Well, hello, and Happy Valentine's Day, I'm actually recording this on V Day. And I'm actually just finished with eating dinner with my family, my husband made steak. So that was pretty awesome. But I wanted to jump on here and talk a little bit about Instagram content strategy. And things I actually noticed in Instagram as far as the shift in algorithm. Now, the thing about the algorithm is it's always changing, and it's always learning. And we know that Instagram came out recently and said that they are a video platform where when Instagram first started, it was all about pictures. And I've been on Instagram for a really long time. And when I used to post pictures, I would get anywhere from five to 8000 Likes on it, and a whole bunch of comments to a bunch of shares and a bunch of saves. And I noticed recently that there's kind of been a drop off and it hasn't been because my pictures have changed. But because algorithm has changed and what people are looking for on Instagram has changed. Ever since Tik Tok kind of blew up, those short videos have really taken over, which is why Instagram created Instagram reels. So I wanted to kind of compare the different content options that you have on Instagram. Of course, we know that we have IG TV, we have stories, we have Instagram Live, you can do a picture post, you can do a video post, you can do reels, there's so many different things that you can actually do on Instagram. Now, although all of those things can be great. There are a lot of different options. So what I actually suggest is that you choose two or three of those, and you stick with them. So that way you don't have to think Well, should I do an igtv? Or should I do this or that you kind of know which ones you like to do most. So for me, I like to do Instagram stories. I like to do Instagram reels. And I also like to do carousel type posts. So a carousel is where you have multiple pictures or multiple videos in a single post. And the great thing about carousels is that if someone looks at the first picture or video, whichever you decide to use, and they keep scrolling, they don't like it, Instagram will actually push the second picture or video in that carousel down into that person's feed again next time that they jump into Instagram. And it will do it again and again until they either like it or it's gone all the way to the end of your carousel. So there are many different places that your carousel is going to be placed in Instagram, which is one of the reasons why I actually love carousels. And if you're not comfortable with utilizing reels at this time, then carousels definitely something you should jump in on. And then Instagram Stories is where I really love to share kind of behind the scene moments or looks into my personal life, it's where my following can kind of connect to me a little bit more, I can share a little bit more of my personality. It doesn't necessarily have to be superduper professional. And I don't know if you follow me on Instagram, but I'm actually not really like that professional on there either. I tend to be really just super real and candid and transparent. That's always my goal with Instagram. So the third option that I really love to post is Instagram reels. So Instagram reels what I have noticed do incredibly well on Instagram as far as the algorithm goes. So I will post a reel and it will typically take a little bit of time to kind of get likes were a picture used to get likes super, super fast. What it reminded me of was 40 volume. When you utilize 40 volume in your highlights. It peaks super high in the first 30 minutes but then it drops off suddenly and you're kind of stuck in a weird stage looking at your foils or looking at your Bolyai and hoping that it's going to lift but it never really does. Were carousels and reels are more like 20 volume, you don't get a huge spike in likes or shares or content interaction in the first initial day. But as things progress, you get a steady lift in all of that content interaction. And for me, my reels will actually do incredibly well over a month period. So I have actually not needed to post nearly as often when I switch to utilizing reels. And I choose my reels by just kind of going in and a watch like a few videos, I refuse to go on the reels tab, and really just kind of zombie out because I don't actually get what I need to do done in that time,

I'll go in, I'll scroll anything that connects with me, I'll copy the link, I'll save it in a note on my phone. And whatever idea that I have to post it, I will put underneath the link. So that way I know kind of where my mind is. And then I can record my own version of that. And I can create a reel for Instagram. So when it comes to your content strategy for Instagram, I absolutely recommend that you actually go in and you choose three different things to post you can do too, if it's a little overwhelming for you. I personally do stories, I do reels. And I do the carousels because those are the ones I've noticed get the most engagement, and are also the most fun for me to do. Stories are definitely my favorite because I feel like I'm able to connect with people on a daily basis. If I want to without feeling overwhelmed, were creating an Instagram post and creating you know, long form worded content can kind of be a little overwhelming. I know, it's kind of hard to think, Oh, what are we going to say on our Instagram posts. But for stories for me, it's kind of a little bit more easy, a little bit more off the cuff. And I can kind of play around with different forms of content like going and asking a question or putting a poll or, you know, whatever else. And it's really helpful for me to kind of engage with my audience and see if I am providing things for them that is that they are looking for. So those are kind of the things as far as Instagram content goes, that I do that's really successful for me. And if you haven't jumped into Instagram reels, I absolutely suggest that you do, what I typically do to get started or I suggest people do to get started is to create a video that is a before a application or processing video, a couple of those, and then the after. And that is just a really solid way to get started. Instagram actually has it now to where you can create the videos. And you can select the music and Instagrams actually going to time each of those transitions to the actual music. So you don't actually have to go in and edit anything, unless you want to add some words or you want to add some gifts or something like that in there, then you can go in and edit it, it's the easiest way to edit videos, you don't have to worry about crazy transitions. And if you grab the person who is watching your video who grabbed that attention from them, in the first few seconds, you're going to get all of the views and all the likes and all of the shares that you want. So when you are creating an Instagram really want to make sure that whatever you are putting out to them is going to grab their initial attention. So something that I really like to do is the first video that they see as a processing video. Or if it's like a really horrible before, then it's something like that something where someone's gonna be like, Whoa, what is that I

Kristen Lumiere 8:56
want to see, and I want to kind of know more, and then they watch through the rest of the video. shorter video lengths will definitely help with view counts. If you have a video that is over 30 seconds, you need to make sure that every single part of that video has a purpose. Otherwise, you're going to get people dropping off. And it's not going to push that video out into the algorithm more so that way you can get more people who are viewing it. Now I get a lot of people saying Why would I post reels when I get all of these random people from different areas, and they are not even near me their nine potential clients. Why would I post there? For me, you have to think about it in a different way. Every single thing that you post on Instagram is going to be viewed by audiences who aren't necessarily your target market or aren't necessarily within your area and aren't looking for a hairstylist. But that doesn't mean that you shouldn't post because Because if every post that you do, it gets, say 100 likes, but only one of those likes is someone who could potentially be a client, it's worth it, it should be well worth it just for that one person. And if you have a 10% return, as far as your posts go, you get 100 likes, and you have one person who decides to jump on your email list, or who decides to go to your website and look at more information about booking with you, then that's a solid win. So you shouldn't be thinking about how many people are actually viewing your content who aren't going to book with you, you should be thinking about the few people who are viewing your content, who actually want to book an appointment with you, you should be talking to those people, not necessarily talking obviously to the people who are just liking your content, because it's good content. But remember, the more likes you get or the more engagement that you get, it's not even necessarily about likes. Now on Instagram, it's more about shares, saves and comments. So anytime you create content, you want to create content that is going to give people a reason to engage with it, posting something that makes someone feel some type of way. So if you post something, it's just a pretty picture and all it says is Summer Sun kiss Bali asure I love offering my clients this. And that's kind of it that doesn't tell me anything other than okay, it's a pretty picture of hair. That's great. But there's 1000s, if not hundreds of 1000s of those are posted every single day. And it's kind of old, you know, you can be a great hairstyles, new great hair, but there has to be more behind it to actually get someone to book with you. And I know I've kind of talked your ear off a little bit about this. This is something I'm superduper passionate about as far as creating a strategy that is less hassle that is actually going to give you results. And I hope that that insight kind of helped a little bit and got your wheels turning so that way you kind of know what to plan for your next posts and maybe creates a similar strategy to mine. And if you do, make sure you share because I want to hear about it and see of course how it works for you. Well, that's all for today's episode.
