Facts
Reyy – Don’t Say Nothin’
- Ever had a moment in life where you had an absolutely amazing time and wanted to express it in the moment, but someone told you there was no need. Just…shhhh…let the vibes keep coming.
- On this new cut, within the throes of a vibrant nightlife, where inhibitions are released, and adventures call our names, listeners will find themselves immersed in a musical narrative that encapsulates the essence of carefree abandon.
- “Don’t Say Nothin” by Reyy offers an exhilarating invitation to a world where consequences are an afterthought, and the only rule is to have an unforgettable time.
Black Thought – Love Letter
- As if the man wasn’t busy enough having put out two stellar LP’s in the last couple of years in collab with Danger Mouse & El Michels Affair, now we have this epic spoken word piece that is exactly what it says, a love letter.
- That is, to hip-hop specifically, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the world-changing genre. As you heard right there, the accapella poem spans all facets of hip-hop, including music, dance, graffiti, style and politics.
Jalen Ngonda – That’s All I Wanted From You
- Another highlight for our main man outta Baltimore now calling the UK home.
- We simply cannot get enough of Ngonda’s debut album Come Around and Love Me, which dropped a couple of weeks ago, and is available via the legendary Daptone imprint. Brilliant record.
Rick Astley – Never Gonna Stop
- And yes, we end with that Rick Astley, he of Rick Rolling fame and a sensational ginger coif back in the day.
- Maybe just like the firey red hair that’s toned down to a browner meld all these years later, Rick has gone more soulful these days. This is the 2nd single to drop from the upcoming Oct 6 album Are We There Yet, which is the artist’s 9th overall.
Don Arcadio & Sade – Like A Tattoo
- A little remix here from Sade’s classic LP from 1992 Love Deluxe, and we must mention more Sade on the way in part 2.
- Don Arcadio is a very young man out of Italy who did this remix, only 17 years old, if you can believe it, and a decent 200k+ monthly listeners on spotify alone.
Joel Culpepper feat Tom Misch – Free
- This is from an upcoming EP due for release on Oct 27 via Beyond The Groove.
- Culpepper hails from SE London, and this track sees a nice collab with Mr. Mellow on the guitar and the console Tom Misch. The EP is titled Happiness Is Only A Few Miles Away.
Andrew Ashong feat Kaidi Tatham – Low Ceilings (Mala remix)
- To celebrate 3 years since the release of Andrew Ashong & Kaidi Tatham’s now classic Sankofa Season, Kitto Records invite some of their favourite artists to remix and reimagine the music.
- Mala is responsible for this final/bonus track here in part 1, bringing the trademark dubstep laylow twist to the original.

Part 2
Bastards of Soul & Keite Young – This Love
Ouida – Visions
Terrace Martin & Alex Isley – Paradise
Serebii – Inside
Sunking – Black Friday (CARRTOONS remix)

Facts
Bastards of Soul & Keite Young – This Love
- It always breaks my heart to realize the band’s fabulous lead singer Chadwick Murray is gone, having passed two years ago.
- Murray left behind a wife and child he never had the chance to hold, but the Dallas singer left one last gift for his woman before passing on, which was this song.
- The Dallas band are also ready to drop a 3rd album on Nov 17, titled Give It Right Back. Rest in power, Chadwick Murray. The true story ended far too soon.
Ouida – Visions
- This is a self-described artist and activist out of San Francisco who made debut back in 2020.
- Just a standalone for now, but quality stuff from an artist that we are certainly hoping to hear more from. A lot of great artists of Philippine heritage in Cali, keep an eye out for more from this budding artist.
Terrace Martin & Alex Isley – Paradise
- Honestly, Terrace Martin has three LP’s lined up this year, just started a new in-house label, and the high quality work never stops for possibly today’s hardest working man in show business.
- Here, we see the LA-based Martin team up with Alex of the Isley Brothers for an extra smooth reinterpretation of the Sade OG Paradise, released in 1988 on Stronger Than Pride, the Nigerian-English goddess’ 3rd studio album.
Serebii – Inside
- Really excited for one of our favorite previous guests on the show, as Serebii just dropped a debut solo LP this past Friday, and this is the title track.
- You’ve probably heard Serebii on collab tracks with partner in crime and another of our favorites Arjuna Oakes. Give this album a spin if you dig the vibes upcoming, we certainly do.
Sunking – Black Friday (CARRTOONS remix)
- And speaking of very busy people, here we have NYC-based Ben Carr aka CARRTOONS dropping a remix on this original from sunking (not sure how to pronounce, tbh). Carr will drop a new album, the follow-up to last year’s Homegrown LP, later in the year titled SATURDAY NIGHT, dropping Oct 6.
- Sunking are a duo out of LA and appear courtesy of ANTI-, and we definitely recommend checking their label debut Smug, which dropped last year.
Neal Francis – Changes Pt 1 & 2 (Live)
- We go all the way live at Chicago’s Thalia Hall right here to end the first half of the show.
- The now ATO Records artist out of Sweet Home drops a new live LP Nov 3 titled Francis Comes Alive, and this is the 2nd taste from the record, the title track to Francis’ final LP with Colemine Records.

Scream – DC Special Sha La La
DC hardcore legends Scream have announced DC Special, their first new music since 2011 and first full-length since 1993. The record, which features contributions from Ian MacKaye, former drummer Dave Grohl, and more, is out November 10th via the storied Dischord Records. Along with the news, Scream have announced a run of 2023 tour dates, and shared the new song “DC Special Sha La La.” Listen below.
Scream’s original lineup — singer Pete Stahl, guitarist Franz Stahl, bassist Skeeter Thompson, and drummer Kent Stax — recorded DC Special at Washington, DC’s go-to punk studio, Inner Ear, with founder Don Zientara, while Minor Threat/Fugazi frontman Ian MacKaye provided additional production. The band’s first LP since 1993’s Fumble, and first overall release since the 2011 EP Complete Control Recording Sessions, has been a long time coming: In 2021, Scream launched a Kickstarter to fund the project, which ended up being one of the last things Zientara recorded at Inner Ear before being evicted from its historic location.
Grohl — who replaced Stax on drums in the late ’80s before moving on to Nirvana in 1990 — contributes to DC Special, as does MacKaye, Jerry Busher, Amy Pickering, Mark Cisneros, Onam Emmett, Joe Lally, Bob Berberich, and John Goetchius, making the LP a true who’s-who of the DC music scene.

Slaughter Beach, Dog – Strange Weather
New album Crying, Laughing, Waving, Smiling is out this week. No early reviews yet but there have been four strong singles released so far in that Wilco-esque indie folk vibe. A far cry from Jake Ewald’s former band Modern Baseball.

Grrl Gang – Rude Awakening
Indonesian indie-pop trio Grrrl Gang have released a new music video for their latest single, ‘Rude Awakening’.
Released June 28, ‘Rude Awakening’ marks the second single to be shared from the band’s upcoming anticipated debut album, ‘Spunky!’, which is out this week.
The music video for ‘Rude Awakening’ marks the second visual to drop from the band’s ‘Spunky!’ album cycle. However, the newly released music video serves as the first chapter in the band’s plans for a continuous movie.
In ‘Rude Awakening’, an introverted girl attends a house party, but is left ignored after her peers turn a blind eye to her attempts at connecting with them. She then retreats to a bathroom, where she reflects on what validation means to her and embraces her inner-strength.

Equipment – Minnow
Toledo emos Equipment impressed us greatly with the first couple singles from their upcoming album Alt.Account (Sept 29). The next one is out today, and it might be the best of the bunch so far. “Minnow” manages to make rapid-fire twinkly guitar action feel like one more pop hook in a song full of them, and Nick Zander pushes his smooth and melodious vocal into fiery shout-along mode at just the right time. It comes with a video that features Zander in split screen re-creating footage he published to YouTube as a kid.
A statement from Zander on the song:
The chorus is from the perspective of an omniscient narrator, analyzing my current state in life. It speaks to the many different versions of ourselves we can be in a lifetime, and paints a picture of how far one can go from starting an innocent retro gaming channel to falling victim to the “party” culture in less than a decade. The Youtube kid was so much cooler.

Teenage Fanclub – Foreign Land
11th album Nothing Lasts Forever is out this week. Early reviews are positive: “Much like pulling on a favourite jumper, there’s always something reassuring about a new Teenage Fanclub album. You immediately know what to expect, and the familiar chiming guitars and sun-soaked harmonies are always comforting.” – Narc Magazine

The National – Laugh Track ft Phoebe Bridgers
The National have returned with Laugh Track, a surprise new album that serves as “the second half of a double album” which began this past April with the band’s previous release, First Two Pages of Frankenstein. The new record is out now, and features appearances by Phoebe Bridgers, Rosanne Cash, and Bon Iver.

The band announced the album onstage this past weekend at their own Homecoming Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio. Last month, they shared the singles “Space Invader” and “Alphabet City,” which both appear on the new album, along with “Weird Goodbyes,” the single with Bon Iver that the band shared in August 2022. Earlier this year, the band hinted that “Weird Goodbyes” wouldn’t appear on Frankenstein, alluding to a “future home” for it. Now, we know what that “future home” is.
According to the press release, the songs on Laugh Track were written alongside those on Frankenstein, and were worked-out in a live setting during the band’s 2022 tour. Coming into 2023, they decided to release Frankenstein, but chose to continue working on the tunes for Laugh Track, ultimately recording nine of the album’s 12 tracks during “impromptu” sessions at producer Tucker Martine’s studio in Portland, Oregon.
For his part, frontman Matt Berninger said in a statement that “Laugh Track represents us coming out of this long mutation period.” During the promotion for Frankenstein, Berninger was open about the depression he was experiencing during the pandemic, and the doubts that were cast on the future of the band at the time. Now, though, the band seems to have once again tapped into the collaborative magic of songcraft that keeps their engines running. “I have no idea what’s going to happen next, but it feels like the shedding of a skin, an exoskeleton,” Berninger said. “It’s really fun. We all feel out of the chrysalis and ready to figure out what kind of creature we are now.”

Shoreline – Needles
German emo punk/hardcore outfit Shoreline have announced signing to Pure Noise Records. To celebrate the announcement the band have released new single "Needles" and accompanying video.
Vocalist Hansol Seung spoke on the new single:
We tried really hard to avoid just mimicking already existing music in the genre, especially because it is easy and common as a german band to become just a copy of what is already happening in North America. I do think we managed to create an original piece of music that is influenced by both our experiences in the European music scene and our creative partners such as Chris Teti who has been important for some of the more recent American hardcore records.
Deeply rooted in the DIY hardcore/punk scene, Shoreline have been playing over 250 shows (loads of them in squats and basements all across the UK/Europe) in the last couple years and are now getting recognized by a wider audience especially in Germany. The band grew into one of the few European acts playing with scene legends such as Silverstein, Boston Manor or Spanish Love Songs on a regular basis.

Brutus – Love Won’t Hide the Ugliness
One year ago, the Belgian power trio Brutus came roaring back with Unison Life, another album of epic and pulverizing hard rock. Today, as a nice little surprise, they’ve announced a 2024 North American tour and dropped a new single called “Love Won’t Hide The Ugliness.” It’s got Stefanie Mannaerts wailing over crashing chords, and it sounds huge.
Here’s what Stefanie Mannaerts says about the song:
We are very happy we can release this now, after such a crazy year on the road. “Love Won’t Hide The Ugliness” has always been one of my favorite songs when we were writing the album. The song is about how love can cloud judgment and make it difficult to remain impartial. It can cause people to blindly follow others and lose their own sense of beauty. In the worst case, it can lead to self-destruction and damage relationships.

The Staves – You Held It All
In early 2021, fantastic folk-rock sisters the Staves released Good Woman, the last thing Jessica and Camilla Staveley-Taylor recorded with their sister and bandmate Emily Staveley-Taylor before she stepped away to focus on motherhood. Today the UK band has returned with their first new song since then, their debut as a duo. It’s called “You Held It All,” and they recorded it in Los Angeles with Good Woman producer John Congleton, he of the endless indie rock C.V.
“You Held It All” begins with a percolating keyboard and bated breath. Soon the Stavely-Taylors are unleashing their trademark vocal harmonies as the music behind them builds and builds, letting pressure accumulate until beauty overflows — fitting for a song about bottling up your feelings until they explode. “You held it all,” they sing, “and you did not let it go.” In a press release, the band writes, “‘You Held It All’ is a song about understanding, and the knots we tie ourselves in when we don’t express our truth; and how much power and freedom there can be when we do.”

Hotwax – Phone Machine
HotWax have announced their second-ever EP, and shared a preview from it in the form of new single Phone Machine.
Following May 2023 debut EP A Thousand Times, the teenage trio will be releasing the upcoming Invite Me, Kindly EP on October 18 via Marathon Artists. Vocalist Tallulah says the five-track record “felt really good” to write, and that “it all came together really quickly and the majority of the songs just fell into place”.
“I felt I had lots of phrases saved up in my head that I couldn’t wait to put into my lyrics,” Tallulah continues. “The EP looks at themes of acceptance to people who have hurt you before, letting your doubts leave you and feeling free. Playing these songs live this summer has been so refreshing, I still feel so passionately about a lot of the lyrics, which makes it feel very therapeutic to perform. Working with Alan Moulder on recording the EP was amazing, he was so open to our ideas and really helped our vision come to life.”

Stay Inside – An Invitation
“Your ideas I don’t consider a good time, man/ I hope you understand.” So begins the new Stay Inside single “An Invitation,” the follow-up to their recent “A Backyard.” The syllables are all stretched out and mangled, but the sentiment is clear. The verse continues: “I just never had much of a taste for revenge/ I hope to keep you as a friend.”
“An Invitation” begins is a pop-punk-ish indie rock song with fervid momentum, then morphs into something slower, heavier, and more grandiose. Trumpet by Really From’s Matt Hull factors in significantly. The band writes, “‘An Invitation’ is about the close friends you once had, who you no longer speak with. The kind of people you’ll only see again at a wedding or a funeral.”

Chris Shiflett – Overboard
Chris Shiflett has shared an extremely lovely new single, Overboard.
Taken from his upcoming solo album Lost At Sea (due out on October 20 via Spinefarm) the Foo Fighters guitarist light-heartedly describes the tune as “a middle-aged love song”, referencing the lyrics: ‘No little voices down the hall / Distracting us at all, oh no.’ “All the parents out there will understand!” he says.
Chris adds of how it came together: “My favourite songs are the ones you don’t have to labour over. Sometimes you have those magic songwriting moments when your pen can barely keep up with the words and it all spills out really quickly. Somehow they always just sing and play better, looser, freer.”
