Begin Again with Winston Faircloth

Think of some successful, long-term, personal brand businesses.  Now that you have them in mind, how many are thriving today as solopreneurs?  Singular leaders delivering for their clients -- all alone.

The American mythology of rugged individualism, pull yourself by your bootstrap is well ingrained in our culture.

Yet, even thriving solopreneurs cannot do it alone.  Someone, somewhere took a chance on them before they were established or well known.

There are many examples of six figure solo businesses and precious few seven figure solo businesses without a team.
As entrepreneurs, we all Want, Need, or Have a team with the expressed purpose of helping us multiply our impact in business.

In this episode, we'll introduce you to #ForLoveOfTeam where intentionality meets heart in building, growing or keeping the Multipliers who can help you make the maximum difference.  Namely, a team you absolutely LOVE.

Winston Faircloth:

Hey there, it's Winston Faircloth and welcome back to episode 50 of the Begin Again Leadership Podcast. Well, bet you're wondering where we've been. Well, we're back after a short break and we're preparing right now for season number two, which is coming soon. And we're going to do that by taking you behind the curtain here at winstonfaircloth.com, what's been going on over the past few months, and a glimpse as to where we're going now. But I'd like to start with the fun part where we're going.

Winston Faircloth:

So bring to mind for a moment some successful long term personal brand businesses. Many of those we know today the most famous of those are online. And now that you have maybe one or two in mind, how many of those are thriving today as solopreneurs? Singular leaders delivering for their clients all by themselves. While we have grown up, many of us, in the American mythology of rugged individualism, where you pull yourself up by your own bootstrap, this is well ingrained in our culture.

Winston Faircloth:

And yet, even thriving entrepreneurs can't do it all alone. Someone, somewhere, always took a chance on them before they were well established and well known. And there are many, many dozens, maybe hundreds of examples of 6 figure solo businesses, but precious few 7 figure self funded solo businesses. And I think there's a reason why. There's a really good reason for this.

Winston Faircloth:

Some of the most enduring contemporary brands never resulted from a single genius building out their dream business in their garage or their basement. Let's talk about a few that come to mind right now. Disney, Apple, and Google these are iconic brands. And while the visionary leader and founder gets the lion's share of the attention, each of these companies emerged from the pairing of divergent skills. Someone who was a visionary and someone who was gifted at execution.

Winston Faircloth:

Someone who was aspirational, and another person who was practical, someone who was focused internally about the operations, and some who was externally focused on the client. And here in our company, because our desire is to help leaders build businesses with heart and attention, I've come to realize that I can't do this alone either. And over the next few weeks and months, you're going to see us move from a personal brand business into a full fledged collaboration with some of the best and brightest minds, all with one goal in mind: taking you on a journey of building, growing, and keeping a team you love. And whether you're the leader of one or a champion of many, loving your team multiplies your ultimate impact. Let me say that again because it's very important.

Winston Faircloth:

Whether you're the leader of one or a champion of many loving your team multiplies your impact. Now, I wished I had the mic drop here, but I believe in that so firmly. And this is born out of my own personal experience. For far too long in my career, I previously focused on loving our clients to the exclusion of our team. Now perhaps that approach came out of a posture of people pleasing or fear of missing out or watching what the competitors were doing.

Winston Faircloth:

In some cases, we held on, we even held on to toxic clients for the money they represented. And in the process, we wore out wonderful heart centered team members. Now your team is an extension of your intention to make a difference in the world. And so when is the best time to start creating your intention about the team that's going to help you reach your potential? Why is today a good day?

Winston Faircloth:

Even if you can't afford it? So can I hear a hallelujah or a yes? Oh my goodness. A team is a multiplier of what you can do alone in your business. And so recognizing that ourselves here, we're beginning to pivot our work, the work that we pursue here in this business.

Winston Faircloth:

And we're focusing on three stages of your business growth with a specialty on teams that you love. So group one, you want a team. You're the leader of one yourself and preparing you and your future team begins well before that first offer. Your why must translate and resonate with both your future self and your future team. And not just focusing exclusively on the desires you have for being in business.

Winston Faircloth:

And by simplifying your daily processes and workflows now, you not only create time margin for you, you install the necessary foundation for a future of flawless delegation. So we have a simple solution for you, leader of one. So you move from wanting a team to needing a team. You're gaining traction with your core clients and the high service standards you desire are beginning to outstrip what you can do alone. Now's the time for you to imagine what a team and an eternal culture you will love looks like.

Winston Faircloth:

Memorializing your existing processes in a shareable format and deciding in advance the benchmarks that will trigger the additions that you will eventually make. The investments and the additions you will make in your own business. All with the goal so that you stay as much as possible and what we call your unique ability, which is the intersection of your passions with your giftedness at work. So we have a signature for love of team program for you multiplier. And then the third group of people are the people who have a team.

Winston Faircloth:

You move from wanting a team to needing a team and then you finally have that team. So your team's in place with clear lines of communication and responsibility. Now this could be a mix of employees and contractors, full time or part time, that decision is as personal as you are. It really drives your intention and what you're trying to do. But as we on the team become more specialized and focused on certain tasks, we can stay almost exclusively in our individual lane.

Winston Faircloth:

And as the visionary leader, you see opportunities to innovate and reimagine, but getting your team on board can be a challenge because team members typically see only their part of the organization where you see the potential opportunities across functional lines. And unlocking innovation from the bottom up takes a shared understanding of what drives the business and the working knowledge of how all these pieces work together. Typically the leader is the only one that has that full picture. So we have a key via an unlock workshop for you and your team visionary. Our goal here is to say right up front that we value long term relationships with our clients.

Winston Faircloth:

We want to be a strategic partner to you as you grow through these three stages. And we're prepared to meet you where you are along this journey through a series of seminars, group and intensive mentorship, and our unique approach to unlocking team innovation via the Unlock Workshop. And we're just getting started. But you won't see this on our website. We're busy right now working with an initial cohort of business clients across this want, wanting a team, needing a team, and having a team spectrum.

Winston Faircloth:

And over the coming weeks and months, you'll see that shift from what we've been doing on individual coaching and mentoring for startups to more of this team orientation. You'll see that shift in this podcast and in our online presence, and especially in our programmatic work. But how did we get here from where we last left off a few months ago? Well, that's going to be the focus of our next episode. What happens when you hit the wall of frustration in a business that you've been dreaming of building?

Winston Faircloth:

What happens? How do you overcome hitting that wall of frustration? It's a process. And I'm going to take you through that process. Very personal look behind the curtain as to what's been going on here at the business so you can understand and hopefully learn and avoid hitting the wall that I hit a few months ago.

Winston Faircloth:
