Shalom and welcome to all. Today, we delve into the Tanya, Likkutei Amarim, chapter 26, a text that speaks so closely to our everyday lives.
Here, the Alter Rebbe expounds on the very essence of our internal battle, the fight between the animal soul and the Godly soul. He explains that the animal soul, stemming from the heart's left side, is fiery with passions and desires that often contradict the divine will. In opposition, the Godly soul, residing in the mind, is always striving for unity with the divine.
This is not merely a philosophical concept, friends, but a daily reality. Each choice we make, every reaction we have, is a reflection of this struggle. The Tanya implores us to guide this struggle with wisdom and understanding, to let our minds, the seat of the Godly soul, rule over the heart, the home of the animal soul.
In our everyday life, when we face challenges, we must ask ourselves: Are we acting out of our animalistic desires or from our divine essence? Are we letting our passions rule us, or are we using our intellect to guide our emotions?
The Tanya offers us a practical approach: study, pray, and do good deeds. It's not about suppressing our animal soul, but rather, transforming it. By immersing ourselves in spiritual endeavors, we can elevate our animalistic tendencies, making them serve the divine rather than oppose it.
So the next time you feel a surge of anger, a pang of jealousy, or a moment of despair, remember the Tanya's wisdom. Let your Godly soul, with its wisdom and understanding, guide your heart. Turn the negative into positive, the mundane into holy.
