The Sound

Firsun frontman Matt Jackson talks rebuilding after his old band, the new name "Firsun," signing with SVG Records, the "Oh Preacher" single, and Warped Tour Orlando prep.

Show Notes

Firsun frontman Matt Jackson (formerly of Post Profit) joins The Sound 228 to talk about rebuilding after leaving his old band, landing on the name "Firsun" (inspired by his dog, Pang), and locking in the lineup that's now taking the project on the road. He breaks down the band's signing with SVG Records this summer, what the deal means for distribution and future music videos, and why they chose to re-release "Oh Preacher" to radio as part of a fresh push for the January full-length. He also shares the story behind the "Oh Preacher" video, shot at a church in Iowa, and talks about prepping to play Warped Tour in Orlando this year. Plus: Lisa and Matt run down what they've been listening to, and Transient claims the Hall of Fame crown in this episode's Grudge Match against Love the Hate.

00:00:46 [Speaker 1]
Good evening.
00:00:47 [Speaker 1]
Welcome to the Sound two two eight podcast.
00:00:50 [Speaker 1]
What is good?
00:00:51 [Speaker 1]
My name is Lisa Wills.

00:00:53 [Speaker 2]
And I am Matt James.
00:00:55 [Speaker 2]
How are we all doing?

00:00:56 [Speaker 1]
Alright.
00:00:56 [Speaker 1]
We have got a great show for you tonight.
00:00:59 [Speaker 1]
First on is gonna be joining us.
00:01:02 [Speaker 1]
We've got our grudge match with transient going for a hall of fame win facing love the hate.
00:01:08 [Speaker 1]
But first, as we always do, Matt, what are you listening to?

00:01:13 [Speaker 2]
What am I listening?
00:01:14 [Speaker 2]
You're all gonna be shocked at what I've been listening to lately.

00:01:17 [Speaker 1]
I probably will.

00:01:19 [Speaker 2]
You will.
00:01:20 [Speaker 2]
It's way out of the wheelhouse of anything that, so I have been

00:01:26 [Speaker 1]
Will it Swift?

00:01:28 [Speaker 2]
No.
00:01:30 [Speaker 2]
We all know that I'm a secret Swiftie, don't we?
00:01:33 [Speaker 2]
So, no.
00:01:34 [Speaker 2]
Right.
00:01:34 [Speaker 2]
So I've been jamming, Dead Eye album again just in in our in our little rock and metal community.

00:01:40 [Speaker 2]
So because that's just a killer album.
00:01:42 [Speaker 2]
It is.
00:01:43 [Speaker 2]
But you know when you you get a little bit overwhelmed and you get a little bit stressed and you need something just to escape and just chill out to.
00:01:52 [Speaker 2]
So I've actually been listening to the Lord of the Rings soundtrack.

00:01:58 [Speaker 1]
You know what?
00:01:59 [Speaker 1]
Okay.
00:01:59 [Speaker 1]
I'm so glad that you said this because I okay.
00:02:02 [Speaker 1]
When I get, like if you've watched this podcast before, you know that I love classical music.
00:02:09 [Speaker 1]
I used to play in a symphony.

00:02:11 [Speaker 1]
Like, I I love classical music.
00:02:12 [Speaker 1]
I go to see the symphony still.
00:02:15 [Speaker 1]
And one of my favorite soundtracks is the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack.
00:02:20 [Speaker 1]
And so when I am having a particularly rough day or I've just had enough of the genre of music that I usually gravitate to, I will just make a complete one eighty and go in the complete opposite direction and put on a soundtrack of just classical music.
00:02:37 [Speaker 1]
It it it it changes your mindset.

00:02:41 [Speaker 2]
So yeah.
00:02:42 [Speaker 2]
Indeed.
00:02:42 [Speaker 2]
I just needed to you know?
00:02:43 [Speaker 2]
So I listened to all three albums of the soundtrack.
00:02:48 [Speaker 2]
And and for me Wow.

00:02:49 [Speaker 2]
The the Lord of the Rings score for the entire trilogy is the best score to ever grace our movie theaters.
00:02:59 [Speaker 2]
And sorry for the comments, guys.
00:03:01 [Speaker 2]
Fight me for it.

00:03:03 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:03:03 [Speaker 1]
I I'm interested for the for the folks in the comments.
00:03:06 [Speaker 1]
Anyway, what's up?
00:03:07 [Speaker 1]
Brian, Melissa, Chet, Tammy.
00:03:09 [Speaker 1]
What's going on, guys?

00:03:11 [Speaker 1]
Thanks for being here.
00:03:13 [Speaker 1]
And I know we already have our guests waiting in the background.
00:03:15 [Speaker 1]
Matt, we see you.
00:03:16 [Speaker 1]
We're gonna get to you in just a few minutes.
00:03:19 [Speaker 1]
But I, yeah, I would love to know if anyone in the comments listens to what are you listening to that would be, like, the polar opposite of what we would all think you would be listening to?

00:03:30 [Speaker 1]
Oh, the the last of us.

00:03:32 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:03:33 [Speaker 2]
This is a good soundtrack.

00:03:34 [Speaker 1]
What a good show.
00:03:36 [Speaker 1]
Right?
00:03:37 [Speaker 1]
Didn't we wasn't that one of the reasons?
00:03:38 [Speaker 1]
Didn't we get, like, that channel?
00:03:40 [Speaker 1]
What was it was that HBO, or was it AMC?

00:03:42 [Speaker 1]
I can't remember.

00:03:44 [Speaker 2]
No.
00:03:44 [Speaker 2]
HBO.

00:03:45 [Speaker 1]
It was HBO.
00:03:45 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:03:45 [Speaker 1]
It was, like, one of the reasons I re upped my HBO subscription.
00:03:49 [Speaker 1]
Never mind for Game of Thrones and all the different, you know

00:03:52 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.

00:03:52 [Speaker 1]
Honestly.
00:03:53 [Speaker 1]
House of the Dragon, huge fan.
00:03:56 [Speaker 1]
But, also, The Last of Us.
00:03:57 [Speaker 1]
Well, that's a really good suggestion.
00:04:00 [Speaker 1]
I, I'm gonna have to I'm gonna have to check that one out.

00:04:03 [Speaker 1]
What else have you been listening to?
00:04:05 [Speaker 1]
We got a big trip coming up in a couple weeks.
00:04:07 [Speaker 1]
I'm gonna be flying over to see you, in a couple weeks.
00:04:12 [Speaker 1]
So

00:04:12 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:04:13 [Speaker 2]
So, obviously, I'll be listening to Deno's album, but I have also because the first day that you land, you're making me do a trek.

00:04:21 [Speaker 1]
I am.

00:04:22 [Speaker 2]
So I have been listening to our boys in Rapids.

00:04:25 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:04:26 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:04:26 [Speaker 1]
I'm excited to see them.
00:04:28 [Speaker 1]
You know, it's funny.
00:04:29 [Speaker 1]
I've I've been listening to Ruinous, a local band to me, dropped an album Usher.

00:04:36 [Speaker 1]
Oh, I like that.
00:04:38 [Speaker 1]
Dropped an album on Friday.
00:04:39 [Speaker 1]
It's like their debut album.
00:04:42 [Speaker 1]
It's called the airwaves.
00:04:43 [Speaker 1]
And if you are looking for someone new, this is a female fronted band.

00:04:47 [Speaker 1]
They're right out of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
00:04:50 [Speaker 1]
Outstanding.
00:04:50 [Speaker 1]
I believe the production is done by one of the guys from If Not For Me.
00:04:55 [Speaker 1]
So please go check them out.
00:04:56 [Speaker 1]
And, also, Zanna dropped her album via crossover records, break or breakthrough.

00:05:03 [Speaker 1]
I have been listening to that so much.
00:05:05 [Speaker 1]
And our friend Kevin Halstead, who does the chord progression podcast, he just interviewed her.
00:05:11 [Speaker 1]
And you know how he always does, like, oh, name three artists that you want more people to know about?
00:05:16 [Speaker 1]
You're not gonna believe who her first pick was.

00:05:20 [Speaker 3]
Who?

00:05:21 [Speaker 1]
Lake Malice.

00:05:22 [Speaker 2]
Oh, yes.

00:05:23 [Speaker 4]
I was

00:05:24 [Speaker 5]
like another bite.

00:05:25 [Speaker 2]
We're gonna be seeing.

00:05:26 [Speaker 1]
I know.
00:05:26 [Speaker 1]
As if I didn't love Zanna enough, the fact that she's talking about Lake Malice, girl.
00:05:31 [Speaker 1]
Yes.
00:05:32 [Speaker 1]
Anyway alright.
00:05:33 [Speaker 1]
We've got a grudge match to get to.

00:05:34 [Speaker 1]
We gotta play some videos.

00:05:36 [Speaker 2]
And talk music all day long, but we have We will.
00:05:38 [Speaker 2]
We will

00:05:39 [Speaker 1]
talk forever.

00:05:39 [Speaker 2]
We we don't wanna put Matt backstage, do we?

00:05:42 [Speaker 1]
No.
00:05:42 [Speaker 1]
No.
00:05:42 [Speaker 1]
Matt is patiently waiting, so we don't wanna do that.
00:05:45 [Speaker 1]
So, we got a grudge match.
00:05:46 [Speaker 1]
We've got transient going for a hall of fame win with learn to breathe, and they are taking on love the hate, say goodbye to the past.

00:05:55 [Speaker 1]
So who are we starting with?
00:05:56 [Speaker 1]
Are we starting with

00:05:57 [Speaker 2]
We are going with love the hate, say goodbye to the past.
00:06:00 [Speaker 2]
And once the second video starts playing, you can get your comments in the video number one or video number two.
00:06:06 [Speaker 2]
I'll count them out, and then we'll announce the winner at the end of the show.
00:06:10 [Speaker 2]
So here is love the hate, say goodbye to the past.
00:06:13 [Speaker 2]
You are watching the South.

00:08:18 [Speaker 6]
I've been holding on to these chains that led me to nothing but hurt and to pain.
00:08:23 [Speaker 6]
I'm playing with fire like it was a game.
00:08:25 [Speaker 6]
I've been burned so much that I don't feel a thing.
00:08:27 [Speaker 6]
But my heart and my soul mad, they're ready to feel.
00:08:30 [Speaker 6]
I never lost faith.

00:08:31 [Speaker 6]
I know that you're real.
00:08:32 [Speaker 6]
I

00:09:32 [Speaker 2]
There we go, guys.
00:09:33 [Speaker 2]
Video number one.
00:09:34 [Speaker 2]
Love the hate with say goodbye to the past.
00:09:36 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.

00:09:37 [Speaker 3]
Good track.

00:09:38 [Speaker 1]
It is a really good track, and I love the fact that J Rod actually has his son in that video playing the younger version of him.
00:09:45 [Speaker 1]
I love that.
00:09:46 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.

00:09:46 [Speaker 3]
I love

00:09:46 [Speaker 2]
the younger version.
00:09:48 [Speaker 2]
Reply to trade.
00:09:50 [Speaker 2]
No.
00:09:50 [Speaker 2]
You cannot vote for both.

00:09:51 [Speaker 1]
You cannot.
00:09:53 [Speaker 1]
So sorry.
00:09:54 [Speaker 1]
Alright.
00:09:55 [Speaker 1]
We've got Transient going for a hall of fame win.
00:09:59 [Speaker 1]
This is your current champ.

00:10:01 [Speaker 1]
Put your vote in the comments for video number one for love to hate, video number two for transient.
00:10:07 [Speaker 1]
This is learn to breathe on the sound.

00:13:25 [Speaker 2]
Another banger.

00:13:27 [Speaker 1]
You know, Trey, I love his voice.
00:13:29 [Speaker 1]
He could literally sing the dictionary.
00:13:31 [Speaker 1]
I would show up.

00:13:32 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:13:32 [Speaker 2]
I would.
00:13:33 [Speaker 2]
It's amazing.
00:13:33 [Speaker 2]
Now Just what?
00:13:38 [Speaker 2]
Our boy, Randy, is in the house, and he's turned up just at the right time because if you wanna hear, I'm presuming it would be on the set list, both those tracks on the same night.

00:13:51 [Speaker 1]
Yes.

00:13:53 [Speaker 2]
We have a kick ass show, December 20.
00:13:56 [Speaker 2]
Rock the halls.
00:13:57 [Speaker 2]
Great benefit.
00:13:58 [Speaker 2]
And boy Randy from storage twenty four, Transient Les Face, scream out loud, not my time, rise to Phoenix, them guys love the hate and envision.
00:14:06 [Speaker 2]
It's gonna be a killer show.

00:14:07 [Speaker 2]
It's for a great cause.
00:14:09 [Speaker 2]
Get your tickets at the sanctuaryblocksy.com.
00:14:12 [Speaker 2]
Go and have a party right before Christmas.

00:14:17 [Speaker 1]
Amen to that.
00:14:19 [Speaker 1]
Speaking of speaking of great voices, we have got a great phenomenal vocalist waiting for us to bring him in.
00:14:28 [Speaker 1]
You will definitely recognize the voice.
00:14:31 [Speaker 1]
If you know anything about this podcast and you've watched it before, you know how much we loved his previous band.
00:14:39 [Speaker 1]
And we can't wait.

00:14:40 [Speaker 1]
I'm I miss him.
00:14:41 [Speaker 1]
Let's just bring him in.
00:14:43 [Speaker 1]
Versaad.

00:14:44 [Speaker 3]
Oh, we need Yo.

00:14:45 [Speaker 5]
What's up?

00:14:46 [Speaker 3]
Good.
00:14:47 [Speaker 3]
Good.
00:14:47 [Speaker 3]
Good.

00:14:48 [Speaker 5]
How y'all doing?

00:14:50 [Speaker 1]
Oh, man.
00:14:50 [Speaker 1]
I missed your face.

00:14:52 [Speaker 5]
It's been a minute.

00:14:53 [Speaker 2]
It's been a while, bro.
00:14:54 [Speaker 2]
It's been a

00:14:56 [Speaker 1]
while.
00:14:56 [Speaker 1]
It's been a minute.
00:14:58 [Speaker 1]
And I don't

00:14:58 [Speaker 5]
happened in that time too.
00:14:59 [Speaker 5]
Like, so

00:15:00 [Speaker 1]
So much has happened.
00:15:02 [Speaker 1]
I I do not know the person who's sitting next to you.
00:15:05 [Speaker 1]
Hi.

00:15:06 [Speaker 4]
Hi.
00:15:06 [Speaker 4]
I'm Aaron.
00:15:07 [Speaker 4]
Nice to meet you guys.
00:15:07 [Speaker 4]
I'm the guitar player.

00:15:08 [Speaker 1]
I know Aaron.
00:15:09 [Speaker 1]
To meet you.
00:15:10 [Speaker 1]
Welcome.

00:15:11 [Speaker 4]
Not in the video.
00:15:12 [Speaker 4]
I but

00:15:14 [Speaker 3]
That's okay.
00:15:14 [Speaker 3]
Explain when we get there.
00:15:15 [Speaker 3]
That's a lot.
00:15:16 [Speaker 3]
That's alright.

00:15:17 [Speaker 5]
We'll explain when we get there.

00:15:18 [Speaker 1]
It's okay.
00:15:19 [Speaker 1]
Actually, you can probably see your picture on my wall behind me.
00:15:23 [Speaker 1]
Oh, yeah.
00:15:28 [Speaker 1]
Got your face

00:15:29 [Speaker 5]
on the wall.
00:15:29 [Speaker 5]
Yes.
00:15:30 [Speaker 5]
That's crazy.

00:15:31 [Speaker 1]
Oh my gosh.
00:15:32 [Speaker 1]
So

00:15:32 [Speaker 3]
the one

00:15:32 [Speaker 5]
that was taken too.

00:15:34 [Speaker 2]
I've no.
00:15:35 [Speaker 2]
I've I've I've I've got a last match something.
00:15:37 [Speaker 2]
Right?
00:15:38 [Speaker 2]
There there was something that was gonna go down back before the first time

00:15:43 [Speaker 3]
getting around when

00:15:45 [Speaker 2]
this first time coming over, it's me and you can crowd surf together.

00:15:48 [Speaker 3]
Oh, shit, man.
00:15:50 [Speaker 3]
As soon

00:15:50 [Speaker 4]
as possible,

00:15:51 [Speaker 5]
man.
00:15:51 [Speaker 5]
As soon as possible.

00:15:53 [Speaker 1]
Well Oh, shit.
00:15:54 [Speaker 1]
I I you, clear you were in you were in another band.
00:15:58 [Speaker 1]
You were the vocalist for post profit, and that project dissolved.
00:16:03 [Speaker 1]
And you decided to start this new project.
00:16:05 [Speaker 1]
So tell us about how this project started, and, also, I wanna know about the band name.

00:16:13 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:16:14 [Speaker 1]
I've got an I've gotta ask.
00:16:15 [Speaker 1]
I normally don't ask about a band name question, but in this case, I'm definitely going to because it's so unusual.

00:16:21 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:16:21 [Speaker 5]
So first off, we'll we'll start with the other one first.
00:16:25 [Speaker 5]
There's a good story behind the band name.
00:16:27 [Speaker 5]
But, so, yeah, I think it was in it was 2025, like, March 2025.
00:16:34 [Speaker 5]
Things just kinda went downhill with post profit, and I had to leave mainly for, like, my mental health and everything.

00:16:40 [Speaker 5]
You know?
00:16:41 [Speaker 5]
And it was a lot to leave behind, so it was, like, going through the five stages of grief pretty much for the rest of that year.
00:16:49 [Speaker 5]
And at that point, I was already writing for the next record, which was supposed to be the next post profit record, but it was just songs that I've, like, culminated and just kinda grind it out myself.
00:17:01 [Speaker 5]
And then, from there, the first song, if we want it, was written before.
00:17:07 [Speaker 5]
And once I left and was ready to do my own project, I was already like, okay.

00:17:12 [Speaker 5]
Let's let's just go ahead and go with that song to start off with.
00:17:16 [Speaker 5]
And so from there on, it was just, like, songs that I had, like, in the like, as ammunition in the chamber.

00:17:23 [Speaker 3]
But In

00:17:24 [Speaker 1]
the hopper.
00:17:24 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.

00:17:25 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:17:25 [Speaker 5]
And, like, for for instance, one of the songs off our record is, like, 13 years old.
00:17:30 [Speaker 5]
So, like You're

00:17:31 [Speaker 1]
not you're not the first artist to do that, though.
00:17:33 [Speaker 1]
You know?
00:17:34 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.

00:17:34 [Speaker 5]
And let's be honest.
00:17:35 [Speaker 5]
Like,

00:17:37 [Speaker 2]
being an artist, whether it's you singly or or as a group as a whole, you never stop

00:17:44 [Speaker 5]
writing.
00:17:44 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:17:44 [Speaker 5]
No.
00:17:44 [Speaker 5]
Honestly.
00:17:45 [Speaker 5]
And I think for going through that situation, that was, like, what helped me to get through that because it was just one of those things that there was a lot of songs that I was sitting on in post profit that just didn't make the cut, so they just were just sitting on nothing.

00:18:00 [Speaker 5]
Like, put them in a vault or whatever.
00:18:03 [Speaker 5]
And, like, I knew those songs had a lot of potential, so just like, you know, now is finally the time to, like, get those songs out.
00:18:11 [Speaker 5]
And, like, there's, like, a whole theme with the record.
00:18:13 [Speaker 5]
It's kinda like, you know, lost songs being some type of thing.
00:18:16 [Speaker 5]
So, yeah, pretty much kinda trucked out that record.

00:18:20 [Speaker 5]
I I moved to Florida.
00:18:22 [Speaker 5]
I got married.
00:18:23 [Speaker 5]
It was, like, a whole whole lot.
00:18:24 [Speaker 5]
I got married.

00:18:28 [Speaker 1]
Congratulations.
00:18:28 [Speaker 1]
You've been with me for a long time.

00:18:31 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:18:31 [Speaker 5]
I've been there I've been here.
00:18:33 [Speaker 5]
It'll be it'll be two years in December.
00:18:36 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:18:36 [Speaker 5]
Two years.

00:18:37 [Speaker 1]
No.
00:18:37 [Speaker 1]
But with your wife, you've been with her a while.

00:18:40 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:18:41 [Speaker 5]
So we we got married back in November, and we were talking back in September, like, two years ago.
00:18:49 [Speaker 5]
So it it's been a long time.
00:18:51 [Speaker 5]
And it's like ever since we started talking, we had never stopped.
00:18:55 [Speaker 5]
So yeah.

00:18:57 [Speaker 5]
And she's in the next room somewhere.
00:18:58 [Speaker 5]
Hi, baby.

00:18:59 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:19:00 [Speaker 1]
Finding your finding your person is a great thing.

00:19:03 [Speaker 5]
Absolutely.
00:19:03 [Speaker 5]
And, honestly, it helped out even a lot with, because she has definitely been supportive throughout the the whole transition of, of leading post profit and writing more music and stuff like that.
00:19:16 [Speaker 5]
And which leads up to the next thing Right.
00:19:20 [Speaker 5]
About the name.
00:19:21 [Speaker 5]
So

00:19:22 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:19:22 [Speaker 1]
First one is so unusual.
00:19:24 [Speaker 1]
And Yeah.
00:19:25 [Speaker 1]
I believe me, I have wracked my brain.
00:19:27 [Speaker 1]
I have Googled.

00:19:28 [Speaker 1]
I have hit up chat GPT, and I am sort of coming up empty.

00:19:34 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:19:34 [Speaker 5]
They

00:19:35 [Speaker 4]
answer is so funny because Oh,

00:19:37 [Speaker 5]
they're gonna love it.
00:19:39 [Speaker 5]
So, like, okay.
00:19:40 [Speaker 5]
For instance, I mean, you were talking about that.
00:19:42 [Speaker 5]
So so post profit was, freaking band name generator.
00:19:46 [Speaker 5]
So this one actually came off the dome.

00:19:49 [Speaker 5]
Actually, my wife was the one that, like, kinda signed off on it.
00:19:53 [Speaker 5]
But so we got a dog, last year, and his name is Pang.
00:19:59 [Speaker 5]
He's actually on the album cover.
00:20:02 [Speaker 5]
And we were outside playing with him.
00:20:04 [Speaker 5]
He was just a wee little dog.

00:20:05 [Speaker 5]
He was small and cute.
00:20:08 [Speaker 5]
And we, were outside, and I said something else like, oh, my little first son first son.
00:20:13 [Speaker 5]
And I was like, that actually kinda sticks.
00:20:16 [Speaker 5]
So what about what if we just she was like, what if we just change the u to an I and then do it like s u n?

00:20:24 [Speaker 4]
You heard his name.

00:20:25 [Speaker 5]
Oh, you heard his name.
00:20:26 [Speaker 5]
There he is.
00:20:30 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:20:30 [Speaker 5]
He's, and so that just kinda stuck and went with that and, got some visuals and logos for it and everything.
00:20:38 [Speaker 5]
And so yeah.

00:20:40 [Speaker 5]
So he he is the mascot of the band.

00:20:43 [Speaker 1]
Oh my gosh.
00:20:44 [Speaker 1]
So cute.
00:20:45 [Speaker 1]
And then how did you two hook up?

00:20:49 [Speaker 4]
So oh, you want me I can answer that.

00:20:51 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:20:51 [Speaker 5]
Go on.
00:20:51 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:20:51 [Speaker 5]
Go on.

00:20:51 [Speaker 4]
So pretty much, I I live where he ended up moving to.
00:20:55 [Speaker 4]
And so I got a text from a buddy at the time, and he's like, hey.
00:20:59 [Speaker 4]
I got offered, drums for a gig, but I don't think I'm gonna take it.
00:21:04 [Speaker 4]
And, so he's like, if you wanna do it, it might be up your alley.
00:21:08 [Speaker 4]
I listen to music.

00:21:08 [Speaker 4]
I'm like, yeah.
00:21:09 [Speaker 4]
Yeah.
00:21:10 [Speaker 4]
This is totally my my style.
00:21:11 [Speaker 4]
I'll do this.
00:21:12 [Speaker 4]
So, originally, I was gonna do drums for first son.

00:21:14 [Speaker 4]
And then,

00:21:15 [Speaker 5]
Learned, like, four songs on I

00:21:17 [Speaker 4]
learned two.
00:21:17 [Speaker 4]
Four songs on drums, bought a whole drum kit, like, a new drum kit.
00:21:23 [Speaker 4]
And then, the guitarist that's in the video, he ended up having to leave because he has, like, a job in a certain area.
00:21:29 [Speaker 4]
He's wanting to, like, keep his job and stuff.
00:21:30 [Speaker 4]
So, at that point, we needed a guitar player too, and I'm like, well, I have, like, tons of money and gear with guitar because, I mean, that's what I've done my whole time.

00:21:40 [Speaker 4]
Like, my previous tour experience, like, I used to tour with Johnny Craig.
00:21:44 [Speaker 4]
Like, that was my so I spent all my money on, like, guitar stuff.

00:21:48 [Speaker 5]
Dude shreds too.
00:21:49 [Speaker 5]
Like, he he was shredding on drums, and then he started doing guitar.
00:21:52 [Speaker 5]
And I was like, alright.
00:21:53 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:21:53 [Speaker 5]
No.

00:21:54 [Speaker 5]
This is perfect.
00:21:54 [Speaker 5]
So

00:21:55 [Speaker 4]
Yeah.
00:21:55 [Speaker 4]
So pretty much, that's how I ended up on guitar.
00:21:57 [Speaker 4]
And then now we're here.
00:21:58 [Speaker 4]
We've been just doing gigs and shows and all kinds of stuff.
00:22:02 [Speaker 4]
And Yeah.

00:22:02 [Speaker 3]
It's

00:22:03 [Speaker 4]
I've been I've I think it's almost been a year now since I've come into the project too.
00:22:07 [Speaker 4]
So

00:22:07 [Speaker 3]
Yeah.

00:22:07 [Speaker 4]
It's been a little bit.
00:22:08 [Speaker 4]
We just haven't gotten any, like, new videos or stuff yet, like, with music videos yet.
00:22:12 [Speaker 4]
But

00:22:13 [Speaker 5]
We're working on one.
00:22:14 [Speaker 5]
Yes.
00:22:14 [Speaker 5]
But

00:22:15 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:22:15 [Speaker 1]
I was scouring your socials, and I was like, what's going on?

00:22:21 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.

00:22:25 [Speaker 1]
What's going on?
00:22:27 [Speaker 1]
Because it looks like you had not too long ago.
00:22:29 [Speaker 1]
Right?
00:22:29 [Speaker 1]
You had a show a local show.

00:22:31 [Speaker 3]
Mhmm.
00:22:31 [Speaker 3]
I don't

00:22:31 [Speaker 1]
know what's the name of the bar now.
00:22:33 [Speaker 1]
Oh, it's, winter something.

00:22:36 [Speaker 3]
Winter Park.

00:22:36 [Speaker 5]
West was it West Inn?

00:22:38 [Speaker 4]
It's in, it's in Orlando.
00:22:40 [Speaker 4]
Right?

00:22:42 [Speaker 1]
Yes.

00:22:43 [Speaker 4]
Yeah.
00:22:43 [Speaker 4]
So it's probably West Inn.

00:22:44 [Speaker 5]
It's probably West Inn.
00:22:45 [Speaker 5]
West End Cove.

00:22:45 [Speaker 7]
Who's the

00:22:46 [Speaker 1]
restaurant there?
00:22:47 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:22:47 [Speaker 1]
There was yeah.
00:22:47 [Speaker 1]
I saw there was a venue that I was familiar with down that way, and I was like, oh.
00:22:51 [Speaker 1]
I was like, okay.

00:22:52 [Speaker 1]
And then it sort of just went really like, there was nothing.
00:22:54 [Speaker 1]
And I was like, Matt.

00:22:59 [Speaker 5]
We we've been we've been working behind the scenes working behind the scenes.

00:23:02 [Speaker 3]
Okay.

00:23:03 [Speaker 5]
Things we're putting together.
00:23:04 [Speaker 5]
So because

00:23:06 [Speaker 1]
Go ahead.

00:23:07 [Speaker 5]
Oh, yeah.
00:23:08 [Speaker 5]
Because we've we've whenever the first installment of, like, oh, preacher and speaker out, it was a totally different lineup.
00:23:17 [Speaker 5]
It was, Miles from Left on Red, Steph from, Backhand Blue, and then my buddy, Alex, who was in a bank who's in a bank called Heavy Thoughts for back in Texas.
00:23:26 [Speaker 5]
And, you know, it was just we were all excited to do it.
00:23:29 [Speaker 5]
And, you know, life was life ing, and we were all in different states.

00:23:33 [Speaker 5]
So, like, the reality kind of sunk in.
00:23:36 [Speaker 5]
And, I mean, everybody's kinda went on ahead and did their own thing.
00:23:40 [Speaker 5]
We're all good.
00:23:41 [Speaker 5]
Everybody's good.
00:23:42 [Speaker 5]
But this whole back half of last year was really just having the lineup and and kind of honing in on the sound and and the live aspect of it.

00:23:55 [Speaker 5]
So, yeah, the lineup we have now is is probably my favorite, honestly.
00:24:01 [Speaker 5]
All them fantastic musicians, and we're all in the same state even though we are still a little ways from each other.

00:24:07 [Speaker 4]
They're pretty close.
00:24:07 [Speaker 4]
Yeah.
00:24:08 [Speaker 4]
They were, like, mostly so we're kinda, like, spread out.
00:24:10 [Speaker 4]
So, like, me and Matt, like, what that's why we're even together right now.
00:24:14 [Speaker 4]
We're in the same city, and then our drummer Mhmm.

00:24:16 [Speaker 4]
James, he's in Orlando, and our bass player, Johnny, is in Tampa.
00:24:20 [Speaker 4]
So we're we're a little spread out, but we we meet up in Orlando typically.
00:24:24 [Speaker 4]
Like and like he said, most of the stuff we've been doing this year is mainly just prepping for, like, live shows.
00:24:30 [Speaker 4]
Like, we we start building all kinds of stuff for the set and, prepping for warp tour too.
00:24:35 [Speaker 4]
We're playing warp tour this year, which is gonna be really, really fun.

00:24:39 [Speaker 4]
So we're excited for that.

00:24:40 [Speaker 1]
What?

00:24:41 [Speaker 2]
Gonna be fun.
00:24:42 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:24:42 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.

00:24:43 [Speaker 1]
You're playing work tour Orlando?
00:24:45 [Speaker 1]
Is it no.
00:24:46 [Speaker 1]
It's not Orlando.
00:24:47 [Speaker 1]
Is is it or is it Orlando?

00:24:48 [Speaker 5]
Orlando.
00:24:49 [Speaker 5]
Mhmm.

00:24:49 [Speaker 1]
Oh my gosh.
00:24:51 [Speaker 1]
That's a huge opportunity.

00:24:53 [Speaker 5]
It's a big one.
00:24:54 [Speaker 5]
It's like we're

00:24:55 [Speaker 4]
very excited.

00:24:56 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:24:56 [Speaker 5]
Very, very, like, like, lost some sleep over it.

00:24:59 [Speaker 4]
It's been, it's been a few years for both of me and him since we played some good shows.
00:25:03 [Speaker 4]
So we're like,

00:25:05 [Speaker 3]
thank god.
00:25:06 [Speaker 3]
Yeah.
00:25:06 [Speaker 3]
Because

00:25:06 [Speaker 5]
they're like, my first show my first show back I mean, with First Sun, like, we play in a cover cover band together.
00:25:12 [Speaker 5]
So we do we we do some, like, shows around the area.
00:25:17 [Speaker 5]
But, like, first show back, like, with full original band, it was a little it was, like, a little over a year.
00:25:24 [Speaker 5]
So it it it's been a while.
00:25:27 [Speaker 5]
So getting back hopping back into the saddle and getting things going again.

00:25:31 [Speaker 5]
You know?

00:25:32 [Speaker 1]
Well, you came out with your album in January.
00:25:35 [Speaker 1]
Mhmm.
00:25:36 [Speaker 1]
You know?
00:25:36 [Speaker 1]
So it's been a minute.
00:25:37 [Speaker 1]
But I know that you've just sort of rereleased Oh Preacher for radio.

00:25:43 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:25:43 [Speaker 1]
We're going through a radio we're going through a radio campaign right now.
00:25:47 [Speaker 1]
So I'm curious.
00:25:48 [Speaker 1]
Was that because of warp tour?
00:25:49 [Speaker 1]
You sort of wanted to breathe new life into it?

00:25:53 [Speaker 5]
I think it was a little bit more than Warped Tour because it was already an idea.
00:25:57 [Speaker 5]
We are with SVG Records now, so it was already kind of the idea that we talked about of, like, giving the album.
00:26:02 [Speaker 5]
Like, it's like, putting it out there for because there was a lot of things that were just missed when it, you know, originally came out.
00:26:10 [Speaker 5]
Sure.
00:26:10 [Speaker 5]
And when it came out, we pretty much had nothing.

00:26:14 [Speaker 5]
You know?
00:26:14 [Speaker 5]
We were just I was putting it all on Spotify and

00:26:17 [Speaker 4]
Independent.

00:26:17 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:26:18 [Speaker 5]
Super independent.
00:26:19 [Speaker 5]
And even though it was fun, it was definitely a lot of hard work with, like, videos and having to go through lineup change and getting gear for live and just all all the stuff just mixing in.
00:26:31 [Speaker 5]
You know?
00:26:32 [Speaker 5]
It took a little bit.

00:26:33 [Speaker 5]
And then, and pretty much really just, like, yeah, just honing in on, like, who First Son is now.
00:26:42 [Speaker 5]
Because I know a lot of people have asked questions, and a lot of people have asked me questions about the video and the lineup and stuff like that.
00:26:48 [Speaker 5]
And so, you know, it's all starting to clear up now.

00:26:52 [Speaker 1]
Okay.
00:26:53 [Speaker 1]
Well, I do have a lot more questions for you, but we have the video for o preacher.
00:26:58 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:26:59 [Speaker 1]
So I think that we're gonna go ahead and let it rip.
00:27:02 [Speaker 1]
But first, do you wanna tell us anything about the the video?

00:27:06 [Speaker 1]
You can either tell us everything or tell us nothing.

00:27:09 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:27:10 [Speaker 5]
So that video was actually shot in Iowa.
00:27:13 [Speaker 5]
It's actually shout out to Seth.
00:27:15 [Speaker 5]
He was, there was a guy he knew out there.
00:27:17 [Speaker 5]
His name is Joe Gibbs, and he does his own videos, vid pictures, weddings, video like, pretty much the whole thing.

00:27:26 [Speaker 5]
And he he had a church out there that he knew that they would allow, and it was huge.
00:27:32 [Speaker 5]
And we actually shot that video and speak in one day.
00:27:38 [Speaker 5]
Like, we came in, rehearsed the song.
00:27:40 [Speaker 5]
The next day, we were shooting the video.

00:27:42 [Speaker 1]
So like a man with a plan.
00:27:44 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.

00:27:44 [Speaker 5]
It was it was kind of it was kinda nerve wracking because it was like, you know, I was hopping back in.
00:27:50 [Speaker 5]
Like, for me, it didn't feel like soon, but for a lot of people, they were, like, you know, getting back in into it soon.
00:27:56 [Speaker 5]
So, you know, just wanted to keep everything going, and, like, everybody knows that, you know, I didn't go nowhere.
00:28:03 [Speaker 5]
You know?
00:28:03 [Speaker 5]
Just had to had to take some time and, you know, reinvent myself and, you know, just everything.

00:28:11 [Speaker 5]
So

00:28:12 [Speaker 1]
Alright.
00:28:13 [Speaker 1]
Matt, you ready?

00:28:14 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:28:14 [Speaker 5]
Let's do it.

00:28:15 [Speaker 1]
Alright.

00:28:17 [Speaker 2]
The old creature, and you're watching the sound.

00:28:35 [Speaker 6]
They say bring your chairs down to the water.
00:28:41 [Speaker 6]
But I can't seem

00:31:10 [Speaker 7]
If we can't all come to an agreement on something, it's not going to happen.
00:31:14 [Speaker 7]
That's really just how it is.
00:31:16 [Speaker 7]
Okay.
00:31:17 [Speaker 7]
Then we'll just go ahead and take a song out.

00:31:21 [Speaker 1]
Damn.

00:31:22 [Speaker 3]
Well, I

00:31:23 [Speaker 1]
I think It is.

00:31:24 [Speaker 2]
Alright.
00:31:25 [Speaker 2]
Lisa, you said it before they came in was, you know, Matt's vocals.
00:31:31 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:31:32 [Speaker 2]
I always say, like, in a band, the the vocalist is the most unique instrument in the band.
00:31:40 [Speaker 2]
And if I was to put a band together, you'd definitely be up on top of the list.

00:31:45 [Speaker 5]
Hell, yeah, man.
00:31:46 [Speaker 5]
Thank you.
00:31:47 [Speaker 5]
Thank you, bro.

00:31:48 [Speaker 2]
Those vocals, man.
00:31:49 [Speaker 2]
Like yeah.
00:31:52 [Speaker 2]
They're insane.
00:31:53 [Speaker 2]
I love you.

00:31:53 [Speaker 1]
It shows the range.
00:31:55 [Speaker 1]
Right?
00:31:55 [Speaker 1]
Because you can just you can sing cleans.
00:31:58 [Speaker 1]
You can sing hearts and you beautifully together.
00:32:00 [Speaker 1]
I mean, I've seen you live a few times.

00:32:03 [Speaker 1]
And not only that, but you put on a damn electric performance.
00:32:07 [Speaker 1]
I mean, you are just you're a maniac on that stage.
00:32:11 [Speaker 1]
If you are not feeling if you're not picking up what first son is putting down, like, we're we need to have a chat.
00:32:17 [Speaker 1]
You know what I mean?
00:32:18 [Speaker 1]
Like, you are just electric.

00:32:20 [Speaker 1]
You you just you are a great front man, man.
00:32:23 [Speaker 1]
You really are.

00:32:24 [Speaker 4]
Thank

00:32:24 [Speaker 5]
you so much.

00:32:25 [Speaker 7]
Yeah.
00:32:25 [Speaker 7]
Thank you.

00:32:26 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:32:26 [Speaker 1]
So you signed, you said, to a label.
00:32:29 [Speaker 1]
When did that happen?

00:32:31 [Speaker 5]
That happened we announced in August.
00:32:34 [Speaker 5]
Correct?
00:32:35 [Speaker 5]
Or, like, the end of July.

00:32:36 [Speaker 4]
I'd say, like, June or July.
00:32:38 [Speaker 4]
Yeah.

00:32:38 [Speaker 2]
June, like, the

00:32:39 [Speaker 5]
end of July or something like that.
00:32:40 [Speaker 5]
It was something.
00:32:40 [Speaker 5]
Yep.
00:32:41 [Speaker 5]
So, yeah, it's it's it's still freshly new.

00:32:44 [Speaker 1]
And so what what doors have that opened for you?
00:32:47 [Speaker 1]
Does that open up potential financing for additional music videos?
00:32:51 [Speaker 1]
Does it help with distribution?
00:32:53 [Speaker 1]
What is that what are they doing for you?

00:32:56 [Speaker 5]
A lot of it is distribution.
00:32:58 [Speaker 5]
There's a few things we got in the works for music videos.
00:33:00 [Speaker 5]
So, oh, yeah.
00:33:02 [Speaker 5]
A lot of his distribution and trying to get, like, the album, the love that it that we think it's worth.
00:33:07 [Speaker 5]
And, you know, just all the songs that we have on there, you know, we we really do believe in those songs.

00:33:15 [Speaker 5]
So, yeah, pretty much just getting it out anywhere we can, getting people to hear it.

00:33:21 [Speaker 1]
You know, I was listening, to it earlier today while I was at work.
00:33:26 [Speaker 1]
Mhmm.
00:33:27 [Speaker 1]
I I really I love the whole the whole gamut that you go through on this album.
00:33:31 [Speaker 1]
Was there a concept behind it, or were you just literally emptying your soul of all the things that you really felt like you needed to say but didn't have the opportunity to?

00:33:43 [Speaker 5]
I think it was a little bit of both.
00:33:45 [Speaker 5]
There's definitely in in the songs.
00:33:48 [Speaker 5]
And if you listen closely to the lyrics, you'll you'll definitely get the vibe.
00:33:52 [Speaker 5]
And, it's kinda pretty much the culmination of what I've dealt with over the, like, the last seven to ten years and just realizing who I am as a person and realizing how much I love to do this and using this as my outlet to really just get out what I'm going through.
00:34:09 [Speaker 5]
Because, you know, for a lot of people, sometimes I like for a lot of people and even myself, you know, it's really hard to just get your words out by itself.

00:34:19 [Speaker 5]
You know?
00:34:19 [Speaker 5]
Whether it comes off the wrong way or people take it the wrong way or whatever like that.
00:34:24 [Speaker 5]
You know?
00:34:24 [Speaker 5]
And and just music is, like, my outlet to be as straightforward as I can as possible.
00:34:30 [Speaker 5]
You know?

00:34:31 [Speaker 5]
No really no really not really any gimmicks around it or anything like that.
00:34:35 [Speaker 5]
You know?
00:34:35 [Speaker 5]
And just really kinda building a universe where, you know, people can just dive into and feel like they're being heard as well because, you know, it's a lot of the stuff on the songs and and the content that we that we talk about is, is way more common than you think in this day and age right now.
00:34:57 [Speaker 5]
And whether I've heard stories from them hearing the song or just stories in general over any platform, you know, it it really does you know, my hope is that everybody can listen to it and, like, realize that, you know, this is something that, you know, artists deal with on a daily basis no matter how big or small.
00:35:19 [Speaker 5]
You know?

00:35:19 [Speaker 5]
Everybody's got the shit they gotta go through.
00:35:21 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:35:22 [Speaker 5]
And, you know, the only difference is is that this is the outlet that we have to really put it out there.
00:35:28 [Speaker 5]
So, yeah, with the with the record and the name Fortitude, that's actually we got that from, One Tree Hill, by the way, if anybody watches One Tree Hill.
00:35:39 [Speaker 5]
But I

00:35:40 [Speaker 4]
didn't even know that until

00:35:43 [Speaker 1]
I've never watched it ever, but I know that Matt James has watched One Tree Hill One Tree Hill.
00:35:48 [Speaker 1]
So

00:35:50 [Speaker 3]
Yeah.
00:35:50 [Speaker 3]
That that that's

00:35:51 [Speaker 5]
that that's my shit.
00:35:52 [Speaker 5]
Dude, me and my wife did the marathon, the whole the whole shebang.
00:35:55 [Speaker 5]
You know?
00:35:55 [Speaker 5]
That's my that's my feel good show.

00:35:57 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.

00:35:57 [Speaker 5]
Like, if I'm ever feeling low, I'm like, let's put on some one tree hill.
00:36:00 [Speaker 5]
Even if I don't, like, watch all the episodes and put it in the background, you know,

00:36:04 [Speaker 3]
it's it's chill.
00:36:05 [Speaker 3]
So Yeah.

00:36:06 [Speaker 1]
No.
00:36:07 [Speaker 1]
I think, you know, when we talk about mental health, obviously, you know, over the past several years, I think especially since the pandemic, it's really come to the forefront for a lot of people and talking about it, you know, in a outward way.
00:36:19 [Speaker 1]
And especially, I think, for men.
00:36:21 [Speaker 1]
I think men really hide their own mental health because they're supposed to be strong ones.
00:36:28 [Speaker 1]
Right?

00:36:29 [Speaker 1]
Right.
00:36:29 [Speaker 1]
At the end of the day, we're all just people.

00:36:32 [Speaker 2]
It is.
00:36:32 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.

00:36:33 [Speaker 1]
Man, woman, doesn't matter.
00:36:34 [Speaker 1]
Whatever you are, however you identify doesn't matter.
00:36:38 [Speaker 1]
It just we all feel something as human beings.
00:36:41 [Speaker 1]
I know Matt James, I know you could talk more about men's mental health because you've had your struggles.

00:36:46 [Speaker 2]
Definitely.
00:36:47 [Speaker 2]
Like, it it's the power of music.
00:36:49 [Speaker 2]
And, like, for you guys' lives, it's getting that anger, hurt, you know, even even the happy stuff out there.
00:36:57 [Speaker 2]
But that music is then helping other people like us fans and stuff.
00:37:02 [Speaker 2]
Like, I I was struggling, couple years ago.

00:37:06 [Speaker 2]
I was really struggling really bad.
00:37:08 [Speaker 2]
My mental health Lisa knows all about it.
00:37:10 [Speaker 2]
I went and saw Shine Down, and I walked out of that concert with a different outlook on life.

00:37:16 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.

00:37:17 [Speaker 2]
You know?
00:37:17 [Speaker 2]
And that's the power of music, and that's and you could be writing something about what you're going through.
00:37:23 [Speaker 2]
But, like, say me as a fan, I could interpret that and put that into a life situation that I've been through or I'm going through at the time.

00:37:31 [Speaker 3]
And I

00:37:32 [Speaker 2]
think it's just powerful, man.
00:37:33 [Speaker 2]
I just that's why I love this scene so much.

00:37:37 [Speaker 1]
Music saves.
00:37:38 [Speaker 1]
It saves lives.

00:37:39 [Speaker 5]
Absolutely.
00:37:40 [Speaker 5]
And I think, like, people call it the universal language, and I think that is just, like, the perfect depiction for it because there's so many things that, you know and I guarantee you people out there will be like, oh, nobody under will understand what I'm going through until they hear that one song that's, like, really in-depth and just really speaks to them.
00:37:59 [Speaker 5]
And it's like, oh, yeah.
00:38:01 [Speaker 5]
And so, I mean, that was kinda the goal going into this record.
00:38:06 [Speaker 5]
The goal like, there's pretty much there was two, and it was one was to, like, heal myself through music and then, you know, also be able to, get that out to everybody else.

00:38:18 [Speaker 5]
And, I mean, the record's pretty much it covers pretty much all the the feelings and emotions.
00:38:24 [Speaker 5]
There's a lot of pissed offness.
00:38:27 [Speaker 5]
You know, there's questions being asked.
00:38:29 [Speaker 5]
There's questioning yourself.
00:38:32 [Speaker 5]
There's, you know, making it out of what you've been going through, hence the last track, Fortitude.

00:38:40 [Speaker 5]
And, you know, kind of just, like, explaining, like, myself and really just pouring myself out there.
00:38:51 [Speaker 5]
So yeah.
00:38:52 [Speaker 5]
And even the next stuff that we're we're so we are we are already writing for another record, and we have a few surprises coming up pretty soon for this current record that we're working on.
00:39:09 [Speaker 5]
I don't wanna really spoil it super yet.
00:39:12 [Speaker 5]
I wouldn't say We gotta

00:39:13 [Speaker 4]
leave it.
00:39:13 [Speaker 4]
We gotta we just wanna be walking for it.

00:39:16 [Speaker 5]
We we

00:39:16 [Speaker 3]
we gotta Yeah.
00:39:18 [Speaker 3]
Like,

00:39:19 [Speaker 5]
we're definitely cooking.

00:39:21 [Speaker 1]
Well, but but this the record that you've already put out, right, you've just signed the label, It definitely deserves a whole lot more love, and I I would love to see you choose some more singles, like, to go ahead and and put, like, a little bit of oomph behind to get more out of that for you and to get more attention for your band because I think you really deserve it.

00:39:44 [Speaker 5]
Thank you.

00:39:44 [Speaker 1]
I

00:39:45 [Speaker 7]
Yeah.
00:39:45 [Speaker 7]
That's the hope.

00:39:46 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:39:46 [Speaker 5]
There's a few there's quite a few songs on there that Yeah.
00:39:49 [Speaker 5]
We're all just like, yeah.
00:39:50 [Speaker 5]
We we need and even us playing it live, even us starting out playing it live.

00:39:55 [Speaker 4]
Playing with fire.

00:39:57 [Speaker 3]
Playing with fire.
00:39:57 [Speaker 3]
Playing with fire.

00:39:58 [Speaker 4]
Playing with fire ship in a single.
00:40:00 [Speaker 4]
It really

00:40:00 [Speaker 5]
should have.
00:40:01 [Speaker 5]
Playing with fire

00:40:02 [Speaker 4]
ship in a single.
00:40:03 [Speaker 4]
Yeah.

00:40:03 [Speaker 1]
There was a few on

00:40:04 [Speaker 5]
there that should have been a single.
00:40:06 [Speaker 5]
I think real real love made real love never hit home.
00:40:10 [Speaker 5]
Single too.
00:40:10 [Speaker 5]
Well, that was a single, I think, whenever the album dropped.

00:40:13 [Speaker 2]
Okay.
00:40:14 [Speaker 2]
Okay.

00:40:14 [Speaker 5]
But at that point, the whole album dropped, so it's not, like, really a single.

00:40:19 [Speaker 3]
But yeah.

00:40:20 [Speaker 1]
We have an extra guest.

00:40:22 [Speaker 2]
Yes.
00:40:22 [Speaker 2]
We've got someone to come and say hello to you, Matt.
00:40:25 [Speaker 2]
Okay.
00:40:26 [Speaker 2]
It's mister Hackman.
00:40:27 [Speaker 2]
Hello,

00:40:28 [Speaker 1]
man.
00:40:28 [Speaker 1]
What's

00:40:28 [Speaker 5]
going on, man?
00:40:29 [Speaker 5]
How you doing?
00:40:31 [Speaker 5]
I'm good.
00:40:31 [Speaker 5]
How are you?
00:40:32 [Speaker 5]
Doing good, bro.

00:40:34 [Speaker 5]
I was like, yeah.
00:40:35 [Speaker 5]
I know I knew you I knew you were I knew you were busy, but I was like, I figured you would already been on and then hopped off.
00:40:40 [Speaker 5]
But, hey, it's good to see you now, man.

00:40:43 [Speaker 3]
You too.
00:40:43 [Speaker 3]
I had to I had to take care of some business.
00:40:45 [Speaker 3]
I had to I had to lock in our November issue cover or for the magazine.
00:40:49 [Speaker 3]
So I was taking care of that real quick.
00:40:51 [Speaker 3]
So Okay.

00:40:53 [Speaker 3]
I am so glad to have you guys on the show, and, I as as always, appreciate you giving us the opportunity to have you guys on the show.
00:41:02 [Speaker 3]
So I don't know what y'all are talking about, so I'm not gonna ask any questions.
00:41:05 [Speaker 3]
I was just making sure I hopped on and said hi and said thank you.

00:41:08 [Speaker 1]
So We were just talking about the album and them signing to a label.
00:41:13 [Speaker 1]
We are talking about pushing some more love into those songs, and they're cooking in the studio.
00:41:18 [Speaker 1]
We're, like, doing all kinds of stuff, man.

00:41:20 [Speaker 3]
They're busy.
00:41:21 [Speaker 3]
I love it.
00:41:21 [Speaker 3]
I can't can't can't wait to hear it.
00:41:24 [Speaker 3]
So

00:41:24 [Speaker 5]
Hear it.
00:41:25 [Speaker 5]
For sure.

00:41:26 [Speaker 3]
I know I know I know when you fir I know the first time you released this song, we've reached out, and we were trying to do trying to get you on that.

00:41:34 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.

00:41:34 [Speaker 3]
And then, and then the label signing, and you re rereleased it.
00:41:38 [Speaker 3]
And I'm like, alright.
00:41:38 [Speaker 3]
We're hopping back on it.
00:41:39 [Speaker 3]
So

00:41:41 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:41:41 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:41:41 [Speaker 5]
There was a lot of stuff going on in that first one.
00:41:43 [Speaker 5]
There was a lot of things going on.
00:41:45 [Speaker 5]
We were just we were just talking about it, actually.

00:41:47 [Speaker 5]
So

00:41:48 [Speaker 3]
I'll go back and rewatch.
00:41:51 [Speaker 3]
Yeah.
00:41:52 [Speaker 3]
Are you you're gonna you you you have to dig back into it.
00:41:55 [Speaker 3]
But, like I said, I just wanna I just wanna say thank you for, joining us, and, and as always, thank you for, your support of us as well.

00:42:04 [Speaker 5]
Absolutely, man.
00:42:05 [Speaker 5]
Thank you for the love.

00:42:06 [Speaker 3]
Alright.
00:42:06 [Speaker 3]
We will talk to y'all later.

00:42:08 [Speaker 5]
You have a good one, man.

00:42:09 [Speaker 1]
Thanks, Kevin.

00:42:10 [Speaker 3]
Good night, dude.
00:42:11 [Speaker 3]
Bye.

00:42:14 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:42:14 [Speaker 1]
In case in case you're wondering, Kevin is at the sanctuary tonight.
00:42:20 [Speaker 1]
Plush is playing with Major Moment, and so he's there, because we're sponsoring the show.

00:42:27 [Speaker 6]
So

00:42:28 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.

00:42:29 [Speaker 2]
And, yeah, going off the back of what Kevin just said there, if there's anything you need from us at the sound Ever.
00:42:36 [Speaker 2]
Just message me, message Kevin, message Lisa, and we'll make it happen.

00:42:40 [Speaker 5]
Thank y'all so much.

00:42:41 [Speaker 1]
There is yeah.
00:42:42 [Speaker 1]
It's about nothing that I would not do to help you, dude.
00:42:46 [Speaker 1]
Nothing.
00:42:47 [Speaker 1]
Thank you.
00:42:47 [Speaker 1]
Thank you.

00:42:48 [Speaker 1]
Nothing at all.
00:42:49 [Speaker 1]
I just I'm so excited.
00:42:52 [Speaker 1]
I'm really I really would love to see you live.
00:42:54 [Speaker 1]
I mean, obviously, this is still a new project.
00:42:57 [Speaker 1]
It costs a lot of money to get in the van.

00:43:01 [Speaker 1]
You know what I mean?
00:43:01 [Speaker 1]
It costs money to get to shows.
00:43:03 [Speaker 1]
It's very, very expensive.
00:43:06 [Speaker 1]
I'm hoping that, you know, you guys have this incredible success at at warp tour, but I do I I'm curious.
00:43:14 [Speaker 1]
When you guys aren't writing or you're just jamming in your car, you know, just being your normal selves during the day, what are you each listening to?

00:43:23 [Speaker 5]
You wanna go first?

00:43:24 [Speaker 3]
I gotta get I had to collect my car.
00:43:26 [Speaker 3]
We're gonna

00:43:27 [Speaker 4]
we're gonna pull it up.

00:43:28 [Speaker 5]
Thank you.

00:43:29 [Speaker 4]
Because I'm not gonna lie.
00:43:30 [Speaker 4]
I think my answers are gonna be kinda lame.
00:43:33 [Speaker 4]
I don't know, dude.
00:43:34 [Speaker 4]
Dude, I

00:43:34 [Speaker 5]
Let me be

00:43:35 [Speaker 1]
the judge of that.

00:43:36 [Speaker 4]
I listen to a lot of everything, and the reason why I say that is because I pull inspiration from everything.

00:43:42 [Speaker 5]
So I like

00:43:42 [Speaker 4]
to listen to I mean, I listen to country.
00:43:44 [Speaker 4]
I listen to pop.
00:43:44 [Speaker 4]
I listen to, like, hardcore.
00:43:46 [Speaker 4]
I listen to, I mean, as of right now, I will I will say he put me on to a band called Heaving.

00:43:53 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:43:54 [Speaker 5]
Which they're

00:43:55 [Speaker 4]
kinda in the same realm as a band.
00:43:56 [Speaker 4]
He also put me on called Static Dress.

00:43:58 [Speaker 5]
Static Dress, baby.
00:43:59 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.

00:44:00 [Speaker 1]
I love Static Dress.

00:44:01 [Speaker 3]
Yeah.

00:44:02 [Speaker 4]
So if you like Static Dress, you're gonna love

00:44:04 [Speaker 5]
Heaving.
00:44:04 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.

00:44:05 [Speaker 4]
Heaving is Yeah.
00:44:05 [Speaker 4]
Just I swear.
00:44:08 [Speaker 4]
Yeah.
00:44:09 [Speaker 4]
It's h e a v I n g, period.
00:44:12 [Speaker 4]
Yes.

00:44:13 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:44:13 [Speaker 1]
Okay.
00:44:14 [Speaker 1]
Sort of

00:44:14 [Speaker 2]
like Well, I was at station at some point last year, I think.

00:44:19 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:44:19 [Speaker 5]
What?

00:44:20 [Speaker 3]
I think

00:44:21 [Speaker 2]
I had a dental station at some point last year.

00:44:23 [Speaker 5]
So yeah.
00:44:26 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:44:26 [Speaker 5]
Saturday or evening?
00:44:27 [Speaker 5]
Evening.
00:44:28 [Speaker 5]
Evening?

00:44:29 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:44:29 [Speaker 5]
They're they they've been out for, what, a few years now.
00:44:32 [Speaker 5]
I haven't I haven't dove on that too not to them that much yet, but, like, kinda like I've seen some of their stuff.
00:44:40 [Speaker 5]
They actually popped up they actually the reason I found them is they popped up because there's a band called Differences from California, and they're, like, post hardcore metalcore.
00:44:50 [Speaker 5]
And they I believe they're doing a show together or they're touring together.

00:44:55 [Speaker 5]
And so that's how I got looped in to, to Heaving, and I was floored from the get go.
00:45:01 [Speaker 5]
But, yeah, keep on going because I'm still thinking

00:45:03 [Speaker 4]
about it.
00:45:03 [Speaker 4]
Yeah.
00:45:03 [Speaker 4]
Yeah.
00:45:03 [Speaker 4]
Yeah.
00:45:03 [Speaker 4]
Yeah.

00:45:04 [Speaker 4]
I will say I have been listening to a lot of, like, new metal too, like, some throwback stuff.
00:45:11 [Speaker 4]
I just kinda like to be in that element too because we I mean, First Sun kinda has, like, a slight new metal element, so I always look for a little bit of inspiration in that.
00:45:20 [Speaker 4]
If

00:45:21 [Speaker 1]
you're looking for new metal, I suggest you check out the Absint.

00:45:25 [Speaker 5]
The Absint?
00:45:26 [Speaker 5]
Okay.
00:45:26 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:45:27 [Speaker 5]
Dude, it's it's do if you

00:45:30 [Speaker 2]
do you like Jonathan Davis's vocals?

00:45:33 [Speaker 5]
I love his vocals.

00:45:34 [Speaker 2]
Do you love your shit heavy?

00:45:36 [Speaker 4]
I I do.
00:45:37 [Speaker 4]
Yeah.
00:45:38 [Speaker 4]
I do.
00:45:38 [Speaker 4]
I get heavy.

00:45:39 [Speaker 2]
The Absint is corn on

00:45:41 [Speaker 7]
acid.
00:45:41 [Speaker 7]
Okay.

00:45:42 [Speaker 5]
Corn on acid.
00:45:43 [Speaker 5]
Okay.

00:45:43 [Speaker 4]
I'm sorry.

00:45:43 [Speaker 2]
Basically, that's the one I just spoke with.
00:45:46 [Speaker 2]
And there's another one that, me and Lisa actually saw they opened up for architects.
00:45:55 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:45:55 [Speaker 2]
That's them.
00:45:56 [Speaker 2]
Oh, yeah.

00:45:57 [Speaker 2]
They're insane.
00:45:59 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:45:59 [Speaker 2]
The band that me and Lisa saw, they opened up for architect.
00:46:02 [Speaker 2]
Holy fucking shit.
00:46:03 [Speaker 2]
I have never seen a band open up a fucking show like they did.

00:46:07 [Speaker 2]
House of protection.

00:46:09 [Speaker 7]
Yeah.

00:46:10 [Speaker 5]
Oh, yeah.
00:46:11 [Speaker 5]
House of protection.

00:46:12 [Speaker 2]
Right.
00:46:12 [Speaker 2]
What the fuck?

00:46:15 [Speaker 4]
I will definitely check them out, dude.

00:46:17 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:46:17 [Speaker 5]
I was sec.
00:46:18 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:46:19 [Speaker 5]
House of protection, man.
00:46:20 [Speaker 5]
I've been keeping my eye on them because I believe, like, the guitarist played with, like, Fever three three three and the Chariot.

00:46:26 [Speaker 5]
Love that too.
00:46:28 [Speaker 5]
And, the drummer is I can't remember his name right now.
00:46:34 [Speaker 5]
I know him.
00:46:35 [Speaker 5]
I'm so bad at names, but he plays for Night versus.

00:46:38 [Speaker 1]
And he also does vocals.

00:46:39 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:46:40 [Speaker 5]
He does vocals too.

00:46:41 [Speaker 1]
And did vocals.
00:46:42 [Speaker 1]
We were driving I literally my jaw was on the floor.
00:46:44 [Speaker 1]
I was like, woah.

00:46:46 [Speaker 2]
You don't generally see like, because we saw them in the arena because it was half the protection wage war and architects.
00:46:51 [Speaker 2]
Right?

00:46:51 [Speaker 6]
Yeah.

00:46:52 [Speaker 3]
Oh, yeah.

00:46:52 [Speaker 2]
And and you don't generally see no, like, crowd interaction because it's big fucking arenas.
00:46:58 [Speaker 2]
Mhmm.
00:46:58 [Speaker 2]
And they played I think it was a 22 and a half thousand capacity venue in Manchester.
00:47:03 [Speaker 2]
The vocalist, the House of Protections, took his mic stand, climbed over the fucking barrier, and got in the middle of the fucking mosh pit with, like, fucking 500 people passing around him.
00:47:11 [Speaker 2]
I was like It was insane.

00:47:13 [Speaker 3]
Sick.
00:47:14 [Speaker 3]
Yeah.

00:47:14 [Speaker 5]
That's sick.
00:47:15 [Speaker 5]
I loved it.

00:47:15 [Speaker 4]
And a lot of bands, once they hit arena, they're like, I don't go out

00:47:20 [Speaker 2]
there at all.
00:47:21 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:47:21 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:47:21 [Speaker 2]
I see.
00:47:21 [Speaker 2]
Fuck, man.

00:47:21 [Speaker 2]
He

00:47:21 [Speaker 3]
was in

00:47:22 [Speaker 2]
the middle of the pit.
00:47:22 [Speaker 2]
Never forget.

00:47:23 [Speaker 1]
And he

00:47:23 [Speaker 3]
did it the

00:47:23 [Speaker 1]
next night the the next night as well in Cardiff.
00:47:26 [Speaker 1]
It was amazing.
00:47:27 [Speaker 1]
Anyway but Great.
00:47:29 [Speaker 1]
We digress.
00:47:30 [Speaker 1]
Anyway, Matt, who are you listening to right now?

00:47:32 [Speaker 1]
Who who's your who's your go to right now?

00:47:35 [Speaker 5]
My go to right now so I got, like, a top three.

00:47:40 [Speaker 1]
Okay.

00:47:41 [Speaker 5]
One of them is, it's a band that's not together anymore.
00:47:45 [Speaker 5]
They haven't been for about a few years, but they put out a record called Earth Eater.
00:47:49 [Speaker 5]
They're called Oceana.
00:47:51 [Speaker 5]
And I actually, yeah, I actually pretty much, you know, sent in the group chat with all the guys, and everybody's, like, gung ho about it.
00:47:59 [Speaker 5]
So, definitely been jamming them.

00:48:03 [Speaker 5]
I've been jamming a lot.
00:48:04 [Speaker 5]
Obviously, like, static dress and stuff like that.
00:48:07 [Speaker 5]
Like, I'm in my post hardcore phase right now.
00:48:10 [Speaker 5]
So, like, it's very, like and even still, like, I'm a two thousands kid, so I listen

00:48:17 [Speaker 1]
to two thousands music.
00:48:19 [Speaker 1]
Like,

00:48:20 [Speaker 5]
nobody's business.
00:48:21 [Speaker 5]
You know?
00:48:22 [Speaker 5]
And it's been ranging from, like, you know, stuff that's not been heard to, like, stuff that's out and current right now.
00:48:28 [Speaker 5]
Like, I've really been into, I've been listening to Thornhill.
00:48:31 [Speaker 5]
I've been listening to, I've

00:48:34 [Speaker 1]
been listening to

00:48:34 [Speaker 5]
Thornhill's really good too.
00:48:35 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:48:36 [Speaker 5]
I've been listening to Set It Off.
00:48:38 [Speaker 5]
Much love to those guys.

00:48:40 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.

00:48:41 [Speaker 5]
And I've been listening to them.
00:48:42 [Speaker 5]
And, like, I've I've been listening to them since they first came out with, like, the I think it was the horrible kids EP, like, years ago.

00:48:49 [Speaker 1]
That's that's

00:48:49 [Speaker 3]
a bad one.
00:48:50 [Speaker 3]
Yeah.

00:48:50 [Speaker 5]
2012.
00:48:51 [Speaker 5]
Like, I've I've been a fan of Set It Off and Cody and Max and Zach, all of them.
00:48:57 [Speaker 5]
Like, I've been a fan of them for a minute.
00:48:59 [Speaker 5]
So, that's been going.
00:49:02 [Speaker 5]
I'm on a big Breaking Benjamin kick right now.

00:49:06 [Speaker 5]
Saw them at Rockville, and that was, like, my first time seeing them, and I'm mind blown.

00:49:11 [Speaker 1]
What?
00:49:11 [Speaker 1]
It was your first time?

00:49:12 [Speaker 3]
It was

00:49:13 [Speaker 5]
my very first time

00:49:14 [Speaker 1]
seeing Breaking Benjamin.

00:49:15 [Speaker 5]
I've been waiting for that for years.

00:49:17 [Speaker 1]
My favorite song in the universe is breath live.

00:49:23 [Speaker 5]
That was the very first song I ever heard by them.

00:49:26 [Speaker 1]
I I you will see me stand there like I am in church.
00:49:31 [Speaker 1]
I am I am witnessing.

00:49:36 [Speaker 5]
Right.
00:49:36 [Speaker 5]
Rightfully so.
00:49:37 [Speaker 5]
Rightfully so.

00:49:39 [Speaker 1]
When I when when I hear the opening chord of breath, Mhmm.
00:49:43 [Speaker 1]
That's all it is.
00:49:46 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.
00:49:47 [Speaker 1]
I'd have Kevin Harris right next to me.
00:49:49 [Speaker 1]
Same thing.

00:49:50 [Speaker 1]
You know?
00:49:51 [Speaker 1]
There's so

00:49:51 [Speaker 2]
many there's so many good bands out there now, like, doing doing what I do for the sound, the new ads and everything like that.
00:49:59 [Speaker 2]
It's so hard to weigh it down.
00:50:02 [Speaker 2]
You as an artist, how do you break through the noise?

00:50:08 [Speaker 5]
I think the main thing is just being yourself.
00:50:11 [Speaker 5]
One thing that I realized, on the tail end of post profit when I was writing, you know, once we had that little taste of octane, everything started sounding like Octane, and the songs ended up getting scrapped because they were just like, well, it wasn't truly like the it wasn't our sound.
00:50:29 [Speaker 5]
You know what I mean?
00:50:30 [Speaker 5]
And and really staying true to yourself and just making a big impact.
00:50:35 [Speaker 5]
And I think also even, you know, branding that out with, like, videos and content and stuff like that is like, you know, you do the you you put all the necessary things in place, and then the music is gonna speak for itself.

00:50:48 [Speaker 5]
And so I think, you know, just being ourselves and and really just going balls to the wall with it.
00:50:57 [Speaker 5]
And regardless of how it comes out, you know, whether it's a heavy song or a lighter song or whatever, you know, just being different and being real and authentic, I think that's the thing that everybody is really, like, latching onto right now.
00:51:12 [Speaker 5]
So that's something that, you know, I I I feel like that for us is one of the things that kinda sets us apart because it's not, like, something that we can just you can just loop in to, you know, other bands that you know, we have influences from other bands, but that that pot is so, like, giant and, like, vast that it's like, you know what?
00:51:36 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:51:36 [Speaker 5]
Here, here, here, here, here, here.

00:51:39 [Speaker 5]
You know?
00:51:41 [Speaker 5]
But, like, one thing is just, like, you know, going one thing I've always prided myself on is, like, I'm not gonna put out any bullshit.
00:51:49 [Speaker 5]
Right.
00:51:49 [Speaker 5]
And I think, you know, me as a person, me as an artist deserves that, you know, having a high standard and us as a band having that as a high standard as well.
00:51:59 [Speaker 5]
You know?

00:52:00 [Speaker 5]
So it really is just you know, we're just gonna be ourselves and do the damn thing.

00:52:05 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:52:06 [Speaker 2]
It's like for me, the best music comes from being yourself and writing from in here.
00:52:13 [Speaker 2]
Mhmm.
00:52:14 [Speaker 2]
Like, if if you can touch my soul with your music, I'm told.

00:52:19 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:52:20 [Speaker 5]
I think that's an a very important thing now these days.
00:52:22 [Speaker 5]
You know?
00:52:23 [Speaker 5]
There's a lot of good bands out there, but there's a lot of good bands that sound like other bands that were good bands.
00:52:29 [Speaker 5]
You know what I mean?

00:52:30 [Speaker 5]
And not hating on any of those bands.
00:52:33 [Speaker 5]
It's just, you know, for me personally, it's just like, I've heard this before.
00:52:39 [Speaker 5]
Not that I don't like it, but it's not something that, like, you know, speaks to me like something over here would.
00:52:48 [Speaker 5]
And then I can listen to it, like, pretty much on repeat all fucking day

00:52:52 [Speaker 3]
for hours long.

00:52:53 [Speaker 5]
You know what I mean?

00:52:54 [Speaker 2]
It's it's saying I I say a lot is you you mentioned Breaking Ben, and I use them as a prime example.
00:52:59 [Speaker 2]
Mhmm.
00:52:59 [Speaker 2]
Why would I listen to something that sounds like Breaking Ben when I can go and listen to Breaking Ben?

00:53:05 [Speaker 5]
Literally.
00:53:06 [Speaker 5]
Because they're still they're still killing it right now.
00:53:07 [Speaker 5]
I'm about to put out a new record.

00:53:09 [Speaker 3]
Yeah.

00:53:09 [Speaker 5]
The songs they've put out, it like like, for me, it's like them and Seether, like, they get better with every album.
00:53:19 [Speaker 5]
You know how, like, you see some bands over the years where they, like, their albums have gone have gotten worse, like, going down the stretch.
00:53:27 [Speaker 5]
But oh, that's my speakers.
00:53:29 [Speaker 5]
And then you, me.
00:53:30 [Speaker 5]
I think it's both of our phones.

00:53:32 [Speaker 5]
Oh.
00:53:32 [Speaker 5]
Oh, shit.
00:53:34 [Speaker 5]
But, you see the effect of, like, every album kinda gets a little more, like, Like, with Breaking Benjamin and Seether, like, every album gets better and better and better.

00:53:47 [Speaker 1]
That's why with Breaking Bad, we have to wait five years for another album.

00:53:51 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:53:51 [Speaker 5]
You know what I mean?

00:53:53 [Speaker 1]
So we have to wait so long because it takes it takes time.
00:53:56 [Speaker 1]
Like, there are some bands that their best their best album ever was their first album.
00:54:02 [Speaker 1]
And then every album after, you fail to see evolution.
00:54:06 [Speaker 1]
You fail to see any change or any progression in the musicianship or writing or production, it all sounds exactly the same and even better.
00:54:15 [Speaker 1]
Right?

00:54:16 [Speaker 1]
It then since it sounds exactly the same, it's actually now worse.

00:54:21 [Speaker 2]
So Like, and I don't wanna shit on any bands, but as soon as you said the first album was the best album they ever put out, the first name that comes to mind was Evan Esnitts because there's no way they can touch that for an album.
00:54:31 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.

00:54:31 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:54:31 [Speaker 5]
No.

00:54:33 [Speaker 2]
No way.

00:54:33 [Speaker 4]
I don't I don't I could I could have not listened

00:54:36 [Speaker 5]
to other than There's some bands that I listen to that have been my favorite bands, and I'm like, man, like, their albums are good, but you just can't touch that certain record that that, like, made that big impact that time.
00:54:50 [Speaker 5]
You know?
00:54:50 [Speaker 5]
And you can try to recreate it to a certain extent, but it's not like it's not gonna be the same unless you, like No.

00:54:56 [Speaker 2]
And it's all about evolution.
00:54:57 [Speaker 2]
It's why I love architects so much.
00:54:59 [Speaker 2]
If you look at architects past four or five albums, not one of them are the same.

00:55:05 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
00:55:05 [Speaker 5]
No.
00:55:06 [Speaker 5]
Definitely.
00:55:08 [Speaker 5]
And I and I yeah.

00:55:09 [Speaker 1]
I've better.

00:55:11 [Speaker 5]
Mhmm.
00:55:12 [Speaker 5]
I've I've been with architects since, like, the ruined days, like, the the Hollow Crown days.
00:55:19 [Speaker 5]
Like Wow.
00:55:21 [Speaker 5]
You know?
00:55:21 [Speaker 5]
And and Tom, you know, God rest his soul, but, like, that was one of my absolute favorite guitarist.

00:55:30 [Speaker 5]
Like, I still take a lot of influence from him just because it's, like, the stuff that, like, in the date in the day breaker, like, lost forever, lost together lost together era, even up to, All Gods Have Abandoned Us.
00:55:44 [Speaker 5]
Like, that that era right there is just, like Yeah.
00:55:47 [Speaker 5]
It's heaven to me.
00:55:48 [Speaker 5]
So

00:55:49 [Speaker 2]
Yeah.
00:55:49 [Speaker 2]
Because it was literally Tom and Dan who were doing all the writing.
00:55:52 [Speaker 2]
Mhmm.

00:55:52 [Speaker 1]
Right.
00:55:52 [Speaker 1]
And now it's really mostly it means Dan.
00:55:56 [Speaker 1]
Yeah.

00:55:56 [Speaker 7]
Yeah.
00:55:57 [Speaker 7]
And

00:55:57 [Speaker 1]
Sam that, I I wanna thank you guys for coming on and spending your time with us.
00:56:04 [Speaker 1]
Love you to pieces, dude.
00:56:05 [Speaker 1]
There's literally nothing I wouldn't do for you.
00:56:09 [Speaker 1]
I'm so happy, to to see you guys here and to talk about your new project.
00:56:14 [Speaker 1]
I'm I'm hoping that you guys will have some obviously, you're cooking in the kitchen right now, but you'll have some new music, you know, in 2027 and hopefully, some tour dates.

00:56:26 [Speaker 1]
I would love to hear, you know Yeah.
00:56:28 [Speaker 1]
Tour dates.

00:56:29 [Speaker 5]
That that's the plan.
00:56:30 [Speaker 5]
That's the plan.
00:56:31 [Speaker 5]
We plan we plan to start touring next year.
00:56:33 [Speaker 5]
So Yeah.

00:56:34 [Speaker 2]
100%.
00:56:35 [Speaker 2]
I will, at some point next week, I'll drop you a message, and I'll hook you up with some contacts.

00:56:41 [Speaker 5]
Okay.
00:56:42 [Speaker 5]
Bro, thank you so much.

00:56:43 [Speaker 1]
Before you go, I do have some we've been doing this thing lately.
00:56:46 [Speaker 1]
We have some rapid fire questions.

00:56:49 [Speaker 3]
Mhmm.

00:56:49 [Speaker 1]
So I I've got them up.
00:56:51 [Speaker 1]
I'm gonna, like, try and take a few of them.
00:56:53 [Speaker 1]
So whoever has an answer, spit out the answer.
00:56:56 [Speaker 1]
Okay?

00:56:56 [Speaker 3]
Alright.
00:56:57 [Speaker 3]
Alright.

00:56:57 [Speaker 1]
Alternate.
00:56:59 [Speaker 1]
Song you wish you had written.

00:57:01 [Speaker 5]
Song I Wish I

00:57:03 [Speaker 4]
You got you got that one.
00:57:04 [Speaker 4]
I don't want that one.

00:57:05 [Speaker 5]
Oh god.
00:57:06 [Speaker 5]
There's so many.
00:57:07 [Speaker 5]
Song I wish I'd have written.
00:57:08 [Speaker 5]
Freebird?

00:57:09 [Speaker 4]
I'm just kidding.

00:57:11 [Speaker 5]
No.
00:57:12 [Speaker 5]
I wish I'd have written.
00:57:13 [Speaker 5]
I I hate everything about you by three days, Grace.

00:57:16 [Speaker 4]
Yeah.
00:57:16 [Speaker 4]
I'll I'll double that one.

00:57:18 [Speaker 1]
Oh, okay.
00:57:21 [Speaker 1]
Best piece of advice you've ever received?

00:57:26 [Speaker 4]
Oh, look at me.

00:57:28 [Speaker 5]
Oh, come on, bro.
00:57:28 [Speaker 5]
You can't leave me out of dry

00:57:30 [Speaker 3]
like this.

00:57:35 [Speaker 4]
If you're not first, you're last.
00:57:37 [Speaker 4]
Ricky Bobby.
00:57:38 [Speaker 4]
I don't know.
00:57:39 [Speaker 4]
Hold on.
00:57:39 [Speaker 4]
I'm trying to think, dude.

00:57:40 [Speaker 5]
I mean, that is kind of a good one.
00:57:41 [Speaker 5]
It's a

00:57:41 [Speaker 1]
good one.
00:57:42 [Speaker 1]
What's one thing people will be surprised to learn about you?

00:57:50 [Speaker 5]
Golly.
00:57:51 [Speaker 5]
I'm so bad at this right now.

00:57:52 [Speaker 4]
I'm not any better.
00:57:54 [Speaker 4]
Oh, boy.
00:57:55 [Speaker 4]
Surprised to know about us.

00:57:58 [Speaker 1]
Deep thinkers.
00:58:00 [Speaker 1]
We have deep

00:58:00 [Speaker 3]
thinkers today.
00:58:01 [Speaker 3]
Right?

00:58:02 [Speaker 5]
Yeah.
