Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

Let your prayer be, “Take me, O Lord, as wholly Thine. I lay all my
plans at Thy feet. Use me today in Thy service. Abide with me, and let
all my work be wrought in Thee.” – Steps to Christ, pg. 70
“This is your stop,” our Bible worker informed us, as
he stopped our van along the side of the street. I scanned my
surroundings apprehensively as my friend and I scurried across the
street. My feet had barely touched the opposite sidewalk when a
black pickup truck came tearing around the corner, a slew of angry
profanities spewing from the irate man behind the wheel. Fear mingled
with discouragement to complete my sour mood.
My friend, however, seemed completely unbothered by this
display of pointless outrage, and calmly continued down the street,
intent on selling a few more books before the evening was over.
Gathering a little courage from her unruffled disposition, I wearily
trekked after her down the sidewalk. God, we haven’t sold anything
today, I prayed silently, as we climbed the stairs to the house. Please,
change my attitude, and use me to bless someone.
A sweet-looking, elderly lady answered my timid knock, and
my friend began the canned speech we’d been repeating all day. As
she finished, a hopeful look came across the lady’s face. “My husband
just died last week,” she said, tears glittering in her eyes. “I would be
interested in buying that book. How much is it?” My friend named the
price, and with no hesitation, she said she’d buy it. We asked if we
could pray with her, and she gratefully accepted. As we left, she told
us: “Thank you so much, girls. God sent you to me.”
As we left the house, I silently praised God for answering my
prayer. I realized that it wasn’t until I asked God to change my focus
from myself to helping others that He was able to use me to bring
hope to a hurting soul.
