What is Manna Monday?

The Team at the Real Health Co. shares a weekly message to help you center yourself and start your week off strong!

Speaker 1:

You ever wonder why you failed? Like, if you you ever you ever think about it and you look back and say, man, I had such good intentions there. I I I truly plan to read the bible in a year. And the third week, I'm I'm already two days behind. And by the second month, I'm already a week behind.

Speaker 1:

And then it just feels like I'll never be able to catch up. Why? Right? Like why is it that we so quickly fail our spiritual disciplines? And I think and I think I think here's where I've landed.

Speaker 1:

They're too aggressive. There's just it's just too much. You only have so much willpower. And if if we're I'll listen. I know.

Speaker 1:

Reading the bible in a year sounds incredible, but let's be real. I don't know the percentage, but I guarantee it's not high of how many people actually commit to reading the bible in a year and read the bible in a year. Stay on track every day. Here's my suggestion, is add one thing that's manageable. Okay?

Speaker 1:

So for instance, when my son was starting into what I call the rite of passage, which is when he turns 13. We looked at what spiritual discipline can we do this year that will set him up for success in the future? That he can build upon. That he can he can check the box and be consistent with, be disciplined with, and be able to truly accomplish. So you know what we did?

Speaker 1:

We read the New Testament in a year. That's all we did. New Testament in year. And he hit it. He hit every day, crushed it, knocked out of the park.

Speaker 1:

So what do we do the next year? We did New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs. And now what are we doing this year? We're doing New Testament in one year and the Old Testament in two years. So in essence, in two years, we'll read the New Testament twice and the Old Testament once.

Speaker 1:

K? And then after these two year journey, we'll go into and finally, hopefully, built up enough spiritual muscle and discipline to where we can read the bible in a year. How many years did it take? It took four years to get there. Four years to get to a point of building spiritual muscle and discipline and consistently rhythm to the point where we can achieve reading the bible in a year together.

Speaker 1:

And you say well, that doesn't tickle my desire to do it right now. But here's the reality is where we think we should be is so much further than we actually are today. And it's okay. Like it's okay to come to the realization that if you're not praying five minutes a day every day, then don't expect to pray thirty minutes a day. Do your gratitude journal and read the bible in a year.

Speaker 1:

Like you're gonna fail. I'm just gonna tell you, rarely will people accomplish that much. You just don't have that ability. I don't have the ability. No one has the ability to sustain life and to make such a gravitational shift to that much spiritual discipline and rhythm.

Speaker 1:

That's aggressive. So when thinking about this year, be gentle and the Lord does not ask for a performance of perfection. He wants relationship. And I think that consistency is more important than intensity. And so what I would challenge you is if you've set some spiritual goals this year, and you're already a weekend, and they are already feeling overwhelming, you've bit off more than you can chew.

Speaker 1:

And it's okay to admit it now. Reframe your goal. Okay? So if it was read the bible in a year and you've never read the whole New Testament in a year, just do the whole New Testament in a year. If it's praying for twenty minutes a day and you haven't consistently prayed five minutes a day, then your new goal is praying five minutes a day.

Speaker 1:

If it's meditating thirty minutes a day and you don't meditate every day, it's meditate three minutes after you do your five minute prayer. Like, simplify things, bring it back, reel it back, and make it practical because when you win at life, when you celebrate wins, victories, successes, it'll fuel you to continue going. But as soon as you miss a day, two days, it turns into a week. You feel like a failure, you feel guilty, you feel shameful, and you just give up. So this week reflect from January 1 what your goals were, and if they're sustainable, keep them up.

Speaker 1:

If they're not, make a change. This is your friendly reminder to say, hey. We've got 355 to win this year. K? Let's make them consistent.

Speaker 1:

Let's let's make them sustainable, those goals that's in front of us, and let's honor the Lord with spiritual disciplines that matter.
