Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.
Christ connects fallen man in his weakness and helplessness with the
Source of infinite power. – Steps to Christ, pg. 20
Ahh, it’s time. Dreamland is calling, my mind whispers as I
yawn. Reaching for my phone, I set the alarm for 5:00 A.M. sharp.
As my eyes close, my mind is so clouded with drowsiness that I don’t
even register the little red battery sign, dangerously close to empty.

Waking up with a start, I hear the hum of the morning
announcement. What? My alarm never rang! I realize, apprehension
rising. I search under the cloud of fluffy blankets, desperate to find
the little device. Finally locating it, I press the home button, but the
stubborn face refuses to awake from its peaceful slumber.
“Seriously, you had to die on me?” I murmur. Disgusted, I stare
down at the dark screen. “Ugh, now I’m going to be late!” Frustration
wells up within me, only worsening my dilemma. I fling the covers to
the side and race to my desk. With a twist of the nob, the lamplight
flickers on, illuminating the darkness around me. After minutes of
searching, I locate the charging cord and plug my listless phone into
the outlet.Kneeling beside my bed, I call out to my Father. “Lord, you
know I’ve woken up quite late this morning, but I want to place all my
worries in your hands, that I may have peace as I study your Word.”
Though my plans for the day were disrupted, I still took time to
spend with God. I knew that if I didn’t, I wouldn’t have enough power
to get through my day. It’s not just our phones and devices that need
power, but each of us also needs that life-giving charge. My outlet is
God, and my cord is prayer. If my life is void of prayer, I may not feel
the effects at first, but soon my spiritual life will slowly drain to nothing.
Without that crucial connection to my Father, I have no power.
