(upbeat music)
Good morning.
And welcome to Morning Serial.
Okay, good morning
and welcome to Tuesday.
Well, today is video game day.
Well, I never got into
video games when I was younger,
but I don't know, maybe I should try
Atari again or Pong.
Those were actually kind of fun.
Well, it's also
national day of the panda.
And it's really hard not to love pandas.
And you know you're on a good algorithm
when you get those
super funny panda reels.
Okay, so here's a level up quote
that maybe you just needed to hear today.
John D. Rockefeller once said,
don't be afraid to give up the good
to go for the great, end quote.
And it's a powerful reminder
that comfort can be the enemy of growth.
Sometimes the biggest leaps in life
come when we're brave enough
to let go of the good enough
and reach for something bigger.
All right, well, today's
news facts and birthdays
are for July 8th.
And we're gonna start back in 1994,
when on this date, the
premiere of "Forrest Gump"
floated into theaters
like a box of chocolates.
Or maybe it was a feather.
I think it's probably a feather.
Then in 1996, my
favorite British girl group,
the Spice Girls, they
released their debut single,
"Wannabe" in the UK.
And finally in 2010,
the movie "Inception"
starring Leonardo DiCaprio,
that premiered in London as well.
Well, happy birthday to you
if today is your birthday.
You share a birthday with
actress from the Adams family,
Angelica Houston, she's 74 today.
And the late Toby Keith, he
was born on this day in 1961,
as well was the late John D. Rockefeller,
who was born on this day in 1839.
Well, the number one song
on this date back in 1982
was "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" by Chicago.
Now, this song takes me
right back to junior high
when I bought my first two CDs, right?
"Def Leppard" and the second one
was "Chicago's Greatest Hits."
And this CD got me
through all the ups and downs
of "Young Love."
Well, this is a great song
and it's an even greater greatest hit CD.
Well, speaking of some
great self-improvement,
today's self-improvement
pick is the book "Drive,"
the surprising truth
about what motivates us.
And that's by Daniel H. Pink.
And Pink ditches the old
school carrot and stick approach
to motivation and
reveals what really drives us,
autonomy, mastery, and purpose.
And if you've ever
wondered why getting a bonus
doesn't always make you feel fulfilled
or why you'll spend
hours perfecting a hobby
but drag your feet on work emails,
this book will break
all that down for you.
And that's your
morning serial for July 8th.
Hey, enjoy those funny panda videos.
And when you're done with that,
go just be your great self.
