Words In The Wilderness is a podcast for changemakers, cycle breakers, and anyone tired of flatlining their existence with "fine." Hosted by Jacky Power, the Therapeutic Poet, each episode uses poetry as a foundation for exploring the wobbly, lonely terrain of becoming — of unlearning and unlayering — whether you're leaving a relationship, finding your voice, or simply learning that "I matter" is a truth, not an opinion.
Sometimes with guests bringing professional insight or lived experience, sometimes raw and personal, this isn't a podcast about five steps to fix yourself. You're not broken. Your feelings are wisdom to decode. It's about having a cheerleader in your pocket when the path gets lonely and everyone else is questioning your choices.
for brave souls who've
awakened to their truth
and are now navigating the
wilderness of
transformation
To the scared souls, the never dared souls, the lost souls, the double-crossed souls, the betrayed souls, the dismayed souls, the broken souls, the unspoken souls. You can be the brave souls, be everything you gave souls, be adventurous souls and generous souls. Be scrape the mistakes off your soul souls. It's never too late to start!
Hello, I'm Jacky Power, host of Words in the Wilderness. Now, you might have found your way here from my previous podcast, The Therapeutic Poet. And if you have, welcome back and thank you for following me into this next chapter. But I want to shift the focus of the podcast slightly to help you if you are in the phase of transformation and change in a way that lives more aligned with your truth. that can be a scary business. You may be sitting in the emotional loneliness of it all.
Writing has been my refuge and something that I want to share with you. When I was a child, I had a diary. And in that diary, I made up a special code to help protect my truth. Poetry has become my grown-up code, but...
Rather than using it to hide from our truth, we can use it to connect with it, whilst protecting ourselves from feeling too exposed. The blank page doesn't judge, it just mirrors back to you what your reality is like for you. This is Words in the Wilderness, where we use poetry to witness the messy middle of becoming who we really are.
Are you exhausted from dialing up the part of you that feels acceptable while hiding the parts that feel true. Through poetry and honest storytelling, this is where we stop performing and start witnessing, where your feelings aren't problems to solve, but wisdom to decode.
So, please receive my words as gifts. Each poem, a billet due. Each line, a delicate heartstring to see the tough times. Please feel the feelings of these words as small squeezes of your hand, a gesture of solidarity, not too fancy, nor too grand. But all I'm ever trying to say, all I want to do is encourage you to be who you are, to be the you-est you.
