What is Daily(ish)?

Challenging myself to record a podcast episode a day for my 50th year on this planet.

Speaker: Hello, welcome to
Dailyish for August 21st, 2026.

I'm recording an episode every
day for this, my 50th year on the

planet, or at least trying to.

This is gonna be a shorter one.

I just wanted to share a little hack
that I found if you use Apple TV to buy

or rent movies, games, apps, et cetera.

You're an iPhone user, iPad user,
Apple TV hardware user, uh, website

to bookmark and check every so
often is one called cheapcharts.com.

I forget where I stumbled on this
exactly, but what it allows you to do

is search the entire Apple Store, so
again, movies, TV, music, apps, and look

for deals, first of all, and also see
pricing as it's changed over time for

a given movie, app, TV show, et cetera

And once you find a show that you like,
there's obviously, you know, robust

search and things, and you can check
the charts and all that kind of stuff.

But once you find something
you like or you think you might

wanna buy, you can add it to your
wishlist and then have it notify

you when it's below a certain price.

And so because you can see the price
history for a given app or movie, you can

then see like, "Okay, it's been as low as
$7 in the history of it being for sale.

Right now it's $22.

Notify me when it's below $10, and
then that's when I'll probably buy it."

One little side effect of this is
it's been interesting to watch the

bundles and how they price those.

So for example, Dune 1, Dune 2, uh,
Dune 3 is coming out later this year.

So there's a bundle of Dune 1 and
Dune 2 in the Apple, uh, movie store.

but they're also available individually,
and so they'll often price them in

sort of weird ways where individually
they'll be more money, but the bundle

is slightly lower, or they'll adjust the
price so the bundle's the same price,

but the Dune 1 will be $10, Dune 2 will
be $14, and then they'll reverse them

so that Dune 1 is $14 and Dune 2 is $10.

And I have to imagine that there's some
sort of algorithm going on behind the

scenes where they can see that a bunch
of people bought Dune 1, so now we should

raise the price on Dune 2 so, 'cause
they're likely gonna come wanna buy it.

But we'll keep the bundle the same price
so that someone's gonna buy both of them.

Not a big deal.

They're not gonna see any
discrepancy in pricing.

But they kind of play with the individual
pricing of part one, part two or, And

for someone like me who both wants a
good deal on things but also will sort

of spend too much time wondering if
this is actually a good deal, it's a

great way to sort of take it off of my
brain and offload it to a service like

this, in in this case, CheapCharts,
where I don't have to think about it.

I'll just get notified
if it's cheap again.

And if I see the deal for a movie or
whatever come up, I can just look at

the price list, see the history on it
right away, see that this is actually

isn't a good deal for this movie
or this is a good deal and buy it.

So check out cheapcharts.com

if you're doing any sort of Apple iPhone
apps, movies, TV, even Mac apps as well

for the Mac App Store, and flag games
or apps or movies or TV that you are

interested and want to get on a good deal
