Whether you're camera-shy or just unsure of where to start, this episode will inspire you to step out of your comfort zone and embrace the spotlight.
Key Takeaways:
  1. Why You Should Show Up on Video:
    • Videos convey your passion, expertise, and personality in a way that static posts cannot.
    • People fall in love with you before they fall in love with your brand or products.
    • Visibility builds trust and helps you stand out in your market.
  2. How to Overcome the Fear of Hitting Record:
    • Mindset Shift: Who cares what others think? Focus on the people you’ll inspire, not the critics.
    • Short-Term Pain, Long-Term Gain: The discomfort of making a video is minor compared to the benefits of growing your business.
    • Unfollow Is Okay: If someone doesn’t like your content, they can unfollow you—it’s not personal.
  3. Getting Started with Video Content:
    • Start Small: Post a simple introduction video in your Instagram stories—they disappear in 24 hours.
    • Use Filters: If you’re worried about your appearance, Instagram filters can add polish.
    • Craft an Elevator Pitch: Practice a short and engaging introduction about your business, tailored to your audience.
  4. Ideas for Videos to Create:
    • Introduce yourself and your business.
    • Share behind-the-scenes clips of your process.
    • Talk about your passion for flowers and what makes your business unique.
    • Offer tips or insights related to your expertise.
  5. Practical Tips for Consistency:
    • Commit to one video a week and reward yourself for following through.
    • Treat video creation as part of your role as the CEO of your business.
    • Focus on connecting with your audience, not perfection.
Actionable Steps:
  1. Write Your Elevator Pitch:
    • Who are you?
    • What does your business do?
    • What makes you unique?
  2. Record Your First Video:
    • Post a short introduction in your Instagram stories to test the waters.
  3. Set a Challenge for Yourself:
    • Commit to posting one video a week for a month.

Hello, flower friends. This is Jen and you are listening to the Floral Hustle podcast on this week's minisode. I want to talk about showing up on social media with your bright and shining face. I Often we'll have, uh, discussions with, with people that I'm like, you know, I, I really think you should do video.

I really think you should, you know, show how, half the time, show how adorable, what an expert you are, show your passion. Like those things cannot ooze out of you like doing a social media post. It is putting a picture. Even putting a picture of you, like if you guys just saw a picture of me and I was talking like, hey everybody, I really want you to show up on video and here are three ways to do that.

One, like versus me going, you know what guys, like I am so passionate about your success can be completely accelerated. If you show up as the face of your business, I know from my business experience that showing up and becoming the face of your business, becoming someone that can fall in love with you, becoming someone that holy crap, they know what they're talking about.

Oh my God. She seems so nice. She seems like, I mean, like. The vibes I get she seems like such a badass such a like that cannot come across in some words unless you Spend some serious time crafting it, but it's not the same It is just not going to be the same but half the people are scared shitless to to take that step and hit record and I, I get that.

I have always been an extrovert. Most florists, most creatives are introverts. Totally get that. But if you want growth, you are going to have to get uncomfortable. Like if we keep doing the same shit, you not showing up in your business, you not being the face of your business, you thinking your business is going to magically manifest all of a sudden paying you 100, 000 and you can't get a little uncomfortable.

It's just not going to happen. Like I would love to believe in unicorns and all these like magical things, but you magically thinking your business is all of a gun. Suddenly going to just be like on fire without getting uncomfortable is about the same as believing in unicorns. We need to get uncomfortable and we need to be the CEO in our business and being the CEO in your business is a lot of work.

I mean, being a business owner is a lot of work. Being a creative is a lot of work. Our brain is always pushing, but. If you are going and thinking that, you know what, like I'm going to put, and I did an episode on this recently, this half ass energy into making my business happen, half ass results are going to happen.

And that is the same as what I'm talking about today. You need to show up in a way that people fall in love with you. So you're like, I don't even, that sounds terrifying. I have no idea how to actually do that. Like, what do I do? Well, there's a couple of ways you can start small do. And I have one of my flower friends.

I absolutely love her, but she was terrified of this exact same thing. And I was like, okay. Try to make just a little introduction video. Uh, I often in my floral CEO mastermind in, um, my floral CEO accelerator program, like we practiced and kind of tweaked and molded our elevator pitches and an elevator pitch is basically like if you came up somebody in a party or at a networking event, like what would you say to them?

So that they understood what you do, and they understand, like, a little bit on your vibe as a person. And, um, What really like value you deliver with what you do. So my elevator pitch is hi, I'm Jenny from green gods, floral. I've been a florist for over 25 years and I specialize in lush garden style designs.

And I also have an urban flower farm. I absolutely love. Growing flowers and using locally grown product. I specialize in weddings and events, but can do anything. And, um, I absolutely, uh, love taking unique wedding ideas and just bringing them to the next level. Like that's one, uh, version of basically what you could do, but there's other, like, if I was talking to somebody that I knew was.

Really into sustainability or like I could tell or got a vibe, you know, I would talk more about growing flowers about using locally grown product about, uh, just really how important, you know, the making the carbon footprint of somebody's wedding is, is to me. And you might be, I might be also talking to somebody that does cultural weddings and I could be like, I.

Uh, am an expert in cultural weddings. I've probably done the most cultural, um, floral weddings in the Twin Cities market. So I understand all facets of, you know, putting together, designing and executing. the various cultural wedding needs. Uh, I could be talking to a planner who's an event designer and I could cater that to say, you know, I love collaborating with, with wedding planners and designers who put these next level things, like I love to duplicate pictures of their inspiration.

Like, I just love that when you can look at a picture, Um, of a drawing, a rendering, and then look at the end result and you're just like, wow, like you nailed that. So whatever it is, like I'm speaking to that person and if you're speaking to like your Instagram audience, which is a great place to start, maybe you start in your stories.

That's going to disappear after 24 hours. You can save it in your highlights, which I wouldn't hate, but we're going in and saying, you know, Hey everybody, I see some new flower friends around here, and I just wanted to do a quick little introduction and say thank you for following me, thank you for supporting this dream of mine, I absolutely love being a florist, um, but just in case you don't know a lot about me, and then I go into my elevator pitch.

That is a really easy, simple way, it's gonna disappear, and if you are like, I am I don't have enough makeup on. I don't have the right clothes on. You can use an Instagram in stories. They have filters. So like you can make yourself look like you have makeup on. I rarely just have like an organic natural face.

Um, I use like, there's several that it just adds like a little smoothness and it adds like just a little bit of makeup. And I'm like, I look like a rock star. That's amazing. Who cares? I'm not going to like go out of my way if for some reason like I'm doing a video and I'm like, Oh, I need to go and spend 15 minutes doing my face and my hair.

Like that sounds like a total waste of time. Using the filter. I like feel better about it. I mean, I can use, I can not use it. I have not used it and that's fine too, but I just do it. I hit record and I move forward. So if you are afraid. Of pressing record. I want you to think about a few things that I initially kind of processed.

First thing, who cares what these people think? Like, do I care if a wedding planner that maybe doesn't like my personality or something, they can unfollow me? Same thing with a potential client. If they, all of a sudden they were like, who does this girl think she is? Like, they are likely afraid, afraid to show up, afraid to do a million things.

And that is not my problem. They can unfollow me. Like my answer is they can unfollow me every time. You don't have to, I'm not holding a gun to your head. You can just unfollow me if you don't like what I have to say. So I think that every time. And I think, is the benefit of the pain of hitting record.

Going to be better than the pain that I'm going to feel long term by being frustrated and not growing my business, by being paralyzed by fear, by being in this place that doesn't feel good, like all these things. Am I, is that pain better than the five minutes of doing my video and showing up? I sure think like that short term pain is going to be 10 times better.

So you need to get uncomfortable for five minutes and start to see growth. People recognize my face. People recognize who I am. You're that you're from green goddess because I show up in my business. If I didn't do that, everybody be staring at each other in a networking event and like you're. You know, the unseen and I just don't want you to be the unseen.

I want you to be like, Oh my god, that's that girl that does all those videos and talks about flowers and she's always kind of fun and sassy and Like she seems kind of like a badass and like I just I want to be friends with her I want to work with her like that's the vibe. I want I want people to be Magnetic to you and to have somebody be magnetized towards you.

They have to know who you are. So let's stop Being afraid in 2025 Let's throw fear out the fricking door and go, I am a badass. I am the CEO of my business. People care about what I have to say. People find value in what I have to say. People want to work with me and see where that takes you. Try a video a week.

Like if you did a video for a week for a month, go and treat yourself. You deserve to reward yourself in a way that is, I mean, like, I just. I just made an agreement with my daughter. If she goes to karate for the next two months and does belt testing. So that means that she has to work towards it. Like she's going to get one of those green light credit cards with her face on the card or whatever.

And like, that's really motivating. So try to think of something motivated. Like if I do this every week at the end, I'm going to do this for myself. Run with that. If that's, if that's motivating to you, I want you to succeed. And I know that this is critical. I know that you showing up in the face of as the face of your business is going to make such an impact.

So stop being afraid. You're a badass and I believe in you. Thank you so much for listening flower friends and you have an amazing flower filled 📍 day.
