Type B Knitting is a weekly knitting podcast for the Type B crafter. Sisters Veronica and Gosia chat about WIPs, yarn, test knits and the knitting projects that don't go as planned, because knitting is a journey, not about the finished garment. New episodes every Tuesday.
Hello, welcome back to Type B Knitting, the podcast with two C's, yappin' and yappin' about. Knitting and knitting things and knitting drama. I'm one of the sisters, Gosia, and I'm the other sister, Veronica. And speaking of other things in drama, there has been a lot of drama with Hobie recently. I'm no expert, but I do love to tee. I do love looking into all of these, what do you call them? Like when people do these types of videos, like the research videos? I don't know, like, yeah, like whatever. I love when people do deep dive tee videos going into all the drama. I was watching about other knitting community drama, but I want to shout out CozyCrochetCo. She had a video on the start of a bigger problem with the Hobie AI controversy, so I highly recommend that. And also I watched Aspen in the moment.
They have really great videos going into all the detail, and they do a lot of the research and looking into all of it. I'm not that girly. I will let somebody else do it, and I'll just like hear about it. And their video was unraveling the lore about the knitting competition, and they kind of also mentioned the Hobie drama there. But the drama being that this yarn website that sells yarn is using AI, and like more and more in their like photography, they're trying to use AI. And there was like this controversy with like using a pattern designer that used AI to make knitting patterns. So that's kind of where like the fear is. It's like you're just gonna be producing all this AI work, and it's like AI slop and not really high quality work. So to tie into today's episode, let's keep on AI. I came up with a game where Veronica, you're gonna be the contestant. And this game is knitting bop or AI slop. I went into chat GPT, and I tried to have it create unique pattern names. So Veronica, you're gonna be trying to guess which is the AI name and which is like an actual pattern. And I'm gonna, and then once we figure it out, I'm gonna shout out which one's the real one. And I also have, um, like a real alternative to the AI one. Okay, playing as we're playing, so we'll be able to shout out even more designers that like don't use AI that put all their heart and soul into creating really great knitting patterns with like their testers and making sure it works. So the only AI used here is a Marianne. Okay, so we have the first one. So we have star Briar vest, or bronze new vest. Which one do you think is the knitting pattern AI name knitting bop or AI slop?
Can you it's the star Briar vest. And then what's the second one? Bronze new vest, bronze new. I thought it was like two separate ones. That's one word bronze new. Yeah. Oh man. Okay. I don't want to be me but I like bronze new is not a word I'm familiar with. So I'm like that could be just like AI generating like a word. But at the same time star Briar vest like that like I'm trying to like imagine this is knitted right? Uh, yeah, I mostly picked knitted patterns because I'm also trying to think of like how I mean, you could I know you could and like in tarsier and stuff like that. But like, how could you knit like a star or like duplicate stitch as well? I mean, you could do that that would be pretty simple. Um, oh man, this is hard. Okay, I'm gonna say the star Briar vest is AI slop just because it's very like straightforward. Very good. Yeah, that one is the AI one. Oh, wait.
What is this bronze new thing? What is that? By Maya wild. So it's just like a really cute vest, like a sweater without sleeves. Very simple. But like, it's like such a really nice, like modern, not modern, like minimal piece, bronze, new, interesting. Okay, fun, cute. And star Briar rest. That's an AI growth. Yuck. Boo. And our highlight instead of yucky AI. Boo. I want to highlight the strawberry sweater by let pool. And girl, I went down a rabbit hole with let pool and like fell in love with so many of her patterns. Oh, that's cute. Yeah, the strawberry sweater has like a really interesting like neck collar. It's almost like this double fold or something. And the sleeves are really cute too. Something else that caught my eye. She has the Betty jacket, which is like this so fun fur piece.
Well, that's crazy. Yeah, like how do you make that in a knitted item? It's literally knitted, but looks like a fur jacket. And I'm like, that's really cool. Unfortunately, she uses Kobe yarn. But there's, you know, there's, there's alternatives. Yeah, there's alternatives. Wait, I'm so does she list like what Kobe soft lash? Interesting. It's very like lash. Oh, interesting. That's so cool. I love that. She has really cool stuff. She has these pants, which are like sequent pants. Love. Oh, that's fun. A sequent dress. Very fun. Papillon sweater. It's like this bubbly like braided sweater. Yeah, it's like a really cool cable. Yes, and a super chunky yarn. And then something that I will probably be putting on my project list. I have to find it's pants. I've been kind of wanting to knit pants, which is insane. But I think would be so fun. It's the solo trousers that are ribbed and are like flared at the bottom and has pockets front pockets. But I thought these are so fun. And like, super like out there like, yeah, really fun type of design. So I really wanted to shout out this pattern designer. So it's so cool. Yeah, no. Yeah, I could never know. Oh my god, no. And even if they tried the like pattern wouldn't make any sense. I feel like even for that. Papillon sweater.
Yeah, I feel like the cables for that like AI would just get so wrong. And it would turn out like if you ever seen AI generated images, it just ends up like blending out together. It's gonna be yeah, hot mess. Yep. 100%. All right. Next round, we have one is a knitting bop. The other is AI slop. We have Salveliness sweater and North Bay sweater. That was Salveliness sweater, North Bay sweater. I am leaning towards the Salveliness sweater being real just because again, like the name is very interesting. It's giving like really cool Danish Nordic that type of vibe designer and I'm imagining it in like really cool like fair isle. And then like, yeah, I feel like that's I don't know. I feel like that's the real one. I think North Bay sweaters AI slot.
You're right. Salveliness is I believe fish means fish. Wait, was that right? Is it fair isle? Oh, darn it. It's not. No, um, it looks like a either entire jar or maybe double duplicate stitch rainbow trout on the front, which absolutely love cute. So fun. So the Salveliness fish sweater by Lacey Williamson. It was really funny because I wanted something that was like the halibut sweater just to bring it back to that. I know I was like, I was I was literally thinking about that. That's why I said for isle because I was just it was just giving, I don't know, I had a feeling you were gonna do that. Like my intuition was like, yeah, she's gonna try and pull a fast one on me. Absolutely. Yep, I would definitely pull a fast one on you.
Also, so I went into chat GPT and I told it like pull really unique ideas for knitting patterns that have never been used before. But AI sucks so bad that it was kind of pulling like real patterns. It was just a little bit different. Oh, I say that. Yeah, I say that because it pulled North Bay sweater, which isn't a thing. But there is a North Bay raglan sweater by North Bay fiber. Interesting. Yeah, what that's like, why are you stealing from this great yarn store yarn seller and they have patterns? Come on. It's kind of like this like basket weave design for a like more fitted style of sweater. Pretty cute. Yeah, that is cute. That's a really interesting stitch. Pretty cool. It looks like it's mostly like knit and pearls that are switched off to give it like this like basket weave. It feels very like cozy, comfy. Yeah, I like the texture on that. That's actually super cute. And it's funny that you're like, pull me really unique names and it's like North Bay. Oh, yeah. And you're like, okay, girl, like, come on.
Like, you know, I don't know, the most boring. Yeah, like it's not giving. What is it like the cell cell the leanest? It's not doing cell the leanest. It's saying North Bay and it's freaking ripping off a store literally. It's like, girl, come on. That's the best you can. That's the best you could do literally. And it's like, yeah, it's all like I get it. But it's also nothing will have like that human touch, you know, that human like element to it, because these just sound more boring or like, you know, I feel like I sometimes use AI, but it's kind of more of like a jumping off point for me more than like a copy paste, you know, so it's like, if it was giving me like, I feel like sometimes kind of like a conversation, like when you're talking to someone and like talking something through, it'll like trigger a different idea. And it'll be like, Oh, like, I'm not using what we just talked about. But it did remind me of XYZ. And then you're like, Oh, okay. Oh, yeah. You know, so like, I, I do feel like, you know, if you're like in a rut, sometimes it might be helpful. Or again, just like writing things down, writing things out, thinking it through. But yeah, I feel like it's good for some things. But I don't know. Yeah, it's definitely left lacking like that human touch in like the creative aspects of, you know, life.
Yeah, no, I absolutely agree. I feel like it's not going anywhere. It's kind of like screwed if you do screwed if you don't. So I have to like use it. But I definitely feel like, oh, like as a tool sure, but not like everything. Yeah, you shouldn't be like relying on it. You should still be like self sufficient and you know, have your own ideas. Absolutely. Yeah. Okay. Um, I had one more last round. I have flower sweater or Aurora spindle sweater. Interesting. This one, that one's hard because like, flower sweater is just so generic. But I think you gave me a I don't know. I feel like you gave me a hint because you said unique pattern name. So like Aurora spindle sweater could be a I slop where it's like Aurora Borealis plus like what is a spindle have to do anything with like a sweater, you know, but then at the same time, it could just be like flower sweater. I did make it hard. I'm gonna say the Aurora spindle sweater is not real. But the Aurora spindle sweater is AI. Yeah. Yeah. Because it just doesn't make sense. It just doesn't make sense. critical thinking. Yeah, critical thinking. Right. Very good job. I'm I was like, I don't want to make this too hard because I don't want to make AI sound good.
But also like, I feel like once you I think the first one was a learning. Oh, that's cute. Oh, I've seen this. Yeah. So the flower sweater by Trico Moraine, Mary, maybe. It's cute. It's super cute. Um, did she make the quilt cardigan by chance? Or am I tripping? No, I think I'm tripping. Um, oh, that's super cute. Yeah, that flower. What are so cute. I love I love like a nod to like quilting motifs and knitting. I think it's so cute. Because I don't know how to measure and I don't know how to cut. So like, quilting is just not for me. I need retirement to figure that out. But I'm like saving quilting for my retirement because I just don't think I could do it right now. But I love when it's ending. I think it's so cute. I absolutely love it. It looks gorgeous. And like this sweater is no different. It's so cute. Yeah, it's very fun. I like the color work on the bottom half of the body. Yeah. And, uh, boo, we hate AI instead of the Aurora spin.
Do you love that? It's our booing here. Uh, screw the Aurora spindle sweater. What do you know about Aurora sweater by nit Lind? It's a really like, feels very simple, but it has this fun like ruffle cuff. I love this girl's vibes. These pictures are so great. Yeah, very like romantic. She like, I don't want to say Bridgerton, but like very like I was gonna say Amish, but in like the best way possible. Like literally the best way possible. Like slay like cottage. Yes. Cottage core. Yeah. Ooh, the gloves that she has are super cool. Yeah. She has a lot of fun color work gloves. Or the mittens. Mittens, yes. Um, so there's the Aurora sweater and then the matching Aurora skirt that she pairs it together, which almost gives it like a, like a dress vibe. Um, that's cute. Very cute. Very like fun, romantic. Um, girl on a prairie type. Heck beat, you know? Yeah. 100%.
That's fun. Oh, I like that. I'm like, I'm very impressed with how you did. I was worried that I made it too. No, I feel like again, like once we talked it through, I kind of like, because you told it to like give you like unique names, I, I feel like that kind of gave a hint where I'm like, if a name seems like it's doing too much, then that's when you know it's AI, you know? Cause it's like, you know, if you break it down, like that spindle sweater, it's like, okay, well, why does it, why is it Aurora spindle? Like what is there a spindle on it? Like what the heck is going on? So it just like literally combines. It's like, this is a knitting word and this is a knitting term and let me just mix it all together and no one will know the difference. And it's like, girl, come on. Literally. Who would have thought that a human touch feels the most human and the most genuine because an actual human thought about why it is the way it is. Yeah, right. Uh, Veronica, thanks for playing my game.
Thanks for, uh, dogging on AI with me. On the Instagram, we will highlight all of these beautiful knitting patterns. Uh, so if you want to check them out, go to our Instagram. That's right. Type B knitting pod. Veronica puts her whole soul into all the posts. They're gorgeous more and more every time. I try. That master's degree in Canva is coming in handy. Yes. Yes. Master's degree in Canva guys. Um, yeah, follow us on typing knitting podcasts. We're getting some more comments. Shout out. Love to see it. I love the engagement. We actually had someone, um, talk about how they couldn't go to like the Chicago Yarn Con. So she said that she was going to, um, the Wisconsin one instead. And she's, you know, she was saying that she's, you know, super excited about that one. And I'm like, Oh, I wonder if we should do that next.
I feel like that would be so fun. It's the Stevenson County. Um, oh, sorry. Just kidding. She's saving for the Wisconsin sheep and wool. And in parentheses, she said one of the best. So I feel like we got to put that on our list to go next year. When is that one? I have no idea. I didn't do. I'm curious when it is and where it is. Literally. Uh, Jefferson, Wisconsin. It is September. Oh, it's in September. It's September 11th through the 13th. Always the weekend after labor day. Oh, okay. Good. Um, well, that's exciting. We might, uh, attend that if it's one of the best. Okay. Recommended as one of the best. I think it is recommended by one of the best. And then they actually have like the sheep there. Obviously because it's sheep and wool, but like they have a bunch of sheep there and they're so cute. Wait, I want to, I want to pet a sheep. I want to hang out with a little sheep. I feel like we have to go. I know. I feel like we have to go. Um, yeah, but thank you guys so much for listening to this episode of type B knitting. I'm Veronica and I'm Gosham and we'll talk to you guys later.
Catch you in the next one. Bye. Bye.
