What is Clydesdale Media Podcast?

We cover the sport of CrossFit from all angles. We talk with athletes, coaches and celebrities that compete and surround in the sport of CrossFit at all levels. We also bring you Breaking News, Human Interest Stories and report on the Methodology of CrossFit. We also use the methodology to make ourselves the fittest we can be.

what is going on everybody

welcome to lunchtime that's

right it's our time to get

a break from the work day

it's lunchtime with the

clydesdale gonna talk about

some stuff today sorry if I

interrupted the darren

hunsaker interview which

has been awesome this

morning I always like

listening to darren I know

I think it was either this

week or last week where the

spin did uh like top five

of people you'd like to

take a road trip with

Darren Hunsaker would be

number one on my list of

people that I would like to

hang out on a long road

trip with and just shoot the breeze.

I think that he would be

awesome just to chat with

for a good long road trip.

Since I have one coming up,

Something I thought about,

but what great stories this morning,

reminiscing about the old days of mayhem.

I always love when Darren is

on any kind of show.

So, so yeah, awesome stuff over there.

If you're still watching,

if people are still watching that,

I completely understand.

So yesterday we did a show

talking about Tia Claire to

me announcing that she was

saying goodbye.

And then yesterday after the show,

I listened to the proven

podcast where she was a guest.

And now I am more confused than ever.

I think Tia is becoming the

Aaron Rodgers of CrossFit.

Everything is so cryptic.

Everything is done in little

sound bites here and there,

and you're trying to piece it together.

And at the end of the day,

none of it makes sense.

And we're all kind of left feeling like,

I don't know what's going to go on.

what's up Andrew hey I

forgot to throw my dart

gotta do that so here we

here we go I'm gonna move

my mic this time that was

weak I did hit the board

double nine maybe again up

there in the upper left but

I did hit the board not the

wall so we'll call that a win for the day

Got to keep people wondering

so they keep watching when

you post something.

Clearly, it's calculated.

I think what's confusing to me,

not confusing to me,

what's hard for me is while

I think that Tia is the

goat when it comes to

CrossFit athletes of all time,

I think that it's so hard

to listen to her.

as great as she is as an

athlete I've never been a

fan of her internet content

um I'm not a big fan of

just watching people work

out in in training sessions

um I know other people like

that stuff I want to hear

stories I want to hear and

so I remember like way back in the day

And when Craig and jazz used

to tour around to different athletes,

they would travel with Shane and Tia.

And during those sessions,

they were very interesting.

You'd get great stories.

You get funny anecdotes.

Then when they started doing

their own stuff, it just went blah.

And it just,

everything is talking in circles.

And so I guess,

I'm just going to play a

couple things to try to

figure this all out.

And so the first thing I'm

going to play is the

Instagram video that was

posted on Wednesday that

made us think that it was the end.

So first we have this

Instagram video where she is talking,

and I'm going to go ahead and hit play.

Hit play.

This time,

it's my moment to say goodbye to

this chapter.

This sport has given me everything.

Every challenge.

Every triumph.

So goodbye to this chapter.

And then she talks about the sport.

So we're assuming that the

chapter is her CrossFit career.

That's what she's leading us to believe.

She's showing us clips now

of her CrossFit career.

And most importantly,

the incredible community

that surrounds it.

Competing to be the most... Again,

fans in the crowd of a

CrossFit event saying

goodbye to the community.

dominant athlete in CrossFit

history has been my life,

my passion and my purpose.

And it shaped me in ways I

could never have imagined.

But I'm always going to

remember and be so grateful for the love,

the lessons and the legacy

I will continue on striving to build.

So she's talking about her

career and kind of like a

past tense kind of thing.

Now it feels only right to

bring it full circle celebrating.

And then she goes on to talk

about the Torian pro and

wanting to do it all in

front of her Aussie crowd

and their Aussie family.

And that she hadn't been

there in a few years

because she had gotten the

exemption to do the

semifinals here in the States.

So she hadn't gone back to

Australia and now, um,

This was going to be her

first time back in a couple

of years and apparently her

last to say goodbye to this chapter.

So that's what I took from that.

If you watch the long form YouTube video,

it's very much the same thing.

It just kind of talks about

other things before.

And this clip is from it at the end,

kind of dissecting that she

is saying goodbye, saying goodbye.

So then we did a whole show

yesterday about her saying goodbye.

What does that do to the

field now at the CrossFit Games?

You don't have the most

dominant woman in the sport back anymore.

What could that mean?

So then after the show yesterday,

we pull up this proven podcast.

And so leading up to this,

she talks about...

the celebration in Australia

and how she wants that to happen.

But she also talks vaguely

about that she has to give

her all to the High Rocks

partners that she is

partnering with at the

World Championships.

Both James Newberry and her female partner,

she's competing in both

groups in the duos at High Rocks.

Sorry, I got that tickle back.

So she talks about that.

And then they talk about how

she has to reduce her

strength to increase her speed.

But in some ways that

strength can help in high rocks,

but never can it reduce her speed.

And they talk about the

difficulties of doing both.

but that she feels she could

do both and so these world

championships are after the

torian pro and then but

she's talking about doing

both well if torian pro's

the end and then the world

championships and then the

games at that point there

really should not be both

But she's talking about it

like there is both still at that point.

And then she says this.

Fitting to like celebrate in

front of a home crowd.

And I've definitely been in

front of a home crowd before.

But I actually want to take

this moment in case like there's never,

ever going to be another time.

In case.

There's never,

ever going to be another time.

Not that there won't be another time,

but in case.

So now we're getting into

much more vague

descriptions of what this is going to be.

I want my family, my friends,

my Aussie crowd to be there

to celebrate with me,

whatever the future holds.

Whatever the future holds.

Now,

that Instagram video was done in a way

saying goodbye to this chapter of my life,

sounding very definitive.

Now we're talking in this cryptic,

if it never happens again,

whatever it may hold, and very,

very cryptic messages and

very contradictory to the

two pieces of media that

came out just less than

twenty four hours apart from each other.

And it's,

it's only fitting to do it at the

Torian pro because like,

I know Mike and Jono so well,

like throughout my whole career.

So it's.

So.

She goes on to talk about

the Torian Pro and why it

should be the Torian Pro

where she ends it.

That all makes sense to me.

She is Australian.

That is the biggest event in Australia.

It is a rock concert event.

Everybody that's ever been

there says it's one of the

greatest events to attend.

Her announcing her going

there and it possibly being

her last time there is

going to sell tickets.

It's going to sell the place out.

So I think all this is fine.

But why do we have to come

back to these cryptic

messages to keep everybody guessing?

It just seems like over the

last few years.

And again, it's very,

very parallel to the Aaron

Rodgers situation.

Aaron Rogers with these cryptic messages,

you know,

when he went to the jets and

then is he going to come

back for another year?

And, and now it's, you know,

am I going to the Steelers?

Am I going to the Vikings?

Am I,

and then he has a thing yesterday

with Pat McAfee that is

just as cryptic as everything else.

Um,

And now we have Tia doing the same thing.

We had the games where Sean

Woodland announced that it

was going to be her retirement.

And he was told that by one

of her camp members.

Then all of a sudden, Tia changes course.

She then announces she's pregnant.

So she has Willow.

She takes a year off.

She comes back.

She wins the games.

So on.

The rest is history.

Now we're back to

I'm saying goodbye.

Well, maybe it's goodbye.

We'll see what the future holds.

I'm just,

I'm kind of getting over this

back and forth thing with Tia.

Um, what I'll tell you is Sunday night,

we're going to dive into

this a little bit more, what this means.

Um,

Carolyn actually did a really big deep

dive into the mindset of a

champion athlete with what she said.

Um,

And that's a perspective

that like me is just an

average Joe wouldn't have.

Uh,

but Carolyn picked up some really

interesting pieces along

the way that we'll be

talking about on the Sunday show.

Um,

So look forward to that.

At this point,

I guess it's still up in the air.

And you would think with all the questions,

if there was a definitive response,

maybe she'd make that now

to kind of clear this up.

Or maybe she likes that it's

up in the air and not definitive.

And like Andrew said, clearly calculated.

I don't know.

But it's funny because she

made the announcement on Wednesday.

Gosh,

every podcast in the space put out a

goodbye.

Every news source put a goodbye.

And then everybody after that, you know,

Barbell Spin put out a thing.

Is she saying goodbye?

So it's going to be weird.

for sure.

James Tia is the goat of

CrossFit and now clickbait.

You got that right.

She is killing,

killing the clickbait right now.

but one thing,

one thing I will say about this podcast,

you can tell she loves high

rocks and what she loves

about it is the community

and getting to work out

with the community, um, giving fist bumps,

giving all that kind of

stuff with everybody live in person.

Um, one thing that she,

she was very emphatic about

is she does not like to do

the online versions of CrossFit.

Um,

she is not doing the online

uh qualifying event in

affiliate of qualifying

event she is only doing

torian pro so that will be

her one shot to make the

crossfit games if she

chooses to go that

direction so uh but it's

out there if you want to

check it out uh it's on the

proven fitness youtube page

uh it's about an hour in

length uh if you want to check that out

So there we go.

Um,

the other thing coming up this weekend

is Copa, sir.

Um, they, that will be the South American,

uh,

CrossFit qualifying event for the

CrossFit games in person.

Um, that kicks off today.

Um, let me check.

I know the barbell spin posted, uh,

how to watch it.

Um,

so I'm trying to pull that

up I've been having trouble

with their site lately but

um so copasaur starts today

at twelve ten sorry started

twelve ten eastern time um

no two ten two ten eastern

time sorry the page went

away for a second so from

two ten to four forty today

eastern time will be event

one and then tomorrow will

be events two and three

from eleven thirty six a.m

to three thirty three pm

eastern time and then

sunday is eight a.m eastern

time to two eighteen p.m

eastern time and that's

three events so one two

three format for the weekend

That will be down in Copasor.

They have their workouts announced.

Road to Hell is the first one.

Five rounds for time,

eight hundred meter run, ten thrusters.

Time cap, thirty minutes.

Very similar to what started

the Mayhem Classic.

Individual event two is a

barbell complex of three

attempts for a max load, three cleans,

two front squats, one jerk.

That's been done a few times

at the semifinal level.

um individual event three is

the thirty thirty thirty uh

that we saw at mayhem and

again I think mayhem is

actually programming this

so uh it doesn't it doesn't

seem that off that it's

very similar to what the

mayhem classic was

individual event four is a triple chipper

for total reps in a three in

three four minute intervals

a hundred double unders two

c seated legless rope

climbs twenty five toes to

bar max burpee over the box

I think we've seen similar

to that at a at a

semi-final event only

instead of seat seated

legless it was muscle ups

with a rucksack uh

one minute rest between the intervals.

Then we have heavy Isabel

and it finishes up with the

last one standing twenty five.

Part one for time is sixteen

twelve echo bite calories,

twelve one legged squats,

ninety six foot handstand walk.

um, eight, eight to six echo bike, six,

one legged squats, uh,

fifty and thirty five and

forty eight foot handstand

walk time cap four minutes.

Fastest ten athletes advanced to part two.

Um,

will be then twelve to eight

calorie echo bike eight

one-legged squats forty

eight foot handstand walk

time cap two minutes five

elimination rounds so they

are doing an elimination

style event to finish up uh

copasaur and there's

pirouettes every forty

eight feet on the handstand

walks so those are the uh

are the workouts uh some of

the big names down there on

the female side are julia

cato andrea pinero victoria

campos oh they are not

competing this year I'm

sorry so julie cato andrea

pinero and victoria campos

are all not competing this

year um but we do have

caitlyn souza bruno marins

who made it to the games

last year they'll be competing

And it looks like,

and I believe this is one

of the events where it's

exclusive to the people

from South America.

So all of the athletes

competing are from South America.

The Barbell Spin has listed

the links to the English

broadcast for the event.

You can go to thebarbellspin.com,

and they have all three links to Friday,

Saturday,

and Sunday to the YouTube feed

of the English broadcast.

They're also going to be

broadcasting in Spanish and Portuguese.

So you have three options

for languages to watch Copasaur.

And thank goodness one of those is English,

and we can watch this weekend.

And I'm sure we'll be doing

a full recap with the

ladies on Sunday Night CrossFit Talk,

so make sure you tune in for that.

I wonder what else is going

on in the space today.

Looks like Syndicate Crown

and TFX are putting out

their confirmed reports

throughout the week.

I'm just going to slide.

I'm going to share my screen.

Do a scroll of Instagram.

See what we have out there today.

Danielle Brandon has been confirmed.

I think the most important part is.

Hello, Gabby McGowan there.

Just a little update.

There's Facundo down in Copasur.

What do we got here?

Syndicate Crown put out their schedule,

but we're still a month away from that.

Trying to see what we got.

There is the arena for Copa Sewer.

That looks actually really nice.

Looks very intimate.

Yeah, I like that a lot.

That's a nice arena set up

for a CrossFit event.

I think those are the places

that we need to look at in the future.

Not these huge arenas,

but just smaller intimate

setting ones where you're

really close to the floor.

Dallin Pepper's confirmed for Syndicate.

Until he qualifies in the online.

Got some Belgrade game stuff going on.

It's been kind of a slow

news day this week or slow

news day today.

It's really all about Tia.

Kind of catching up on that.

There's Thor.

That guy's so big.

So big.

All right.

Yeah,

I was just doing a quick scroll to

see what we had.

But doesn't look like

anything major is happening today.

Got my daughter coming in

for Easter this weekend.

That's going to be fun.

Uh,

so we've got that going on and we're

going to be prepping for a

trip to Montana.

So that is going to start

either Wednesday or Thursday.

Um, yeah.

You guys doing anything

special for Easter this week?

Uh, I think my daughter,

she loves smoked ribs.

Uh, so I'm going to make some smoked ribs.

Sunday morning.

Uh, so we can have those for Easter lunch.

Um, and I think that's really,

we've got that.

She's going to do a,

she's doing a senior

picture picture patch

package for someone here in

Columbus on Saturday.

Then we go get her pickup truck on Sunday,

uh,

I get my second car back for

the first time in a year, over a year.

That'll be nice.

That'll make getting to the

gym so much easier.

Wow.

We have Meredith Jones must be rich,

dying some Easter eggs with kids.

We did that like last year

still with my daughter.

She'll be twenty five in

July and she still loves

dying Easter eggs.

But man,

they want so much money for a

dozen eggs right now.

It is insane.

And I don't I mean,

I've heard it's like the Asian bird flu,

but that has gone away.

Yet we're still like

charging a fortune for a dozen eggs.

Like, what's the deal with that?

And why?

Why?

Why are eggs the thing that I mean,

my chicken prices didn't go up.

At the same rate the egg prices did.

I'm really thoroughly

confused at the reasoning

behind all of this.

It just doesn't seem to make any sense.

Maybe I should buy some chickens.

Put them in my backyard and

do my own eggs.

I used to eat so many eggs a day.

That when we would go to the store,

like the checkout person would go like,

are you guys baking cakes?

Because there were so many dozen eggs.

And I've really backed off

to like not eating eggs for

the last couple months just

because the expense is way too much.

And I miss it.

I miss having some eggs in the morning.

And I really miss having

deviled eggs at Easter.

I love a good deviled egg.

I like any kind of egg.

Like poached eggs.

I like poached eggs.

I like eggs once over easy.

I like... I'm not a big scrambled egg guy,

but I can do it.

So...

We did an Easter egg hunt

until like two years ago.

My daughter and I did an

Easter egg hunt against each other.

My wife had hid them.

She made us do it at night

where we couldn't see.

We had to use flashlights,

which made it a little more

difficult for sure.

That was crazy.

I guess the last thing I'll talk about is,

I don't know if you saw my Instagram post,

but I finished a Lego

DeLorean time machine from

the Back to the Future movies.

And I broke down and I ended

up buying the light kit for it.

So I'm waiting for that to come.

And it's supposed to be like, at a minimum,

a two-hour build to pull

apart the bricks and to put

the lights and the wires

into the bricks so they're hidden.

But when it's all done,

like the headlights will light up,

the taillights will light up,

the flux capacitor will light up,

the inside of the car will light up,

and then all of the hoses

coming down the side of the

car will light up as well.

So I'm super excited about that.

And the reason I did that is

when it sits in the sun and

the sunlight shines through

the glass bricks of the car,

it looks phenomenal.

but you only get that like

in that natural sunlight kind of thing.

And so I thought, what the heck,

I'll go ahead,

I'll buy this light kit to

put this together.

And everybody who's done it

says it's phenomenal when

you take the time to do it,

but it is a couple hour process.

And you have to pull the bricks apart,

put the wires in there and

then click them back together.

But it hides the wire inside the bricks.

So I'm super excited to see

what that looks like.

So hopefully those will be

here in the next couple days.

But yeah, that's what I do to relax,

to just kind of,

and nothing calms me down more than that.

Just the clicking of those

bricks together.

It's like I'm accomplishing

something and it makes me

feel so much better.

So much better.

Well, with that guys,

of a slow news day and I

want to save some of the

tia claire stuff uh for the

sunday night show with uh

jamie and carolyn um more

of more of the people I

know that are in the

masters are getting their

emails validated and it's

official that they're

coming to columbus for the

masters crossfit games

which is going to be a

blast can't wait for that another net

It's time to get back to work,

you knuckleheads.

Lunchtime is over.

Oh,

Jay Birch signed up for the Masters

Games.

So it was to compete, Jay Birch?

Or to judge?

Oh, to volunteer.

Gotcha.

Didn't know if you paid the

man so much that you took a step up.

Last year,

they had three floors all

running at the same time,

which means you have to

have enough judges to cover

three floors at all times.

So I think your shot is pretty good.

That's a lot of people.

A lot of people.

And you just took your online L-One, right,

Jay Birch?

Do you have a certificate yet,

or are you still waiting on that?

Do you still have to test?

Andrew Sten says, yes,

we'll need a lot of judges.

Yeah, they are the,

I know they get a lot of flack sometimes.

They are the unsung heroes

of these events.

You have ten lanes, three floors,

that's thirty judges at one time.

And if you want to give

anybody a break during the day,

you need to,

you need to have probably

double that at least.

Jaybert says he signed his agreement,

so he should be finished.

That is awesome.

That is so awesome.

I can't wait to see you out on the floor,

buddy.

Maybe Andrew will be your head judge.

so yeah judges are the

unsung heroes of these

events it takes a lot of

them they don't get paid

they volunteer their time

they do it for a free meal

sometimes they don't even

get that sometimes it you

know they're working so

hard they get a cold

version of the meal um you

know an hour after the fact

that it came out but uh but yeah

That's why I love when the

athletes go out and shake

the hand and thank the

judge because that means a ton to them.

It just means a ton.

Andrew will be one of the

three head judges.

So that's awesome.

I didn't doubt that for a minute.

Andrew is one of the biggest

supporters in the judging

world for the Masters community.

And he should be head judge

for that event for sure.

All right, guys.

With that, sorry,

we don't have a ton to talk about today.

But I did get my iPad in the

mail yesterday.

So we are set up to do the

show live from the road

next week once we hit the road.

So that's going to be fun.

There'll be lots to talk about there.

And we'll have some results

Sunday night for Copasaur.

And we'll talk about the TIA

news a little bit more.

Maybe we'll have some

clarity by the time we go

on air Sunday night.

With that, guys, get back to work.

Lunchtime's over.

We'll see everybody next

time on Lunch with the Clydesdale.

Bye, guys.
