Hey mama! Have you relocated to Canada from your home country in order to better your life and that of your family, like me? Do you wanna know how to position yourself in society while English is your barrier? Do you wanna get a job that works with your mom life and makes your life easier? You might not even know how to manage your mom life especially after moving to Canada where life moves fast.
Speaker 1:There is a way to be more empowered so I can be more social in Canada, get a job and still have a balanced mom life. Hey, I'm Masa, new immigrant mama who made it to establish my own company, teach professional materials at multiple colleges, do many successful freelance projects and help almost all of my students find jobs in Canada while also raising my own daughter. Guess what? All in less than a year. Wanna learn how I did it?
Speaker 1:So go put on your earbuds and walking shoes and let's see what an empowered mom can do.
Speaker 2:Hello, and welcome to the Momentous Podcast, a podcast where we explore the unique challenges of building a life and career as a mom in a new country. I'm your host, NASA, a proud immigrant mama of two and founder of Momonez. Let me ask you something. Have you ever felt stuck in your career journey? Like, no matter how hard you try, the barriers just keep piling up?
Speaker 2:Maybe it's the language, the career gap, or simply the juggle of being a mom while figuring out your professional life here in Canada. If you're nodding along, you're not alone. As an immigrant mom myself, I face these struggles firsthand, and I've seen them repeatedly in the lives of my coaching clients. These challenges are real, deeply personal, and sometimes overwhelming. But here's the good news.
Speaker 2:You're not alone. In today's episode, I'm diving into the eight most common career challenges immigrant moms face and sharing how we can start turning them into opportunities. Stick with me because I'll also tell you about an empowering workshop where we will tackle this together. Okay. Challenge number one, lack of support system.
Speaker 2:When I moved to Canada, I left behind a whole network of family, friends, and colleagues. That safety net of people who would step in and help, it was gone. And rebuilding that kind of support takes time, takes effort and trust. Many of my clients tell me the same thing. It's lonely, and it's hard to find people who understand your unique struggles as an immigrant mom.
Speaker 2:Challenge number two, language barriers. Even if you're fluent in English or in any other language that you need to speak to, there's an emotional hurdle. You question your pronunciation, worry about being understood, or feel less confident expressing complex ideas. I've felt it. I've seen clients freeze up in the interviews not because they don't know the answers, but because they're worried about how they'll come across.
Speaker 2:Language becomes more than communication. It feels like a wall. Challenge number three, career gaps. Whether it's maternity leave or stepping back to help your family adjust to life in a new country, those gaps in your resume can feel like an enormous obstacle. I hear this from moms all the time.
Speaker 2:Will employers even consider me after all this time? It's a question I've asked myself too. Challenge number four, loss of career identity. Back home, you were someone, a teacher, an engineer, a manager. But here, you might feel like you've lost that identity.
Speaker 2:I remember looking at my resume and thinking, who am I now? Many moms tell me they feel like they're starting from scratch, and it's hard to rebuild that sense of professional self worth. Challenge number five, juggling motherhood and career goals. This is the daily tightrope walk. Your kids need you for everything, homework, emotional support, adjusting to life in a new country, and at the same time, you're trying to focus on your professional goals.
Speaker 2:One of my clients said it perfectly. I feel like I'm running an empty every day, and I'm still falling behind. Challenge number six, confidence and self doubt. After years out of the workforce or trying to adapt to a completely different job market, it's easy to lose confidence. I've seen brilliant, capable women doubt their skills just because they're in a new environment, and that doubt can be paralyzing.
Speaker 2:Challenge number seven, navigating the Canadian job market. Networking, resumes, interviews, it's a whole new game here. The unwritten rules of the job market can feel overwhelming, and without someone to guide you, it's easy to feel lost. This is a challenge that I've experienced myself and hear about it in nearly every coaching session. And challenge number eight, feeling disconnected from the community.
Speaker 2:Career growth isn't just about finding a job. It's about finding a place where you belong. Many immigrant moms tell me they feel isolated. Without a sense of community, it's hard to feel motivated or optimistic. These challenges aren't just hypothetical.
Speaker 2:They are my story, and they are the stories of so many moms I've worked with. But here's the thing, every one of these obstacles can be transformed into a stepping stone. Alright. If you're listening to this podcast prior to November twenty third of twenty twenty four, there is an exciting news for you. We're going to have a career goal planning workshop in honor of the Canada career month in November.
