New research from the County Councils Network has found that 95% of councils that have outlined their budget proposals for the next financial year plan on increasing council tax by the maximum amount of 4.99%.
This is a significant increase on last year's figure of 75%, with every council planning on increasing council tax by some amount.
Touching on this news, CCN Vice Chair Sam Corcoran has said that no council leader takes the decision to raise council tax lightly as it increases the cost of living for residents.

The Home Office has announced a new visa extension scheme that will allow Ukrainians who fled the war in their home country to stay in the UK for longer.
This underpins the government’s commitment to supporting Ukrainians, with the second anniversary of the beginning of the war approaching.
The Local Government Association has responded to the announcement, saying that whilst councils are working hard to support refugees, however councils need further funding arrangements so that they can provide longer-term support.

The Department for Transport has announced the appointment of Sir Gareth Rhys Williams as the new Chair of National Highways.
Spending the last eight years as Chief Commercial Officer within the Cabinet Office, Gareth will now oversee the delivery of the £24 billion investment in roads.
This comes as National Highways completes the delivery of the second Road Investment Strategy.
