rappers especially in Nigeria I don't think there too many record labels that willing to take that risk to sign a rapper I think that's why we have few rap stars but I think we should take more risks because you're on the record label now they trying to check for your just your skills you know how can you sell records you know so I had to learn how to make music you know make commercial songs uh chart topping songs you know so uh hold on I had to leave that you know battling this thing I have a lot of questions to ask the first one I'm just going to ask is you mentioned the the battling scene and that's a big part of rap culture in anywhere yes in America Eminem he start up in the rap game uh and battling the culture uh NW ma they started up in the rap um in the battling culture so many great rappers even like even Drake sometimes he go all the greatest Rapp including JayZ went through the Bing game so so so what's up with the with the battle scene in in especially Lagos or like in Nigeria in total because I I've seen one video on Instagram ran across one video on my for you page I was like oh [ __ ] they're actually doing battles in Nigeria I was so surprised so like so can you tell me a little bit about that about like the battle scene here okay yeah they uh they got this thing going on called you know rap League or something you know I'm not really conversant with it though but I know a lot of rappers that follow me that do battle rap so every once in a while on my timeline i' be like whoa this is hot and crazy you know and I've been a judge to many so I can't even count so many rap battles I'll tell you one story there's one I actually did in somewhere in Su Larry okay yeah and the winner is one of the biggest artists or well not very like big but like he's a known name his name is Liles yeah l l I'm telling you for real L gonna rap rap what he started out as a rap rapper this dude would just go on and on you know continue with your story I'm I'm going to ask you he won he won that nights and everything you know so uh part of the deal I think was um he gets to feature me you know I was as an OG you know he just did a song out two out you know so recorded two songs and I was on one one was called bad guys you get then I think a couple of months later boom he got signed to ybnl you know so the thing the story here the morel of the story here is you know it's good to write from the ranks cuz you you're you're learning from that you know um wait hold up you did a song with him yes I did a he was part of the whole this I think he was giving some cash and then he gets to feature with me as well on the song so so you were his OG oh bro I'm like 20 no like you were his OG so that's why like he got a chance to feature with you yeah that was the deal of yeah but the deal never went through because he s with ybnl no I'm saying we recorded the record if you Google it Terry the rap man L cash bad guys Z yeah that was the the two songs that rapping some still do rap you know ice PRS uh Mi but some had to you know it's all part of the growth you know like when you get signed to rec label you know there's that pressure like you got to making chop talking records everybody got to make money you know what I'm saying yeah but this is why as a rapper if you can find a way to make commercial music as well as still rap without singing that's a plus we saw Nat C how big natc was you D was rapping Kenny big was on Red Top 40 I remember I was in J I was like wow so you mean like as a rapper you can you know sell records like you can make big hit record you know it's was very inspiring you know so um no because I I I throw this question because and it's crazy you brought up NC because I met him where in uh in this place in E I got in a conversation I was like oh OG like what's good but like you left the scene like you dead just left the scene he was chilling with with his misses and I was like bro you left the sing like I feel like the game is missing your type of rap because I feel like true nobody Raps like that anymore and if they do they're not given the spotlight I feel like the only true rapper right now is odumodu also mentioned that in your story of like you have to learn how to make records and also back in America in America as well not a lot of people from the battle scene can translate that into being an artist yes so I I want to know how how hard it is and number two the people that make it out of the battle game and are artists now do they show love still to the battle because I don't really see that okay it's a end of the day it's um Freedom of Choice you know um if you feel like your brand Now does not represent that rap skill you're trying to be a pop rapper you know per se you know I'll give you examples like for instance look at ludicrous ludicrous know he started out as that rapper rapper you know I used to hear his like early mixtapes from modai and this dude was really rapping rapping crazy you know kendri Lamar was in section eight he was rapping like the war is about to end or something you know but yeah you still got that flow you still got that battle rap I'm I'm coming after yeah but now you you see him making songs that can you know people could dance to you know even on this GNX dude was experiment ING with disco music like you know it was crazy you know Drake does that same thing too you know but I'm just saying basically like you just have to choose make up your mind whether you just want to be in a particular community be a champ all the time you know because that battle rap scene I don't see too many people becoming very big like the Tupac uh M&M's you know he started from there but you unless he chooses to just do Cipher with his Slaughter but to say that you the best rapper JayZ I can't even remember the last time Jay-Z was on any Cipher at all but to say that you're the best rapper though to say that like you're the because the rap game is also very competitive yes and to say that you're the best don't you have to be the best at everything I can kill you in a battle rap and I can also kill you in the records because Eminem can say that bro yes Eminem can say that would you take it away from Drake or Jay-Z and say should put their name in the top 10 top 10 greatest rappers this is the funny thing this is why I say I we can't remember saying like you know it's a bored culture or whatever you know but whether we like it or not in Nigeria there's so we have so many borrowed cultures you know what I'm saying if the apparels we're wearing and everything you get we're not all the time wearing AB Natives and everything you know just always we borrow cultures just like how even in America you see them trying to be African you know you see even white girls braiding their hair you know it's it's we borrow from different culture but for hip-hop music I think it's an African culture you know the the people that started it over there if you trace The Descendants it was Africa you know so we carried the whole maybe it was from the plantation Fields wailing and all complaining about stuff my problem is just how much do you borrow though how much do you borrow well you try and keep it as authentic as possible you know like for me I'm just a real person I I know how I love to dress I'm more comfortable with uh you know hip-hop clothes everything you know only maybe I'm going for occasions that you might see me in the suit or traditional and everything but I like to dress like a hipop artist because how I grew up bro on that though like I feel like because rappers are artist and as an artist especially in today's day and age you have to stand out yes so I feel like if I see a guy that has like baggy clothes you something different you feel me yes I so like have you ever like tried to go on that angle of because or or or Le you're not trying to sign but I feel like if you're trying to get signed I always tell artists like take chances like BR dress up have a cameraman standing the bus brt bus and just start singing your song bro rapping because he stands you out bro go to the market just start rapping in 2010 I sh a video called boys and US smiling which is my brand by the way a phrase that shout out to boys and not smiling come on now so uh we sh a video with Clarence Peters and he told me like Terry you need to switch up man wear a suit and you know I was like oh you sure yeah and when I saw the video it was like a whole movie you know what I'm saying and I feel as rappers sometimes we need to we we we need to just break out of the the way see us sometimes you know because perception is everything you know just cuz your environment is like maybe the trenches doesn't mean you you have to dress like you're trying to leave the trenches you know like I I'm trying to I'm trying to boss up I'm trying to level up you know yeah so it's not every you know I feel like the best rappers bro what the best rappers have that have that Talent of I can switch up into any Persona Drake that's true Tupac acted movies Eminem acted movies n m uh Dr Dre ice CU bro I feel like even when you're rapping a bar and it's not really true but you got to put that you know that emotion into it like when you L like what genre of music sells Brands more than hip-hop I I heard about Versace for the first time a hip the art side of things I get where you're coming from same thing with rap people are just looking for what was sell we're not actually focusing on the jcole type Tupac Biggie type rap bar for bar we're not focusing on different kinds of you know there different so many kinds of rap Styles yeah I definitely feel that the same beef I have with the movie industry okay an influencer would just she would get buddy done or a guy looks good and they'll say put actor on their bio that's it and and and I felt like you can't say you're an actor compared to somebody that went five six years training voice training even went graduated from graduated bro got the everything got more ceric and you say you're an actor and I'm an actor like I feel like it kind of discredits the the craft but I feel
