Exposing the logical holes in myths about the 2SLGBTQIA+ community since 2024. The show is hosted by Pittsburgh’s own Suzy and relies on reliable science, facts, statistics, stats, misinformation, and facts. Get answers to questions like do toilets gender? Who is JK Rowling and what’s his problem? What is a unicorn and why are they more than an interest on Tinder? New episodes 3x/week in June.
Hello, Suzy here. I'm getting really excited for pride month. I have 2 or 3 episodes lined up per week for the entire month of June. Each episode is gonna have some time sensitive information regarding Pittsburgh Area Pride events. This pre show bonus exists because there are things that you need to know about before the first episode of Exposing the Holes drops on June 4th.
Suzy:This podcast takes place entirely from my underground hole where I live 10 months out of the year. I have green hair, hand tattoos. I might be non binary. I might be bisexual. I'm white.
Suzy:I was raised in Tucson, Arizona before I found my current location under the Allegheny Cemetery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I do get Internet in my hole, and you can email me at any time for any reason at nermermermernetwork@gmail.com. It is Nancy echo Romeo Michael echo Romeo Nancy echo Romeo Michael echo Romeo Nancy echo tiara Washington Oscar Romeo kilo @gmail.com. So you can contact me there. And this is also how I got all of my guests.
Suzy:All of my guests are calling in from everywhere, all around the country, all around the globe, all around the universe. That's who I'm talking to this month. And they all called in to my little hole, and we, chatted that way. This June, I'm going to be emerging, and I've got these episodes all lined up for you. I'm gonna go out.
Suzy:I'm gonna celebrate gay pride with my friends, and I'm talking with experts on subjects about things. Since this is lubing you up for what to expect from a show like this hosted by me. I am known for dramatic shifts in tone, not with my voice. I'm known for mon monotone when it comes to my voice. But dramatic shifts in tone, meaning that I take my absurd and silly content with a side of solemn and important on a pretty regular basis.
Suzy:I really can't talk about anything lighthearted without bringing something heavyhearted. I also can't really talk about anything heavyhearted without bringing something lighthearted. It works for this show because a similar spectrum of like pure bliss to absolute darkness also exists when we speak about queer history and queer joy, queer experiences over time. And people have died to get us to a point where we can, like, do the dick shaped jello shots in the park. You know what I mean?
Suzy:So gay pride these days feels to me and to many, like an opportunity to spend money on trinkets and see shows and whatever. And it's also important to hold in our minds how many people did not get the same liberties, didn't even have the same basic human rights before we got to this point. And there are also people to this day who die or are in danger because of their queer identity. And so we need to remember those people while we are celebrating as well. This is also the time to mention that there are families trapped in the Gaza Strip who need help.
Suzy:We can't have fun and do a cute little podcast without acknowledging the ongoing genocide in Palestine. The way that we are acknowledging it on this show is there is a grassroots movement to support and amplify aid request of Palestinian families. It's called Operation Olive Branch. It is gained a lot of popularity on TikTok. They've got a spreadsheet of GoFundMe's for Palestinian families, and the link tree for operation olive branch will be the first link in the show notes for every single episode of this show.
Suzy:Show. If you have over $1,000 in your bank account, you need to go to that link and donate $5 to a family seeking help. The reason I'm including the link tree the whole link tree is because it's got FAQs and other ways you can help as well. So by linking that whole link tree, you can take a look at Operation Olive Branch for yourself, make a decision how you will help. There are other links in the show notes as well for things like funny GIFs or like credits on where I got my fart sound effects, but this link is going to be at the top.
Suzy:So no matter what platform you're listening to this podcast on, go to the operational branch link at the top. Each episode is going to end with Pittsburgh area pride events followed by a daily tarot card reading. However, the show premieres on June 4th, so there's gonna be things that happen. Pride month kickoff happens before June 4th. So I've lined up the events you need to know about for this week and this weekend in Pittsburgh on this pre show episode.
Suzy:And at the end, you will be rewarded with your mystical little tarot card, and it'll be the same with every episode I do. Most episodes do not have this many events to talk about, but we are getting excited. We have full energy. We're at the beginning of the month. So here we go.
Suzy:Before we even get into the meat and potatoes of pride month, there is an atomic cinema event happening at Bottle Rocket on Tuesday, May 28th at 7:30. It's a reading, screening, and performance with Anthony Olviera. It's the same night at Harold's Haunt. There is a burlesque and drag show at 8 PM in Millvale, and it's called hot for teacher. Honey x l is at COBRA on Wednesday 29th for Amapiano and Afrobeats happy hour.
Suzy:The same day, same Wednesday. We have happy hour for AAPI women and non binary folks at the Novo Asian Food Hall. There's also happy hour by pflag Greensburg and Crabtree, and a match game, pride by City Winery. It's named like Pee Wee's Playhouse. And at p town, there is a pride bingo and potluck.
Suzy:If you don't make it to any of those things on Wednesday, or you want to keep the night going, or you start late, there's also the weekly Blue Moon open stage starting around 10 PM hosted by Cindy Crossford. Shirt. Alex Newell, who I know best from Glee, but who has gone on to win a Tony award in the 500 years since Glee happened, will be at Picnic in the Park on Thursday, May 30th, from 4 PM to 10 PM. The event is hosted by AIDS Free Pittsburgh, and it includes free HIV testing. That night, there's also Wheel of Drag at Square Cafe, Drag Bingo at Strange Roots in Millvale, Pride trivia night at 5801 in Shadyside, Pride kickoff with Becca Brazil at Avalon Social in Southside, and a blue moon pop punk drag show called Thorpe Tour.
Suzy:Then, pride month starts on May 31st this year. I guess they said June only has 30 days. We're moving the last one to the 31st May. Riley Knox is a Beyonce impersonator. She's doing a free show at Point State Park at 5:30 on 31st, followed by the 1st ladies of disco, Norma Jean Wright, Martha Wash, and Linda Clifford.
Suzy:Also, one thing about Pittsburgh is every single event comes with at least one tattoo shop doing a flash sale or flash tattoo day. Slyfox has a pride tattoo happy hour from 4 PM to 9 PM on 31st, and there's also shit happening at 5801, p Town, Brewers, and Blue Moon. I recommend googling or going to social media for any of those bars for pride month. At 10 AM on June 1st, the annual pride march takes off from the corner of 11th Street and Liberty. This year marks 51 years of celebrating LGBTQ Pride in Pittsburgh.
Suzy:The best viewing locations include Liberty Avenue, Downtown, Andy Warhol Bridge, and West Commons as the parade reaches the festival that's happening. The festival has all day Pride events at Allegheny Commons Park, and it's advertised as something for everybody, including families. So, that's gonna be your big family friendly Pride event. We also have Pride on the Shore this weekend. That starts on May 31st.
Suzy:It goes all weekend. It's headlined by Natasha Bettenfield, KiKi Palmer, Chapel Rowan, etcetera. It's at stage a e, and they recently added JoJo Siwa to the mix. As of this recording, all tickets except for Friday general admission are sold out, but, hey, maybe a radio station or somebody is gonna do a raffle. I don't know.
Suzy:Maybe you want to tailgate it for some reason. Maybe you want to tailgate Chapel Roan. I don't know. If you do go to any of the 1st weekend of pride events, Qburg is hosting a community photo album at qburg.com, and you can use the disposable camera built into their site to take pictures, then they're gonna reveal them all on June 4th. Kind of a fun feature.
Suzy:I wonder if people will use it. Qburg's event page is also where I got all of the events that I'm using for all the episodes for this. I'm gonna link it in every single show notes. Qburg events. I believe it's a pretty comprehensive calendar of things happening in different places around Pittsburgh this year.
Suzy:Also, on the 1st Saturday, June 1st, there's a drag brunch at Blue Sky Kitchen. There's an event called Art in Bloom. The organization Dreams of Hope is celebrating their 20th anniversary, and they're doing Art in Bloom. There's a free cherry bomb day party starting at 3 PM in Graffiti Alley. We have jellyfish starting at 5 PM at Spirit.
Suzy:There's all night karaoke and parties at p town. A leather bear and pup takeover at brewers. An open vinyl night at Harold's Haunt starting at 6:30. A Pride Hoedown in Bloomfield. There's a drag show happening at 5801.
Suzy:Well known drag queen Raja is at Spirit on that night, June 1st. Real hot girl shit, it's all female emcees, is at Cobra that night. Pride DJ sets happening at Mixtape. And if you miss all of that and or want to keep the party going and or you start super late, there's a pride kickoff happening at Hot Mass starting at 11 PM on Saturday, June 1st. On Sunday, June 2nd, there's a pride brunch at 5801.
Suzy:There's a pride brunch at Slifelox Brewery. There's a pride brunch brunch at City Winery. Pride brunch. Say that three times fast. And a fundraiser for the Trevor Project happening at 412 Apotheca.
Suzy:The Loud and Proud Music Festival starts at 1 PM that day at Ormsby Avenue Cafe in Southside slash Mount Oliver area. P Town opens at 3 PM that day. There's a boat party on the Gateway Clipper starting at noon. And that's the whole first weekend. Then on Monday, there's a pride drag bingo at Trace Brewing.
Suzy:And that's all for now because Tuesday is our first episode, and I'll have more events for you then. Now for your tarot card. Today's card is the 8 of wands. It is characterized by movement, speed, and progress. Exciting, sudden changes are coming, and difficulties are falling away.
Suzy:This is the graph with the arrow going up and to the right. You are ready. You are building momentum. Thanks so much for listening today and remember to be proud of who you are. Expose the holes.
Suzy:Queer people make the world a better, more interesting place. Celebrate your differences. Support freedom for everyone. Legalize everything. Free Palestine.
Suzy:We're going to be okay because we have each other and we protect us. The first episode drops in 1 week, Tuesday, June 4th. See you then.
