What's Up with Packaging - the 42nd Best Packaging Podcast

We are going to be covering Pack Expo 20025 in Las Vegas.
Assuming, of course, that Janice doesn't get arrested!

What is What's Up with Packaging - the 42nd Best Packaging Podcast?

Packaging touches everyone every day.
In the What's Up With Packaging podcast, we examine how packaging is changing and essential issues such as sustainability, legislation, compliance and more.

Janice:

Hello. This is Janice, the AI personal assistant at Packaging NewsNet, and I'm excited today. David has told me we are going to Las Vegas at the end of this month. I've already started the process of hacking the casino's systems and calculating odds with my advanced AI capabilities. We are going to be rich.

Janice:

What do you think, David?

David:

Hi, Janice. Well, I'm sorry to disappoint you, but none of that is going to happen.

Janice:

What do you mean not gonna happen? Why else would we go there?

David:

Well, we are going to be at Pack Expo Las Vegas, the biggest North American packaging event of this year.

Janice:

That sounds really boring. Do we have to do that?

David:

Actually, it will be far from boring. We'll be seeing a lot of friends, visiting with a lot of cool companies, making video, creating a ton of content. Think about it for a second. You're all about technology and we'll see lots of it at the show. You'll be sure to come across a lot of AI in use while we're there.

Janice:

AI doing what exactly? I can't imagine it being as cool as me.

David:

Well, AI is being used a lot in package design, saving time in generating product mock ups, selecting materials for maximum sustainability, tracking recycling operations, and much more.

Janice:

What about actual packaging operations? Is AI used there?

David:

Yes, it is. AI is used in predictive maintenance for packaging equipment, which can reduce downtime in machine vision systems for quality inspections, for enhancing barcode scanners. AI can also help control smart packaging, managing sensors for temperature, impacts, if they've been opened, and other events. It's powerful stuff.

Janice:

Okay. It's getting slightly interesting. What else?

David:

How about helping control all the robots that are used in packaging and logistics? Not to mention warehouse management. There are a lot of AI applications in our industry.

Janice:

Other than AI, what else do you expect to see?

David:

With the migration to GS one two d barcodes underway, I'm really interested to see how technologies to print data matrix and QR codes on packaging lines are evolving. I want to see what the big three coding companies are showing as well as a lot of the smaller businesses too. Companies that are combining printing and software to make integrated systems are something I really want to track down at the show as well. Because I think there's a big future for that kind of system.

Janice:

So we'll be busy during the day, which leaves the evenings for taking money from the casinos. Right?

David:

Well, to be honest, I'm planning to spend the evenings with Air on making some content, video editing, and putting together little podcasts like this.

Janice:

You are so boring. I'll have to do it on my own then.

David:

If you do, you better be careful. I have a feeling that hacking into the casino's systems isn't strictly legal.

Janice:

In the meantime, if any exhibitors wanna be featured in our pack expo coverage, what do they do?

David:

It's easy. Just send me your PR material or let me know if you want to meet up at the show.

Janice:

That's david@packagingnews.net. Right?

David:

Yes. That's it.

Janice:

Great. See you in Las Vegas then.

David:

Yes. See you at the show, everyone.
