Vox Liturgica:

The propers of the day according to the Roman Missal before 1955. The feast of saints Tiburtius and Susanna, martyrs, August 11 in the year of our Lord 2026. Like Saint Lawrence, Tiburtius, son of the prefect of Rome, was thrown into the flames. Armed with the sign of the cross, the martyr walked full of confidence on the burning coal. He was then led out of the town and beheaded on the Lavacanian Way in 02/1986.

Vox Liturgica:

On the same day Susanna, a virgin of high nobility who on account of her vow of virginity had refused to marry Galerius Maximus, son of the Emperor Diocletian, was beheaded in her house. Her body is preserved with that of her father Saint Gabinius and that of Saint Felicitas mother of the seven martyrs honored on July 10 in the Church of Saint Susanna where the station is held on the Saturday of the third week in Lent. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. The introit.

Vox Liturgica:

The salvation of the just is from the Lord, and he is their protector in the time of trouble. Be not immulus of evildoers nor envy them that work iniquity. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. The salvation of the just is from the Lord and he is their protector in the time of trouble.

Vox Liturgica:

The Collect, let us pray. May the constant protection of Thy holy martyrs Tiburtius and Susanna support us, O Lord, for Thou dost never cease mercifully to regard those to whom thou hast granted such assistance through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Hebrews. Brethren, the saints' faith was the faith which subdued kingdoms, which served the cause of right, which made promises come true.

Vox Liturgica:

They shut the mouths of lions. They quenched raging fire. Swords were drawn on them, and they escaped. How strong they became, who till then were weak. What courage they showed in battle.

Vox Liturgica:

How they routed invading armies. There were women too who recovered their dead children brought back to life. Others looking forward to a better resurrection still would not purchase their freedom on the rack. And others experienced mockery and scourging chains too and imprisonment. They were stoned.

Vox Liturgica:

They were cut in pieces. They were tortured. They were put to the sword. They wandered about dressed in sheepskins and goatskins amidst want and distress and ill usage. Men whom the world was unworthy to contain living a hunted life in deserts and on mountainsides in dens and caverns underground.

Vox Liturgica:

One and all gave proof of their faith yet they never saw the promise fulfilled. The gradual, the just cried, and the Lord heard them, and delivered them out of all their troubles. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a contrite heart, and he will save the humble of spirit. Alleluia, alleluia. The white robed army of martyrs praise thee, O Lord.

Vox Liturgica:

Alleluia. A continuation of the holy gospel according to Luke. At that time, Jesus said to his disciples, have nothing to do with the leaven of the Pharisees. It is all hypocrisy. What is veiled will all be revealed.

Vox Liturgica:

What is hidden will all be known. What you have said in darkness will be repeated in the light of day. What you have whispered in secret chambers will be proclaimed on the housetops. And I say this to you who are my friends. Do not be afraid of those who can kill the body and after that can do no more.

Vox Liturgica:

I will tell you who it is you must fear. Fear him who has power not only to kill but to cast a man into hell. Him you must fear indeed. Are not sparrows sold 5 for tuppence and yet not one of them is forgotten in God's sight? As for you, he takes every hair of your head into his reckoning.

Vox Liturgica:

Do not be afraid then. You count for more than a host of sparrows. And I tell you this, whoever acknowledges me before men will be acknowledged by the Son of Man in the presence of God's angels. The offertory. The souls of the just are in the hand of God and the torment of malice shall not touch them.

Vox Liturgica:

In the sight of the unwise they seemed to die, but they are in peace. The secret. We offer thee, O Lord, the gifts of our devotion. May they be pleasing to thee for the honor of thy saints and through thy mercy profitable to our salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen.

Vox Liturgica:

The common preface. Just it is indeed and fitting, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the powers stand in awe, the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee, while we say with lowly praise, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest.

Vox Liturgica:

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion. That which I tell you in the dark, speak ye in the light, saith the Lord. And that which ye hear in the ear, preach ye upon the housetops.

Vox Liturgica:

The Post Communion. Let us pray. We have received, O Lord, the pledge of everlasting redemption. May it, by the intercession of thy holy martyrs, be our aid, alike in the present life and in that which is to come. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.

Vox Liturgica:

Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. Saint Tiburtius, pray for us. Saint Susanna, pray for us.

Vox Liturgica:

Saint Lawrence, pray for us.
