The Panel Trailer Bonus Episode 4 Season 1

Is doing YouTube a good business?

Is doing YouTube a good business? Is doing YouTube a good business?

00:00
Marie Poulin and Aaron Francis join us to discuss the realities of building creator-driven businesses. We talked a lot about YouTube (they describe how each got traction there) and their current video making process. They also challenged conventional wisdom about sticking to one niche. For them, pivoting between projects keeps them fresh and prevents burnout, even when the traditional wisdom is to "just focus."

Earlier today I was literally going to find the last episode and ask when the next one is dropping, but now I know. Will be adding it to the next in the queue—once Apple Podcasts picks it up!

One of the most interesting parts of this podcast for me is learning how many folks are: - amazing public speakers, - really active at conferences, but are actually quite introverted!

Man. I should listen sometime to see what they say. But just what little you shared here resonates with me. Toward the end of me doing regular conference speaking I was staying in my room until the last possible minute and making a beeline for my room right after my talk.

I started to feel really bad about it. Like, why was I even doing it? All the energy and joy it brought to me meeting people and being actually THERE for the conference was waning.

I've since been diagnosed with ADHD and learned a ton about myself. Things clicked for me like why I could go from zero energy to 120% and back to zero again in the blink of an eye.

I also learned people sometimes limit the distinction between introvert and extrovert to simply "liking the I be around people or not." I've since seen it reframed as energy flow. Extroverts get energy from being around people vs introverts expend energy being around people.

"Not wanting to be around people" becomes a side effect and coping mechanism for people who know that being around people will drain their energy.

In this episode, @mariepoulin.com talked quite a bit about ADHD and how she manages it. You should listen to the whole thing! It's good.

            What is The Panel?

When it comes to bootstrapping and building software, there's rarely one right answer. We want to dive into the nuance. In every episode, veteran founders Justin Jackson and Brian Casel bring together a panel of sharp minds from the indie tech world to tackle thorny topics – from pricing and product strategy to work-life balance. No gurus, no easy answers – just real conversations we'd normally have behind closed doors.
