What is ...But God?

A weekday morning devotional series written by Aaron Marcarelli and hosted by Chad McBeam

“In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock at night. And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood near them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. And so the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army of angels praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among people with whom He is pleased.” When the angels had departed from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let’s go straight to Bethlehem, then, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”
Luke 2:8-15 NASB2020

Today we look at both the shepherds reaction and the angels reaction to the birth of Christ. The shepherds first reaction is fear! Which was pretty much everybody’s reaction when they see an Angel. Especially this one who had an army of angels behind him. The angel tells the Shepherds the prophetic writings of Isaiah have been fulfilled. Then,This army of angels, they were no ordinary army, they were a singing army of angels. They were singing, “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among people with whom He is pleased.”
Luke 2:14
The angels sing praises and they sing that God’s favor has once again been placed upon Israel through the birth of the savior Jesus Christ. This was such a momentous event that an army of Heavenly angels are singing praises.
Obviously this had a profound affect on the Shepherds. They did not doubt, they believed immediately. For they too wanted to go and worship the King as well. Therefore, they quickly go and worship Jesus. “Let’s go straight to Bethlehem, then, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”
Luke 2:15
The army of angels worshipped the birth of Christ by singing Glory to God. The shepherds worshipped God by going and seeing what they had been told. What a glorious and amazing event! This one event changes the world forever! We now are on the path for eternal life with God through Christ’s birth, life, death, resurrection and ascension! Receive it!Believe it! Live It! Preach it! Worship the Christ the King and savior of the world through singing and doing His good and pleasing perfect will.
Lord God our Heavenly Father we thank you for sending us Jesus, the savior. Thank you that through His death on the cross we have forgiveness of sins and through His resurrection and ascension we have eternal life with you. Help us through the power of the Holy Spirit to continue to seek to do your good and perfect pleasing will. In Jesus Name Amen…
