Part 1
Allman Brothers Band – Ramblin’ Man
- Well, what else could we fly over here to, especially after not travelling last week?
- This song was a massive hit from the 1973 album Brothers and Sisters, with this album and the band generally being huge exponents of what became the famous sound of southern rock.
- The brothers Duane and Gregg Allman formed the band in their hometown of Jacksonville, FL...but as you’ll see during these two hours, they’ve been associated with Nashville for so long that they are considered hometown, and that’s true with a lot of artists tonight, as the city is just a magnet for artists from all over the world.
Dolly Parton – Jolene
• known primarily for her decades-long career in country music. After achieving success as a songwriter for others, Parton made her album debut in 1967 with Hello, I'm Dolly.
• With a career spanning over fifty years, Parton has been described as a "country music legend" and has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling female artists of all time.
Becca Mancari – Summertime Mama
- This is a tune from the artist’s 2017 debut solo album Good Woman, and Mancari originally hails from Staten Island in NYC.
- A rising soloist star, Mancari is also a member of Bermuda Triangle alongside Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes and Jesse Lafser. Mancari also has released two more solo albums since, releasing the Left Hand LP earlier this year.
The Black Keys – Mind Eraser
- Another band originally from elsewhere (Akron, OH to be specific) but now heavily associated with Nashville, as band member Dan Auerbach has now become a producer of great repute and running his own Easy Eye Studios nowadays.
- This of course is from El Camino, released in 2011 and becoming an instant smash hit with that bluesy southern rock-inflected sound, and the big hits have now been played ad nauseum at football stadiums and in commercials, so wanted to find more of a b side from that LP.
Briston Maroney – Freakin’ Out On The Interstate
- Originally from Knoxville, this tune is from the artist’s 2018 EP Carnival.
- Maroney just released Ultrapure, which is the artist’s 2nd career full-length, and that dropped in full on September 22.
Barbara Mandrell - Love Is Thin Ice
• Mandrell was arguably the biggest female star in country music in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
• Barbara grew up in California in a musical home: her father, a country singer and guitarist; her mother, a music teacher and pianist; Sister Louise a bassist and fiddler; Irlene, the youngest, drummer.

Part 2
Miley Cyrus - Used To Be Young
• Miley Cyrus is a multi-talented American artist known for her early role as Hannah Montana on Disney Channel and her subsequent transformation in music and style.
• With a powerful voice and diverse music career, she has become a pop culture icon and remains a prominent figure in the entertainment industry.
The Civil Wars – Poison & Wine
- From the 2009 album Live at Eddie’s Attic, this is a tune that has probably gotten well over a billion spins factoring in all digital platforms.
- The band formed in 2008, but by 2014 the duo of Joy Williams and John Paul White had broken up. Fans of the group had seen this coming, as internal discord and strife had forced them to cancel shows in the middle of a European tour, but still obviously millions were disappointed.
Kitty Wells - It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels
• She broke down a barrier for women in country music with her 1952 hit recording "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels", which also made her the first female country singer to top the U.S. country charts and turned her into the first female country superstar.
• Wells' success and influence on country music garnered her the title "Queen of Country Music".
Roy Acuff - The Wabash Cannonball
• Roy Acuff, hailed as the King of Country Music, upheld traditional country values for over six decades and greatly influenced generations of artists, including Hank Williams and George Jones.
• Until his passing in 1992, he remained an active and popular figure in the music industry, continuing to contribute to the success of the Grand Ole Opry (historic country music radio show and live performance venue).
Devon Gilfillian – The Good Life
- One of my own favorite soul artists out there right now. Gilfillian is originally from Philly and has been steadily on the rise with that silky smooth voice and has called Nashville home for a while now.
- This is from 2020’s Black Hole Rainbow LP (what an image), and followed that up with this year’s Love You Anyway, which is also really good if you wanna take a deeper dive.
Tim McGraw - Highway Don't Care ft. Taylor Swift, Keith Urban
• Tim McGraw achieved country superstardom in the mid-'90s with hits like "Indian Outlaw" and "I Like It, I Love It."
• He later embraced heartfelt ballads, starting with "Don't Take the Girl" in 1994, which became his first number one country hit.

Part 3
Charli Adams – Heroes/Dying
- This is an artist who’s shown up on our radars since making debut back in 2020 with this EP.
- The mini record is called Good At Being Young, and since then Adams has released a debut album called Bullseye, which dropped in 2021 and another EP titled nothing to be scared of, which came out earlier this year.
Noah Cyrus – July
• She is best known for being the younger sister of musician Miley Cyrus. Cyrus first gained recognition as a child actress appearing in minor roles in television series and film, including in her older sister's television series Hannah Montana from 2006 to 2010.
• She began her music career in 2016 with the single "Make Me (Cry)"
Alanna Royale – Fall In Love Again
- This is literally one of my favorite people in Nashville, and a previous guest on the show.
- Royale is originally from Boston, and this song is a single to an album produced with Monophonics mastermind Kelly Finnigan on the soundboard. However, while this single found a home with Colemine Records, the album took a long while to find a label worth releasing on. But, the wait is over, as last Friday we saw the Trouble Is LP released everywhere.
Kyshona Armstrong - Worried Mind
• Kyshona Armstrong started her career as a music therapist and now combines that skill with her own songwriting as a staff member of her non-profit organization called “Your Song”, working with adults and youth experiencing homelessness, trauma, incarceration and isolation.
Okey Dokey – Wavy Gravy
- This is from 2017’s Love You, Mean It, which I must point out does have a comma which makes a key difference in meaning. (explain)
- The band was formed by Nashville music scene veterans Aaron Martin & Johnny Fisher in the mid 2010’s, and per their bandcamp bio, they say they are no longer merely a band, but a community of musicians. And that’s pretty great.
Chrome Pony – Ragged Child
- This is off an album from 2016 called Past Lives, and the Nashville-based band are known for their vintage rock aesthetic and, per their bio, honest thought-provoking lyrics.
- Their official bio reads, “Call it fate, call it karma, call it supreme chance. Tyler and Kyle Davis are brothers born on the same date two years apart; and since they could build tree houses and race BMX in their Indiana hometown, the duo have been a spectral musical unit radiating energy and prolificacy.”

Part 4
Taylor Swift - Blank Space
• Taylor Swift is a multi-award-winning American singer-songwriter celebrated for her chart-topping albums and diverse musical talents.
• Her career has evolved from country to pop, cementing her status as a cultural icon and one of the most prominent musicians of her time.
Nite Tides – Your Window
- Shouts out to the frontman of this group, a dear friend of the show and very talented producer named Ryan Poole.
- The band rather reflects Poole’s San Diego roots, with a vintage surf-inspired rock sound that’s just as easy going as a California afternoon.
Blake Shelton- Footloose
• country music singer and T.V. personality. He made his debut with ‘Austin,’ the lead-off single from his debut album.
• He has also served as a coach on NBC’s “The Voice,” and as a judge on the televised singing competitions “Nashville Star, Clash of the Choirs.
Billy Ray Cyrus - Achy Breaky Heart
• Billy Ray Cyrus became an instant superstar thanks to his 1992 smash "Achy Breaky Heart."
• While continuing his own music career, Cyrus helped launch the double-threat career of his daughter Miley Cyrus, co-starring as her TV dad on the Disney Channel hit series Hannah Montana.
Aseul – 모래성 Sandcastles
- This is the title track to t/n Lee Soo-jung’s 2018 album, and you might be familiar with her previous moniker guise as Yukari as well.
- Since debut in 2012 as Yukari, the artist has put out a steady stream of danceable jams over the years, with three albums under the belt, and the follow-up to this called Slow Dance being a very strong effort, released in 2020.
The Poles (더폴스) – Find me!
- This is a South Korean band consisting of Daniel Kim, Lee Hwangje, and Kim Kyungbae. The band debuted on September 8th, 2017, with their first EP From The Outset.
- “Find Me!” is one of the most engaging tracks but doesn’t have the most plays. Also, The Poles don’t rinse and repeat on the album. Each song has its own flavor that speaks to the theme.
