Today is Friday, June 26. The title of today's devotional is if Jesus is your master. Jesus, after washing, the disciples' feet, he goes on to apply and give them the kind of the practical direction about what had just happened. He says, you call me teacher and lord and rightly so for that is what I am. Now that I, your lord and teacher, have washed your feet, you should also wash one another's feet.

I've set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly, tell you no servant is greater than his master nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. The bottom line is that if Jesus is our master, we will minister as he ministered supper. By the end, there were only 11 because Judas had left after Jesus calls him out and says he knows he plans to betray him.

Really, what that means is that there were 11 disciples who saw Jesus as Lord for whom Jesus was their master. And then there was Judas. For Judas, Jesus was not his master. And even when we look at Judas' story, we tend to apply that to our lives through the symptoms that Judas had. Judas interested in money.

He was greedy. He was maybe ambitious. But the bottom line is that Jesus was not Judas' master. In John chapter 12, when Mary pours out expensive perfume on Jesus' feet, Judas wonders if there was something more useful that could have been done with that money. Now his actual intention was probably to skim some of that money for himself, but the bottom line is he did not see Jesus' feet as worth that much money.

Mary clearly did. And when Judas asked Jesus, Jesus says basically, it's fine for her to do this. I'm going she knows I'm not gonna be with her for much longer. He accepts that worship. He accept accepts that generous, gift and that adoration.

And Judas just cannot square that because Judas ultimately does not see Jesus as fully God. And then coming full circle to close our week reflect on how you view Jesus. Is he fully God? Is he your Lord? Is he your master?

If he is, then you will minister to others as Jesus ministered.
