How I take time off without
my business falling apart.

Hi, I'm Lucy Griffiths, and welcome
to the Live More, Earn More podcast.

This podcast is all about
living more and also creating

a business and a life you love.

And one of the key things for me,
and the motivation for me about

having this business, is having
the freedom to have adventures.

And that might be mini adventures
with my son, or it might be just

a campervan weekend or hiking
trips or somewhere further afield.

But I love adventure and have spent
many, many years, I went on my first

adventure when I was 10 months old
and we drove across Europe, my parents

and four kids, and I was 10-month-old
baby, and we drove from the UK to

move to Berlin and live in Berlin.

So travel and adventure has
been in my bones since I was

a tiny baby, and I love it.

But also we can get tied up in how on
earth are we gonna, keep the wheels

rolling on our business and so that it
doesn't fall apart when we take time off.

And so this podcast is really
talking about how I juggle that,

and it has changed - and evolved.

So I right now am just about to move
house, and I'm packing up and moving.

The removal men come on Friday,
and I'm just wanting to get a few

podcasts in the bag to keep me
going for the next couple of weeks.

And so one of the things that I really
very strongly say is, batch your content.

Create content that you can save
and store, and so build a library

of content that will keep you going
for the busy times or times when

you're taking time off or traveling.

And in the past, I have been able to, you
know, do three or four months of content

in one go where I've been so organized.

I create all this content, and then I have
my emails, my videos, all of those things

ready to go for months on end, and I've
been really, really organized about that.

And particularly when it was just my
course-based business that I could,

you know, really batch, create content
and have that as my sort of focus,

my emails, everything else, so that I
could get on with, doing other things

and living my life and maybe, working
on a property or maybe it was traveling

and we'd go to Italy for nine weeks
and, have a really great adventure.

Now I am going through a messy divorce,
I'm a single parent, I can't necessarily

say, "Oh, we'll go away for nine weeks,"
because I can't, I just can't do that

anymore., I can barely manage two, but I
can still have those little adventures,

and I need to make sure that the business
doesn't fall apart when I'm not there.

So, if I'm going away in the
campervan, I tend to find that

it's hard for me to get Wi-Fi.

I can't really do anything while
I'm there, and I tend to just use

it as an opportunity to switch off.

You know, that I have been known to
very happily sit on the sun lounger

and be tap, tap, tapping away and be
really creative, and I enjoy that, and

I can be writing and, you know, I'll
happily be creative in that space.

But in the campervan, I don't tend to do
that because, the Wi-Fi signal is just,

it irritates me that I can't get a signal.

So I use that time to switch off.

I use that time to just really take
a deep breath and allow myself the

space to pause, allow myself the
space to think and recalibrate, and

sometimes enables me, you know, the
space to have and create opportunities.

When we're, we're more still, when we are
not in the doing, when we're in the living

of life, our brain can kind of switch
off and, We might have better ideas.

I find very often that for me personally,
while a, a retreat, you know, it's

lovely to meet other people, but
actually I prefer going hiking for a

weekend where I sort of switch off.

I might talk things
through with my boyfriend.

Um, but I use it as a sort of process
to, to think things through, talk about

things, brainstorm and just have that
time away so when I come back, I'm

refreshed and I'm filled with ideas.

So that's how I sort of use that time to
kind of really be creative, feel inspired.

But what I do do is I make
sure that I've automated.

So I will ensure that I have content
that I, just like this that I'm creating

now, that I have content that can
run when I'm busy doing other things.

Um, so in using a, let's say it's
a podcast, you can also have the

podcast, you can then turn that
into an email, into social media

posts, and create other content.

You can easily repurpose that from
the one core content, which might

be a podcast or a YouTube video.

And having those systems, creating
automations with, making sure that

you might have a lead magnet that then
can sell a product or ensuring that

you have scheduled emails that are
automated and you send those out, that

can really help you to keep the business
on track even when you take time out.

Because you don't want to have a business
that you are stuck with all the time.

It can be exhausting, and you want
to have that freedom and flexibility.

And certainly for me, I love having that
freedom, the freedom to choose the hours

I work and choose the way that I work.

I am more than happy to spend my
Saturday nights working sometimes.

If I'm home alone as a single parent, I'm
happy to do that as long as I then have

the freedom to take the day off with my
son in the week because he's got something

going on and I need to be able to go
away with him and the school for the day.

And to me, that is the ideal freedom,
and that is about carving out your

own way of working that fits your
life because you don't want to have

to be chained to the business and
feel resentful of your business.

Freedom is the outcome of your business.

That is why you set up your business
and you owe it to yourself and your

family to create the kind of freedom
that you envisaged for yourself

and your life and your business.

So remember the title of this
podcast, Live More, Earn More.

That is what it's all about.

So I'm wishing you every
success in creating a life

and business that you love.

Thank you so much for being here.

Bye bye bye for now.
