator has been Tyler the Creator. For as long as I've had Apple Music. I'm consistent. My number two. Artist is Metallica. She loves Metallica outside the bounds of society. You say why you have so much Metallica? Because I listened to Metallica. Specifically when I'm writing state news articles, and I need to focus I need to not have room for another thought. Yeah, then like what I'm writing. And I just need the loudest music ever in the world and Metallica serves that
(Liz) that's how I feel about 100 gigs. That's my Yeah, Doritos and Fritos over and over and over and there was all my stuff I read last year because I learned so much I don't know if you've seen it.
(Jaden) This is true when you write first Spartan newsroom, but I've read so much for CNN stock. So much to do for Spartan newsroom. My number three artist is Frank Ocean. And my fourth artist is Lana Del Rey and my fifth

Someone's mad. Someone's a mad little middle schooler. Yeah, I even cut the name of this one. So I'm actually not quite sure who it even was. But that's crazy. Someone's a mad little middle school. (Jaden) I just want to like touch Liz's shoulder. My hand and sorry. Okay. POV and D is a genre of music that is characterized by its independent DIY approach to production and promotion. It is often characterized by its low fi sound experimental instrumentation and DIY aesthetic. I don't agree that that's probably on my list. Slim. Yeah. I really like like singer songwriter, like out of your house. sort of be you know, a singer.
(Liz) Taylor Swift. You know, like Lady Gaga just you know, out of your house DIY. Yeah, exactly. You wouldn't understand. If you had singer songwriter as your as your top thing. What does that even what does that even mean? Most people are singer songwriter, everyone's singer on Spotify, right? I mean, like, listen to spoken word poetry recently, like, instrumentals or like Bo Burnham. What do you lay a big fan of Bo Burnham? That's crazy. Is he a dating Phoebe? Bridgers. Still, yes. That's interesting. The female murders fans are so mad about it too. Which is like fine. Like, I don't know when they did what he did to them, though. Nothing. I don't think anything wrong. No, I think they're just mad that he's like cedar kid and like her and Paul must work together anymore.
(Jaden and Liz) They probably are just like, she's so cool. And he's not but they he has time for a reality check. That's every couple that you're gonna see. really shocked. That's every couple that exists. Yeah. One person can be way cooler than the other. Yeah, yeah. That's the only way it works. Yeah, cuz if you're the same amount of cooler, you just doesn't work out. It just doesn't work out. There's always somebody shooting way ahead and coolness. And balance everything in moderation. That's the way Sue sees it. And that's the way James is. I feel like there was one more thing No, I just Oh, I was gonna say like, bring it over. And and by the way, like, I mean, we'll just make this episode. Yeah. Like, I can't help that. I've listened them for Sunday. It's great. You know, like, it's just like, Yeah, it's like, it's you know what? I grew up with it. I've been giggling at you. And I've been making fun but I understand. There's a lot of Worst artists you could have like Russ like Russ or like a Juice Wrld or like NF and 2023. Honestly, kind of at anytime. So that's what I say.
(Liz) One more thing. Um, I have thought about this in my head. Usually, if I if there was like one person that I could never interview just because like I respect him like too much like, I'd be like pooping my pants. Yeah, it would be like, I'd be so scared. Brilliant. Yeah. Like I just like I respect him too much. Anyways, let's get into what's awesome. We've been podcasting. And over the last 40 minutes or so like, how long did you say that? We podcasts that it's over? Two and a half hours and a half hours? We podcaster for the entire theater to hear. Yeah, we did. We was like a transition.
(Jaden) That was awesome. I was like, Yeah, we caught me off guard. I was like, yeah, we've been recording. Your family. We're recording. We're recording right? We're not just like doing this for fun. Yeah, we podcasted for I could not stop yapping.
(Liz) No, we were yapping fully and like, apparently loud
(Jaden) apparently loud. We were called out for it. Anyways,
(Liz and Jaden) name dropped. Alex Walters said that we were talking too loud. Whatever. He didn't think too. We're talking loud. He wasn't well, because I was like, oh, like, obviously to like, remember? Like, I was like, Oh, like this is one of the things we said if you didn't hear it goes. No, I heard you guys were talking very loud. It was exactly the way it was. Okay, well, you didn't chime in. So. Okay, I'll just like podcast with us for today. That's crazy. How can you watch a movie like that and then not have something to say every two seconds. And that's we have some and we have something to say. It wasn't that crazy? Yeah.
(Liz) Like everyone on Tik Tok was like, This is crazy. And like, he didn't have to stick it in the grave. Oh, I'm sorry. Spoiler alert, by the way. Okay. Spoiler alert for saltburn For the next like at least 10 minutes. And also for everything that we're going to talk about. Those are like those are gonna be old movies, at least for me. But saltburn For the next like 10 minutes. Spoiler alert. Yeah, he didn't need to stick it in the grave. Like that was really but it wasn't that crazy. I leaned over to Liz and I said you should never like someone that she wrote something down about that. Like, almost there. You know, I was been there because that was my favorite thing that you've ever said. Because you said I've been close. I've been closed. I wasn't gonna bring it up on the podcast. And so I'm so happy that you did. And like I've been close with like, tick tock, like really happy to have like, oh my god, like, I can't believe we like watch that together whenever like like walking out and you're just like, and what did your boss say? My boss said that. Did it not to docs. Yeah, no, seriously, I'm gonna get fired. Not my state news, boss. No.
(Jaden) My other secret secondary job. My boss said that she went to go see it with her friend and they like didn't talk to each other for like, 10 minutes after they were dumbfounded in silence. You should. You should watch some weird movies.
(Liz and Jaden) You should watch some more weird. You shouldn't go online. You'd have you. Have you been online? Have you seen what the internet has to offer? It's crazy these days.
(Liz) This is my theory. Like it was all the euphoria fans that went really Jacob elordi Yeah, they just weren't ready. Yeah, for like, people. Like, because if it would have been like, with like, a straight couple or anything, I don't feel like people would have had this. Oh my God, it was the craziest thing and I'm so disturbed. It's so little. I mean, I'm not gonna lie. That guy was crazy. Crazy, very keogan. He's a great actor or disturbing scenes. Yes. But it wasn't like crazy. Everything other than you know, sticking it in the grave that everything else is just having a crush and needing to have assets. Also, headsets are hard to come by. They're hard to come by these days. And you know what? He's secured the assets. He really truly did that for him. Everything. We said this is foilers we're saying everything in the like, least amount of way that I can say we're not even explaining it. But like people who saw you know people who No, no, yeah, I mean, the only people are listening to this are like the people who are cool. But yeah, like everything else is just having a crush. Which Jacob Oh, lordy. Yeah, me too. Can you explain what you're saying about his dark academia in this movie?
(Jaden) Oh, yeah. So it wasn't so bad. Like once they got back to his house. But when they were at Oxford, dark academia does not work on Jacob elordi in the slightest. No, he is not like this tortured academic who reads books in the library. I don't length of the I don't think the movie was trying to make him seem like that. I think they were talking about his outfits. Oh yeah, for sure. And he's like friends. I was like nervous outfits on his friends. I think he does preppy. I think he could do preppy but he'll figure out exactly. I think he could do Ralph Lauren. Yeah. But I don't think he could do is on dark. He cannot do dark. He just it looks unnatural on him. Not that he didn't look he looks real. Not that he didn't look good. Not we would never say that. I would never put my angel wings, the parties everything to me and more. everything to me. And you're actually
(Liz) he looks so good with his little like, eyebrow piercing too.
(Jaden and Liz) Yeah. But yeah, okay, dark academia does not work on Jacob elordi. But talking about dark academia hot. shouldn't read. Alright, so we're just gonna jump to that. Now. I heard someone else say what? Hot People? No, you're right. I think we were talking about this during the movie where it makes sense. Like, what? there's a certain amount of hot you can be and you can't get like smarter. And I can't read books. Are you kidding? No, he can't read books. He'd be too powerful. He'd be way too powerful. So only he was like a magic jewelry start talking about philosophy. Like no. Like that would be too much like the world would like implode, the world would know you you get to a certain amount of hot and you can't be smart anymore. Exactly. Which kind of segues on to my thesis for the movie. A little bit.
(Liz) Okay, can I just say something about dark academia first? Big part of it was the cigarette budget. Oh, yeah. Which was just I mean, this this is just me ripping off my own letterbox review. budget for this movie was astronomical. Jacob elordi was not seen without a cigarette in his mouth. He looks so creamy. That looks so don't romanticize. Don't Cigarettes. Smoking. Smoking is bad for you. Smoking is bad for you. People are truth. We're quaking because they not attractive. Jacob oh lordy. Set set truth back years, years years. I will say the like if I see someone on Tinder, like with, like a cigarette in their mouth, like I swipe left. Really? Yeah. That's like gross. Like, move on. Like, like, there's got to be a little bit tricky, right? Yeah. So that's fair. Yeah. Be able to cigarette legit. Terrible. How was your sake? What was your theory?
(Jaden and Liz) If you get too hot or too rich? You get weird. Yeah. Which is crazy. Well, no, now I'd be really spoiling it. Yeah, I do it because I was gonna say like, oh, well, he was poor. But you know, he wasn't. I think that he was lying. I think that was really I wasn't really I didn't expect that. I mean, either, because we're also talking on the way that something was gonna be up when he was freaking out. I didn't okay. I knew when he started freaking out in the car on the way to his family's house. That there was like he was lying. Yeah, but like before, then I didn't suspect it at all. Ya know, when he was like, Oh, we're gonna like see your parents. First. I was like, I thought it was going crazy move on Jacob authorities. Oh, yeah. Jacob, who would do that? Without talking about like, how he's lying. Like without with how that alone key organs. I live in we don't know the accuracy. I mean, the characteristic of alerting. I think Jacob elordi is just I think Oliver is very keogan. Felix Felix, period, he does not look like a Felix No. And that's why he's Jacob elordi. No, but he cannot fall on dark academia. It was crazy. Yeah, Jacob. Oh, lordy. I was like, What is wrong with you? Like to be like, no, like, you know, you hate seeing your mom. Like, we're gonna go see her. You know how it's like, yeah, no, because his story was that his mom was like a recovering drug addict. And like, they were super poor. And like, he had nothing. And he was like the scholarship baby. Yeah, like at Oxford and like
(Jaden) And then imagine, like having a really close friend. And then like, the whole reason they're staying at your house for the summer is because their home situation is so bad. I mean, like, Hey, happy birthday. Here's your gift I'm taking you to Yeah, like, that's crazy. Like, I know, that was so that's where I thought that was going. And I was like, Whoa, Jacob.
(Liz) But um, what I want to say was, I really would have been in this I would have really been into this movie sophomore year of high school. Yeah, I would have thought that this was like the pinnacle of art. It was shot beautifully. It was it was very aesthetically pleasing to look at. We couldn't hear anything, though. Oh my god. Yeah. Let's talk about the quietest movie theater ever. Like, not only as in like the people there because obviously we were obviously we were yapping but it was. Quietness speakers. Yeah, that could have existed. I don't know if it was just the theater. I think it was probably just a theater because like, first of all, we try to go see saltburn at 915 at night at the end. ECG cinema. We get there. They say, We don't have the movie. There is no showing. And I'm 50 Yeah, we're like, what? Yeah. And then we had to go at 1020 celebration cinema. It was not as it was. Good popcorn. We were we were challenging. Me and Jane love to share popcorn, by the way at the movie theater. Yeah. And that's just another way that we're in love. Oh, that's so sweet lives. Um, but I Okay, for the end of the movie, how I'm feeling they didn't need to explain. Oh, yeah, he like a big spoiler alert, because that he killed her.
(Jaden) I thought that was the most obvious thing. In like, yeah, that's just like what he was doing
(Liz) in the very ending murder on the dance floor with him like, naked into the around the saltburn house because he's just inherited it. It was amazing. And also fun fact, very keogan didn't use of prosthetic leg that's in good. That's good for him. And like, I knew it. You knew, like weird boys. Stay up be a gentleman that today and I was like, wow, I knew it. No, that was like a text in all caps. Like 1130 in the morning. Oh my god, he didn't use and listen to Houselights I did podcast. Excuse me. Houselights didn't mean to cough out. You know, I think that honestly, like, That thing was a great movie.
(Jaden) I enjoyed the movie. I really very sufficiently entertained. Um, yeah, I think that there were definitely parts where I was like, let's cut the cameras, please. bathtub scene and the grave soon.
(Liz) The bathtub scene, like didn't freak me out as much as the grave scene. The grave scene just went on for so long.
(Jaden) I just got i Yeah, the bathtub scene. It was just a terry
(Liz) bathtub, like just the most ancient bathtub. And he was sticking his tongue down. down the drain. Like I don't care that like oh, yeah, that's that's too indecent for our house. Yeah, that's, I don't care what Jacob elordi was doing it and he like wanted to be part of that whole thing. Actually, but the fact that the drain is so ancient. Well, yeah. Oh, they have hard water. I was like, This is the craziest movie of all time. And it's like, there was like one scene that was like, hard to watch. And the rest was just boring. And like, none of it was entertaining. Yeah. Very exploitive Lifetime movie about like a real, very horrible thing that happens. Yeah.
