The Vivaling English Podcast

In this episode, we dive into the world of routines—those little patterns that shape our days, weeks, and even seasons. While we often think about routines as the things we always, usually, sometimes, or never do each day, routines can also change depending on the day of the week or the time of year. Join three VivaLing coaches—Elena, George, and Arianne—as they share their personal routines.

What is The Vivaling English Podcast?

This podcast is designed to give English students extra practice by discussing events, history, culture and language.

Welcome again to the VivaLing podcast. Today it’s all about routines. We often talk about daily routine to talk about what things we always, usually, sometimes or even never do each day, but did you know that routines can also be about how what we do is different during the week and on the weekend or even how what we do is different in different months or seasons.

Listen to three VivaLing coaches talk about their routines. And, as usual, be prepared to answer a question or two. Coach Elena will now talk about her routine – her routine during the week and how it’s different on the weekends.

On weekdays, I usually wake up at 6:00 am and wash my face. At 6:30 am, I have coffee and breakfast. At 7:00 am, I take a shower. At 7:30 am, I get dressed. At 7:40 am, I brush my teeth, put on makeup, and brush my hair. Finally, at 8:00 am, I sit in front of my computer and start teaching class.
Weekends are my favorite. On Saturdays, I usually get up at 8:00 am. At 8:15 am, I eat breakfast. At 8:30 am, I brush my teeth. At 9:00 am, I take a long shower. On Sundays, I get up at 8:00 am, take a quick shower, and get ready for church. I go to church at 9:30 am, and after church I have lunch at a restaurant with my family.

Now, what day or days did Elena say were her favorite?
You got it if you said the weekend. We’re all mostly like that, too, aren’t we?

And what day does she take a long shower?
It’s not Sunday. She takes a short shower then. It’s Saturday.

Now listen to Coach George talk about his routine related to his pet.

Hello, everyone. Today I want to talk about how I take care of my pets. Every morning, I feed my dog and give him some water. Later, we go for a walk in the park, and he’s always so happy. Sometimes I sit on the sofa. I scroll on my phone and look at funny pictures of other pets. Taking care of my pets makes me feel relaxed and happy, too.

Did you hear what George sometimes does on the sofa?
If you said scroll on his phone and look at funny videos of animals, well done. I like to do this, too. Do you?

And last, Coach Arianne talks about her routine in the different seasons.

Hi, this is Coach Arianne. I really like running and spending time outdoors, and I try to go outdoors, go for a run no matter the season. But, in my region the winters are really tough - we have strong winds and heavy rains so in winter I tend to spend a bit more time in the gym, I try to do more strength training but as soon as the first sign of Spring arrives, I'm outside climbing a mountain or running around and having a wonderful time. Um, I don't think my routine really changes much depending on the season, but that is the biggest thing - I find it difficult to be consistent when it's winter.

What does Arianne do in winter when she can’t go outside and run?
You are right if you said go to the gym and do strength training. (I think it keeps her fit for when the better weather comes.

Thank you for listening and playing along. Your homework. Choose two times to compare and write 3 things that are different in your routine and tell a family member or your VivaLing coach.
