Lighter Than You Started is a daily podcast offering gentle reflections on the news, the noise, and the small human moments that shape our days. With wry humour and quiet honesty, it’s not about fixing you, just about ending each day feeling a little lighter than when it began.
Hi I'm Keith and welcome to Lighter Than You Started. It's Thursday and today I'd like to talk about something many of us spend more time waiting for than we realise. The Perfect Moment. We tell ourselves we'll start when things settle down. We'll make that phone call when we feel more confident.
Keith:We'll have that conversation when the timing is right. We'll be doing that project when life becomes a little less busy. We'll make the change when we feel completely ready. It's an easy habit to fall into because the perfect moment sounds so sensible. Why wouldn't we wait until the timing is just right?
Keith:There's something understandable about that. We want things to go well. We want to give ourselves the best possible chance of success. We imagine that somewhere ahead there's a moment where everything aligns. The diary is clear.
Keith:Our confidence is high. Our energy is abundant. Our doubts have disappeared. And that's when we begin. But life has an interesting habit of refusing to become perfect.
Keith:There's always another commitment another uncertainty, another reason why next week might seem slightly better than this one. Thursday often has this feeling. The week is progressing. Some things have been accomplished. Some things remain untouched and it's easy to tell ourselves that perhaps we'll deal with those later.
Keith:When there's more time. When we feel more inspired. When circumstances improve. But perhaps a perfect moment isn't something we discover. Perhaps it's the moment we create.
Keith:Not because conditions suddenly become ideal but because we decided today is good enough. Think back to some of the most important moments in your own life. The chances you took. The conversations you began. The opportunities you accepted.
Keith:Were they really perfect? Really? Or were they simply the moments you decided to begin anyway? There's something wonderfully freeing about lowering the standard from perfect to possible. Because possible exists far more often than perfect.
Keith:Possible says: I don't have every answer but I can take one step. Possible says: I may not feel completely confident but I can make the tool. Possible says: I don't need certainty before I begin. Because life isn't built from perfect moments. It's built from ordinary moments where ordinary people choose to act.
Keith:You don't need to keep waiting for everything to align. You don't need the perfect conditions before you move forward. You don't need complete confidence before taking the next step. Sometimes today is enough. Not because today is perfect but simply because today is real and real moments are where life actually happens.
Keith:So if it's something you've been gently postponing waiting for the perfect time perhaps ask yourself what's the moment I've been waiting for doesn't arrive because it's quietly waiting for me. Do they sort for you? You don't need to keep looking for the perfect moment. Thank you for sharing this moment with me and as always I hope you end today feeling lighter than you started. Draw gently and I'll see you tomorrow on the flip side.
