Challenging myself to record a podcast episode a day for my 50th year on this planet.
Hello and welcome to Daily-ish
for September 18th, 2026.
I'm recording an episode every day
for this, my 50th year on the planet
I've been feeling this, like, need, desire
to take a bit of a break from all the
digital things, not just social media, but
just stuff digitally, 'cause it's, it is
my job and it's my work and I really enjoy
it and I have a hard time not wanting to
be into it, even if I don't get exposed
to all the toxic side of it as much all
the time or let myself get exposed to the
toxic sides of it as much all the time.
But I love creating
the newsletter I write.
I love creating this podcast.
I love working in the, with
the clients I work with, as I
referenced in the previous episode.
And normally every year around, uh,
when Lent hits in the beginning of
the new year, I take an intentional
break from some apps or all apps
and do that for a longer term.
But feels like the time is right,
something about this fall, something
about just this weekend, there's a
combination of things happening around in
our family and stuff that make for a good
reason to take a bit of a break as well.
And so Not that I'll leave
my phone behind necessarily.
I'm gonna take pictures with my phone
and write notes and journal and things
like that, that I use on my phone.
Play some puzzles.
I like to do the Wordle, and there's
some, uh, the emoji game and,
uh, mini crossword on Apple News.
But yeah, try to disconnect from the fire
hose of information that, um, I let myself
sort of use as a digital water cooler
while I'm working, and then inevitably
bleeds over into normal life as well,
of course, 'cause once you've posted
something, and then you're waiting to
see if people reply or like it or share
it or whatever, and it kind of just,
yeah, has a way of spinning into more
and more if you don't manage it better
So not some big proclamation, virtue
signal, whatever kind of thing, but just
a thing I'm planning to do this weekend.
As a result, obviously, I'm recording
some of these episodes in advance so
that I don't get drawn into sitting
at my computer recording stuff and
then also just like checking, falling
into old habits, checking threads or
checking Blue Sky while I'm waiting
for, uh, files to upload or whatever
I'm still working my way through Brandon
Sanderson's, uh, I for- Stormbearer,
S- I don't know, Lightbringer.
I can't remember what
the series is called.
I'm on the fourth book, I think.
I can't remember.
It all kind of bleeds together.
But anyways, uh, I got
that book on the go.
I've got the Dungeon Crawler Carl
audiobook on the go, And a new book I got
for my birthday from, uh, I think from
my parents maybe, and The Tears of Things
by Richard Rohr, theological sort of book
on the age of, in this age of outrage
So lots of stuff to keep me busy, and,
uh, it's supposed to be a nice weekend
for fall anyways here in Saskatchewan.
And I kind of like the idea of, uh, once
winter hits, it's kinda like hunker down,
and yeah, there isn't as much or it's not
as easy to get outside, that's for sure.
And so then it feels like being
lazy on your phone, whatever,
is kinda natural almost.
And so taking advantage of these
opportunities to get out for a
walk or whatever and get outside,
fresh air while we still can before
it starts to be able to kill us.
Not quite that dramatic, but All right,
hope you're having a good Friday, and as
always, feel free to reply to this post
on social media, although these ones
probably won't get posted everywhere.
Like I said, if I'm not on my
phone, it's hard to post about it.
