The Overnight Radio Hour

A man named Noah hasn't been home in days. Something that wears his face has been standing at the edge of his woods :: and it's been there longer than he realized. The calls keep coming, and the stories keep rhyming. Rae thinks something is happening in Brackensville. Luke thinks it's a crime wave. Jimmy calls in again.

00:10
Welcome in, dear listeners. You are now listening to the Overnight Radio Hour on WGLE 91.1 FM. This is your hour to tell your spookiest and unexplainable stories from all around Brackensville. 00:44
Hello, hello, and welcome in, our lovely listeners. You're now listening to the Overnight Radio Hour, the spookiest and scariest show on all of the airwaves. I'm your host, Rae. Ooh, and I'm your host, Luke. And this is now episode four. Isn't that so exciting, Luke? It's so wonderful. We've had so many wonderful callers and discussions already in three episodes, and we're so excited to see what episode four is going to bring on to us. So just what a wonderful, wonderful time we've had. I've had a great time. Oh, and it looks like we already have a... I have a caller on air. We already have a caller. Hello, caller. You are on air. Hi, how you doing?

01:35
My name's Noah. How are y'all? Doing well. Doing very well. Hey, Noah, what are you calling about today?

01:41
Well, I've been listening to the past couple episodes y'all have done, and there's just been something that's going on around me that I think is very, very similar to what's happened yesterday. Some of the callers have called y'all up.

01:58
Before I get into this story, I want y'all to understand that around my house, there's nothing but the Lord's woods. I mean, there's acres of thick pine and oak, brush so tangled you couldn't walk 10 feet without getting stretched up. There's no streetlights, no neighbors, just the moonlight if you're outside when it's dark. Very poetic.

02:21
Early last month, this thing that looks and sounds exactly like me started showing itself straight to my face. But I got a feeling that it's been in this area for a lot longer than that.

02:37
Funny thing about it is, too, about four years ago, my parents, my grandma, and a couple of my cousins were over at my place for a little get-together. You know, nothing fancy, just burgers on the grill, cheap beer. Everybody yelling at each other like we always do. Sounds like a good night.

02:56
I mean, it was until I remember my mother stepping out back for a Marbella light, and she's barely out there for a minute before she comes rushing back inside, pale as a ghost, asking me what in the Sam Hill I was doing standing out in the woods staring at her.

03:16
She said I was just standing there, not moving, not blinking, just staring at her.

03:24
Problem was, I wasn't outside. I was in the kitchen with my dad and grandma the whole time.

03:30
Mama, bless her heart, laughed it off, said the light must have been playing tricks on her on her eyes. And stupid as it sounds, I believed her. I shouldn't have.

03:42
Last year, I was sitting in the living room when my dog tore off into the sunroom, barking like something had its tail. That part wasn't strange. We got rabbits. Raccoons, Amarillos, anything you can think of, we got it. Then I heard it.

03:59
My voice.

04:00
Clear as day. Coming from that sunroom. Cussing, talking, just like I would.

04:08
I got up slow, heart about to beat out of my chest and looked outside.

04:14
Nothing. No footprint.

04:16
No movement. No sound. Just the woods.

04:23
Then last month, I was washing dishes at the kitchen sink and happened to glance out towards my tree line, and there I was, standing just inside the woods. It looked exactly like me. Same clothes I had on, same build, same face.

04:42
Thing didn't move, didn't twitch, didn't sway with the breeze.

04:47
It just stood there like a mannequin. Somebody popped up between the trees. Or like a scarecrow, even. Made to scare me.

04:56
I couldn't breathe. I couldn't blink. Finally, I bottled up the sunroom door to get a better look.

05:02
Gone. In the two seconds it took me to reach that door, it was gone.

05:08
Last Saturday was the worst of it.

05:11
I was upstairs working when I heard knocking at the back door. Then I heard my own voice calling out, asking to be let in.

05:19
Same tone, same accent, same everything.

05:25
My dog lost his mind. Hair up, teeth barred, growling like I've never heard him before. Then the scratching started.

05:36
Clawing at the windows, dragging down the glass. Slow.

05:42
I called the police. They found absolutely nothing. No prints, no damage, absolutely. Nothing.

05:52
I'm staying at my parents' place right now. I don't even know what to tell people. I sound insane just typing this out, but I swear on everything I love, I know what I heard, I know what I saw, and I know what I'm telling you folks right now.

06:10
I just wanted to stop. If anybody's got advice, I'll take it. No matter how crazy or how stupid I sound, please, I hope somebody's got advice for me. Because I've got this feeling I haven't seen the last of it. And I don't know what it was.

06:26
I think it was smart that you're out of your house now. Do you feel safe at your parents' house?

06:35
I think the correct word is safer. I still don't feel all the way safe because I truly believe that

06:43
thing that looks just like me is somewhere out there. I don't know if it has the capacity to follow me here, but I'm still scared to death. So it looks just like you, like if you're looking in a mirror.

06:58
Exactly. I mean, when I was in fourth grade, I fell down and I got this scar across my cheek, and it's a pretty hard thing to replicate. I've seen them try to do it on the makeup

07:11
For Hollywood movies and stuff like that, try to give their monsters scars. And the scars I got, you can't replicate. And this monster, is what I'm going to call him, had it in the same exact place.

07:25
Do you think it's trying to hurt you? Or does it get to you? It's either going to hurt me. The more and more that I've been able to look at it, the more and more that's the way I think it feels about me.

07:42
Well, thank you for your call.

07:45
I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you. Maybe someone else can call him that has advice.

07:52
Right, Luke? Well, thank you all so much.

07:56
Thank you for being a listener, and thank you for calling in today, Noah. That was a great story. I'm sorry you've got to go through all that.

08:04
Well, I wish you all the best of luck as well. I'll see you all around. All right. Keep it tuned, Noah. Thank you.

08:09
Well, for anyone listening in, that was Noah. You can call in at 334-844-9345.

08:19
I mean, look, that was similar. No, no. That's what the people are saying. They're saying that something is the same as them. There's no way. There's no way.

08:37
Everyone in this town, either I'm crazy or everyone in this town is getting crazy because there is no way. But the stories are all the same, Luke. This is the thing.

08:50
People's partners are being replaced. People are seeing weird people. This is not just a one-off story, Luke.

09:03
I'm sorry, this is ridiculous. I don't... When we talked about this, there's... We've never... What? No, no, no, no, no. There's... It's nothing. It's a repeat burglar. A repeat burglar? Yeah. Who looks exactly like Noah. He's out in the woods. There's no light. It could be anyone.

09:31
Yeah. Yeah. It could be anyone, except it's the one person that looks exactly like him. You heard his voice. Everyone looks like that with that voice around here.

09:39
I mean... Yeah, but everyone's still unique, you know? We were told that as kids.

09:47
Kids, whatever.

09:48
They weren't. And... On that note, there's... What? There's... There's... These dupes going around? Of people? This is...

10:02
We've got kidnappings. We have a safety crisis. But let's not take away from the safety by saying that it's paranormal, that it's supernatural.

10:14
We just got some... There's something else going on. But let's not try to confound and confuse every...

10:25
I'm doing the show because I'm your friend. But at the end of the day, this is something... No. It's like everyone's playing a prank on us.

10:35
But you had your own story, Luke. That story is...

10:42
It's a childhood. It's being afraid of the dark. It's not wanting to turn the light switch off. It's having a night light.

10:51
It's the same thing. Sometimes that stuff lingers with you, but it's not anything. It's superstition. It's leaving a hat on the bed.

11:06
I don't know. Maybe you're right. It seems like it can't be a coincidence with what Sophie sent me and what she said. I know you don't like her, but it can't all be a coincidence, I don't think.

11:27
So what do you think it is? The expert. I'm not the expert, Luke. I... I'm not saying I know what it is. I... I don't know anything. Like, I'm just saying that when multiple people in this small town have very similar stories, that's not something to scoff at.

11:49
You know? And... I don't know. I don't want to argue with you again, Luke. I don't like when we get like this. No, it's not good, but I'm reaching to what's in here. I'm trying to be reasonable, and I'm trying to be... Can we just talk about this all here?

12:09
Yeah. Okay. Thank you, guys, for listening, and thank you, Noah, for calling in. We're going to have to break now, but we'll be right back. You have been listening to the Overnight Radio Hour. I'm Rae. And I'm Luke. And we'll see you again in three minutes.

12:28

15:01
Welcome back. You're listening to the Overnight Radio Hour here on WGLE.

15:07
We already have another caller on the line. Thank you, anyone tuning in. Hey, hello, caller. What's your name? What's your name and what you calling for? Howdy, y'all. My name's Eli. I'm just kind of flipping through the stations here. Heard y'all figured I'd give a ring, throw my story into the, I don't know, all of it. Well, thank you. All right, well.

15:30
This told me a while ago by a close friend of my family. It happened over Eels Lake, Ontario in around the 90s. Well, we'll just refer to my friend as Cliff. I don't want to spill his business everywhere. But Cliff, out one night, they're out in this area with a lot of hunting groups out.

15:52
And so at night, he'd make rounds on his ATV, drink at all the little camps, make as many friends as he could. And then one night, sometime early in the morning, like 1, 5, somewhere between 1 and 5 a.m., he decided to head back to his base camp.

16:08
When he pulled in, he noticed that there was somebody standing out by his woodshed, bordering the tree line. He had been there with his wife, and so he just assumed it was his wife. So he dismounted his ATV, who he assumed would be his wife, asked him to go on a night walk through the woods and up to a clearing that we call The Mountain.

16:28
The Mountain's like well up this trail, kind of in the middle of nowhere.

16:33
And he instantly heard his wife's voice, and he agreed. But first he had to run inside and use the toilet a little bit.

16:40
And his wife, oddly, protested. I mean, she usually is real with the flow of things, but she was real stern, saying, no, you go on a bush along the walk. And as he went inside, he just riled up their dogs that they brought. But he refused, and he

16:58
He told her, hang on. He ran inside to do whatever he did to his septic. And after finishing his business, he noticed the dogs had just been absent this whole time. They didn't get riled up at all. And so he checked to see if they were okay, and he found them both under the main table of their camp. And even whenever he called, they would not come out. Very well-trained dogs, very well-trained.

17:22
But they just sat there under the table.

17:25
And, you know, not thinking too much about it. He figured they were just scared of something random, you know, you know how dogs are.

17:31
Yeah. But he headed into his bunk room to grab an extra flashlight for his wife. And, you know, he told me he was glad that he had just gotten to know what he did in the bathroom because, you know, he saw in the bunk was his wife sleeping there.

17:47
He just went cold. He had nothing.

17:51
So after a moment of that fear, he went and he grabbed his rifle and loaded it, sat a

17:55
sat inside and lit a small fire until the sun came up with a wink didn't hear a single thing the whole rest of the night and then in the morning he did a little look around the camp and nothing was taken nothing was broken actually no sign of somebody no prints no nothing and you know he told me just like how visceral that experience was he could have sworn that person was his wife even though it was dark he was insistent that like no one sound would have sounded any more like her or look like her.

18:30
Um, and no, he, he, the only thing different was that she would never be so insistent upon him not going inside, but that's not bad out of the ordinary. Uh, but yeah, that's, that's around it.

18:46
Uh, as I could say, you know, my, my family has been in that area for, for many, many years. I've heard a lot of strange stories, uh, in that area, but I've never really encountered anything there myself. However, my great-granddad, he did build some of those first roads out there. And, you know, they did hand tools, horse-drawn buggy and all that.

19:08
And, you know, these woods are not really places where you often see people outside of hunting season.

19:13
And so, he said it was very strange that whenever they'd be walking through these woods, they would see people in the distance behind trees looking at them. You know, couldn't really get too much of a clear picture of them. You know, you would use binoculars or scopes and they would just disappear.

19:30
But certainly strange happenings over there. That's my story. That's a strange tale you just gave. Well, thank you so much for calling in, Eli. Yeah, thanks, Eli. Of course. Thank you for that family tale.

19:43
Once again, we're here on the Overnight Radio Hour. The number is 334-844-9345. Once again, that is 334-

19:52
844-9345. That was Eli. That was Eli, yeah. You ever been camping, Luke? I have. I have been camping. Then we'll go with me. Well, when do you ask?

20:06
I've implied it in our conversation sometimes.

20:09
Well, sometimes I need a little bit more than that. I mean, I... I camp around the beach typically. Oh, well, I've never camped on the beach before. No, I don't. That's in the future. But listen, we've had so many colors. And camping can be scary. Camping can be quite scary. Well, camping, you know, you've got coyotes and birds and bugs and stuff like that. I mean, we're just not used to being outside.

20:43
And apparently there's some creature in the woods, too. Yeah. Oh, always a spooky creature here on the Overnight Radio Hour. Always something else.

20:53
Some other spooky creature. Yeah.

21:01
It's fine. And if you have a spooky creature that you want to talk about, please call us. That's again at 334-844-9345.

21:09
That is again, 334-844-9345 for the Overnight Radio Hour for your spookiest tales. We will hear from you later.

21:27
Do you listen to music that sucks?

21:32
Do you wish you didn't?

21:36
Tune in at midnight every night for more of the Edgy Hour, where we listen to rock, punk, metal, and music that makes you want to put holes in your driveway.

21:49
Your parents will never look at you the same again. Tune in midnight every night for music that'll blow your socks off.

22:02
You're about to hear a radio first. We found a way to get a small man with a tiny microphone actually inside someone's brain. You ready yet, Howard? Not quite. While we're waiting, now's a good time to tell you why we're doing all this. We've picked this person because he's been extremely careless with fire in the forest. He's walked away from campfires, he's tossed lit cigarettes out his car window, and he's never, ever careful with burning debris. He's caused a number of forest fires and doesn't even know it. Norman! Yes, Howard? I think he's there. There's nothing up here. Nothing? Nothing at all. It's like a handball court. Empty and dark. I don't like it here one little bit. I'm leaving. You've just heard a radio first. Most forest fires are started by people who just don't seem to have a brain. Remember, only you... Wait. I'll do that.

22:55
Only you can prevent forest fires. A public service of this station, the Smokey Bear Program, and the Ad Council.

23:05
There's a disease in business today we might call spiritual schizophrenia. You see it in individuals who apply one code of conduct in their personal affairs and a quite different one in business or government. The belief seems to be that we are less responsible as individuals when we make business decisions, that business has a different code.

23:26
When you think about it, that doesn't make sense. Profits are not the only gauge of business success.

23:32
Business doesn't change the priority of values.

23:35
We are born to the community of man first. The others are secondary allegiances.

23:40
Make your personal morality work where you work and see the difference.

23:45
The community of man, God's club. Be an active member. This message has been brought to you by Religion in American Life in cooperation with this station.

24:02
All right, and we're back from break. You're still listening to the Overnight Radio Hour, the spookiest and scariest show, like, ever, I think, at this point, maybe. I'm your host, Rae. And I'm your host, Luke. Yeah, and I'm just saying, with all that's going on, I think it's kind of obvious what's happening, Luke.

24:24
What is so obvious to you that's going on? Well, like, okay, like, with what Sophie said and what, like, Noah called about... Like, all these things make sense, and I know that you're not really into that idea, but come on, it's not a coincidence anymore.

24:42
So, what else? What else is it? What's your explanation? I'm just saying, like, you know, a lot of it connects to the woods, and what if it's, like, a thing to do with that? Like, I don't know, like, there's some weird plants out there.

24:55
You know, like those, like, the zombie ants, you know, that's a fungus, that's a plant. I'm just saying. Zombie ants. I'm not saying it's zombie ants. I'm just saying that, like, weird things happen outside in the woods, in nature.

25:07
You know? Like, what if, what if it's, like, infecting people? I don't know, and, you know, what if they are seeing things, but it's, like, a thing that's making them see the same person, or maybe it is a different person. I'm just saying, like, this is not, I think it's more than just a coincidence. It's not, like, two people caught in with the same story, or three people, or even four people. It's, like, everyone's calling in with the same weird experience. Everyone's listening to Overnight Radio Hour. Everyone, the whole town, the whole, like,

25:39
Okay. Yeah, not everyone is listening to us, but I'm just saying our listeners have very similar stories. I don't know. I... I... Something's weird, but it's not... So what? What? What do you think? It's nothing supernatural. Then, like... It's a crime wave. A crime wave? Yeah. Of people that look exactly like other people? That's absurd, Luke.

26:00
These people don't... These people? Yeah.

26:04
What do you mean by that? Our callers. The people of Brackensville. We don't look...

26:08
What? People look like other people. We're all humans. We're all in Brackensville. Yeah? There's a Brackensville phenotype, like, we've all seen, and we joke about it our whole life. It's like, oh, you can tell that person's from Brackensville. I know, but, like, if I saw myself, I would still know it's me and not Susie down the block. I know myself, and if these people also know themselves, which I assume they do, they're going... they're gonna know.

26:38
I just think we need to explore our options.

26:41
I know you don't believe in the supernatural, but it could be natural, but it's acting like a supernatural thing. I don't know.

26:50
Think about it. We have a caller.

26:53
Hello, caller. You're listening to and calling into the Overnight Radio Hour. What is your name?

26:59
I'm Jimmy.

27:01
Oh, Jimmy. What a surprise. Yeah.

27:06
I saw that... I saw that Thaya girl. I saw... I saw her in the woods.

27:11
You saw her? When? Uh... A while ago.

27:19
Did you contact the police about it? They're still looking for her. I don't like... Yeah, I don't like the police. Why don't you like the police?

27:28
That was getting in the way of stuff, you know?

27:31
Okay, like, was she okay when you saw her? Like, was she... What was going on? Yeah, it was a little creepy. Wasn't really talking. It was kind of weird. Yeah, I can't really... I can't really say much because it was like for like a split second, but... But... But... I can tell you... I'll tell you, something wasn't right. Yeah, I bet something wasn't right because you kidnapped her probably, Jimmy. Huh? No. No?

28:05
Why would you say that, Luke? Jimmy, let's cut the crap.

28:10
We know what's going on, man. Just own it. And what's going on, Lucas?

28:18
That you kidnapped her, and my name's not Lucas. Jimmy. Jim. Well, then I guess we're both wrong about something, because I didn't kidnap her.

28:28
Yeah? Matter of fact, I've been... Now that I'm on the air, let me tell you about this theory I've been having. So, something wasn't right with that one, and I've been listening, tuning in. Don't ask how I got this phone, but I've been tuning in, and I think that there are clones out there, okay? Evil, demonic clones.

28:50
Clones. That would make sense, Luke.

28:55
Clones. That would make sense.

28:59
I'm sorry, Jimmy. He shouldn't have said that to you. Well...

29:07
well what not well i guess enough been said huh whatever listen uh you you can have your little stories you can do whatever you want uh you are probably a criminal and uh i'm yeah this is just this is this is done it's over with all right thank you jimmy uh thank you so much yeah we're gonna go straight to ads uh to psas and okay yeah sorry sorry next time i guess yeah

29:37
And live, don't take a herring until someone woke me up. That's all the time we have tonight, Bracketsville. Thank you for tuning in, thank you for calling in, and thank you for being brave enough to tell it. I'm Luke. And I'm Rae. We'll be back next week on WGLE 91.1 FM.
