YOUR INSURANCE CONNECTION

Donald Marquez, a licensed insurance agent, discusses various insurance types on his radio show. He emphasizes the importance of understanding insurance contracts, particularly auto insurance, which he has been practicing for 30 years. Marquez advises carrying higher liability limits than the minimum state requirements to protect personal assets. He also highlights the benefits of life insurance, including guaranteed issue policies for those with health issues, and warns against accidental-only life insurance policies that do not cover natural causes. I'm a licensed insurance agent right here in my hometown, Southern Nevada and also Northern Nevada, to all the state of Nevada, and we're going to include them. I'm licensed in the state of California for life insurance. I'm licensed also in Texas, Louisiana and Michigan, yes, for life insurance, for auto insurance. I'm licensed in 48 states with the exception of California and New York. So if you need homeowners insurance, auto insurance, I'm licensed in 48 states with excluding California and New York. So you know, I'm all around. I'm everywhere. And if you need life insurance in another state, other than the states that I mentioned, I can also get licensed in those days, if you're listening listening to this program right here at KU NV, 91.5 Jasmine more every Sunday morning, from 8am to 830 and I've been on the air over here for almost four years now. Whoa. The time goes by pretty quick. I'm a licensed insurance agent, and I come on the air to educate people this is educational show, and if you like to call me for an insurance quote, I'd be more than happy to review your insurance with you. But this is a program based on my knowledge as an insurance professional for the last 30 years right here in Southern Nevada. Yeah, 30 years. I don't know where the time went, but it's here now, and we're in 2026 and the clock's ticking, but with my wealth of knowledge, I just came up with the concept. Hey, you know what? Let me go on the air and talk to our listeners and educate them on life, life insurance, auto insurance, homeowner's insurance. You know, because when you purchase insurance, you you entering in a contract. Auto insurance is a contract. Renter's insurance is a contract. You know, all insurance is a contract, and you have to understand, what are you paying for? What are you actually paying for? When I ask people about their car insurance, they tell me, I have full coverage. And what does that mean? You know you have a full coverage contract, but what does it really cover? And that's the question. You have to know your coverages on any contract that you sign. And insurance is a contract. It's a contract of liability protection. We offer liability. This is what we do. We protect you. When something happens, that's all it is. And you know, and sometimes the lucky ones, nothing happens. But in this business, for 30 years, I've seen a lot of people this. I've never had an accident before. I never had a car accident before, but you had a car accident, and we have to go over, you know, all the details about the car accident. When my clients are in a car accident, I want to be the first person they contact. You know, at that for the business you know, for business reasons, of course you're going to call you your wife or your husband, and hey, honey, I was in a car accident, but I get that part, but to go to through the process step by step. You know, you do have that option to get an attorney, but you do also have an option to go through your own insurance and this is why we have insurance agents to help you through the process, step by step. Now, attorney is going to take up to 40% of your your your settlement, and a lot of in most cases, you can settle yourself with the insurance company. Now, 40% okay, let's say $100,000 you do the math, 40% now, of course, you know they the only thing they're really concerned about is your bodily injury, your injuries, and if you are injured serious enough, maybe you need an attorney. But for these minor fender benders, I think we can handle this on our own. Now, if a semi truck hits you, or Uber driver hit you, or, you know, something like that. That's really, really serious. You may you may need an attorney, but if you have a really serious car accident, you might need an attorney, because the one thing about car insurance, people must understand, you know your limits of liability is what you pay for. Now, when you tell me you have full coverage, you have to understand. And your bodily injury is what you have, and that's all you're gonna that's all the insurance companies will pay out. Is your bodily injury liability. Now, I've never seen when they pay out over and above your limited liability. I really haven't seen that in my many years. Now, maybe it has happened, I don't know, but on your insurance you have options on your insurance coverages for auto insurance for bodily injury, the minimum requirement in the state of Nevada is $25,000 per person, 50,000 each occurrence, and $20,000 property damage. Now what does that mean in full? Now, when you have a car accident, it is your fault. Your company, insurance company, if you're carrying the minimum state requirement, will pay $25,000 per individual, 50,000 each occurrence, right? That's a total of 50,000 and then $20,000 to repair or replace their vehicle doesn't protect you. On the first line of insurance, that's that's line number one, when people say they want liability only, that's that's their liability only coverage. Now, let's keep moving forward. You add also, we're going to add property damage. The property damage means they're going to protect the property that you you have an accident with. Now whatever property may be a fence, maybe a brick wall, it may be a garage door or another vehicle, but you know, the minimum state requirement in the state of Nevada is $20,000 however, what I do I carry higher limits of liability because I've been in a car accident, and I've been in a car accident that were my fault, and I want to Make sure I was protected, and they in the lawyers weren't coming after me for my personal assets. Now I carry larger limits of liability, because, again, I don't want to have I don't want to be liable, although, you know, if I'm in a car accident and it's my fault, you know I'm truly sorry. I don't try to blame the other person. I take that responsibility. This is my fault. I'm sorry. Here's my insurance information. I hope you get well, I hope you get better soon. I just make the made a bad decision, and here's my insurance information, and that's all you need to do. And be incorporate. You don't have to argue say, hey, you know you stop too soon. Well, because you follow too close. That's why you hit them in the rear. However, carrying the higher limits of liability protects you over and above the minimum state requirement by the state of Nevada. Now, for many, many years, it was below that at $15,000 per person, 30,000 each accident and $10,000 property damage. The insurance companies loved it, because they could pay out the very small amount, because the bodily injury amounts were low. But if you're a homeowner, if you're a homeowner and you own a business, when you shop for car insurance and you have and you see these commercials, save one phone call, I'd say X amount of hundreds, hundreds of dollars, right? First of all, they're not talking about Nevada, not Southern Nevada, not Las Vegas, Nevada. And when they say they save hundreds, they're talking about they pay the policy in full. And you could do the same thing. If you pay your car insurance in full for the term for six months or 12 months, right? You will save money paying month to month. You're losing money. You are in you know, they have these Interest Free Credit cards now you can put your car insurance payment on an Interest Free Credit card, and you have up to that term to pay it off, up to a year to pay it off, in some cases, without any interest. And you control it. You control it. Now, you know, if you get your tax refund, you pay it off, but you got, you have to have car insurance and when you're driving, and you quickly find out, when you're in a car accident, you have low cut rate insurance and you're driving a really nice car. And then you find out, Oh, my coverages are minimum coverages. And they could, the lawyers could, there is a possibility, and I've seen it in my 30 years, that they come after your personal assets. That means, well, I don't have anything. I've heard this before too. Well, you have a job, right? Yeah, I have a job. You have a paycheck. Yes, I get a paycheck. Well, that's an asset. And don't think these lawyers won't come after your personal assets. And if you're working, and you get a and you get an income coming in that and that is an asset, that is an asset when you're driving, carry a little bit better than the minimum state requirements. But this is my message, carry a little bit higher limits than the minimum state requirements. Well, you know, again, the minimum state requirements are 25,000 per person, 50,000 each accident and $20,000 property damage. I would, I would encourage you to bump that up to the next level. Again, these cars today on the road are more than $20,000 now very few cars are under $20,000 now the insurance companies, I don't. Insurance companies will settle in most cases, you know, even with the minimums, but you know they still could come after you if you don't have enough coverage on that bodily injury. Now again, when you injure people, they have to go to the hospital, get X rays, get examined. At $25,000 these days, do not go far. And at $50,000 if there's more than one individual in the car, won't go very far at all. So just keep that in mind. And I've had people tell me, Well, I never get in car accidents. Well, you know, never that was like yesterday. But what about today? We never know what may happen today. That's why we have car insurance. It's what if, if, in case something happens, I listen to Chris Rock, and he said, you pay card. He was doing a comedy show, and he pay car insurance. If nothing happens, shouldn't you get your money back? And I thought that was pretty hilarious. I did. I said, Well, nothing happens, but you never know when something may happen. That's the problem. You never know when something may happen. That's like health insurance. You carry health insurance because you never know when your body may may need that. You know that coverage to go to the doctor, go to the hospital, get X rays. So insurance is one of those, yeah, you know, I gotta have it. You do? You have to have it on your home. If you're a renter, you need renters insurance to protect your personal property. If you drive a car, the state requires you to carry auto insurance. Now, growing up, this is a while back for me, and I can truly say this, when I growing up in Vegas, it was a time well, you know, I remember my parents talking about there was a time where it wasn't necessary for you to carry car insurance if you own the car. If you own the car. Now, the loan companies put a type of insurance on the car, but when it came became mandatory. I remember my parents talking about, oh, we have to get insurance, because now insurance is mandatory. You know, this is information, news you could use. I always say, protect yourself a little bit better than the minimums that is required, because sooner or later, you're going to find out that cut rate insurance, just to save a buck or two, is going to come back to cost you more money than you realize, because now, all of a sudden, your rates go up, and then when you when you file a claim, It's very difficult to shop for other insurance, and I get this on occasion, are you in a car accident? It's your fault right now, all of a sudden, your renewal, and the claim is closed, and the renewals come out, and all of a sudden your rate goes up. Oh, my God, am I? I've been with this company for a long time, and my rate just went up. Yes, because you had a car accident. Now, when, I received calls for a quote for auto insurance, I said, okay, hey, Mr. Insured, you had a car accident. Well, what two years ago, less than three years ago? Yes, I did. And his claim just closed out, and, you know, my rate went up. Can you get loan? Find me a lower rate? Well, it's very difficult,

gonna say that, and I was gonna be a little difficult, because the insurance companies adjust your rates according to your driving history, your claim history, whether you have tickets accidents, and I'm happy to say, in the state of Nevada, if you receive a speeding ticket, you can get reduced down to a parking ticket. I have a young lady that works with me. Her name is Christine Bernard. She's a paralegal, and she can help me help you get get your speeding ticket reduced down to a parking ticket. My contact phone number is 702-236-2624 702-236-2624, my location Sahara Rancho in the US bank center, eighth floor. Our work by appointment. 702-236-2624, so you know, right on the corner, Saharan Rancho, I'm in the US Bank building. I've been there for since 2015 I work by appointment. Now, some of you, thank you for showing up and and, you know, I have the office staff call me and they said, Well, you know, he works by appointment. When you come up and show up without an appointment, it is always better to contact me for an appointment. I've had people show up. Sometimes I'm there and sometimes they're not, you know, I'm out in the field working, you know, talking to people about their insurance. So it's always advantageous for you to contact me at 70223626244, an appointment time schedule, Monday through Friday, from 10am to 5pm is my business hours located again, right on the corner Sahara Rancho in the US bank center, eighth floor, 702-236-2624, your auto insurance when you have the minimum requirements on your auto insurance policy. I just want to say this, it is very difficult to shop for lower rates when you have a policy with your minimum. Items, and you're trying to shop, and you're trying to shop for a lower rates with minimums, it's just very difficult to find a more competitive rate. And when you have an accident, and is your fault, right? When it's your fault, it's very difficult for you to shop. It really is. It's just gonna be. And if you have more than one incident, and I've seen this over my, over my many, many years as an insurance professional, you'll have three incidents in five years. Most companies, most auto insurance carriers, will do a look back for five years. In other words, your accident, your your accident, your ticket, will not fall off your policy for five years now. Of course, it does. You know, it does reduce that, that increase in insurance over time, but it makes it very difficult for you to shop. And I had a conversation with a client just the other day when you're in a car accident and it's not your fault, do not file a claim on your policy unless you absolutely have to, if this person does not have any car insurance, right? They don't have any car insurance, then you need to file a claim on your own policy, and they could or could not be a deductible to be paid. I always say when it comes to deductibles, you know, just take the cash settlement. They'll minus deductible. The deductible out of your cash settlement. Get three estimates from The Body Shop, right, and they'll take the highest show all three to the insurance company. Because sometimes these insurance company, I hate to say this, they, you know, they they cut, they cut you wherever they can, they cut the rate wherever they can. They cut the estimate wherever they can. But they also to the estimate. You know, the examiner, when they examine your car. The adjuster comes out. They look at your vehicle. They add a little more coverages in there, because a little bit more money for coverage is in there for damages, you know, because sometimes it's unforeseen damages, and in the adjusters don't want to come back. They want to. They want to, okay, make that, make that settlement with you at the body shop or wherever you meet the adjuster up for repairs for your vehicle. They'll make their claim. You make a claim. They show up. They write your check on the spot, but you want to make sure that's enough money to cover your damages. And the way you do it, if your car is drivable or, you know, get three estimates or two estimates, because sometimes, you know, when the insurance adjuster come out here, they might be a little lower them, and they're never higher. And let me say, let me protect myself. In most cases, they're never they're never higher. But you know, again, it protects you, even if there's a total loss. And I've had this happen to me. I had a 1997 GMC Yukon, and it was a car wanted for a very long time, and I bought one, and when I bought it, when I bought it, it was 20 years old, so it was a classic, and I insured it as a classic, classic car. But I always wanted that truck at the time, when I was looking at it brand new, back in 97 my wife was telling me, Well, you know, you're going into the insurance business. Now. You want a car, or do you want to go into the insurance business? So that was, that was like, let me go into the insurance business. Once I'm in the insurance business, I can always buy this car at a later time. Well, the truck, you know, years go by. Years go by. I was fortunate to find one, the exact one I was looking for, you know, 20 years later, and I purchased it. Unfortunately, it was stolen. My son took it. He I let him borrow it. He went to want to see his attorney, and someone stole it, right? He was like, Dad, somebody stole your truck. I'm so sorry. Yeah, okay, I'm sorry too. I'll let you drive it anyway. My point is this the insurance company, the adjusters came out. They said, Okay, we'll give you a check for, you know, a look. Do I like? That was like, $3,500 $3,300 it wasn't much. I said, No, no, no, no, you say it. See, when you have a classic car, you have a stated value and you have an agreed value. Let me say that again, when you have a classic car. Now, if you don't use a classic car, car insurance companies, you could use your own company, but it's a way you have to insure your vehicle. It's called a stated value, or an agreed value. I always like to agree value, because we agree my vehicle is worth this much money. Well, make a long story short, I got three estimates, same year, model, similar mileage, all the equipment, the same. Everything was nearly same, right? Three different vehicles. I presented it to the insurance companies. They settled me close. It was $11,300 that was my settlement, after showing them that my vehicle was worth a lot more than than they estimated to be. And you could do it too. So if you have a two. Total Loss, or if you have a car accident, make sure you get at least two estimates, present that to the adjuster when they come out, and that way you're protected. To make sure you're getting the fair offer. My name is Don Marquez. This is your insurance connection. I hope that is News You Can Use. You know, the weather is getting a little wind. It's a little windy outside. It's going to get better, and we will know that we're still in the spring. And once, you know, gets the wind stops, and people are gonna get out more, they're gonna do more.

know, they just go and get out and do more. And this is when more accidents happen, when more people are out, more things happen. Or you want to make sure you protect it, not only with your auto insurance, life insurance too, as well. I have multiple life insurance companies that I work with. I have guaranteed issue life insurance policies that will issue up to 25,000 no physical you know, so that I have policies that can help you even even you've have a history of heart disease. I just assured two people last week. One had a stint in his heart on blood thinners. They were they they wanted 25,000 that was the max they could get. And I had another customer contact me, and she had, you know, she had liver she had liver disease. No problem. We got her $25,000 of whole life insurance. You know, I do the shopping for you when you go online and shop for car insurance, auto insurance, you know, you know, or life insurance. You know, you get a lot of phone calls. You receive a lot of calls. You really don't know what you're doing when you're doing that. And now you may think you know this business now you really don't, because, again, you know there's little things like I had. I had a conversation with one of my clients last week about uninsured and under insured motors protection. Uninsured and under insured motors protection is a very, very valuable insurance to have, just in case someone hits your car without insurance or not enough insurance to cover you and the passenger's bodily injury, you know. So I go over these coverages, line by line to make sure you are insured. You know when a person pass. It gives you the peace of mind that you know when someone passes that you know you have time to grieve. There's many times when family members don't have time to grieve because they got to figure out, how am I going to pay for this very expensive funeral and funeral costs today anywhere from 15 to 20, up to 25,000 or more. It really just depends. Now, if you are a veteran, do not think the veteran administration is going to pay for your funeral arrangements all of it now. It will take care of your your grave site. It will take care of the headstone. It will take care of the container or the vault, whatever you want to call it, to put the casket in or the urn in, and in some cases, they will, you know, also include the wife on top of the spouse or the veteran. However, whoever goes first, it could be a double plot or side by side. I've seen even veterans, when the husband was a veteran and he passed and they put the wife next to the veteran in a separate plot, so only at the Boulder City Cemetery in Southern Nevada. Just keep this in mind, only at the Boulder City Cemetery in Southern Nevada, and it does save you money, but to think, and I've had people you know, have a conversation with this, and not in all cases, because I have seen cases where the veteran is protected through a small life insurance policy, through the VA, I guess they bought it years ago, and they still have the protection if you if you work for the county, or, you know, you're a mailman or police officer, and you have this type of insurance, you know, as you age, sometimes those insurance policies as you are offered through work, they reduce as you get older, or if you're getting ready to retire, your life insurance policies could end when you retire again. I've said this on my show, when you're in a group through work, and you have the group life insurance, and you're paying a minimum coverage for that life insurance, you do have other options, because when you retire, those benefits do not retire with you. They usually stop for life insurance. Now, of course, you receive your retirement check every month, but the benefits of life insurance, in most cases, stop. Now, if it doesn't stop as you age, it could reduce. My name is Don Marquez. This is your insurance connection. My phone number is 702-236-2624 702-236-2624 located Sahara Rancho in the US bank center eighth floor. I work Monday through Friday, from 10am to 5pm and I love doing business on. The phone. Now I do make it very convenient. I can write a life insurance policy over phone. I have multiple life insurance companies if you need a small policy for final expenses to take care of that final expense, which we will all have one day, we're going to all need a final expense. And you know, again, we want to make sure that beneficiaries can go through the process seamless and going by, going online, you may purchase the wrong insurance. Okay, I brought today in the studio with me, because I received this in the mail. It is from a well known insurance company. I don't I don't want to say the name of it, but it's offering life Accident Insurance, right? Life and accident insurance. So when you read the contract, this is a legal contract, and they want to make sure you fully understand it. But when it comes down to looking at the real contract, reading what I read, they make the benefits look very attractive, but it's an accidental only life insurance policy, okay? It's accidental only life insurance policy, and it says, oh, it's gonna be with you to age 95 and it all looks good, and you're insured immediately. You know, regardless of your health, it says all the right words. It says everything you could change beneficiaries, your beneficiary will get paid instantly. I mean, it says all the right things, but it's accidental only. It does not pay for natural causes. It does not pay for and I just wanted to share this information with you, because a lot of these accidental only or accidental travel policies disguise themselves as a real life insurance policies for all cases, when you pass a natural causes and you have an accidental only life insurance policy, it does not pay your beneficiary. And you know, and I know people that work in the mortuary business that own mortuaries, and they said when people come in with that accidental only policy, that's what they told me. They shared with us, with me, they said they get really upset because they've been their parents have been paying on these policies for years, and now that they need the policy to pay for that final expense. And and the parents, or a parent, pass of natural causes, and they get upset because now they bring in an accidental only life insurance. This is why, this what makes a difference. I will go over your policy with you, line by line to make sure you have the right policy. I don't offer accidental only life insurance policies. My name is Don Marquez. I'm a licensed insurance agent. No obligation to review your assurance. It doesn't cost to come see me. I do not, I do not charge a consultation fee. 702-236-2624 702-236-2624 again, it does not cost you to come see me, 702-236-2624, everyone. Have a blessed day today and go out, take a walk. We'll do this again next week. Until then, have a have a great week.
