Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

Across the gulf that lay between, there could be no communion. But
through Christ, earth is again linked with heaven. – Steps to Christ,

Gasping in dismay, I gazed up at the crystal wall of blue liquid
and white foam towering over me; I was barely given a millisecond
to react. Dive! In a heartbeat, I complied, forcing my board under the
surf. Struggling against the tug of the ocean, it wasn’t long before I
resurfaced, spluttering against the sea spray. Quickly glancing around,
I tried to locate my friends amid the rippling waves.
How’d they get out that far so fast? I questioned in disbelief
as my eyes caught the tiny dots bobbing along with the surf in the
distance. Before I could even utter a discontented sigh, another
threatening wave demolished all previous speculation. After
resurfacing for the umpteenth time, my aching body protested. Just go
back, my mind whispered, you’ll get a chance to go out past the ocean
break some other time. Sighing in resignation, I turned my board,
preparing to catch a small wave back to shore.
“Hey, where are you going? You’re so close to getting past
the white water.” Freezing, I glanced over my shoulder as one of my
friends paddled up to my retreating board and grabbed ahold of my
leash. “Here, I can pull you,” he offered.
“No, it’s fine,” I mumbled in embarrassment. “You go back,
and I’ll just get out there some other time.” But he wouldn’t leave me.
Although I tried to fend off his stubborn persistance, I finally gave in.
“Okay, but you’re not pulling me. I can make it by myself,”
I declared in determination. With a gracious nod, he led the way
through the rapidly swirling foam. Before I even realized it, I had
made it past the break and was now floating on the crystal sea with
my companions, searching for the perfect wave. In the same way that
my friend came back to bring me across the break, Christ crossed
from Heaven—the place of perfection—to this sinful earth, that I might
be able to join Him in His kingdom. Jesus didn’t wait for me to reach
Him in His perfection, but rather, He fell behind to help me in my
imperfection.
